My 15' truck broke down at 1:30am in freezing temperatures in New Mexico, and I had to sleep in the truck with it off until the uhaul dealer six miles away opened at 9am. I didn't have warm clothes accessible and had to freeze for hours and hours. I had to spend hours unloading and loading a fully loaded 15' truck because I couldn't trust movers to properly handle my motorcycle. Uhaul was going to pay movers $500 and instead paid me and is claiming that is reimbursement of my $4200 paid. The new truck i picked up got me pulled over in Dallas because of the tag light being out. The entire ordeal set me back more than twelve hours causing my brother to miss his work shift and losing hundreds of dollars. The first truck i picked up i had just completely filled up with gas before it broke down and I spent $90, and the second truck only had half a tank and corporate told me that I can return with a quarter tank or less and claimed to put notes. When I got to Orlando to uhaul in hunters creek the extremely rude employee Louis or Lewis said I owed $102 for gas and claimed they didn't see the notes from corporate. I will post everywhere about the horrible customer service and not being reimbursed properly. read more

Terrible service. Was okay storage (even with the weird hours.) I was told I would be emailed a password to pay online but wasn't- only to have them sell my things. Sonia wasn't helpful and continuously called me by the wrong name- which probably explains a lot of the lack of communication and overall bad service. Just go to Public Storage- it's around the same price anyway and a lot less of a headache and you might get to keep your stuff! read more

So upset at these guys, and will never use them again on principal. I was running behind on picking up my Uhaul because packing was taking longer than expected. I called 5 times between 10:45am and 11:45am just to keep them informed that I was running late and would still be there. At 11:45 I spoke to a woman who said, "Don't worry, it'll still be here." Showed up an 12:15 to get it. Turns out they close at noon! In spite of my ridiculous efforts to make sure we got the truck, no one felt the need to inform me they were closing??? They rented me a truck that somebody had clearly urinated on the front seat and they refused to give me any kind of refund. It was disgusting. I had a space for about a month here while I was transitioning from living in an apartment to being homeless. Rented a truck from em & carted it all down there from NoHo. They let you drop the truck & key off after hours without charging anything extra which is nice, since they close at 6pm Monday through Saturday. The people who run the place are very friendly and accommodating. Considering that I wasn't planning on moving into another spot and couldn't afford to keep paying rent, I was in there organizing and going through my stuff all the time. They play nice selections of classical music and jazz standards kinda stuff and it provides a nice soundtrack if you gotta be in there a lot. This place is right across the street from a Public Storage facility, and honestly you'd have to be a damn fool to go to PS instead. Thriftee is independently run by nice people and you don't have to look very far to find horror stories about how PS has sucked. Go here if you need space in Echo Park! read more

Although I had never rented a storage unit before, I had heard horror stories from just about everyone I knew. Therefore, I was feeling really uneasy about having to use one for a little over a month, especially because I had to stash my most prized possessions.... my vinyl. Upon arriving here, it was obvious this was the place. Each and every employee was courteous and helpful, as well as accommodating. After being unable to fit my insanely oversized couches into the initial storage unit they recommended, they gave me a larger unit at no extra charge! Not only that, when I finally went to grab my stuff out of here a few days after the month had past, they prorated the month I had paid and refunded me the rest! How awesome is that! In addition to the great customer service, they have available trucks for rental at great rates, as well as just about any packing and moving equipment you may need available to borrow. A few things to keep in mind, is that they close pretty early, for those of you that work later than 5pm, and gets super packed on the weekends, so plan accordingly. But definitely worth the inconvenience, knowing that your possessions are safe, and won't get wet from water leaking all over them, or being chewed up by rats. I like that. read more

The building is on Glendale Blvd, just north of Alvarado and south of the 2-freeway. You can't miss the bright yellow sign. There's also a small parking lot right after you pass that sign, but I just parked on the side street cuz it looked a bit cramped in the lot. You have to walk through that lot to get to the office. So... I called to rent a U-Haul truck. I spoke to Stewart on the phone who was extremely friendly and helpful. He took my reservation and told me that I could pick it up that afternoon. I go in and he takes my info, etc etc, then takes me to the truck, shows me how to open/close the cargo and all that stuff. THEN as we were walking back to the office, I see this huge flappy chunk of rubber on the tire! I point it out to him and he was as concerned as I was. *Please remember to inspect your rental before driving it out of the lot!!* It totally would have been MY liability if something happened. So Stewart points it out Felipe, the manager, and he said he will take care of it right away... and they set me up with another, NEWER, truck.. but I still decided to get the insurance because now I was worried :/ They close at 6pm most days, so if you return the truck after hours, there's a drop box for the key at the gate. They just charge your credit card after they check the mileage. Overall, the customer service was excellent. I would definitely go back. *edit - I returned to get the truck around 9pm and a bum had his tent tied to the side of the truck and looked so sad when we told him we had to move it and that he would have to take it down. So just FYI, shady area at night! read more

I recently needed a storage unit for the first time ever. Absolutely terrified of how to know I was picking the right place, I yelped and came across thriftee. I have nothing negative to say! They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable! When I decided I needed to rent a truck too, they helped me get it in and out of the tight spots (the parking lot is a little tight, but the side street has parking too if you need it). When it came time to move my things in, I didn't have anyone to help me (there was a last minute change in time) and I had a love seat, mattress, and dresser to get up a flight of stairs. Not only were the staff members helpful, but so were the other renters- not something you experience all the time in LA! I definitely know I made the right decision in storage and renting a truck! read more

I will never go to this place again, which is unfortunate because it's by far the closest place to rent a U-Haul. They made a mistake noting the initial mileage of the truck I had rented and tried to overcharge me by about $30. When I pointed this out, showing them on my phone the address that I had driven to and straight back from (my house is on the way back to the drop off point, half a mile away) they pulled some super sneaky nonsense, entering a different point of origin into Google maps on their computer to make it look as though I had driven many miles further than I had, tried to insist that it was my fault, and when I wasn't having it tried to laugh it off. The whole thing left a really bad taste in my mouth and has cost them my business. I'd avoid this place, or if for some reason you have to deal with them, watch your ass and write everything down. $30 is a lot for a stupid mistake. read more

Came here to rent a u-haul to move out one of my stores and needed it asap and the service was very fast and I was out and in the u-haul in less than 15 min! GREAT service! I booked a truck at a place closer to my house on the main U-Haul website. The night before, I was told the truck was no longer available and I would have to drive further to pickup a truck from Thriftee. Although not totally out of my way, U-Haul charges by the mile so the extra drive was going to cost me extra $. When I arrived at Thriftee, the staff was friendly, polite and understanding. They moved quickly to get me into a very clean truck (less than five minutes). Upon my return, I realized I had forgotten to get gas, and the owner (remembering my extra drive) was kind enough to waive the charge. read more

I came here to rent a U-haul truck! I had placed an order online on U-haul's main website and all my information was ready to go when I got to this location. There were two guys working here and both were really helpful, efficient, and friendly. I was in and out of their office within a few minutes and off and driving in my pimp U-haul truck! I have to admit, it took some getting used to driving a truck with no back windows. There are those blind spot mirrors but those didn't stop me from nearly crashing into some rice rockets speeding along on the freeway. On the website, it says you have a 4 hour limit to use the truck but the guys working here let me use the truck the entire day and I was allowed to return it after-hours too if need be without extra charge. They also didn't care much about the typical wear and tear you'd inflict on the truck by moving your stuff. They just didn't want to see any huge holes in the truck when it's returned. I'd recommend this U-haul location if you live in the Silver Lake area! read more
