When I ordered the Steak Plate at Mammy's what I envisioned was an open-faced biscuit topped with a piece of Country Fried Steak layered with scrambled Eggs and Cheese covered with some Sausage Gravy. Instead what I received was two plates loaded with a staggering amount of tasty food including Cheese Grits. I'm sure I'll feel miserably full for the remainder of the day.

I am not going to lie, we went to Mammy's mainly because of the name. We are visiting from the North, and this looked like a place to enjoy some local southern flavor. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a "morning y'all?" One look at the menu and the cafeteria line told us we had found the right place for a delicious, if highly caloric, breakfast. The chicken plate brought the flavor, and two perfectly cooked over easy eggs joined the fried poultry on the plate. The bacon was crisp, and just the right amount of salty. The hash browns weren't quite what I had hoped, as they were a bit soft and oniony. The serve yourself coffee is the kind you find in break rooms around the world, but had caffeine and served its purpose. The vinyl checkered tablecloths are a nice down home touch, and the Walmart store brand syrup makes you feel like you are having breakfast at grandma's. For a quick tasty meal at a low price, Mammy's is great place. For the price, it is a 5 star meal.

    Burnt every morning

If I could leave a negative I would. Ive tried this place on several different occassions mainly due to their name. Biscuits are hard and crunchy @6am. Steak is always burnt@6am. How this place is still operating is beyond me. Please dont use this against any other locations. Its only this one. The cook is Horrible

This was my first time going I decided to go through the drive thru. It was only one car in front of me the wait was about 15mins luckily I wasn't in a rush. I got a steak biscuit with gravy which cost $3.17. I had high expectations of it being southern style breakfast but I wasn't impress at all. It was super greasy and the gravy had no flavor at all and it look like chunks of grease left from frying chicken. The biscuit was rubbery. Overall it tasted "iggggght" I thought it was bland and super greasy. The customer service was ok not bad but could be a little better. Will I go again? Probably not.

The RAW replacement salmon biscuit that I had to come home and finish cooking!

Excellent biscuits and coffee. Counter service is fast and efficient. Clean dining room. Nothing fancy, just tasty.

Good breakfast. Usually eat chicken biscuit or country ham and biscuit. Inexpensive. If you get a full breakfast the portions are large.

Everyone was greeted quickly and staff worked to seat guests as quickly as they could. We had two classic chicken and waffles - one with tenders and one with wings - 4 of either and the peach cobbler chicken and waffle. We also had scrambled eggs, scrambled egg whites, and grits. The bone in chicken was delightfully crunchy but not overly so. It was just a little bit greasy but not overly so. Still I was glad it was served on a separate plate. The waffle was just big enough. I've had gigantic waffles that tasted awful and this wasn't that. No pulp in the OJ!!! The grits were reportedly just ok but I didn't try them. The tenders were equally crunchy and arrived hot. There's a sign that says they serve mimosas now.

I ordered the waffle with fried alligator, and it exceeded my expectations. My wife had the breakfast sandwich--and let me tell you, those biscuits were homemade, buttery, and unforgettable. This is the first time we've truly enjoyed breakfast since moving to Georgia three years ago, which says a lot. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, and I loved how everyone worked together to take care of all the guests, not just their own tables. That kind of teamwork really reflects Southern hospitality at its finest. We will definitely be back

Decent selection of food, but most of it at room temperature or close. I didn't dare eat the chicken when it was clear that it had been sitting there for a while at room temperature, will be shocked if I'm not sick tomorrow. Same with the cobbler. I tried the rolls and garlic bread - both so hard as to be completely unpalatable. Salad bar was probably the best part, but everything there was very low quality as well. Beyond that, the food is all very underseasoned and bland. And how do you make cheesecake bland? I mean, how is that possible? All the server had to do was give my a seat, some water and clean utensils, and I did get a seat - but the knife had a big blob of something green stuck to it. They brought me a new glass of water when the first when dry, but it had a funny/bitter flavor that wasn't there in the first one. Considering the fact that the knife wasn't clean, I would assume the same went for the glasses. Worst of all, I left a tip at the table (not required for a buffet, and certainly not earned as noted above); but when I declined to tip at checkout, they had the nerve to ask if I had tipped at the table - as if tipping was somehow required. And then argued with me when I made it clear that asking was inappropriate. Incredibly rude and a terrible way to treat customers. I should have made more of a scene, but I calmly made my point clear, no need for more drama. Will not be going back, and will suggest nobody else does either - if you want a reasonable buffet experience anyway. Edited to add: After writing this review, I decided to research to see if I was the only one that had a bad experience, and found a LOT. On Yelp, they have more one star reviews that two, three or four stars - making me think that many of the 5 star reviews are not legit. Just go to Yelp, and sort by newest first, to see that 3 of the last 5 reviews were one star - 4 of 6 if you include mine. Also, according to the AJC, this restaurant has had multiple failed health inspections in just the last five years: November 2025: Scored 59/U (Unsatisfactory). Violations included food not held at proper temperatures and cross-contamination issues. December 2021: Scored 52/U (Unsatisfactory). The restaurant failed its routine inspection after staff were observed failing to wash hands, alongside improper food storage and temperature violations. May 2021: Scored 37/U (Unsatisfactory) 37? 37?? That's not just a fail, that's a not even trying.

I liked the name and the cuisine. Pretty good reviews, but if you've been on Yelp as long as I have, you know that standards vary greatly. And Virgils was no exception! Food was excellent! Deviled Eggs, Corn Bread, Sunday Plate, Grouper, and Seafood Platter. Undeniably Good. Service. Undeniably Bad! Muy malo! If you have to sit at the bar even when you have reservations. No bueno! If you have to flag someone down to get them to take your order. I am looking for an alternative option. If you charge a 20% service fee for services not rendered. Shame on you. "People will never forget how you made them feel". Well in a nutshell, not very valued. Having been in the restaurant industry of over 17 years, I have the perspective being on both sides, I would say service is the part severely lacking at Virgils.

I also ordered a peach tea, smoked wings, onion rings, & the brisket platter. Listen, I don't know what they did to these cheese muffins, but they were heavenly. They pretty much melt in your mouth. The first one I ate without butter and it was good; for the second one, I slathered some butter on there and that made it even better. I probably ate half the basket by myself. For the smoked wings, instead of getting them drenched in sauce, I ordered all the sauces on the side. The wings had a slight crisp on the outside, which I love. It gives me the illusion that I'm eating a fried wing, but this way is much healthier. Lol. All of the sauces were solid. The honey habanero sauce was good, but really wasn't hot. The white sauce in Carolina mustard sauces were probably my favorite. I never pass up a chance to order hand breaded onion wings. It's rare to see those on the menu. These were done just right. The breading was crispy, light, & seasoned. They came with ketchup, but I dipped them in my barbecue sauces instead. These were much better than frozen onion rings with breading that's too thick. Unfortunately, I enjoyed my appetizers more than my brisket platter. I was underwhelmed by the brisket; it wasn't as flavorful as I'd hoped. The greens were OK and I didn't eat the macaroni and cheese. The consistency was not what I was expecting. Our server was great. He gave good recommendations, was friendly, and even accommodated my friend's request to watch a specific game on the television near us.
