Birthday for a dear friend, Dr.Rob, who turned 60 today! Lively place but prob great for happy hour meetup. Miles, our server was nice, place has nice ambience, great seating both indoor and outdoor. Typical american fare with typical drinks ! I started with nachos. It was solid! Steak chimichurri was really good with garlic green beans- my fav of the night!
We dined at Makers Union for Father's Day and it was such a great experience! I originally reserved a table for 7 but had family come in from out of town to surprise my dad and needed to add them, so I called in and Jayla was a great help in updating our reservation. We chose the unlimited brunch and it was A LOT of food!! From breakfast nachos to salmon and lox, there were great choices to choose from. The decor was modern and chic, loved the small pink plates (super cute) They even gifted all the dads a cigar. The highlight of our visit was when the co-owner, the owner's daughter, came over to check-in and wish all the dads a Happy Father's Day, such a sweet gesture I would definitely recommend this restaurant because both the staff and the food made this an enjoyable experience
Came here for the weekend bottomless brunch. The concept is family-style sharing with smaller portions, which was fun for a group, but at $34 per person, I expected a bit more in terms of food quality. Here are my thoughts: The Good: * The outdoor patio is lovely and a great spot to enjoy brunch. *Dog-friendly patio, which is always a plus. *The Nashville hot chicken tenders were delicious probably my favorite dish of the meal. *The chicken and waffles were also really good. This too the highlights of my meal. *The spinach and artichoke dip was rich, creamy, and exactly what you'd want it to be. Yummy!! * The Maryland Crab Benedict was okay 8/10! *The monkey bread was surprisingly tasty. *The wine was actually quite good and exceeded my expectations. The Not-So-Good: Some dishes were just average: *The Caesar salad was pretty sad and forgettable. *The smoked salmon lox was okay at best. The bread was great, but the salmon lacked freshness and the cream cheese spread was thin! *The nachos could definitely use more toppings and filling. *The French toast didn't really stand out. * The breakfast platter was disappointing. We asked for no potatoes, but it also arrived without the biscuit and honey butter. The bacon was overcooked as well. One thing that surprised me was the dog-friendly experience. While dogs are allowed on the patio, it would've been nice if the staff offered water bowls. I also noticed a jar of dog treats near the counter, but none of the dogs on the patio seemed to receive any treats or water during our visit. Overall, a mixed experience. There were some standout dishes, but for the price, I expected more consistency across the menu.
What a great place to go out for brunch or at night for drinks and appetizers! I really liked the blood orange mule I got which was sweet and refreshing. The she crab soup and bang bang shrimp appetizers were delicious! The soup was creamy with real crab meat, and the shrimp was soft yet crisp with lettuce wraps and lemon. They had live music playing on a Friday night. The bartenders were all super friendly and checked up on us. I would definitely come back again!
This was my second visit to this location. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by staff members. They let me check out the place before being seated. The bar area is self-seating.I chose to sit in the bar area...the only remaining big table with high chairs/table...it was packed! The happy hour is pretty awesome here. They have daily happy hour from 4-6 pm, which is pretty awesome, starting early and ending late. There is also a power hour from 3-6, where everything on the happy hour menu is $5, which is a little early!! The menu includes regular bar food and a variety of drinks (as shown in the picture). We ordered the following: -Let that "man"go - in general it's an iced drink, so I'd avoid. -Spicy pina marg - another iced drink. It was ok. -I'm Ron Burgundy (2x)- this had a nice strong coffee flavor, doesn't come with ice; I would highly recommend it...they made it so good!!! -Maker's mini nachos - There proportion of chips to toppings was off there wasn't enough toppings and too many chips, but there was a lot of cheese. -Calamari was a good portion, and tasty -Chicken tenders - they were delicious and moist There are so many items to choose from on the power hour/happy hour menu. I would definitely recommend lil B and the wings. There was live music, which was just way too loud for such a small space. We would have been okay with all the music. There is plenty of parking available in nearby garages, I believe free after 5pm. There is also timed/paid parallel parking. Would I return? definitely!
1. Reservation: recommended especially for Friday and Saturday when they have live music. 2. Food: quite good. Especially for restaurant week, it is great! 3. Drinks: strong, delicious and lots of variety 4. Service: great! very polite and leaves you alone. 5. Live music! 6. Beautiful interior, spacious, tall ceiling and well lit.
We went here for brunch and it was really good. They offer a $34 family style brunch where you can order from the family side and brunch items menu and share. The food was really delicious, but I wasn't a big fan of the salmon and lox, but it was still good. Our server was very nice and the entire staff helps out one another and are very attentive to your needs. it's a laid-back atmosphere and on a great sunny day you can really enjoy the patio area. I also saw a sign that says they have live music on Friday and Saturday. Go check it out.
Maker's Union, an American restaurant in Reston Town Center, offers a lively, welcoming atmosphere with a large bar, American pub fare, and outdoor seating. The food was enjoyable, though it did not stand out as extraordinary, and the prices seemed somewhat high for the quality offered. The Thai She Crab Soup was flavorful but served in a small portion, and the Poke Bowl was quite tasty but may be considered pricey relative to its size. The Monkey Bread was notably sweet, which may not suit everyone's palate, and the Prime Rib French Dip was satisfactory but lacked a distinctive touch. Service appeared to be slower than usual, possibly indicating a staffing shortage.
As soon as I stepped into Makers Union, I found the place cozy with an inviting atmosphere. The high-back booths and plush chairs in shades of blue and yellow make the space feel warm and comfortable. The menu offers solid, flavorful dishes, and the food itself was good overall. However, the biggest drawback was the temperature -- everything arrived at the table only slightly warm. From the calamari to the entrées, none of the dishes were served hot, which took away from the overall experience. With better attention to serving temperature, this could be a much stronger dining spot. The happy hour menu offered a good variety of items and really helped round out our meal. The 4 oz burger was smaller than expected, but flavorful. We also ordered the French fry tower, which was more than enough to share between two or more people. However, the small sauce dishes ran out quickly and I had to ask for more. The fries would have been much more enjoyable if they had been served hot. From the happy hour menu, we also tried the fish tacos, which featured lightly battered cod and were enjoyable. The spinach and artichoke dip was fine but the portion was on the smaller side. The standout dish of the meal was the braised short ribs, which were excellently prepared and very flavorful, though the carrots could have been cooked a bit softer. Service was fine overall. Our server checked in on us at least once during the meal and was polite and attentive at the start. However, toward the end of the meal, I asked for more water and never received a refill, which was a bit disappointing and made the service feel less consistent.
It was hard to narrow down a brunch spot in RTC abut we decided on Makers Union. It's a solid spot for a brunch. We got to enjoy the outdoor patio, which is dog friendly. Fast and friendly service.
Food Ordered: * worth trying - [Maryland Crab Cake Benedict*]: My husband substituted the breakfast potatoes for french fries and that was probably the best substitution; their french fries are double fried and perfectly seasoned and came with jalapeno tartar. The crab cake benedict was your standard crab cake benedict. There was a small piece of shell in the crab cake. - [Cornflake-Crusted French Toast*]: I loved the crispiness the cornflakes gave to the French toast, making it one of the most unique french toasts I've ever had. Similar to other reviews, I thought they skimped out the maple-pecan praline syrup, which was drizzled on top. I would recommend ordering an additional side of the syrup or asking for it on the side so you can control the drizzle. - [Poke Bowl with Salmon*]: My friend ordered this and I tried a bite. I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh the salmon was. - [Crispy Brussels Sprouts*]: I like the combination of sweet, spicy, and salty flavors along with the additional texture from the roasted peanuts. - [Fried Calamari]: The calamari had good flavor but it was a little fishy. I've never had the whole Moroccan-Style "Impossible" Kebabs meal before but I've had the kebabs themselves at company sponsored events and I would recommend them. I personally eat meat and, while they did have that distinct Impossible meat taste, they had a nice flavor to them. Some might be put off by the vegan meat flavor as I've had some coworkers tell me before. Would I go back?: Yes, if someone suggested going here. I have enjoyed pretty much all the items I've had and I think the Cornflake-Crusted French Toast and Moroccan-Style "Impossible" Kebabs are the most unique items I've ever had but none of the other items, albeit good, really wow'ed me. However, I would be open to trying some of their other items. I think it would be a good idea if they offered halal-friendly meat options like other Thompson restaurants (Big Buns in Reston and Matchbox in Ashburn).
Ambiance: nice warm decor. Large dining and bar area. Food: we can in for restaurant week. I ordered the steak and fries and my friend ordered the seafood pasta. The portions were small, especially for my steak which was a $5 up charge. I don't think it was barely 5 oz. My friend was looking at hers and there were no lobster. Our waiter was great and kindly asked a manager to stop by. He did go back and get our orders corrected. My steak was the lunch portion and dinner was supposed to be 8oz. They also gave me more than 3 broccolini the second time. My friend did get some lobster in her pasta as well. We joked with the manager that the cook totally messed up 2 meals for 2 at one table. That's not a good look at all. Service: waiter was great. He came by to check up on us often. He also apologized for the kitchen messing up our orders. The manager was great in listening and correcting the issues. I would also comment that we got our mains when we were still eating our appetizers. So anyway work on timing. I'm a bit torn on this restaurant. They had items that sold out on the menu, timing wasn't great and then the cooks couldn't get the portions nor ingredients correct. The service was great but I kinda had to have my food as well.
Went for dinner on a Saturday night around 730pm and surprisingly we were seated within minutes. The hostesses were super friendly and so was our waitress, she was also very attentive to us. We ate the menu with our eyes cause we ended up ordering the Brussels sprouts and oysters and they were absolutely delicious. I got the kebabs and my friend got the salad. Super good. The bartender even came to give us our drinks. I love how personal this dining experience was for us. Until next time Makers Union

My friend and I both ordered the Makers Flat Iron Steak and Fries ($34), and we thought it was pretty good! The fries were crispy and well seasoned with garlic and parmesan, the broccolini tasted pretty standard, and the steak had a nice chimichurri sauce drizzled on top. The portions were generous; we both entered food coma after this meal. The restaurant was super loud, so we had a hard time hearing each other. They also had a live band inside, which exacerbated this problem but was still nice nevertheless. Overall, we had a pretty good experience! read more
Really delightful experience ordering appetizers and the non-alcoholic Passionfruit Nojito. Our server was sweet and checked in on us regularly, refilling our waters as needed. The brussels sprouts and mac and cheese were delicious! I was full just sharing those. Would definitely love to come back again to try their other menu items. Loved the open feel of the space and had a warm, pleasant smell when we walked in the door from the cold outside. Bathrooms were clean and also smelled lovely. Better than a fowl smelling bathroom! read more

We're glad to hear you enjoyed our cocktail menu and found our venue…
We chose Saturday brunch for our first time dining at Makers Union and the staff and kitchen certainly impressed us! We elected to sit outside given the beautiful weather, allowing us to take advantage of the several table patio out front. Great for people watching and not too noisy from the adjacent street. Our server couldn't have been more welcoming, attentive and accommodating. My coffee left something to be desired, but I'm not going to be expecting craft coffee level at a restaurant prioritizing other things. Between the four of us, we ordered the Makers Union Breakfast (two thumbs up from a classic breakfast scramble/plate connoisseur!), Makers Flatiron Steak & Fries (also top marks), Maryland Crab Cake (beautifully plated with a generous amount of crab), and the Smashed Avocado Toast. I elected to sub scrambled egg whites for the poached eggs, which came with a delicious dusting of Old Bay. The focaccia was fresh and flavorful with just the right crunch to chew ratio. The avocado smash was mousse-like in consistency, with an expert level of seasoning bringing just the right amount of sea salt pop. Cherry tomatoes and shaved radishes added welcome acidity and crunch, while the drizzled olive oil really pulled the bite together. Thank you for the perfect pre-museum brunch, Makers Union team! read more

In the Reston Town Center there is an abundance of options for brunch, so we opted to try one of the newer entrants in the area, Makers Union. A solid menu, albeit a bit pricey for an unlimited brunch ($29/pp + $16 for mimosas (each being provided for an additional $0.25 charge). the outdoor seating, with plenty of working space heaters make dining al fresco, even in the middle of January bearable. Solid attention from the wait staff made the experience enjoyable. The Country Breakfast, 3 eggs, home fries, a country ham steak and biscuit, was a very hearty offering. Likewise the Crabcake Benedict was filling and tasty. A special treat was the avocado toast, with two large sized toasts with plenty of the green stuff , poached eggs and cherry tomatoes. This was definitely the hit at our table. The shareable of brussel spouts was over doused with the balsamic sauce, which was a bit of a disappointment (especially for $8). While not a bust, the brunch fare didn't knock our socks off. We'll be back to try a normal lunch or dinner, especially since the area and the outdoor seating are quite nice. read more

We're thrilled to hear about your positive experience at Makers…
Decided to eat here as Jackson's had an hour wait. Got the chicken and waffles to split. Chicken was great waffles a tad soggy. Ordered a side of Mac and cheese. Tasted the flour of the rue. No bueno. Server took it off the bill. Old Fashioned was good. read more

The vibe and atmosphere at Makers is great. Good good, beautiful setting and great service. My husband has a few vodka/sodas while I had dirty vodka martinis. The drinks are made with care, precision and speed. We were there for a drink a dessert this time around and had the bread pudding. Delicious. Overall, a great spot for drinks and dessert. read more

Went to brunch with my wife and good friend of ours. The restaurant was comfortably busy for a Sunday afternoon. The hostess was very polite when she asked if we had made a reservation. We got the bottomless mimosas because we wanted to make the most of our Sunday Brunch session. We felt that $27 bottomless mimosas was a little bit steep when you also have to pay another $1 for every additional mimosa you get. The mimosas tasted average. They came out slightly chilled too. In regard to the food, we all shared the plates we ordered. The chicken and waffles tasted good. The eggs Benedict was on point. The chicken fingers hit the spot too. Overall, we had a nice afternoon at Makers Union. We will definitely return for brunch again. read more

The food and service here was great. We sat outside and the area was very nice. I ordered the crab cake benedict, which was delicious, but the side potatoes are the star of the show. I would go as far as to say they might be the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. My biggest complaint would be the lack of vegan options on the menu. read more

Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're thrilled to hear that…
We were looking for a place to eat after riding on the W & OD trail and found Makers Union on Yelp. The reviews were great, and the venue, food, and service did not disappoint! Two of us had the Ahi Poki bowl and our third had the kebabs. High marks on the food! We also had fantastic service from Jalal, he was really attentive and we had some great conversation too! Looking forward to returning in the not too distant future. read more

After having a really nice dinner at a seafood restaurant in Reston Town Center, we came here for a nightcap. Upon entering, they were packed, I think it was around 9:30PM. But within about 30 minutes the majority of the people left, the bar was pretty empty, so was the dining room. Service was decent, definitely friendly. Quality of the drinks was decent too. The vibe is energetic for sure with cozy décor. The menu looked interesting, but since we just ate, we weren't hungry. I could see coming here for bar bites and drinks sometime. read more

Makers union Makers union is pretty good. We went at 11 on a Saturday morning; there was no wait. My friends and I ordered three dishes to split: spinach and artichoke dip, strawberry shortcake pancakes & classic eggs Benedict. The chips for the spinach and artichoke dip weren't salted so they were flavorless and some were kind of soggy. The pancakes were good, it was just pancakes with sliced strawberries on top. You could've made them at home. The eggs Benedict was by far my favorite. The Benedict themselves were tasty, but the potatoes were cut in too large of chunks that some bites didn't have much flavor. Our waitress was outstanding and extremely friendly. read more

Makers was such a cute spot for a late dinner! I popped in on my last night in Reston (work trip) and it was perfect. I snagged some small plates, wings and brussel sprouts, and for apps they were actually perfect for a meal (and obviously delicious). Both bartenders were awesome; super nice and kept all of us at the bar taken care of. If I'm back in the area, I'd absolutely make another stop here! read more

There is parallel parking available as well as garages. We entered through a revolving door and was greeted by someone and was able to be seated without reservations on Monday afternoon. They have inside seatings and outside seatings available. The staff was wearing their mask at all times. It was around 2pm and we were provided brunch menus and asked if they had a lunch menu which they said they did not. I ordered: Makers Byo Classic Burger (very bland) Cornflake Crusted French Toast (very sweet) Chicken Fried Steak (very bland) Nashville Hot Chicken Tenders With such a beautiful spot and clean restaurant, it is unfortunate that the food wasn't that great. read more

We came on a Saturday morning for brunch with friends. There is easy parking in the town center's parking garage, and there was plenty of open seating. Overall, the food was pretty middle of the road, and a good place to go if you want some classic American brunch food. There was nothing particularly bad or stellar about our visit! I did feel like the food was a little overpriced, but perhaps it's expensive to have a location in RTC. We got salmon eggs benedict with potatoes, and an egg scramble. Both were decently good - but definitely too salty and oily/greasy for our liking. Eggs benedict tasted fine and didn't re-invent the wheel. Specifically the garlic bread that came with the egg scramble was probably not the best side given how oily and cheesy the egg scramble already was. Perhaps it's just me - but I don't want to be eating something that heavy first thing when I wake up. This place might be better for lunch/dinner in that regard. Overall, this was good food that could probably be found at a diner-esque place for slightly better taste and price. I don't think we will personally be returning but can understand why it is as popular as it is! read more

This restaurant looked very much like a pub but the food served surpassed my expectations. Had the artichoke and spinach dip as starter. Came out fast and taste great well seasoned. The risotto was very good. Scallops were cooked perfectly. Very light in butternut squash flavor and the portion was. Just right. Had the tiramisu for dessert, it was served in a wine glass type goblet. Sort of difficult to eat but it was very tasty. Very attentive servers and hosts. Will come back again. read more

Sandra, your a rockstar! Friendly service is always memorable. 1000% recommend the Brussels sprouts with hot honey (ask for extra hot honey, thank me later). I got the alfredo, nothing too special. I asked for fried chicken but it got drenched in sauce so I recommend asking to go light/less on the sauce for this dish. The salmon looked good too, I didn't get to try it (hah) but husband liked the food so much it was a clean plate in the end! read more

I randomly picked this restaurant, and I am so glad I did. I had an amazing time here. The food was GREAT, and our waiter Nate (who works at the DC location, but worked out of Reston for the day) was amazing as well. I would recommend this place for brunch, and dinner. read more

Let's start this review by saying I was so excited to try this restaurant after seeing several videos about it on Tik Tok! I was so excited upon arrival! There were so many people there being social and it was the first time since Covid-19 you saw a packed restaurant and for a moment it made me feel like what this world was once like before the mandates and social distancing. All you saw was people enjoying good food and drink! For all my health freaks... all wait staff was wearing masks and disinfecting as they should so zero complaints there! I ordered the alcoholic slushy of the day which almost knocked me out. Perfect taste with just the right amount of alcohol that prepped me for my big meal! I ordered the wings and lobster Mac (not pictured) as an appetizer and they were really lacking in flavor but the steak entree made up for it in so many ways! The chimichurri sauce was PERFECT! My medium steak was so flavorful and the fries really were the best fried I'd ever had! Only giving 4 starts because a couple of their apps and the dessert were just not good and the wait staff could have been a little more attentive but overall the experience was great and I will be back to try brunch on the weekends!! read more
Makers Union was a complete tastebud surprise! It was recommended by a colleague and I'm so glad I gave this restaurant a try. I ordered the highly suggested brussel sprouts and WOW, there's a hint of wasabi. I also ordered the cheddar cheese burger, outstanding! My colleagues ordered the salmon with quinoa and mushrooms. Lastly, I had a watermelon/strawberry refresher. What a light and delicious dining choice. If you're in Northern Virginia, Makers Union is a must. #GetTheBrusselSprouts #ThankMeLater read more

We come to Makers probably at least once a month because not only is the food innovative and delicious, but the employees and management are SO kind! We always feel so welcomed. They also run fun events like Miley Night and monthly drag brunch! We always recommend this spot to folks in Reston or people on their way to Dulles Airport, it's worth the stop! Their patio is dog friendly, and our pup is always treated like a little king here recommend their poke bowl, breakfast grain bowl, chicken & waffles, spinach artichoke dip, espresso martini (best in Reston! Made with Swing's Coffee), and any dessert! Makers Union is 10/10! read more
