The medium spicy beef broth was so tasty. Def has a lot of Szechuan pepper in it. Their beef & lamb were fresh. Just wish they had more options for vegetables .. we really liked the noodles they had. The only thing yin tang has over this would be that yin tang has fish balls with roe in it. Otherwise we would come back to mala master if it wasn't so far.

BYOS Heaven Build Your Own Soup is the name of the game here. There's a tidy and easy to follow layout. Choose your broth, pick out your favorite ingredients, and BOOM soup is ready! By the north wall, you will find a BYOS table. (Build Your Own Spice) and it's fun! Choose spicy or savory condiments to complement your soup. YUM I chose the bone broth as I'm an avid spice chaser. I do wish there was another option for broth as the bone option is the only one that can be spicy. Service was quick and relaxed, no micromanaging here!

Second time I've been here at it's just as good as the first. The servers are extremely polite and accommodating, the food and portion sizes are absolutely incredible (I always have left overs), and the interior is peaceful, yet eye-catching (my fave part is the restroom signage). SO GOOD. The broth hits. Got spicy because the guy said that crazy is crazy spicy but...I'd say the spicy is probably like maybe a 5. Will get crazy next time. Good selection of ingredients and a self-serve sauce bar. My friend LOVED the pepper oil which I think is like a peppercorn oil, so if you want some more numbing action add at will. Service was great. Clean interior and plentiful parking. Bonus: Get a free rice when your order is $20.

Pretty good place! I've been looking for another place like this in the area. Their broth is very good however I wish they offered more options for things in my pot. They can also have more choices on their skewer options. I would come back here. Service was good and a full house on a Friday night!

The "buffet" selection was fresh and plentiful! Lots to choose from and all presented so well. The customer service was great, since we had never been there we appreciated the instructions on how things worked. I chose the beef bone broth and although I like spicy I kept it mild so I can add more spice later at the sauce bar. I mixed sesame, chili, oyster, scallions and garlic together and it was delicious. The hot pot definitely came out piping hot in these big beautiful bowls which made the experience even more authentic. It was delicious, I'll definitely be back!

This hot pot place is decent. Its serve yourself style. They give you the bowl with tongs and you get to pick your ingredients. After, they weight it for you. $12.99 a pound. The soup has a few levels of spice and the base is a choice of either beef broth or sweet tomatoe. The meats were on the fatty side. There is a sauce bar.

A newly opened malatang restaurant, $12.99 a pound. It is set up as a self serve bar to choose ingredients then give the bowl for them to weight and cook it. They have various types of noodles, meat, seafood, fish/meatballs, and vegetables but selection is smaller than other places I've tried. They have tofu skin, fried tofu, spam, 3 types of meat/fishballs. For meat, they have liver, sliced beef, pork, shrimp, mussels, squid, scallops, and tripe. They have lotus roots, bean sprouts, rice cakes, baby corn, bamboo, sliced potatoes, woodear mushrooms, and several types of greens. They have a tomato broth and beef broth with various heat levels. I chose to get a bowl of slices of spam, fishball, lotus roots, chrysanthemum leaves, bok choy, napa cabbage, bamboo, wide glass noodles, and quail eggs with medium heat beef broth. The wait time was not long, I used it to get the dipping sauces. They have sesame paste, sesame oil, chili oil, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, chopped garlic, chopped chili, and barbeque sauce. They also have a fridge of skewers that you give them to cook. They did have lamb skewers, sausage, sweet potato, and vegetables. The bowl came hot with plenty of broth, it did have a good amount of heat. I did not eat the broth much but got my toppings to dip into my sauce bowl. I forgot to ask if they sell bowls of rice alongside the hot pot or if they have a dry, broth-less version which I've tried at other malatang places. The staff is nice and the restroom is clean.

My husband and I ate here for lunch today. They are located right next to Mr. Dumpling. We arrived as soon as they opened at 11:00am. There are plenty of indoor seating. Since it was our first time, we asked if they could explain to us how it worked. They told us to grab a bowl and start filling it up with whatever we wanted; fresh vegetables, seafood, meat etc. Then we take the bowl to the cashier to be weighed. My husband got the tomato soup and I got the beef bone soup. My husband picked the udon noodle and l picked the thinner ramen style noodles. You pay by weight and our soups came out to about $17. They cook your creation in the kitchen in the back. We saw they had skewers in the fridge too so we picked a variety to try and an order of sweet potato fries. Our food didn't take long to come out. The skewers came out first. We are able to grab sauces and garnish with garlic, green onion, cilantro, chili, sugar, sesame oil, soy sauce etc. Our soups came out and the broth was so flavorful for both. It's a chill ambiance and I can see us coming here when the weather is cold. It's December now but why is it in the high 70s... lol. We will definitely be back.

Mala master is my new favorite hot pot place. With fresh ingredients and amazing pricing. With a pay by the pound pricing, its prices beat all of the other hot pot places in SGV and OC. They have ingredients that are not as common in other hot pot places, which I greatly appreciate. Including sweet potato noodles, woodear mushrooms, all the meat / fish balls, tofu skin, and more.

Was looking for a good ramen place locally. Normally with ramen, the toppings are limited. The soup base has a hint of bitterness to it. Here at Mala Masters, I can literally customize my toppings, seasonings, and noodles. YES, it's an individual hot pot. But I eat it like ramen. Extra free seasonings are on the side too. Perfect. For $12.99/lb, you can't beat it. Service is fast and friendly. The restaurant ambiance is clean, neat, well lit. And they play fun music, too. Only critique was my bone broth was extremely salty. I had to ask for water repeatedly. They have a good selection of proteins and plenty of vegetables. It was a real treat! Of course my eyes were bigger than my stomach, so I have leftovers for dinner! I come here 3-4 times total so far and this place becomes one of my fav now in Rancho. Always good and fast service. Food is delicious. Clean environment. I always choose classic beef bone soup. $12.99 per lbs which is more affordable compared to other similar places. They also give complimentary a bowl of white rice if you order $20 and more. BEWARE -- they may short your meat! I'm trying to be fair, but something felt off. I chose mostly sliced lamb and filled my bowl close to the top. I cook a lot, including sliced lamb, so I'm very familiar with how much it shrinks -- usually around 20-30%, never anywhere close to half. But when my bowl came back, it looked like at least half of what I put in was gone, if not more. I tried to consider whether it was just shrinkage, yet my cooking instincts are telling me it was definitely more than that. Unfortunately, I didn't take a before photo because I didn't expect any issues. They also advertise free rice for every $20 spent, but no one mentioned it. And when my wife asked for to-go containers, the staff gave her unnecessary attitude, which only reinforced the shady vibe. I got the beef broth spicy (one level below "crazy"), and it wasn't that hot in my opinion. The soup itself was decent, but not very mala (numbing spicy). The selection is also on the smaller side, with a pretty limited ingredient bar. Overall, the whole experience felt off, and the missing meat was the biggest red flag. read more

We found this spot via google map and it has good reviews, we always go to the mala spots in Rowland heights and their quality are about the same, we really like how they decor the space here, it's more quiet and locates in a safe neighborhood, easy parking. There are only Tomato Broth and Beef Broth I love that it's so simple, ingredients look fresh for us, considering we are last minute here on a weekend. read more

We came here and tried it for the first time. The people are friendly and the restaurant was good decent size. So we got our own food. The thing I like about this place is we pick out our own food and we put what we want and how much we want it. Asked for spicy broth and it was pretty spicy. Which i like. And got some skewers too and it was delicious! The broth was creamy and flavorful and rich with spices. but it has some kind of spice that makes my tongue numb. Idk what that is. We've been in a mala streak this cold season and we've tried so many malatang places in the past couple of months. This place has been in my yelp bookmark since learning about the spot late last year and we finally got to try it. The place is put together nicely. Very trendy interior and welcoming. Their setup is simple with the counter and ingredient buffet in front and the bbq skewers + sauce bar on the right side. Service is good, the server was nice and always smiling. She also refilled our glasses with ice cold water almost instantly every time we asked for a refill. We went around dinner time on a weekday and it was not busy at all with just 3 parties inside the restaurant. I wonder how 2 staff would handle a full restaurant, but nevertheless, they were really nice. They even accommodated our request for my 8yo daughter to try a sample of their "under mild" beef soup as she does not eat anything spicy. Since I just mentioned the food, the 1 star deduction comes from the food tbh. The ingredient selections are good and their price per pound is pretty fair. However, in comparison to the other mala places we've tried so far, I think their soup needs a tiny bit more flavor. I'm not saying it's bad at all, it's still pretty good. But even after adding all our selected ingredients, you would think it will add to the flavor of their beef soup but it was still lacking richness. And also the other reason for the 1 star deduction is their lack of option for kids. They only have 2 options for soup flavor and the commonly chosen beef broth does not have an option to remove the spice from the soup. So kids are left with the sweetie tomato soup option which is too sweet for our liking. Out of all the mala places we've tried, this is the first place that doesn't serve beef soup with zero spice. Another family with 2 kids came after us and they ended up walking away because of the lack of spice-less option for kids. Other than that, we still enjoyed the food and we will still come back to try it again. I think they still deserve the 4 star rating. We are just happy to support more and more asian spots that are opening in our area. Good luck Mala Master! read more

What a spot. My family and I frequent Mr. Dumplings and we're so glad that we have another spot. The value is definitely there as you pay portion of the cost for going to a Shabu Shabu without the need to over eat. Broth is delicious. Spicy, flavorful, and totally satisfying! I came to Mala Master Spicy House for lunch and built my own bowl with their classic beef bone broth--I like my food spicy, so I turned up the heat a bit, and it did not disappoint! I loaded up with bok choy, napa cabbage, chrysanthemum leaf, bean sprouts, mushrooms, fish tofu, sliced beef, and sweet potato noodles. The broth was rich and deeply flavorful, and the spice level had just the right kick--enough to make me sweat a little but still enjoy every bite. The ingredients were fresh, the beef was super tender, and the noodles had that perfect chewy texture. The chrysanthemum leaf added a nice, slightly herbal twist that balanced everything out. I love this place. Great broth with pay by weight option. The customer service is consistently attentive and accommodating. If you know this location, I swear this unit was cursed because none of the businesses would last. I think and hope Mala Master is here to stay. If you can't handle spicy at all, then you can get the tomato broth with no spice at all. But I do prefer beef broth since I think it has better flavor. read more

An excellent mala hot pot spot in the IE! It is only $12.99 per pound and they have a variety of veggies that I've yet to try before! Walked in Monday afternoon with no line! Was met with great service and provided a bowl and tongs to pick my hot pot toppings. All my favorite staples as a Chinese American were there! Another one of my favorites is the shrimp paste, it comes in a plastic sleeve and you can cut a corner and squeeze it directly into your hot pot. Do be warned, their English is limited. However, they have an easy to navigate website and you can order everything online for pick up, just show them your order on your phone (remember to screenshot the order). My personal favorite thing to do is to buy veg/tofu/noodles at 99 ranch, then walk over to Red Hot and get the protein and soup base. The meat here is much better than anything you can get at 99 ranch.

At first, I thought the amount of food you get for $30 was not a lot compared to AYCE Hot Pot options BUT realized halfway through that everything appeared deceptively small and they actually gave enough where I could not finish everything. I do think the added $4 for a scoop of gochujang-looking paste was a bit egregious to make my broth spicy though. The brisket was also on the tougher side compared to KBBQ, possibly due to thicker cuts of meat. Overall, I liked the Mokkoji experience and pricing was fairly reasonable. I understand why they have multiple locations and would definitely be happy to come back to fulfill my shabu shabu fix!

Shabu Wara has been our go to shabu shabu spot since moving to this area and it's been great. Service was never their strength, but we glanced over it since it's the only descent shabu shabu restaurant on the area. Over the past few months, service has gotten exponentially worse with each visit. Our final straw was being seated and left unacknowledged for 10 minutes. No drink orders, no "we'll be right with you", nothing... This would've been the point of walking out, but my kids were saying they were hungry and going to another restaurant at that point would've been too late for their bedtime. I ended up walking up to a server who was about to help another table that was seated after us and said we'd like to order as no one's helped us. After finishing what he was doing, he walked up to our table with an ordering tablet and didn't say a word, just stood there staring at us. He took our order, got it wrong a few times, then FINALLY got our food. Not one server checked in on us the whole meal. Not one server offered the check. Just constant flagging down servers for everything. As I mentioned before, I reached out to management via email to try and bring this up on a professional level, but my multiple emails were left unanswered. I write this not to bash a business, but in hopes management sees this and starts correcting how their staff operates to not destroy an otherwise good restaurant.

I like this idea because you can add however much you want of your favorite items. My boyfriend and I shared a bowl for around $28 - the serving size is pretty big and we ended up with a decent amount of leftovers even between the two of us. We barely waited 5-10 minutes for them to finish preparing our soup and our expectations were exceeded! The perfect amount of spice and flavor, we were in heaven. This is a mala restaurant so beware when they say spicy they mean it! I went with mild as I'm not great with spicy but it was manageable for me but definitely had a kick. It felt like they weren't putting any care into their dishes, super salty as well. On top of that, the service was awful. They seem like they don't want to be there.
