Okay so BOOM! I am hosting Thanksgiving this year and needed a restaurant that could accommodate an order of collard greens. Ok. I called Collard Green Cafe and placed an order for a full sized pan of greens for $100. Cool. I then said well before I make the commitment of spending $100, let me visit and actually try them because not everyone's taste in collard greens is the same. So I go and I politely ask is it possible for me to get a sample (like a fork or a condiment size portion.) The young lady assisting me asked the owner and he immediately told me no. I explained that I had just placed an order for a whole pan and wanted to make sure it was going to be something everyone would enjoy flavor wise. He said "No, if I give you a sample then they'll be giving samples to everyone. You see the name in the restaurant, that's how you know it's good. Check the google reviews" Me being me I'm thinking he's joking until I realized he was Dead Ass! He then proceeded to say you can buy a side and I'll even just charge you $5 instead of the $5.99 and slides over their catering menu and walks away. At that point I'm like I get it you're well established and clearly people like your collard greens since you named the restaurant after it. But hell Burger King makes burgers and people don't like it, just like Subway makes subs and ppl don't like it. Butttttt...me being me I'm like okay I get the ego, he thinks his greens is top sh*t so I paid for the side of greens and left. Needless to say, I'm saying all of this because the greens are good. But I will not be supporting or recommending this business. And lord knows I love me a good black owned business. The owner's demeanor was off putting, body language and tone as if I was just in there trying to sample the whole menu. Ok so I've been to this place twice. Both times after church on a Sunday, and a church event on a Saturday. The first time we went, it was on a Sunday and we dined in. It was PACKED!!! The line was super long inside and at the drive-thru. That's expected because most people, especially southerners, want a "Sunday meal" after service. This place is right up the street from my church so majority of the patrons were from there. It was around 2:30ish since I go to the late service and it speaks volumes that this place was still packed at that time! The line is cafeteria style but there's nice seating in the restaurant. Not like other Soul Food spots in the Atlanta area that don't serve mimosas and brunch with their Sunday Soul Food. My mother got the Turkey Wing over white rice with sweet potato soufflé and steamed broccoli. It comes with a choice of light or dark gravy, however, my mom got the light gravy instead of the brown. My mother is very critical and for her to like the food it speaks volumes! The turkey wing was tender, fall off the bone, tender! The rice was cooked well, and the steamed broccoli was cooked to perfection, meaning not too firm, and not too soft. She loved her sweet potato soufflé, and so did I and my toddler! Lol I ordered the 4pc baked chicken which was pretty much half a hen so to speak, and it was just as tender as the turkey wing! Meaning it was good, hot, and fall off the bone tenda! Yes, I said tenda! The mac & cheese was cooked how mac & cheese is supposed to be cooked versus other places I've had around here since living here which has been really disappointing, and my green beans were seasoned well and cooked just how I like them! I could tell they were more fresh than canned green beans. The cornbread was good, it was kind of hard, but not too hard. They have a hint of sweetness, which wasn't too bad because I like my cornbread, a little sweet compared to some others. My daughter loved the food. The ambience is really nice, and can get a little crowded if there's a long line. And nonetheless, the atmosphere was great. The service was a little hectic, considering there were so many people in there and they were serving the people inside as well as the people at the drive-thru. I feel like some workers who aren't managers should just play their role at whatever station that they're at and not try to do too much and get other people's way especially if there's a system because there was starting to be breakdown in communication once we got up to the line to order/get our food as well as pay. Which, by the way was the only downfall during our visit at this time. Second visit... it was about a month later on a Saturday afternoon around 2 PM. I went through the drive-thru. Easy and straight to the point. The menu at the drive-thru is different than the one inside the restaurant which threw me off, because the menu inside has more options than the one outside. I ordered the turkey wing over rice with macaroni and cheese and sweet potato soufflé. My food was delicious with only one downfall of the rice being a little undercooked. The turkey legs are delicious! They are cooked tender and full of flavor. The food is set out buffet style so you are able to see it and choose what options you would like. For my sides i got my turkey legs over rice with extra gravy, Mac and cheese and collard greens. The Mac and cheese is just ok nothing to rave about. I've been meaning to try this place for a while. I was sitting in traffic and decided to stop in. They do have a drive thru which I was pleasantly surprised about. I love restaurants that offer the convenience of a drive thru! I didn't go through the drive thru and went inside instead. I was immediately greeted when I walked through the door and despite the inside being fairly packed, there was no wait to order food and I was able to walk up to the counter and place my order. I wanted the oxtail plate but the young lady checked and said there weren't anymore oxtails, only bones. I settled on turkey wings and it comes with two sides. I was going to get the greens and Mac and cheese because the greens must be a staple, right? But when I saw that cabbage oozing with season, I had to try it and I had NO regrets. I wanted to order a peach cobbler but they were out of that as well. The food and service were great and plentiful. I got my plate to go and had enough for leftovers the next day. It can be pricey, almost $30 for the plate including a tip but I will definitely be back. read more

Went here for the first time the other day, it's been on my list forever and I'm so glad I finally went! I ordered two smothered turkey leg dinner plates with sweet potato souffle, cabbage, banana pudding, and cornbread. 10/10, so good! The staff was friendly and welcoming, and I loved all the indoor plants. It wasn't exactly what I expected, but I'm still really pleased with the restaurant. I'll definitely be back to try more dishes. I thought I'd have to order ahead, but nope, the food is already ready. I was craving turkey wings and this was the closest location to my job. Despite having a 77 score, I went against my rule of not patronizing anywhere with less than a B. Well, I won't make that mistake again. The turkey wings were stale and not day old stale, but longer. Being that I cook myself and I'm Caribbean I know how food taste when it has been reheated several times and it's not fresh. Definitely not worth the $18.35 excluding tax. I came across this restaurant on accident....made a wrong turn in the parking lot and there it was. Since it was lunchtime and we were in Atlanta I had to try it. I wasn't sure what to expect but you only live once. The decor is really cute. They really went with the greens as the theme. It was set up cafeteria style so you can see the food before you make your choice. They plated the food right there. I felt a little rushed in the line but it was lunchtime and everyone else knew the system. I went with mac & cheese, collard greens, and cornbread. Hubby was all in he got Ox tails and pigs feet. Both a no go for me. He was very happy with it and shared it with his brother. The collard greens were sweet--- like sugar had been added. I didn't like it. I didn't know sugar greens were a thing. It is an interesting ingredient but not one that I would repeat. They were busy with happy customers so I am not sure if this is their signature recipe or an Atlanta cooking style. If you are in the ATL and want to try a different type/style of collard greens check them out. I've been meaning to try this restaurant for months. Finally Sunday where I didn't have to cook so I went to try it out. Upon walking in the line was long however it took little to no time to get to the counter to place an order. I ordered the meatloaf meal and the smothered chicken meal with Mac-cheese, candied yams and cabbage. After I paid and was walking out the door I noticed the health score said 77 and I was upset that I didn't see it before. My man said let's just give it a try. The sweet potatoes with pecans lord they are amazing. Everything else was just ok. The meatloaf was flavorful but heavy so I little to none and saved it for lunch dinner today. Food is served cafeteria style, with fish and certain proteins cooked to order. Pasta dishes & seafood platters come with 1 side. All the other entrees come with 2 sides. Lunch is available daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is a very good value, as lunch entrees include a fountain beverage, and the main difference is the portion size of the protein. I love their dark meat-baked chicken. The jus is incredibly flavorful, and the meat is so soft that it falls off the bone. To fully appreciate the jus, I want to have mashed potatoes one day. I can't stop ordering the cabbage and green beans as entree sides because both are well-prepared and seasoned. However, I keep eyeing the sweet potato souffle as a future side option. Meals come with cornbread, which tends towards the softer, sweeter side. The ribs and oxtails are solid; however, I did not care for the smothered turkey wing. Ok !!! I used to live very close to this place and stopped in frequently - kinda just taking it for granted. Well I was in the area this week and had a taste for the "down home" love this food provides. 1 its perfectly seasoned 2. Great portions - 3 it's just plain good ya'll - like a hug from Granny. I ordered the Turkey wing dinner - with Cabbage, Mac n Cheese and a corn muffin. Now since I was here last they have moved just across the bridge to an old Hardee's - gives them so much more room and it feels easy to get in and out and I noticed they have a drive up window too - a very nice new look and feel. I was planning to drive home and enjoy my food - but literally sat in my car and "tasted" .... Until it was almost gone. Turkey so tender, and that cabbage with sautéed peppers and onions - and the creamy Mac n cheese with the right amount of "crusty top" I can't say enough - the staff is really cool and they make sure you know what comes with your food and make good suggestions too - a great group of folks - oh yeah also the Fried pork chops that was my old favorite. I came here with my 87 year old dear aunt since she loves this genre of food. The service was friendly and fast . Ambiance is nice with clean tables and plants everywhere .Also, great soul music plays while you chomp down on your "soul food". The fried chicken was the proverbial bomb! This new location is gorgeous! Upon walking in the restaurant, you are immediately greeted and the decor looks green...airy and full of plants. They play really catchy music from the 60's/70's. Food is displayed cafeteria style and have a few different sides to choose from. There is a variety of veggies and meats and a few starches. Everyone who worked there was friendly and accommodating. The young lady behind the counter checked on my food twice and the cashier apologized for the delay which was appreciated. I ordered a whiting fish dinner at 1:15 and I didn't get my food until 1:40pm. I don't mind waiting at all, but it would have been nice to have been told that because I would have ordered something else. Sadly to say, I waited all that time for fish that looked great but had absolutely NO FLAVOR on it at all. No amount of hot sauce or tartar sauce helped. The macaroni and cheese was just okay and my cabbage was spectacular. I wish I had a just ordered a plate full of cabbage. I will go back again just for veggie and if I get anything else, I will get whatever meat is already prepared especially if it's during the weekday around lunch. read more

We came in for lunch and apparently right before the rush because the line after us was pretty long. The server was nice but it was only her working the food so things got a bit backed up. I ordered the seafood platter with a side of mac and cheese, while my bf ordered the tilapia platter. While I appreciate the amount of seafood, the price is already higher so why not come with two sides. All the other dishes come with two sides. The fish was made to order so fresh and hot. I liked all I had, the shrimp, tilapia and catfish. As I said in another post, I am hard to please with mac and cheese and again no difference. It was ok. Edible. The collard greens on the other hand were cooked very well, tasted my bf's. He wanted the meatloaf but it wasn't done yet. If it isn't going to be ready for lunch, they should take it off the menu. Overall I would go again and try something else. Inside the restaurant is what you would expect of a kind of fast food-ish type of restaurant. I stumbled upon this bundle of love while attempting to get Chinese food next door *shhh*. I was LITERALLY LURED from the parking by overwhelming smell of COLLARD GREENS! I was curious, so I walked in and was greeted by the manager with a lovely "welcome!" (it took everything in me not to reach for a hug). I'd explained how getting quality Soul food in the area has been tough, especially for a person who doesn't eat pork. I asked everyone sitting at the tables if they'd eaten here before and if they liked it, I was told to forget about my original plans and I did just that! HUGE PRO: None of their veggie sides are made with pork products. I can never get greens bc everyone cooks them in pork. Not here! Only items made with pork ARE the pork entree items/sides (explicitly stated). I got the meatloaf, Mac and cheese, collard greens, cornbread, mini sweet potato pie and the blueberry lemonade. My partner got pork chop, I'd assume it was great bc I looked over and it was there, turned back and it was GONE! The food was phenomenal and in itself has secured another visit. This was my first visit. I hear their commercials on the radio all the time. Full disclosure I normally go to a different cafeteria style restaurant in Tucker. The restaurant was nicely decorated and clean. But there was something missing...aromatic smells. Even this was noticed by someone else in line. Then finally seeing the prices I was floored. For a non table service restaurant the prices are high. I ordered meatloaf, collards, Mac & cheese with cornbread. The meatloaf was super salty. I never think something is salty. And in an unusual way it was tasteless. I know they don't go together. The collards were bland. And the mac & cheese was underwhelming. Appearances First: With the number of cars in the lot I immediately thought, "I'm gonna have to get this to go" But after walking in, I noticed lots of empty tables and a line to the door. I edged in and waited patiently to order. The dining room was OVER decorated with silk and plastic greenery which at first glance look like swags of dead flowers hanging upside down. The menu board was hard to understand as they had everything on the menu listed (some with prices/some without). The layout of the dining room seemed cluttered with lots of dead space in awkward angles. The hot bar line was very short and it seemed as if the cashier was standing in a utility closet. The layout could use a shift or spatial upgrade. I originally wanted fried whiting fish and grits, and after telling me they were out of fish, instead of suggeting a different type of fish (salmon, tilapia, perch??) I settled for the shrimp. It took about twenty minutes to get to the hot bar and another twenty minutes to get my order. As I waited I made note of the picture of the shrimp and grits. Finally Inpaid and also got a handmade blueberry lemonade. I wanted a slice of cake but after watching a lady touch each container before choosing her slice, I declined. It smelled like a fry station when I visited and no other smells like cinnamon from the yams, pepper and onions, only chicken and fish. Personally I like my shrimp sautéed in a pan to sear with seasonings and a little butter, but these were more Mobile AL style than New Orleans NO. The rue was flavorful, and the shrimp was cooked well (not split down the back) and the peppers and onions rounded out the gravy. The grit to Shrimp ratio was overkill and after eating all the shrimp, peppers and onions, I was left with a tray of wet, undercooked flavorless grits. I literally mixed in the remaining gravy from the shrimp and they STILL needed more salt, pepper, butter and onion powder. So I decided to save it and cook it for a few more minutes . I'll post an update as I plan on going during the week to see if a slower day will yield better results read more
