This is a much delayed review but I wanted to make sure I shared my unforgettable experience... About 2 months ago, my container pod arrived from the mainland and after calling 7 different storage places, I found one that was affordable, close by, and most importantly, had the space to keep the container pod overnight for pickup. What I didn't factor in, was the truck that would have dropped off the pod, was too large for the narrow and busy streets around the storage place, and I only had the following day to have it delivered. It was also a holiday weekend so I knew the likelihood of finding a moving company to load my things from the pod to a moving truck... in less than 24 hours... was slim and I was ready to face my brother's long suffering, passive aggressive sigh when I'd ask him for help. (Even though several of the boxes I brought over were his! But still). Alfredo was the only one who could answered my cry for help, because let me tell you, it was getting to ugly-cry level because after 10 very intense months of project planning my life and moving back home, I was so wiped out from all the curveballs & couldn't believe I had another one to deal with. When I heard Alfredo's deep rich laugh after a joke I made about my brother disowning me if I tried to store all my stuff into his 600 sq ft bachelor pad, I could feel the stress melt away... it was going to be all right and I was ready to eat 7-11 musubis for a while, in case this cost me a fortune. I just wanted what remained of mine and my family's belonging, in a safe, secure, room temp controlled place. Alfredo and his team were patiently waiting for me at the container pod place and I really wished I had put on at least a little makeup ( I can be a bit vain...) because I got to meet Alfredo and his team. On top of being a group of handsome men, they just had great energy, positive vibes, they were super sweet, very quick and I think Alfredo and team might have been Tetris champions in a former life. I appreciated the way Alfredo guided and communicated with his team & as someone who has ptsd from terrible, selfish, power hungry bosses, I respected his leadership style and thought he was one of the rare, good ones you'd want to work for. I love these guys! From beginning to end they were thorough and extremely efficient. In fact, they were so quick we finished early! Saving us time and money. Usually when people rush into things, it's not always a good thing. But with these guys - they took every safety measure and communicated with us every step of the way to make sure our things were packed and transported with care. They have a stylish truck that pulls up, and it only takes them a few minutes to wrap everything up and strategically organize. They wrap your furniture for free! I know some places charge extra for that service. And they have moving blanket to protect all of your electronics and glass furniture, which I had a couple of. It was also nice that the movers were super friendly! All the crew members we worked with were cool, younger guys. They were local and friendly, and well in shape. I loved the way that they could strike a conversation with us as well as how they worked well with each other. Even the booking process with Alfredo, the boss man, was super friendly and made things stress free. Did I also mentioned that Alfredo comes along to all of his moves? You must have all things boxed yourself ~ which saves on moving costs. Alfredo wisely advised: get small /xsmall moving boxes from Lowes/Home Depot. I put paper labels on boxes w/ the Room it needs to be placed in (K/kitchen; Bed1, Bed2, Bath1, Bath2; etc etc) so the guys know and for myself put what's in each box. I advise stuff u use daily, have a "special box/es" for that so easy to find & open ~ like your medicine/vitamins, toothpaste/toothbrush, coffee, cereal, soap, etc. The team was always friendly, upbeat, fast, worked like a great team, and strong. They wrap your mirrors, breakables like lamps/large pictures in moving blankets so safe in move. For your organizing carts w/ drawers, leave stuff in ~ they'll wrap in packing saran wrap so easy to transport. I found them on Yelp and chose them bc of the reviews and also after speaking to Alfredo on the phone. This moving company is hands down THE moving company you should choose, Oahu. For reference I'm a 5 foot tall, 100 pound single female who lives alone. These guys have the planning, skill, and strength to execute on a move in a way that inspires awe. They're not kidding when they say "efficient". These guys are so efficient and so effective at moving, they moved basically my entire apartment from door-to-door in an hour and a half. The team that helped me was the owner (Alfredo), Tyrone, and Richard. As other people have mentioned, I too, reached out to them in crunch time. They moved me 3 days prior to the end of the month, leaving two days to spare-- one for the professional cleaner, one for the professional pest control. Thanks to Making Moves, I was out in time. I had reached out to other moving companies that quoted me extremely high hourly rates, and that required video consultations-- Alfredo is clear cut and straight forward. They're prompt on the phone, agree to come, show up, and move you, point blank period. They even helped me pack up some of my remaining items and boxes that I couldn't get done before they arrived (at 7:30am... and believe it or not they had even moved someone else before they got to my place). Boxes that were taking me 5 minutes just to construct and tape, they whipped together in five seconds. Boxes that were taking me about 10 minutes to pack (because, again I'm 5 feet tall and had to climb up onto a stool to reach things, and then transfer the items down into the box) took Alfredo 10 seconds. I watched Alfredo transfer my entire lazy suzan of sauce bottles from a high cabinet in my kitchen down into a box with one hand, in three seconds. They truly deserve 5 stars! I contacted several of the top rated movers through Yelp, and took the time to describe my more unique small move from a studio with little furniture except a sofa, and upload photos of my packed stuff. All of them except for Making Moves responded with a generic canned response and made me feel like I wasted my time. Alfredo gave me a reasonable estimate based on what they saw. Not only were they the only ones to respond personally and specifically to my situation, but they had a straightforward flat rate per hour without a variety of extra fees, which also would not have made sense in my situation fit a small move that was less than a mile away. So right off the bat they easily won my trust with communication and the good value estimate actually based on my move. It started out great but gets even better. Alfredo communicated with me by phone and text to make sure we were both on the same page with everything, to make sure both condo security desks would be prepared, to know exactly where the loading dock was, etc. They parked and got signed in and were actually ready even before the scheduled time. Alfredo and 3 others greeted me and everyone was very friendly and professional. They all moved fast and were very careful with anything fragile. I learned how a team of 4 is ideal (and much better than 3) in order to efficiently cover the loading and organizing at the truck, the elevator transition, and having 2 for wrapping, disassembling (in my case the sofa), and moving larger items. They also wore masks the entire time and require that for the client for everyone's safety. Because of their efficiency and since I was prepared on my end, my move only took 1 hour total instead of the 1.5 hour estimated. Other places would have changed a 2 hour minimum plus a bunch of fees. I was amazed out how well run Alfredo ran his operation from start to finish, and gave a generous tip. This was a temporary move while I was in the process of buying a condo, so when I bought a condo and it closed a couple months later, I of course used them again and their service was again consistent, fast and very professional. I've moved many times over the years and none have come close to having the high level of service and value of Making Moves. I highly recommend them, you won't regret it!!! read more
