This was a late night treat after a ballet that my friends and I went to. I love that they're open until midnight on Saturdays! We were able to reserve a last minute table for 6 at 10:30 pm. I had ordered their a mocktail, oysters, and steak Asian salad. 1. Oysters - 3/5 - I was looking forward to trying these oysters, but they were quite the disappointment. Some of the shells were in the oyster when I ate it. The oyster wasn't sandy but it seems like the shells chipped off. In addition, it left a rather bizarre bitter after taste that made the mocktail and steak salad unpleasant to eat. The actual oyster itself tasted delicious on the other hand minus the shells and bitter after taste. 2. Steak Asian Salad - 4/5. Well-seasoned. Perfectly cooked medium-rare steak. Nothing spectacular in terms of an Asian steak salad. I would order this again but I would probably prefer trying other items on the menu first. What's great about this place is that they have 5 mocktails that you could order and there was live music! Food: The bottomless is amazing you can pick 3 items from the apps and 3 items from the entrees. So the table gets 6 options to pick from but you can only get bottomless from the 6 options selected. My sister and I did a sweet and savory mixture. We loved and everything we got. Our favorite was the waffles and the Nashville hot chicken. The Nashville hot tenders are BOMB and flavorful. All the food was really good. I would also recommend the crispy Brussels sprouts and the French toast. Service: 5/5 again very attentive and quick Cleanliness: 3/5 our table was dirty but the waitress cleaned it up right away when we brought it up to her attention. What a lovely brunch experience! I decided on a Friday evening to make a reservation for the next day. I was able to easily and quickly make a reservation online. The restaurant is located in Reston, past Tyson's Corner. There are parking garages right by the restaurant (and limited street parking) and parking is free on the weekends. The restaurant was clean and all of the staff was really friendly. We opted for the the family style brunch. You get 3 starters and 3 entrées for $32 per person ($13.95 for kids under 10). There are 5 starters and 10 entrées to choose from. We chose the spinach and artichoke dip, Nashville hot chicken tenders, Brussel sprouts, chicken and waffles, chicken fried steak, and avocado toast. Oh my...the food is absolutely delicious! Everything was delicious, but here is what stood out: Brussel sprouts: Absolutely delicious! They were glazed in a honey sauce. I also tasted a bit of ginger. I always have major disappointment with the way restaurants make Brussels, so this gave me quite a bit of joy! Chicken and waffles: I loved that you get bone in chicken instead of boneless chicken, like most places. The waffle was a savory corn flavor, which was a perfect balance with the chicken and bourbon syrup. The honey butter that came on the waffles was also to die for! Chicken fried steak: The mashed potatoes that came with this dish were some of the creamiest I have tasted ever! Nashville Hot Chicken Tenders: Perfect balance of of heat. I had been wanting to try Makers Union since it opened. However, we gave up on trying to have it delivered. First, they were using unfamiliar delivery companies and we already had accounts with Doordash and Grub Hub. Then they kept tinkering with the menu so just when we thought they had that straightened out, they would tinker with it again. Finally, now that things have opened up in VA, we decided to have a meal there as we were there on a Saturday night. My husband insisted on making a reservation, which we did. However, it turned out to not be necessary. We chose to eat inside as the tables had wide spacing between them. All the staff members we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. Thus the 4 star rating. We felt that they were very attentive. I had my eye on the "tempura fried lobster tail" as I was curious about fried lobster. This entree comes with grilled broccolini and a loaded baked potato. The lobster is in the form of an 8 oz. lobster tail. My husband chose the "Maryland crab cake" which comes with charred jalapeno tartar, mustard slaw and fries. I had a drink called "zen garden". Right now, I can't remember every single ingredient in it but it did have pistachios and lemon, which made for an interesting mix as the flavorings blended together quite well. Plus I appreciated that it wasn't too strong. As for the lobster tail --- when an entree has "tempura fried" in the description, I expect to see a tempura-type coating---lightly battered and crunchy. The coating wasn't a tempura one at all. Still, the lobster tail turned out quite well, moist and tender. The coating didn't adhere to the lobster. Instead of drawn butter, there was an aioli that had a lemon flavor. It worked well with the lobster. The broccolini needed to be cooked a tad more as it wasn't quite tender crisp. The loaded baked potato was perfectly baked and tasty. My husband's crab cake was large. He said the way the crab was mixed with the filler used reminded him of tuna salad. That said, it did taste like crab. He also like the mustard slaw but the portion was stingy. The charred jalapeno tarter was very tame. The fries were properly prepared but he made an effort to not fill up on them. We both wished that they gave out some bread with their meals but it is what it is. The appetizers sounded good but we passed on them as we didn't want to feel too full. Be aware that is was a splurge of a meal --- in other words, not cheap. My friends and I came here for brunch on a Sunday after making some candles at PaddyWax across the street. We originally wanted to go to Ted's Bulletin, but the wait was 30 minutes so we decided to just go to Makers Union. We were placed at the high top tables with no wait. I got the Maryland Crab Cake Benedict with homefries on the side. I wish I was more impressed with my food but I wasn't. The crab cakes were good but nothing to write home about but the potatoes were good. However, some of their other items on their menu looked really good. I wish I got some of the appetizers instead, such as the scotch eggs (which looks delicious after looking at the different entrees from other yelpers). With that being said, our server was great. He came by often to refill our waters and check in on us and if we were enjoying our food. The decor inside the restaurant is also sophisticated and cute; a great place to catch up with friends or have a date night. I see that Makers Union has only been open for awhile so maybe they're still working out some kinks with their menu; I'd definitely come back and give them another shot. I went for St. Patrick's Day and it was a really fun environment! This was my second time here. They had special cocktails for the occasion and I had the Green Whiskey Lemonade. It was so good and quite refreshing! Food wise, I ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl. It was pretty tasty but there was too much onions in the dish. I wished it had less because it was a bit overbearing. I did eat around the onions and did enjoy it when I removed it on my own. During my previous visit I had the Makers Signature Mac & Cheese which I really liked! Can't go wrong with a nice cheesy mac. I didn't know what to order as I wanted to share my dish with my kids. She recommended the hickory smoked salmon and it was perfect. The salmon was moist, flaky, with a good seared crust. The quinoa, mushrooms, and green beans that came with that dish were soft, creamy, and filled with flavor. My one year old loved everything from that dish and everything was soft enough for him to enjoy. I also ordered the buttered pasta and mac & cheese from the kids menu and both my kids were crazy about them. The pastas for both were cooked well. My hubby ordered the prime rib French dip which I also tried and the meat was juicy and soft. To top off our meal, we had to order the candy cloud just from reading the description. We opted out of the flambé part because we wanted to share it with our kids. It was such a whimsical dessert. The cake was a bit too sweet for my taste. But the ice cream, strawberries, whipped cream, white chocolate, and let's not forgot the best part, the cotton candy, made us all so happy. Ordered thanksgiving dinner from them today. Thanksgiving meal came with a whole turkey, gravy, cranberry sauce, and two sides of choice. I added some sides so I ended up with garlic green beans, maple sweet potato, cornbread stuffing and Mac and cheese. Pick up was breeze, the city tend to block that street because of some thanksgiving event but the worker lady kept telling the police they need to open up the street for people to pick up the food. Honestly when I opened up the foil, turkey looked dry and not that cute (no decor around the sides, bare) and I was slightly worried. None of my family really looked excited to eat in general because of how it looked and also they don't like American thanksgiving food but after we cut open the turkey and started eating it albeit hesitantly, it was SO good. Turkey is not even a tiny bit dry, it is moist and full of flavor. We are currently all taking a nap because we ate wayyyy too much turkey and there was so much leftover. (The only part of the meal we had leftover) My family does NOT like American food in general but everyone DESTROYED the food, that's gotta tell you a LOT about how delicious it was. The sides were also impeccable and delicious. My mom raved about the garlic green beans- it was so crispy (perfectly cooked, aka not over cooked) and flavorful. We killllllled the sides. I wished I had added mashed potato bc I bet that also would have been bomb. I'd double up on the side next year. Someone in the back knows what they are doing because I am blown away by the food especially the turkey. It can't be easy cooking that many birds for pick up. (I saw lot of pick ups ready to go) I am sooo impressed that I will def visit for regular meals- I actually never tried this place until today, only chose it for thanksgiving bc they allowed day of pick up- not many places allow thanksgiving day pick up. They didn't have many dessert choices but if I knew the meal was gonna be this good, I would have added every possible option.
