    Just don't do it. ESPECIALLY if you have valuable items that are difficult to move or store. Going with MakeSpace for my recent storage and move added a completely unnecessary layer of stress that I'm still recovering from. In theory, MakeSpace is a great idea; pick up all your stuff, store it safely and securely, deliver it when you're ready. The execution and customer service, however, makes this absolutely not worth it. From my very first calls with a sales rep, I expressed concern about my large vinyl record collection. I wanted to ensure it would be safely stored. One benefit of MakeSpace is the hard plastic bins they provide. I repeatedly double checked the dimensions of the bins and got reassurance that the records would fit. I'd asked if I could get a spare bin ahead of my appointment to check but the rep said they didn't offer that. I packed them in the bags and waited for my appointment date. Immediately upon arriving, my movers said the vinyl wouldn't fit in the bins. This was of course my biggest nightmare and what I wanted to avoid. I had no choice but to race to the U-Haul store for boxes that would fit the vinyl. I stressfully repacked all of them in Medium U-Haul boxes, trying my best to pad and protect but it wasn't sturdy enough. Immediately upon loading them, some of the boxes started to rip. I watched as the truck drove away and I prayed my collection would be ok. It was too much stress imagining the records being crushed or damaged while they sat in storage for months, so fortunately a life-saving friend offered to store them instead. Upon delivering the boxes, some were extremely damaged resulting in some of the vinyl sleeves being bent, including records that are irreplaceable. MakeSpace doesn't offer insurance for something like a vinyl collection, so I had no choice but to eat the cost - get third party collector's insurance! Cut to September, I'm ready to arrange my things to be delivered to my new address. I called around September 18th, and they didn't have anything available for almost a month out. I couldn't believe it. One key selling point was the ability to have your things delivered when you needed them. I moved into my new apartment and spent over a week with no furniture as I waited for MakeSpace to finally have availability to deliver everything. All in all, just look for another service that has less strings and more willingness to work for their customers.

    I went through the entire process from storage to final pick up so I can give a final review. Storage Went pretty smoothly overall... but: 1. The movers almost getting into a physical fight with another resident in my apartment. Police almost got involved. Also wasn't wearing their masks (this was at the peak of the pandemic last year). 2. I had to leave during the appointment because I had an emergency since they were mostly done. Told the movers to leave the keys with front desk security. They left it with some random maintenance worker so I almost lost my keys and took awhile trying to hunt the keys down. 3. Didn't take everything with them so I had to contact Makespace customer service. They comped that pick up. 4. CSA very responsive over email and phone during pick up times. 5. Loved the Makespace bags they sent over so you can put things easier into the bins. They took pictures of everything so I could see all my items which I liked. I also thought I would be given private storage unit but they just put everything in a giant warehouse with everybody else's stuff. Final pick up: I started reading horror stories on yelp/google so I decided to move my stuff to another storage. Originally I was only planning to use their services for 3 months but it had been a year so I wanted to get rid of some stuff and move to a smaller unit. The biggest thing that made me move was that they raised their prices by 10x (went from 79 with movers to 799!!) what I was told at the beginning. 1. Extremely hard to get an appointment. I booked my own movers and was told I still couldn't get an appointment for a month. I was only in LA for 2 weeks so I had to plan around their appointment times. 2. Prices are all over the place - the website told me even with my own movers it would cost me $499 for an appointment - wtf? Then the iOS app (the only way you could set an appointment for pick up) told me $29. Then CSA told me $59. Super unreliable and you don't know when their price scheme is going to change. Which was another factor for me to move to another storage space. 3. Stuff generally in good shape - I didn't open all the bins yet (so who knows) but generally didn't see too much damage. My nightstand looks like it's completely falling apart though. Also of course they didn't keep any screws on things they pulled apart like my bed frame. Pretty sure they did lose some of my stuff (including my expensive scuba gear) but I can't double check because soon as my appointment was over, all the inventory disappeared so I couldn't double check everything. not sure if they didn't store it in the first place. Bad UX. Their workers were pretty quick although they almost forgot like 13 of my bins. 4. SUPER FAR AWAY. Their warehouse is in Ontario. I had to pay my movers extra fee because of double drive time (costing me extra 100 buck).' 5. Unresponsive CSA: The CSA stopped responding to me via email after I pressured them about appointment time availability and the pricing changes. They only responded once I posted a review on Yelp. 6. A lot of paper work for the my own movers: I've never seen any company request so much paperwork for movers... Moving company had to sign a contract as well as showing their insurance coverage. Most moving companies did not have the insurance Makespace was requiring but luckily I got through anyways. A lot of back and forth with my moving company, just glad they were flexible about it (highly recommend Urban Moving Company they were fantastic). Overall: So far as I'm aware, I got everything I stored in the first place back (think some things got lost during pickup). Not sure of the shape quite yet since I just packed everything away again into another storage. But from what I can see... Looks like things aren't too damaged! I was expecting worse since people had such a bad experience. Would I do this again? No... I think I learned my lesson and will be using traditional storage from now on. I can access it anytime, don't have to worry about crazy price changes and dealing with CSAs. I also don't have to worry about things getting lost. I also didn't save any money since I spent extra $500 on my own moving services. I also didn't like the fact they put everything into one giant warehouse with everybody else's stuff. I also worry that they might go out of business, not sure what they would do with all the stuff then.

    I am sorry to say, that what started off as a great experience ended quite poorly. When I retrieved my boxes they had been punctured, smashed up and badly beaten up. One of the people delivering my boxes was not wearing a mask properly. This is appalling based on the fact this person is going from home to home with a potentially spreading the virus. Training of staff for the safety of customers and themselves shoukd be a priority. It clearly is not. The customers items are also clearly not cared for. I highly recommend that of you do not want your items beaten up and broken you DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! However the person in custoker service tried to help, but was bound by the inflexibility of the company, so for him, he can have a star. Other than that, this company should be ashamed of itself.     I believe it's only fair to share my experience to public after trying to address my concerns with company first which was not successful. I have attached relevant photos so you can make your own judgment. At the time of redelivering my boxes due to poor management and handling specially with boxes specifically labeled fragile, I ended up throwing out half of my glasses and plates. Please be aware that even though you might be doing the best wrapping and labeling, with lack of responsibility and care in handling your stuff you might not get them back in a usable conditions.

    Just finished moving today. Moving inherently is a very stressful and unpleasant experience BUT my movers from Make Space made it go very smoothly. Honestly, it far exceeded my expectations. My movers Edward C., Little Rich, and Benjamin were extremely helpful and went above and beyond. They took great care in wrapping and packing everything while also being courteous and abiding social distancing guidelines. Makespace has made moving back home during this pandemic as stress free as possible. I am hopeful the movers who deliver my items back in the future will be just as great as Edward C, Little Rich, and Benjamin. Thank you all!!

    We got our entire apartment moved today to storage by this company and I have to say I am SO impressed but the tean that picked all of our things today!! Yusuf, Humberto and Larry were suuuuper friendly, very professional and so quick to take our things! They were also very careful with everything, packed up all of our belongings very securely and the biggest plus: they did not mind my two crazy dogs' barking and were actually friendly towards them!! Highly recommend this service! You won't regret ;)

    Whatever you do, do not store your belongings with MakeSpace. Don't be fooled - the pick up went well and they were on time and wrapped all my belongings. I was very excited to have found such a great company that made moving so easy, but I thought too soon. The first item I had dropped off was my couch and it was missing the legs and had a tear in it. It was an 8 month old couch that was over $1000. I was nervous about my other belongings after this first drop off. The next time they came they delivered the rest of my things. I watched them carelessly stack the boxes and then have them all fall over. They shattered my glass floor lamp. After setting up my new apartment I realized they also must have dropped my marble side table. It has a whole chunk out of the side. All around a VERY disappointing experience and I would not recommend this service to anyone. It sounds great, but it is all too good to be true which I learned the hard way. Also, they breeze over protection plans. The only option available when you sign up is the "Basic" one and you are unable to change it before signing up and putting in your credit card. Apparently they asked me if I wanted to change in a phone call, but definitely felt like they were making it difficult to sign up for the more protective plans. I will probably get only $100 for my couch and much less for my lamp and table after the 6 week claim process... PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LARGE MAJORITY OF THE GOOD REVIEWS ARE FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE ONLY EXPERIENCED PICK UP AND NOT DROP OFF!!!

    Hi, My items have been picked up on tuesday but up till this day it is still on processing.. is this normal?

    Not that I know of. It has never happened to us in a yr. I would ring customer service, they’ve been incredibly helpful in the past.

    Is the fee an all inclusive flat fee (per day) depending on the size of the container, that includes packing, moving, and delivering? What are the sizes and prices of the containers?

Not sure why any business would not take stealing from another customer serious especially when it comes to a storage unit. As any other storage unit customer we expect to have peace of mind and clarity when it comes to stealing and it being resolved in the appropriate manner. Stealing is unacceptable and has no place in this world. The part that really concerns me is they have video of the persons doing it and are not doing anything about it. What happened: I booked a storage unit to store items and I'll be honest it was a very smooth process applying and obtaining it. However it turned into a total mess the very first day I stored my items. I was placing items through an elevator and didn't fit a couple of things so I left it near the elevator. It's important to note my items were inside the premises and also had a camera facing them. Any person with common courtesy would kindly ask if the items were being thrown away or if I would still be needing them. However that wasn't the case when two persons took our items and were gone by the time we were back. I talked to the manager the next day (she was gone the day of) about it and she got back to me stating that they had footage of the persons who did it and were going to reach out to them to get our stuff back or have them pay for it. Days passed and all they said was the account holder was very sorry and couldn't believe what his brother had done. Management did not make the person accountable whatsoever.

They have given Public Storage over $100,000!! Yet, when they pass, even with a trust, they wouldn't give me access to to the unit. Have to wait 40 days after death. That's understandable. But they want me to pay for the whole month. Not even prorated. It's frustrating already having to deal with grief and funeral expenses and a company not showing compassion. Especially when they've made so much money off my family. Also, when I first called, it seemed like as long as I cleared out the unit by the end of September, I would be fine and not have to pay for October. So I rushed to get their form signed and notarized. And later to find out I wasted my time and money. I don't give bad reviews. You can see all my reviews are positive ones. Think before you get a unit here. There is no humanity. If you die, your loved ones are out of luck and will owe money. They refused to provide video documentation from the security footage or provide me with any information as to what happened. One week later, I received an email saying, "Vehicles stored in your parking space are in violation of one or more of the stated terms and conditions of the Addendum to Rental Agreement for Parking Spaces that states: I agree to keep the vehicle in [...] "roadworthy" condition." I found this email to be an insult to injury. The area is not safe and the staff is completely unhelpful.
