I have eaten at Mama Roberto's 3 times in the past couple of years. On each visit, the server was pretty good, the food was just ok, and the portions were huge. I did have a negative experience with the owner on 2 of the visits, which I found strange since I can't think of that happening to me at any other restaurant I have visited. On one visit, the owner tried to seat me right next to a party of 10, even though the restaurant was practically empty. When I asked for a quieter table instead, she made a big production of rolling her eyes and showing me how put-out she was. She moved me to a table that might have been a foot or two further away, then huffed away. Several times during the meal, I looked up to see her glaring at me. On the second bad visit, I ordered a meal that I just didn't care for. It was a dish with sausage, onions, peppers, mushrooms, pasta, and sauce. The problem was that the vegetables were cut in huge chunks and were practically raw. I picked around and ate some of the sausage (which was very good) and some of the pasta (which was bland and almost tasted soapy). The waitress came by to refill drinks and noticed that I had barely eaten any of my meal. She asked if there was something wrong with it, and I said I just didn't care for it. The waitress was nice and apologized that I didn't like my meal. A few minutes later the owner came flying over and to tell me that this was a very popular dish and she never gets complaints about it. She aggressively asked what my problem was with it, to which I told her I didn't like that the vegetables were almost raw. The owner then gave me a condescending lecture on the difference between raw and al dente, like I was an idiot. She told me she couldn't help it if I ordered something I didn't want and there was nothing she could do about that. She said something I couldn't make out under her breath and stormed away. Bear in mind - I had not complained, I simply told the waitress that I didn't care for my meal when she noticed I wasn't eating it. Nor did I ask for a discount, a different meal, or to see the owner, yet the owner made me feel like I was trying to get away with something and treated me poorly. I will never come back. There are tons of great family-owned Italian restaurants in Lake County, who treat you better, and make you feel like they value your business. read more

Although I go out to eat on average four times a week, I rarely write reviews. This time I'm making an exception. I used to go to Mama Roberto's at least four times a month. Back then their food was good enough to ignore the rudeness of the owner's wife. I would go to the counter to pay and she would act like she was doing me a favor by taking my money. Nothing but nasty looks. She never said "thank you". I would occasionally say "you're welcome" as she handed me my receipt. Her response was to give me an even nastier look. The food quality and service started going downhill a couple of years ago. The garlic balls were burnt quite often. Their marinara sauce was not as good. The service got bad. Others who dined with me said that their Alfredo sauce (which I never liked from the start) was even worse. As the food quality went downhill, the owner's wife's behavior became more and more intolerable to me. I stopped going. I went once in 2013 to find out if the food quality and the owner's wife's disposition had improved. Neither had, so I haven't been back since. From what I've been reading, I will never step foot in this place again. I don't understand why they would need to know about a Groupon ahead of time. Does having a Groupon mean you don't get the same quality, quantity and service as others? What other reason could they have? The cars in the parking lot have been getting thinner and thinner the last few years. And that was before the owner's wife did what she did to that woman with an oxygen tank. The owner better realize pretty quick that he needs to get his wife out of there now!!! read more

This place is the absolute worst. I purchased a Groupon right around the time the story broke out about this restaurant harassing a terminally ill woman. I did not want to lose money on my purchased Groupon so we went against my better judgement for dinner. The food was average nothing great, and the place was deserted, which gave me a laugh, because they probably deserved it. Well, Groupon asks you to review restaurants after you visit, which I did. Someone from Mama Roberto's wrote me back and this is what they said (I copied and pasted) "Way a take a stand! P.S.- ever heard of spellcheck" Ummm-- have you ever head of spell check, nasty Mama Roberto's staff person? Probably the same nasty lady who freaked out about the Groupon in the first place. What is going on over there? Why in the world would they write this? You have nothing better to do, then to harass every single person who gives you a not so stellar review? I guess that is all they have to keep them busy now, since no one wants to eat there anymore. I admit my review had some type-o's in it. Mainly because I posted from my phone, but wow this is how a place of business responds? Will never, ever eat there again and neither will my family who were frequent visitors until this happened. read more

This is a REAL review. It is interesting how some "people" can write a review for this place based on a news cast and they have never been to the restaurant. In fact I have been going to Mama Roberto's for several years even before we had childrren. They are older now and as you sit down you will notice all the awards hanging on the wall and will expect food to be fantastic. It is all that and more than you can eat! Rick the owner always treats us like family. He never leaves the place. A week ago he gave my daughter a gift card for her birthday. At most places you are lucky to even get free ice cream. The jukebox is free with hundreds of tunes, the restaurant has been recently remodeled and again I have never had a bad meal there ever. One reviewer is right the pizza is fantastic there. They used to have an all you can eat walleye meal that we enjoyed. The walleye made up for the just fair service. We returned after being away for awhile, due to hibernation, only to discover when we asked for more fish, that there is now a $4/piece charge for more fish. All you can eat is all over with. We like walleye, but $16 for 3 pieces is pretty pricey. If the all you can eat meal returns, we may return as well, but we're finished with Mama Roberto's otherwise. The owners are rude. The portions are much too large for one person and do not reheat well. They have a fee for sharing dishes that are expensive to begin with. food isn't even up there with Olive gardens chain if that says anything about them. If you want expensive food that lacks quality over quantity this is your place! You'll hsve plenty of crappy food that only gets worse with reheating! Where to begin, from the 25 minute wait for our waitress to stop over to us to get our drink order, to the cold pasta entrees my wife and I ordered, I don't see what took so long getting our food and drinks. This place is an absolute JOKE. I grew up in the italian section of Collinwood in an Italian family and this place is an insult to the real thing. Canned tomatoes for spagetti sauce!! Come on. Owners, especially the female, is WAY less than friendly and can be absolutely RUDE. The "sauce" is just chunky tomatoes-- and doesn't "coat" the pasta. You get a lb of pasta, but the sauce is yukky so who cares ? I'd rather spend my Money where the atmosphere is friendly and the sauce is awesome. Not recommended . read more

Food quality not good, although they give you plenty of it. If you really want a decent Italian meal in Mentor, try Casa D'angelo's, and the service will be better also. While my waitress was very friendly, the owners are not. I do not enjoy hearing the staff being LOUDLY reprimanded. Skip this restaurant. read more
