    Sweet potato fries
    Michelle T.

I love this place so much! Truly a gem, it's my favorite restaurant and I've never had one before! This is a cute cozy small business that sells amazing mala. I always order the same thing: tomato soup and sweet potato fries. They are always nice and even with a lot of people coming in, the service for a one man show is amazing. I'm a sucker for sauce and you better believe I have my dipping sauce all loaded up. I especially appreciate their packaging to go as well since I never finish my bowl so I get leftovers! But yes the food is superb, the soup is steaming hot, fries are fried fresh on order and they have a good selection of veggies. The only thing is sometimes I confuse the lamb and beef meat together oops. Will be coming back 100%

Foods are cooked just right. Love the big bowl so that the soup doesn't splash everywhere. Service is fast, efficient and friendly. The place is clean, bright. Just a bit smaller if the lunch if dinner crowd are there. You can order the spiciness from non spicy to very. Even has the tomato based soup if you don't want the bone broth. 4 stars instead of 5 because even though I ordered the non spicy one, my tongue still tingles from the " Mala ". May be it is always in the soup.

The medium spicy beef broth was so tasty. Def has a lot of Szechuan pepper in it. Their beef & lamb were fresh. Just wish they had more options for vegetables .. we really liked the noodles they had. The only thing yin tang has over this would be that yin tang has fish balls with roe in it. Otherwise we would come back to mala master if it wasn't so far.

I should start out by saying I make hotpot at home all the time and usually don't find it worth it to go out for hotpot. I'm also from the SGV so I have high standards for asian food. Since moving to Rancho a year ago, I haven't really found any great Chinese food places. This place met my standards! The broth flavor was fantastic and the price was also really good. Even though the ingredient bar was relatively small, they had a good variety of things and had everything I normally like in my hotpot. I will say that some of the meats weren't in fantastic condition -- the lamb, which is usually my hotpot meat of choice, had a lot of fat and was tough to chew. However, the spicy beef was REALLY good in flavor and tenderness. I was surprised to favor beef this time. The place was packed when we arrived at around 6:40 on a Friday night. There was one group in front of us in line. Despite the wait, they were very efficient at managing the time. They had us go pick out our ingredients before our table was bussed, so they could get us started while they used that time to clean our table. After ordering, the food was ready within 5-10 minutes. Definitely recommend and will be coming back with friends and family!

    Cockroach in the malatang

Visited on 7/1/26 around 5 PM for malatang. As I was almost finished eating, I found what appeared to be a cockroach in my food (see photo). It was absolutely disgusting. My friend also found cilantro in her soup even though we don't eat cilantro, and the "clean" tongs had food residue on them. This experience made us seriously question the restaurant's cleanliness. I will never come back.

BYOS Heaven Build Your Own Soup is the name of the game here. There's a tidy and easy to follow layout. Choose your broth, pick out your favorite ingredients, and BOOM soup is ready! By the north wall, you will find a BYOS table. (Build Your Own Spice) and it's fun! Choose spicy or savory condiments to complement your soup. YUM I chose the bone broth as I'm an avid spice chaser. I do wish there was another option for broth as the bone option is the only one that can be spicy. Service was quick and relaxed, no micromanaging here!

My friend and I were eating mala hot pot when we found a cockroach in the food. It was absolutely disgusting and completely unacceptable. We immediately lost our appetite and had to stop eating. This was a serious food safety issue, and I hope the restaurant improves its cleanliness and hygiene.

SO GOOD. The broth hits. Got spicy because the guy said that crazy is crazy spicy but...I'd say the spicy is probably like maybe a 5. Will get crazy next time. Good selection of ingredients and a self-serve sauce bar. My friend LOVED the pepper oil which I think is like a peppercorn oil, so if you want some more numbing action add at will. Service was great. Clean interior and plentiful parking. Bonus: Get a free rice when your order is $20.

Second time I've been here at it's just as good as the first. The servers are extremely polite and accommodating, the food and portion sizes are absolutely incredible (I always have left overs), and the interior is peaceful, yet eye-catching (my fave part is the restroom signage). I will continue to show this placeoff to anyone looking for a great bowl of soup!

Really enjoyed my visit to Mala Master. The interior is nice and clean, and the overall setup is straightforward and easy to follow. It's self-serve malatang. You grab your ingredients with clean tongs, choose your soup base, then they weigh it and charge based on that, which I like. My girlfriend had the mild bone broth and I went with the tomato soup base, which had a pleasantly sweet, comforting flavor that balanced everything really well, especially nice on a rainy day. Service was friendly and efficient. The only small downside was being seated right by the door. It was windy and rainy that day, and the door kept blowing open, letting in cold gusts of air. That said, it didn't take away from the food or overall experience. Still a solid 5/5 and I'd definitely come back.

Pretty good place! I've been looking for another place like this in the area. Their broth is very good however I wish they offered more options for things in my pot. They can also have more choices on their skewer options. I would come back here. Service was good and a full house on a Friday night!

The value is definitely the main highlight, pricing is fair for AYCE and you get a decent variety of meats, veggies, and sides. For a casual hot pot night, it's hard to complain on cost alone. That said, there were a few things that made the experience a bit less smooth. Parking was a challenge since the plaza gets very busy, so it took a while to find a spot. Inside, the setup was also a little confusing at first the hot pot being built into the table takes some getting used to, and it made it slightly awkward to get the soup out comfortably while cooking. Food-wise, it was good, but the refill timing was inconsistent. A few items like meat and fruit ran out faster than expected, and we had to wait a while, sometimes close to 30 minutes for refills to come back out. Service was okay overall, just a bit slow during peak rush. Still, for the price point and AYCE format, it's a good deal. I'd come back, just with lower expectations on speed and pacing. 4 stars mainly for value.

Lowlights: they don't offer bbq - just hot pot. They only have 2 levels - $20 or $45. The basic meat is self-serve, but the premium meats came out all at once. There's a penalty for food waste. We got the premium option for hot pot dinner, all the meats came out at once already portioned for our group of 4. As nice as it is to not have to wait, it doesnt take into account that we would've wanted to pick and choose what to order and maybe abstained from some options to get refills of the options we did like. When the meats all come out at once, it's hard to know which is which. The only obvious distinguished proteins were the seafood, which is presented really nicely. The veggies/noodles/sauce bar weeds well stocked and had the typical toppings you want for your soup. For dinner, the restaurant seemed lean staffed, which was fine since it wasn't busy and we got seated in an obvious spot.

The dining process is super convenient and straightforward: you select your favorite soup base from options like Tonkotsu or Spicy Miso on your order sheet, choose your starting cuts of meat, and then head over to the self-serve area to round out your meal. The quality of the food across the board is top-notch--the meats arrive fresh and finely sliced, and you can reorder as much as you want at no additional charge. What truly sets this place apart, beyond the delicious food and attentive service, is the comfortable dining environment. Unlike many other hot pot restaurants where the heat leaves you sweating through your meal, the AC here is powerful and keeps the room perfectly cool. We stuck to the beef and the pork belly which was very good, the beef not so much though. The buffet bar had plenty of options and sauces so that was a plus but unfortunately the lack of service really made this experience a two-start rating. We were greeted (dryly), seated, and left to figure out the confusing ordering sheet. Thankfully we have experience with HotPot and (sort of) figured it out and even after we expressed concern about how we were suppose to order/write down our meat selections per round (which they claim is unlimited but they only have 3 columns on the sheet) our questions remained unanswered. Trying to flag a waiter down to order more meat was a pain as hardly any were available and we were missing appetizers on our "second" but with the way the service was we figured there wasn't any point in bringing it up not to mention the lack of (flat) soda refills. I doubt we will be returning.
