Boy, did I want this place to be incredible. It is not. The space itself gets a solid 10/10. It goes way back, has a beautiful patio area in back, and is decorated beautifully. I'm sure it'll be a very popular WFH spot. The staff were all great. I went on either their first or second full day open, and they were slammed, but everyone was kind, helpful, and smiling. I went for pastries and cappuccino. I was surprised by the disappointing look of the baked goods through the glass. The breakfast loaves looked dry, the croissants looked chewy and deflated. Regardless, I ordered a pistachio chocolate croissant and my cappuccino. As mentioned in reviews for their Bethesda location, the croissant wasn't flaky at all. It was squishy, which is not a good look for a French bakery. The pistachio interior was like a pudding more than a paste, which was also strange. The drink was meh. There's way better coffee at Compass next door. Way better pastries at Christophe across the road (though their loaf cakes are dry too ). I initially figured maybe these were opening week issues, but seeing similar reviews and photos for their Bethesda location, I no longer think they are. I want this place to be wildly successful, bc I want the neighborhood to be wildly successful. I suppose only time will tell. read more

A great addition to Georgetown! Very on brand. It's classic New York French Maman except it's huge on the inside. That's the best part. And there's a back room where you can work on your laptop. So in some ways it's actually better than the nyc one . Overall cute inside and outside too. They're quick with service but still ironing out small issues because they're new so I give them a pass on it. Pretty busy yet we were able to get a seat immediately and not have to wait too long for food. Hubby ordered eso martini and liked it along with a regular coffee. Coffee portion is big. Pastry assortment was my fave - chefs choice of oatmeal and raisin, chocolate and macadamia and a croissant. We should've probably eaten that last but it arrived first. I was full after half my tuna on baguette, not my fave way of prepping it but it was ok, and hubby ate his ham and cheese croissant which he said was perfect. The drinks that we got were good, but after we signed the bill and gave generous tips, our server repeatedly asked if the service was good. When we said yes (I would assume he would know this, given the tips), he took out a QR code, held it there, and asked if we could give him a review on the spot. This felt uncomfortable, given that we had already given him his tip. If he asked for this before the tip, or if he had given us a card to take home (rather than pressuring us to give him a review in front of him) it wouldn't felt so misleading. I had never been to Maman when one of my students suggested it as our lunch spot. It was an easy walk from the Georgetown University campus and, ironically, I ran into another one of my students on the way there so we walked in together. I asked both students about the venue and they both gave raving reviews so I was looking forward to it! Upon arriving, the first impression is how cute the restaurant is -- it goes for French cafe and pulls it off well! I loved the decor and how bright and well-lit it is with greenery accents! So cute and inviting... The bakery case is impressive and, after seeking advice from the student at the register -- Hadley -- we tried both the chocolate latte cookie and the white chocolate blueberry lavender bundt cake. They were both tasty -- thanks, Hadley, for the recommendations! However, to be honest, that cookie was particularly satisfying. It had my two loves -- chocolate and coffee, though, so I was biased! I also tried the Youky's Club Sandwich and that was impressive! The presentation was lovely but I was most impressed by the massive slab of bacon in the sandwich. Overall, it was tasty as well so I would recommend it. Next time, I will try the coffee as my students also recommended that! No one tends to the tables, it's a waiting game to get your order, they constantly forget requests (I.e., for water or silverware that you need to enjoy the meal), and are not considerate of the space they place your party at. read more

Cute coffeeshop and restaurant in Georgetown. Definitely tight on space no matter where you're sitting other than the back patio. The salmon sandwiches were all They dropped the ball on our coffee orders (basic drip coffee and a latte). No matter who we told no one was able to secure our drinks which is, frankly, weird for a cafe. We never got them in the 45 minutes we were seated. After the waiter removed them from the bill, he did come back with a random to-go iced tea for my friend and to-go drip coffee for me. Maman is a cute restaurant with a small menu with some seasonal items seems appealing. The atmosphere is pretty chill a spacious and relaxed environment. The service was great! They have a process with numerous servers who are quickly there to take your order. I received my order within 10 minutes. - enough time to check out the rest of the restaurant space. I ordered Maman's breakfast sandwich. There were some hits and misses. The bun was tasty and the bacon was cooked perfectly. The eggs being cooked to perfection is another positive aspect. However, it seems that the avocado overpowered the sandwich and made it messy. Personal preferences can vary when it comes to avocado, so it might be a matter of taste, but avocado needed some salt if it was going to overpower the rest of the ingredients. Additionally, the roasted potatoes and onions were a nice addition to the meal. The cost of this sandwich was roughly $14. Maybe that's why the avocado overpowered the other ingredients. #letmedown read more

I had heard so much about this place, I really wanted to like it! I went on a Saturday morning and they were completely packed, super busy, so I just ordered a Katie chicken sandwich to go. The sandwich was pretty disappointing. The bread was so hard it tore up the roof of my mouth. I couldn't eat it! I ate a little bit of the chicken inside but was disappointed with the sandwich overall. I gave the rest of the sandwich to my brother who agreed that the bread made it inedible. It is a very cute spot though! I am interested in trying other things in the menu though like coffees and sweets. I was disappointed, but I would give it another shot. read more

I have walked by many times and they are very busy so I thought food and service would be extraordinary. NOT SO! Hostess greeted me asking me if I would like to sit at "bar seating " I declined so was seated at one of Bens tables near kitchen. I ordered simple ham and cheese omelette w mixed greens and a Croissant on the side instead of toast. The coffee and croissant came immediately.Thirty minutes later I asked Ben to "top off" my coffee and he explained they do not offer free refills. Ok, but in light of the lengthy wait for my food he could have made and exception. Over the next 15 mins I asked twice about my omelet and was told "one minute" then "one sec". No apology for long wait. As my food came the manager walked by and I explained the situation to him. He offered to fill my coffee; No apology or explanation for wait....I am attaching photo of dressing soaked salad and "lunch meat" ham omelette! Ben did offer a "sorry about that". i loved this place! went for brunch on a sunday and it was packed but we were able to get a table in about 5 minutes. the inside is beautiful! it's also huge; we sat outside on their patio which is all shaded and was really nice as well. you can dine in or order coffee/pastries at the counter. really beautiful space, they also have LOVELY dish ware. our server was really nice and very attentive even though they were so busy and we were outside. to drink, i got the ice honey lavender latte. it was great! not to lavender-y or too sweet. they have lots of season coffees as well as really fancy coffees and more milkshake looking drinks. to eat i got the papa's breakfast bowl and it was fantastic! i will be going back for it, it's potatoes, bacon, aïoli, avocado, and an egg. i also got a side of the chocolate banana bread which was really good! the prices also aren't too bad, around $5 for the bread which was very large and $15 for the breakfast bowl which was also very big and filling. they also have a lot of gluten free and vegan options (including gluten free bread). i can't wait to go back already! read more

I cannot believe at 6 dollars plus a pastry that you would have the audacity to serve not fresh stale croissant dough. I got 5 pastries (pumpkin cube, caramel cruffin, cinnamon bun roll, this long sage truffle butternut squash thing, and a strawberry basil scone). All I can say is that was the biggest waste of $30 ever. Not a single person enjoyed their pastry and after spending over $120 dollars, I had higher exceptions. This is my 3rd visit and my last. My first two werent great but I reallyyyy wanted to love this place bc I used to visit maman often in New York and was excited to finally have the same here so I gave them more chances. Unfortunately the only thing that's "the same" is the cute decor. The to stay coffee cups and to go coffee cups are the only good thing about this place. What a major disappointment. If you're looking for something you can photograph but not consume- this is the place for you. (I will, in the spirit of fairness say on my 2nd visit to this location I did have a farro bowl that was exceptional. I ordered it again yesterday and it was horrible.) not sure what's wrong with this place but I would cross the street and go to Yellow Cafe! They've been consistently delicious although expensive. This was my first time ever trying Maman. I'm a dc local and love supporting new businesses in my area! However I was left with a terrible taste in my mouth -- not due to the wonderful food, coffee and cashier, but due to the disgusting and abhorrent treatment I witnessed from a manager to the employees working there. This man openly scolded the employee for kindly accommodating the woman in front of me in line, and then scolded the customer for asking for assistance. There is no excuse for mistreatment of employees by management, and if he's willing to act so openly hostile and disgusting in front of customers one can only imagine the toxic environment they make in the back of the restaurant. I have no interest in ever spending my time and money in a place that provides employment to toxic managers and I suggest everyone does the same until action is taken. read more

Pastries were okay, you can warm them up but they won't offer it when you order. Food was mediocre and drinks were underwhelming. You seat yourselves but the service was really disappointing. The two main cashiers had cold attitudes and the barista made racist remarks towards me and my family which I was so appalled by. All the workers need to be ret-rained on hospitality; I understand it's a relatively "easy" job but having front of house workers who are standoffish and on top of that make racist innuendos will definitely lose you customers quick. read more
