This review was meant for Feb 2019, but it sat in my draft for the past 5 years. I have no idea what is happening to the business today in 2024. The male owner was very kind and welcoming, and storage rates were reasonable. I think we should be fair in rating the place because you get what you pay for... Don't expect to come into an expensive storage facility. I didn't see any trash or cockroaches, so that was good enough for me. As you should with any boxes, always seal the gaps properly. Not the best-looking storage building, and without the latest upgrades, but that's what makes their monthly prices cheaper than anyone else! Have been here for years without any problems or complaints. There are no elevators, only stairs, but there is an employee that drives a mini truck that will help you take your things up and down the building. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Avoid this place at all costs. Their own staff broke into my mom's storage room, stole items from her storage unit and then denied it. Even after paying them ONE YEAR in advance, upon trying to close her account with them the woman in charge of checks lied and said my mom never gave them any checks. She refused to look despite flapping the checks of other people in her face like a stack of cards. Upon my mom saying she saw her check as she performed this ridiculous action, the woman still denied seeing her check. Somehow it became my mom's responsibility to convince the woman to not lie. You get what you pay for, kids! The ceiling leaks, causing mold and mildew throughout the units. Unfortunately, the guy working the front desk doesn't understand why this is a problem. This is the worst experience I had In my entire life. We rent it a storage for four days at this place and he charged me $80 after that, we were loading our stuff inside the car, and the owner's car were parked where the loading are, we didn't have enough place to load our stuff, my brother opened the car's door and touched his front bumper, and the owner started tripping and asking for money because his car were touched and small scratch on the car, I didn't want to pay any money to him and gave him my insurance and still he wants to keep taking advantage of this situation. And called the cops but the cops ignored him because we provided him with everything we can but for him he didn't want to provide us with anything not even his ID or insurance. Here is the deal... When looking for Storage one must take in to account several things. Location, Price, Security, Space, Hours/Access, and Service. U - Lock Storage is centrally located just south of Wilshire Blvd. at Normandy. For the fees charged I believe it fair to say they might be ever so slightly more than half of other facilities throughout the city. The generous amount of space for the dollar would be hard to beat anywhere. In order to access any unit here you need to go past the front desk. Each visit requires a sign in, and sign out. "Guests" must check in, and cameras are located on all floors. They close at night and on Sunday. This all works for me, I would bet this is one of the safest storage facilities in town. I can not say enough regarding the ease of use, consistency of fairness, friendliness, and posture of the ownership and staff at U - Lock. Transportation of items via the service provided is efficient and works. The structure may not be for everyone but what is? If this is the case, then simply go somewhere else. Resist the futile attempt to put it along side other facilities, that is a fools game. The structure was once a parking garage, yep...that's what it was, thus the unique design requires adaptation to use. I personally am very fond of this place, and think of it as a castle or fortress where I get to keep my stuff. What I love about this place is the NO HIDDEN FEES and NO COMMITMENTS! I thought it was too good to be true, but wow I was lucky to have found a storage place that really is flexible with my needs. I just needed a temporary storage space, but didn't know for how long. I knew at other places I would need to commit at least half a year or a year, but the front desk assured me that I could use the storage for how ever long I needed and move along my way. It's an amazing location with really helpful management and if I ever need another storage need I'll definitely be back. Don't waste your time elsewhere with the big name companies, it's all about staying local and small. :) read more

I just got discharged for the military and had my belongings which were stuff from my child hood and my parents before going bankrupt. Not wining but it was irreplaceable family things in my storage. After a few months i had gotten my self an apartment to my things in. This is where he got ridiculous. I asked him if i can have a pro rated price for two more days after my monthly payment and he said that he had to charge me the full month. Really? This place is a scam and this guy just sits there trying scam people for more money after inheriting this shit hole from his daddy. DO NOT come here! The management is relentless, money-hungry, greedy, inconsiderate, rude, and inflexible people! Get this. I had a storage unit there where I paid $200 every month, on time to keep old belongings. I was aware that there was a 5-day grace period to pay, and I needed those extra 5 days to clear everything out because the pick-up trucks weren't available until after the due date. When I asked if they could pro-rate for the 5 days since I won't be needing it after that and I can clear it out in that time, they said NO. They said their policy was that payment is due for the ENTIRE month and hey do NOT pro-rate. Okay. So fine. In order to clear it out for them, I decided to use the 5-day grace period to clear it out. I go ONE day after my payment was due to pick up some things and clear out the boxes I had in there, and the guy stops me and says that i can't take ANYTHING OUT because I was ONE DAY BEHIND MY PAYMENT! Can you BELIEVE that? And I told him we had a 5-day grace period, and he said that was only to PAY not to gain access to it. So he said I wasn't allowed to gain access to my unit to clear it out unless i paid. EVEN though my grace period wasn't up and i was only ONE day behind payment! I had been paying on time EVERY month until that point. If anything, I was trying to clear it out for them as a COURTESY because it is my belonging and my responsibility. So when the guy was being relentless and utterly PREPOSTEROUS, i told him to just take everything then and that i would forfeit the storage unit. i told him to take care of clearing it out and putting it up for auction because that would actually be doing ME a favor. What a bunch of RUDE, RELENTLESS, MONEY-HUNGRY, RIDICULOUS BUNCH OF FOLKS who have NO OUNCE OF COURTESY OR BUSINESS SENSE. An affordable storage option located in K-town. I was a customer here for two years and chose this place because of the price and close proximity to my home. The owner there is friendly and sign up process was fairly easy. The CON is that the process of moving in and out of the storage is notorious. First, you need to wait for a mini truck driver to be available to move your storage items to the mini truck (once I had to wait over 30 minutes). From there the driver will drive you up to the storage unit where he only seems to help out if you tip. The mini truck is tiny - if more than one person is present then the rest has to sit on the back of the truck which is a safety hazard. Keep in mind if you have many items you will need to repeat these steps back and forth since the mini truck is pretty small. read more

They great you with a smile when you arrive and have adopted common sense policies that make you feel at home. For example, there is plenty of overhead lighting and electric outlets are available on each floor. It's hard to get excited over "self storage" but this place actually made my experience as nice as possible. I started researching local storage facilities in Ktown or surrounding areas but was unable to find anything that stood out on YELP so then I had to just call around and get quotes. I mean, who wants to write a review about storage units. Anyways, U-Lock stood out when it came to the prices for various unit sizes. I wasn't expecting great costumer service when I called because it was cheaper than the other facilities, but after calling a few times with ridiculous questions I realized that the cheaper price wouldn't be at the expense of customer service. So I decided to pack up all the junk I needed room for and drove down and this really COULD NOT HAVE BEEN EASIER!!! I was greeted by the manager to pull inside and within a minute or two I had the size picked out that I needed and....THE BEST PART...some dude in a little truck drives down the ramp to load my stuff into his cart truck. I had needlessly hired a day laborer to assist me because I'm having back spasms this week. Over the phone they told me they would have a guy there to "help" but I was not expecting this kind of support. WOW! The only negative part was foolishly wasting money on my hired day laborer because I didn't anticipate that their worker would be capable much less willing load/unload my crap. But that is all on me and I'll believe them next time. From the initial phone call, to my 2nd visit today of unloading more junk, this has been about as awesome of an experience as I could've hoped for. I was not the exception here either, while I waited on the ground level (this is a high rise storage facility on the corner of Normandy and 8th) I saw the manager give the same attention and service to 2 other customers. Moving stuff to storage sucks. Doing it in the rain sucks even harder. Using the guys at U-Lock did NOT suck. I don't know what other services they offer in terms of moving you from 1 place to another, but for just finding a place that will safely store your stuff, you really can't ask for better. After leaving there I couldn't believe that there weren't more reviews for this place so I felt compelled to do my part. No customer service right out of the gate. Big red flag for me, so I feel it important to share.. They don't have a website, so I called to ask about sizes and rates for units. The call lasted literally two minutes, I was put on hold twice and then told "I can't hear you when the other phones here are ringing." I was barely able to ask the size and price of a unit when she said "I need to hang up now so I can answer other calls." It's 2016. Get a website if you're not going to answer the most basic questions about what your business offers. If you would have taken 3 minutes to answer my very basic questions...you would have had a customer paying you $80/mo for the next two years. Love this place! I've used lots of self storage and this place by far is the cheapest and most convenient place I've been to. The entire staff is extremely sweet and help you with everything. There's even a guy who brings a truck to help you get your stuff to your storage space. There's no hidden fees and what they tell you is what you pay every month. I really love this place so much!!! This is honestly the best storage in LA WITH the BEST prices available. I don't know what the other reviews are talking about. Kevin (guy who works in the front desk) is the funniest and nicest guy ever. He's very helpful to all customers (if they aren't blatantly rude to him) and he will accommodate for all of your needs! He speaks English and Korean and Luis (the guy who will help you move) speaks Spanish so most if not all customers can be helped. Luis is great and a hard worker; he is a big reason as to why U-Lock is the way it is today. Not to mention, there aren't any hidden fees and a very easy sign up and move in process. My family has been at U-Lock for some time and I wouldn't even think about changing storages. The only little bummer I have about them is that they don't accept credit cards :/. But who doesn't have cash or checks these days, right?! If I were looking around for a storage to use I'd definitely go to U-Lock first. But if you don't believe me then believe storage wars! I'm pretty sure that tv show has been to U-Lock several times and why would A&E go through all the trouble of going to a storage place with a "rude" manager and bad service when they could easily go to any other storage facility in Los Angeles? A great price that is hard to find and my items were safe no problems of any kind. :) There are a few parking spaces inside the location and a worker helps you unload your car on to a small truck and takes you to your storage and helps you unload, he is amazing! read more

U-Lock Storage has been a lifesaver for us since we moved into a smaller apartment in Koreatown. Its central location on Normandie allows us to easily access our storage unit about once or twice a week with no hassle. There's always parking and the owners are very friendly and helpful too. Gotta love Luis with his handy little truck who will help you load and unload your small/big items to/from your car and storage unit. Prices are great as well. We did lots of research before choosing U-Lock and have no regrets. read more

U-Lock definitely deserves a full 5 star rating in most respects. What ultimately drove me to give it a 5 versus a 4 is the price. For what I would be paying at a Public Storage, you get about double the square footage here for the particular unit I have. However, I do wish we could pay online rather than having to send a check or go in person. Also, getting up and down from the units can sometimes take a little while if there's a line of people ahead of you because there's only one cart that can go up and down the ramps. If you're okay with those minor inconveniences, I highly recommend this place because of the price and the super friendly staff. Been with them almost a year now, and I'm satisfied. My needs are met, the space is large enough for what I have, and the staff is very polite and helpful. The owner [?] even calls me by name, but I shaved my beard recently, so he asked who I was, but it was good to see that he cares to know who all is in and out of the building. No bugs or water leaks, and other people I've encountered there are all quiet, and like I said, the staff is very helpful if you ask nicely.
