Two piece dark with cold slaw & a biscuit
    Jason S.

Was recommended this place by a coworker so I decided to stop in for lunch. They have the two piece meal for which comes with a side a biscuit & a drink for $6. Usually you get what you pay for at most restaurants but this place?!?! Man that chicken is very fresh, flavorful and with the perfect crunch. The biscuits they have are very soft and buttery as well and the cold slaw as a side is tasty too. All of this for $6!!! I believe this is an all day special too so stop in anytime they're open. Literally the best fried chicken in this part of town!!!

He was very patient answering many questions about the menu. My mom has a lot of food sensitivities so she has to be very specific about what she eats. Hands down the best thing on the table was my shrimp and grits! The shrimp had just the right amount of Cajun seasoning, the grits were smooth and cheesy, the vegan sausage was nice and savory, and I loved the little grilled piece of focaccia bread. My fiancé loved the Kirkwood Breakfast. Especially the lavender biscuit and the preserves that went with it. He was also a huge fan of the honey bacon. My mom also got the Kirkwood breakfast, but she opted to get the eggs without the boursin cheese because of her food issues. My niece's boyfriend got the challa French toast and WOW it was a sight to see! Huge fluffy piece of French toast, topped with fresh berries, and a ricotta cheese blend. He seemed quite happy with it, although it was a little on the fence with the texture of ricotta, I'm thinking he probably hasn't had that before so I didn't know it was kind of like a cottage cheese texture. I got a lavender infused lemonade, nonalcoholic drink from the bar, and it was an absolute delight! I was surprised when they only charged me $4 for it, I felt like that was a great price for a delicious drink. My only constructive criticism to them would be to let people know that they add a 20% gratuity to every check. I don't mind paying that and honestly usually tip more but I do appreciate when a server will at least circle that on the check or let you know verbally .

Okay, yeah totally get it cuz you have to pay the bills. Wait, but we're a regular 4 person party...oh it's added on regardless? Okay service must be impeccable then. Just kidding. y'all didn't refill our waters, so we just sat outside in the heat, and nobody came to check in on us. The espresso martini was delicious as well as the French toast though!

I typically go to this location to eat in because the one by my house or does Togo after a certain time. I loved that they had the inside and outside of the restaurant decorated for the holidays. I always jump on the TouchTunes machine as soon as we arrive if there's no music playing. (Gotta set the vibe) The waitress we had was super sweet and friendly. My go to ordered is a bacon egg and cheese sammy, double order of hasbrowns covered, chunked, and peppered! It was a little busy when we got there but the food came out pretty quick. Open Wednesday - Sunday. We welcomed the calm, family-friendly vibe and free parking. Even with the rain, we were dry and toasty. Other than breathing fresh air, you wouldn't know you're outside. Seat yourself and scan a QR code with your phone to order and prepay. Being old school I think you get better tips by greeting the table and giving recommendations. But there was only one server, she was friendly and hustling. I love the grown up music - neo soul and pop (Selena, Ed Sheeran), with enough volume to hear each other, clean restrooms and comfy seating. Food came out quick, hot and fresh. The amiable owner greeted us after to inquire about our meals. We had a party of 7 (4 adults, 2 teens, 1 kid). I loved my pancake breakfast! The filling, not too sweet hot cakes were promptly drenched in warmed Mrs. Butterworths. Applewood smoked bacon? Blissful. Scrambled eggs with cheese? Dreamy. I devoured it all and left full and content. My Dad said the Blueberry Pancakes were the best breakfast he ever had! Ms. Chicken and Waffles thought the poultry was a bit salty yet "well-seasoned with the perfect crunch." Waffle? Delicious. On a scale of 1-5, Mr. Cream Cheese French Toast and Grits Bowl ranked it 10! "Grits were magical, better than Milk and Honey." Teen's Simple Breakfast (potatoes, eggs and bacon) and French Toast "blew IHOP out of the water!" Preteen ranked his Simple Breakfast and side of French Toast "5 quintillion!" The bacon was a bit tough but the bread blew him away! Kiddo - ranked her kids breakfast (large fruit-topped pancake with eggs and bacon) 6 out of 5! Would we return and recommend? A resounding yes! This quaint, low-key family owned business with amazing food gets our vote every time.

No waiting around. No waving for a server. Just scan, order, and mind your business until the food comes out. Now let's talk about the order because yes, we showed out. Lobster and Shrimp Omelet. Breakfast Sampler. Buttermilk Pancakes. Creamy Parmesan Grits. Coffee. Cinnamon Sugar Croissant Bites. If you're wondering if it was too much food, the answer is absolutely not. The food was good. Like pause mid bite and nod your head good. Everything tasted fresh and cooked to order, which explains why it took a little while to hit the table. Worth the wait. However, somebody back there is not afraid of seasoning. At all. Bold. Confident. Heavy handed. The kind of salt level that makes you sip your coffee and look at your partner like are you tasting this too. Did it stop us from eating. No. Did we still clean our plates. Also no question. And then there were the cinnamon sugar croissant bites. Sweet. Soft. Dangerous. These caused the most tension at the table. One of us said we were full. The other immediately reached for the last bite. Overall, Huskey's Kitchen is a solid brunch spot with big flavors and fresh food. We would absolutely come back. Next visit we're requesting light salt and ordering those croissant bites again because some lessons are learned and some are ignored. She eats. He eats. We argue over the seasoning and the last bite. #SheEatsHeEats

Our server was really nice and helped explain the menu to us because we had questions for sure. For food: I got a beef patty and skillet corn bread while my friend had a dish with green bananas. I thought the beef patty was good but the corn bread was a bit hard although the berry jam did make it a little softer. My friend thought her dish was just alright. I heard mostly positive things about this restaurant from a few family members, so I was curious to check it out. This Caribbean/Southern fusion spot is located as the anchor of a strip mall with other restaurants next door. The great thing is that there is plenty of parking. We came on a Saturday evening; thankfully it was not crowded, so we were able to sit down immediately. Food: I ordered the stewed chicken wings which comes with plantains and jasmine rice. I also ordered a side of roasted brussel sprouts. The wings were very good, falling off the bone tender. I also loved the flavoring of the rice, and the plantains were perfectly sweet. I was not a big fan of the brussel sprouts. They had a thick honey sauce on them that was overpowering, and they were very soft in texture. The positive side is that they give you a ton of food for the price. Service: There weren't many staff working this evening from what I could see. Our server greeted us promptly and checked on us several times before we ordered food. Once we ordered our food, it honestly went down hill. It just took extremely long to get anyone's attention for help. It also took close to 30 mins just to get our check. When the check came, they initially said they couldn't split it and added an automatic 20% gratuity. On their site, it says they do that for parties of 4 or more, but we were only a party of 3. The manager let the server split the check, but they would not remove the gratuity. I always tip well, so it wasn't the end of the world, it was just the principle for me. While I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, I might consider checking them out again for brunch.
