This place feels very uncomfortable if you're Black so I don't recommend going unless you enjoy feeling like you're about to eat before or after a klan meeting. The staff was nice but I never got around to eating the food. Spiritually I couldn't fade it. I noticed a Black woman walk in with her son and walk right out which is what I should've done. It used to be a funeral parlor in the 1800's, a furniture store in the 70/80s, and then a restaurant. The confederate flag says enough. So, it may be a good restaurant/vibe if you're on the far right. I can't rate the food because I never had it but the 1 star is for the energy of the establishment. It was awful. read more

THE RUDEST PEOPLE! We have dined here twice, and that's too many times. They don't smile, greet you, or look you in the eyes when they approach your table. They throw one menu on the table for the whole group, and seem to disregard people of color in a way that cannot be ignored. I mean, they have a Confederate Flag as part of their decor, along with cotton plants, so perhaps this should come as no surprise. Food is mediocre. They don't even have a proper sign out front that names their restaurant -- as if they intend to be exclusive and "unwelcoming" before you've even stepped foot inside. Not worth it. read more

When we came in, we stood in the doorway for a couple of minutes because we didn't know what to do. An older woman waved impatiently at us to come in. I guess we were supposed to know that you seat yourself. The same woman came back and threw menus in the table. We waited 10 minutes, and then I got up and asked the server when we could expect to get water. She made the excuse that she was serving all the tables by herself (all three of them). Both women were more interested in chatting with a table of people than serving the rest of their guests. She finally came to our table and rattled off the prices for 10 entrees on a chalkboard, which I promptly forgot. Who knows what was actually included in each meal. We were excited to try a local business and Wells Cargo looked so promising upon entering. It is a redone antique store so the decorating and ambiance was beautiful. We sat near the fireplace and it felt very quaint, original, and romantic. The owner was serving and I think her sister was at the bar. They were both lovely and so sweet to chat with. Unfortunately the food was not the best. We tried the salmon and the chicken parmesean. The noodles were undercooked, the sides tasted sort of old like they had been in the fridge for a few days and were nuked. We left feeling like the place has a ton of potential but the food needs improvement. Very cool place though! read more

Wells Cargo Cafe is nothing short of excellent. The food is fresh and delicious. My friends both tried dishes off their daily special's board. I'm pretty sure they pick up what looks good at the market that day and turn those into specials. SO GOOD. I went for the burger and I am not overselling this when I say it is the best burger I have had in Atlanta - and I am regularly on the hunt for the new best burger. I've been thinking about this burger for WEEKS now. I'd give the burger 10 stars if I could. Sadly, they are closed Sundays which is my splurge day otherwise I would literally eat here every weekend. The setting if cute too. Candle light at every table and a decent beer selection makes for a fun date. If you go on a Friday, round your evening off with some Karaoke at Cafe Jaya down the street. read more

I have to say, I've wanted to try Wells Cargo Cafe several times and always end up going to Sweet Potato Cafe around the corner... and now I wish we would have stuck with Sweet Potato Cafe. Wells Cargo food was very good, that's why I'm giving a 1 star. The service was horrible, like someone else said "you're treated like a nuisance", but she was friendly to the "regulars" but how did she know we wouldn't be regulars if we liked it and if she was nice we would go back, as we're always looking for cute, quaint local restaurants. But she was rude from the moment we walked in, and no prices on the menu so either you have to guess or assume, or get the eye glare for asking. The beer was warm. My food, the crab cakes, was good, my husbands the chicken parm was mediocre. The worst part of the experience was that we had a scout mob, something she put her restaurant on, and when we went to Pay she said she doesn't take scoutmob anymore because it wasn't beneficial to her....no one returned.... REALLY? That's how we find most of our favorite restaurants- maybe people aren't going back because they don't like being treated like dirt. So her not taking the stupid $10 scoutmob is costing her way more since I will tell all of my friends, that are local, about our horrible experience. And the place was filthy... the antiques around are full of dust! Such a cute place and I had such high hopes.... so sad. read more

As other reviews have said, the food is good and gets 5 stars. But last night I went there just before the free concert (Tunes by the Track) took place across the street. The cafe was packed crowded and very loud. It took 40 minutes for a burger. A larger party behind us ordered after we did and were practically done eating by the time we got our food. No discount was offered. The question to other readers: is it fair to assess a bad rating in this situation? Was it an aberration? Shouldn't a system be in place for such a situation? A neutral 3 stars is a good compromise. read more

Wells Cargo used to be a Stone Mountain institution. People would drive for miles to eat there. It disappeared for a while, but now it's back! The restaurant serves Southern classics out of an historic building right on Main St Stone Mountain. Great food, great service and wonderful people. The opening times are pretty variable - some evenings, unpredictable days. If it opened on a regular schedule, I bet it would be full all the time. That costs them a star. read more

This goes done as one of those memorable evenings where friends, family and happenstance meet. We were attending the Country Living Fair at Stone Mountain and were looking for some non-hotel, and non-fried fair food. We aced out with Wells Cargo Cafe. From the mountain I entered the door, I thought, yes, potential. Artily and funkily appointed, with a mix of painted and unpainted tables, a collection of old toy cars, trucks and trains running around the picture rail, an opening to an overlooking upper floor [what mystery went on there?] was deigned to please our crafty crowd. It was a three generation night with the youngest, my granddaughter being 9. So we had some pleasing to do. Delicately prepared salmon, hearty steak, unusual Southern sides. Full bodied wine, craft beer and chicken fingers to boot. We finished off - no actual room- but had to try it- with a peach cobbler and ice cream. Yum all around. We felt from the warm welcome, jovial, pleasant and absolutely cool service, that we had stumbled into a lost cousin's home- who had secretly moved to Georgia. Fabulous evening- going down in the top 5 in memory. They are not open every night, so check for timings. read more

My husband and I stopped in here after visiting the park, and were quite pleased. The interior is charming and rustic, with antiques and well chosen curios decorating the smallish seating area. It looked like regulars in that night, out for a simple, comfortable dinner out. It is charming, not too fancy, and the food is delicious. I gobbled up the beer-batter mushrooms (fresh mushrooms), which were excellent (for what they are.) The beef with barley soup was savory and had delicious flavor. I've ordered the grilled salmon which was cooked to perfection--melt-in-your-mouth type experience and the food has been consistently good otherwise. The gumbo was tasty, but more rice than gumbo (more like the ingredients of gumbo served over and mixed in with rice that has the flavor of the soup part of a traditional gumbo). read more

This was a very unpleasant experience overall. We stopped in because we have seen the place a million times. While the atmosphere seemed warm when we entered, we did not feel welcome at all. It seemed like mostly regulars. We ordered the chicken parm and the grilled fish (can't remember what kind). The fish was pretty good. Nice flavor from the grill. The chicken parm was mediocre at best. The server acted like we were a nuisance when we asked simple questions like "is this sweet tea or unsweet?" There were no prices listed, so we were SHOCKED when the bill came. It was significantly higher than expected. We could have gone to a nice restaurant for the price. The ticket wasn't even itemized so they could have just decided on a number and charged that. Not only would I not return, I would not recommend it unless you are already in the inner circle. read more

I don't know why Yelp has this restaurant listed as "Wells Cargo Antiques"...we have never seen anyone make an antique purchase while dining here in all the years we have frequented this restaurant, but we have certainly enjoyed their delicious food. If you are up for a burger or sandwich, it will be made fresh and delicious, but let me recommend the specials written on the chalkboard each night. Each special comes with a salad, bread and two sides and you will not go home hungry. The grilled salmon is especially good, and we have enjoyed the chicken parmesan, too. Cheese grits and butter peas are great side choices, even with an Italian entree. The service is friendly and occasionally a bit slow, but it's worth the wait to dine on delicious, fresh, made-to-order dishes. You'll be glad you stopped in. read more

The food is great, service both very personable and professional and the ambiance is "funky farmhouse". It's obviously a local favorite and for very good reason.
