A nice hidden gem in Conyers! I was in and out for a quick breakfast on my way out of town. This place did not disappoint. I ordered a bacon egg and cheese sandwich with a side of grits. The sandwich was delicious however the grits were not cooked creamy the way I enjoy them, they were undercooked. The service was pretty good. Not terrible, think of diner food from a truck stop with a Southern twang (drive thru speakers don't work, you'll have to give your order through the makeshift window). It's cheap and will fill you up. The quality of food has definitely fluctuated over the years, which I would expect as line cooks come and go, but it'll definitely hold you over if you need something to stick to your bones one morning. Early in the day, you'll see a lot of blue-collar workers coming in and out picking up breakfast or getting an early lunch for their lunch pails. The vast majority of the staff are super friendly, they give me genial cafeteria lady vibes (and I mean that in the most positive way, lots of warm grandmother types work here). The one dark orb is Alyssa...if surly was a young woman. Why on earth management has her on the front line interacting with customers is beyond me. No "hello", no "please" or "thank you". Doesn't tell you your total, and she won't even ask what you want to order, just stands there staring with an irritated smirk (you can see it because her mask is around her neck). Any time I pull up and see her looking in the window, I literally have to decide if I'm gonna drive off that day or have an inevitable grumpy encounter. read more

When I ordered the Steak Plate at Mammy's what I envisioned was an open-faced biscuit topped with a piece of Country Fried Steak layered with scrambled Eggs and Cheese covered with some Sausage Gravy. Chicken fried steak was decent. Same with the fried chicken. Mac n cheese was meh. Shorter wait here than Lithonia. Taste wise - equivalent to Walmart. Price - about the same. I am not going to lie, we went to Mammy's mainly because of the name. We are visiting from the North, and this looked like a place to enjoy some local southern flavor. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a "morning y'all?" One look at the menu and the cafeteria line told us we had found the right place for a delicious, if highly caloric, breakfast. The chicken plate brought the flavor, and two perfectly cooked over easy eggs joined the fried poultry on the plate. The bacon was crisp, and just the right amount of salty. The hash browns weren't quite what I had hoped, as they were a bit soft and oniony. The serve yourself coffee is the kind you find in break rooms around the world, but had caffeine and served its purpose. The vinyl checkered tablecloths are a nice down home touch, and the Walmart store brand syrup makes you feel like you are having breakfast at grandma's. For a quick tasty meal at a low price, Mammy's is great place. For the price, it is a 5 star meal. read more

The girls at work turned me onto this place. I am officially the biscuit bringer I know all of their orders and every time I walk through the office doors with a brown paper bag I see nothing but smiles. The favorite is bacon, egg and cheese. I usually order the chicken biscuit but recently decided to see what the hype was about about the BEC. You can't go wrong with anything you order here. I've had the chicken biscuit, sausage biscuit, bacon egg and cheese as well as turkey sausage and egg whites. I usually call ahead now because the drive through line is long. Even though it moves decently quickly, when I call in, it's always ready when I pick up. The ladies are always so nice. There are tons of regulars in here because most of the time I hear the ladies ask the patrons if they want their usual. This establishment is only 8 minutes from the office which makes it extremely accessible to me. All in all, they see this face at least once a week. If a $3-4.00 biscuit can bring smiles to my coworkers I'm all for it. Cheers to a great week read more

This was my first time going I decided to go through the drive thru. It was only one car in front of me the wait was about 15mins luckily I wasn't in a rush. I got a steak biscuit with gravy which cost $3.17. I had high expectations of it being southern style breakfast but I wasn't impress at all. It was super greasy and the gravy had no flavor at all and it look like chunks of grease left from frying chicken. The biscuit was rubbery. Overall it tasted "iggggght" I thought it was bland and super greasy. The customer service was ok not bad but could be a little better. Will I go again? Probably not. read more

this place is just...good. 've gotten a few biscuits from here they've been delicious. The one thing I tried and will not get again is the hash browns. They were wet, undercooked, the oil tasted rancid, and just all around not good at all. The staff is very nice, with the exception of 1 lady who took my order, she has glasses and long hair, she was so rude. She did not smile once or acknowledge me at all unless it was to take me order. She seemed like she did not want to be there or speak to me at all. This left a very sour taste in my mouth. On the other hand, the lady with glasses and very short hair is amazing! On Thursday, February 11, 2021, using a coupon that happened to have come in a mail circular advertising FREE dessert with a lunch purchase, I decided to patronize Mammy's Kitchen for the first time, and because of its longevity in downtown Conyers. When I walked in, Shirley (manager or owner) was very welcoming as she described the variety of foods on the hot foods table. She even went on to tell me of the possible, upcoming food items for the following week. I tried to use my dessert coupon, but there weren't any dessert options that particular day due to reduction in force, where there were no available cooks to prepare the cobbler displayed on the coupon. However, without hesitation, Shirley substituted yams for the dessert and handed me back my coupon to use at a later date before it expired. Ordering two lunch specials and two salmon biscuits, I paid $22.00+, and left excited about returning with friends. This is where the 5 stars rating plummeted to a "very generous" 2 stars! When I got home, the lunch food was pretty good, but the salmon croquette was sandwiched between a burnt biscuit! I phoned the restaurant and asked to speak to Shirley, who assured me very politely that it wouldn't be a problem and she would write my name in her book for compensation. To ensure that there would not be a problem upon my return, I took pictures of the burnt biscuits and tucked away my receipt. Fast forward to Tuesday, February 16, 2021, today, to get compensated for my order, and things went all of the way south with Shirley!! I walked up to the counter to speak to her about my compensation and she adamantly and indignantly said, " I don't know you, what is your name?" Because her demeanor had taken a complete turn from before, I smiled because I thought that she might have been teasing. Yet, her next comments were, "What is your name and did I write it in my book!!?" After I replied, "Yes", she proceeded to tell me that I should have brought the food back and if I had my receipt? I handed her my receipt because she said, when I called, she only wrote down that I had purchased one sandwich. Had she informed me prior to return the food; I certainly would have!! Her frustrated conversation with me was that she just implemented the food return policy at that moment, and she was frustrated with customer's complaints!! Then, she kept my receipt as if she thought I would come back and demand two additional biscuits!! The biscuits weren't good AT ALL!! Even after her hatred nature towards me, I still ordered a bowl of lima beans. But, to add insult to injury, the replacement biscuits were RAW!! I actually had to brown in my oven before I could eat them!! I'm not sure if it was intentional to serve me raw biscuits or not, but I'm certain that there were others more done. If Mammy's Kitchen survived the pandemic and is still opened; then it's safe to assume that they don't need any of my or my friend's money, whom I would have recommended. Saying that, because of how embarrassed I felt as Shirley spoked to me in front of two other customers, served me raw dough, it's safe to say that my first impression of Mammy's Kitchen (other than the name) is my last.
