I probably could've gave just one star but I'm being generous. So apparently they just reopened and bc of this, they don't have their liquor license yet. You wouldn't know that from the website nor just walking in. That would've been nice to know beforehand so we wouldn't have wasted our time. The inside has an interesting look and feel but they at least played some good music. We went for Sunday brunch around 11:30. The server was a bit slow, and it wasn't extremely busy. I ordered the fish and grits and my sister got the shrimp and grit balls. None of it was seasoned, with MAYBE the exception of the Cajun sauce that came in both dishes. If you're like me, you know it's not hard to even lightly season seafood or even grits, so it was disappointing the flavors, or lack of, that we got. Will we be back? Eh idk. Second visit -- same issues, different day. I came back to Tasteful Tom's for a second try, this time with my parents. I really wanted to see if things had improved since my last visit with a large party. Unfortunately, it still feels like a place with potential that's not being supported properly. When we walked in, I thought things had turned around. The new host (her first day) was amazing warm, confident, and professional. She gave a great first impression. But once seated, it went downhill. * The music was way too loud, to the point where we had to lean in just to talk. * There was only one server working the entire restaurant, which meant slow service, long waits, and a stressed-out vibe. Let's talk food: The fish and grits (see photo) were phenomenal easily the best thing I've had on both visits. Creamy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The chicken and waffles (see photo) were average. Chicken was seasoned okay, but the waffle was a bit underwhelming and slightly rubbery. This place could be a standout in the area the branding, the menu ideas, the food (when it hits) are all there. But the inconsistency, staffing issues, and volume level hold it back. My friend and I decided to go here on a Saturday morning. There wasn't a wait and we were seated immediately. The waiter Journey was very pleasant and knowledgeable. When it's nice you got to do it twice! Came in yesterday and today. Lacy was great despite being the only person waiting on all the tables. She gave updates and apologized for delays. My tasteful Tom's review: Unfortunately we had to wait 40 mins (we found out later it was a large party reserved, so we understood. Still a long wait though). The menu is rather small... lots of things are a la cart as well. I ordered bacon and they were out so turkey bacon was offered instead. The biscuits were very hard, inedible for me personally, but some like theirs that way. The prices are on the higher side for the portions they serve. All in all though, the food was delicious, the service was *excellent* once we sat down (shout out to Jamari Gibbs, he really went above and beyond. consider giving him a raise!), and the ambiance was very nice with great music. As always, try the restaurant for yourself first before you develop an opinion. read more

Great service from Journey and our food was DELICIOUS! Loved humming along to the R&B tunes while brunching. We had the catfish and grits....the catfish was seasoned well and fried nicely. The grits had a nice smooth cheesy texture. The salmon croquette appetizer was nice, 2 cakes served with arugula and a delicious aioli. The star of the show today was the chicken and waffle appetizer. The waffles were savory with cheese and herbs in the batter and smack good with the fried chicken. One recommendation put Jay on the ceiling and Ali on the wall, those dreads didn't make my meal better, but he got the Queen! Typical pricing which means not cheap these days. Fish and grits pretty good and enough! Chicken and waffles hot and fresh as well. Wings small so they gave 4 instead of 3! Bigger waffle recommended. Adding the wing shows they know the wings are smaller and I will take that gesture for the $20 price point. Gratuity auto added 18%. Easy $50 for 2 plates, no drinks, with the 18% gratuity! The third time we tried to eat here, the doors were locked, and lights were off during open hours. We were happy to come in today but everything went wrong. We were asked if we wanted to be seated inside or outside; we said inside and they said we could only sit outside. We hestitated and they said we could sit at the bar. We were seated at the bar for 10 minutes before being told we had to move outside or leave. Other patrons were seated after us at the bar. After all the shuffling we were ignored outside. The food portions do not match the pricing of the food it it is more on the expensive side. The chicken was flavorless had a lot of leftover pieces from being fried. I also ordered steak and eggs and asked for medium well like I always get. It was well done. Safe to say I would never come back nor do I recommend. I now understand why they closed and reopened! The Owners like to gaslight and mislead potential customers instead of correcting and fixing problems. We made a reservation for 14 for Father's Day , which was confirmed by the restaurant by telephone AND email. We arrived for our reservation and was told our reservation was cancelled! We did NOT receive an email nor a phone call canceling our reservation! I checked my email standing in front of them and the manager could not confirm she sent me anything! Why would we show up KNOWING our reservation had been cancelled, especially on Father's Day !! SMH. And then on top of that , LIED on my google review and say they did! The food wasn't bad.... My issue is not the food. This establishment charges a mandatory 18% gratuity that's charged to all bills. We didn't know that until we got our check. I don't like that, but I would be ok with it if I got 100% service. Our waiter was not knowledgeable of the menu at all. We had to ask for drinks. He was NOT on his A game at all. It's like he just started with no training. We did have grace with him, but it sucks when you're paying for great service and you just get ok service. I think the food is over priced. Chicken and waffles comes with thighs and if you want wings it takes your order to about $22. I had the French Toast and added grits. It was OK. Not a fan of their grits...they are very creamy, like cream of wheat. There were several other small things that I think makes a restaurant A1, and they failed. Just my opinion.
