What a delight! We tried Malbec & More for the first time. The wine assortment was varied and well curated. I opted for the South African Sauvignon Blanc and my husband had a Rioja. Both were excellent. The menu is mostly a nice variety of tapas. We got a Caesar salad which had the perfect amount of traditional Caesar dressing. We also had the meatballs served with bread and the brisket bruschetta. Both were delicious and enough to eat. For desert we had the chef's special "More of This". They were not served on the bone, there was no sear, and they were not tender. The reduction sauce resembled traditional brown gravy. The meal came with a side dish and I ordered a garden salad which was chopped and served with a delicious lemon olive oil dressing. The bread was fresh with a crispy exterior, and the fillings were appropriately portioned. The quality of salmon used was excellent and fresh. We ended our meal on a high note with a slice of blueberry cheesecake and Oreo chocolate ball. I highly recommend the Oreo chocolate ball with a glass of wine, it is dense and soo chocolatey and dreamy! You can eat it in small pieces as you sip away. The blueberry pie was FANTASTIC. The crust, filling, everything was on point. We had the opportunity to talk with the owner Justin a bit and learn more about the space. This hidden gem is a one of kind place! We decided to check it out after hearing a raving recommendation from our neighbors and we were so delighted! We decided to sit at the wine bar and try and Oregon Pinot (my fave) and sample some of the tapas. We tried the meatballs, fried manchego cheese with jam and the bacon wrapped dates. The meatballs were AMAZING! With a mixture of Italian sausage and beef with a hint of cayenne pepper; the flavor literally explodes in your mouth. The manchego cheese was also so delicate and airy. And, who does love bacon wrapped dates (also lovely) To top it off the owner, presented us with peanut butter Oreo ball that was out of bounds heavenly! Adorable spot - definitely worth checking out - you feel like you're in someone's home. It's so comfy, the food is homemade and the owner is super nice! We came in early enough that we were able to get a nice table with the giant king and queen plush seats. They have a regular menu, daily specials, and another menu on top of that - all had amazing selections. Their wine menu is ok - which it would have more unique selections, and was a bit more extensive - but I think the owner will get there (and the pricing is very reasonable, yay). He (the owner) said the food was homemade and bragged a bit about his's mom's lasagna (poor woman probably wants to retire, and now he has her making lasagna for him all day, joking). Anyway, the tapas menu had a lot of amazing choices, so we'll have to come back soon. We ordered the Greek triangles with homemade tzatziki to start, along with the pita bread with chicken and pesto. Both were great, I was very impressed! We also ordered a bottle of unoaked Chardonnay, which was very good - and 50% off, so heck yah! Owner was such a nice guy and so appreciative of our business. Guess it just wasn't our night. This place is small and cozy, but it was still difficult to get decent service. The group sitting outside (with only water in front of them) actually came inside after a half hour to find someone to see what was going on with their orders. We got there and took the only open table. We waited ten minutes (trying to flag someone down) just to get some menus. My husband was able to order a glass of wine. We decided to share an order of burrata from their tapas/small plates menu. It took quite awhile to get there. When it did come, it was fine. A small round piece of cheese on top of some mixed greens with a bit of balsamic and some pesto. It would have been nice to have had some bread served with it. We hadn't ordered our main meal, when another server tried to take away our menus. Seems they only have a few printed and didn't have enough to go around. A couple was seated at the bar directly behind me. And I mean directly. So much so that I couldn't move my chair back or in any direction. The marble tables are heavy so that it couldn't be pulled forward either. It was a bit claustrophobic. We finally flagged our server down to order another dish. We chose again from the small plates menu, as we figured these dishes might be faster to receive. We ordered their baked chicken wings in a lemon marinade. Again... a very long wait to receive them. There were five wings in the order. The marinade was the best part. Unfortunately, the wings weren't cooked enough on the outside, so the skin was a bit fatty. Had they been run under a broiler or crisped first, it would have been quite good. By this time, we were frankly tired of sitting. Each encounter took excruciatingly long to fulfill. And it seemed our server disappeared between any contact. I finally decided that maybe if I stood up someone would get the hint that we needed our check. I won't go into details of how we figured out if I turned sideways I might get UN-wedged. Anyhow, as I stood by the table we were finally seen by the chef? Owner? And asked what we needed. We decided it would be faster to go to the counter to pay -- which we did. He was apologetic, but it was a little bit too late. If you're going with a group and want to leisurely spend a couple hours chatting over your (expensive) bottles of wine, then that's one thing. But if you come for just a glass and some food, make sure you aren't hungry or planning on doing anything else that evening. read more
