She refused, stating, "We don't take your trash," delivering the line in an incredibly pompous tone and with a look of utter disdain--making me feel as though I were trash myself. Her performative gestures were as if she thought she was a Kardashian or a celebrity of sorts. Her behavior was completely undignified and entirely uncalled for. Ironically, I was at the window preparing to purchase a Starbucks coffee mug. Because I was so deeply offended and humiliated by her hostile attitude, I decided not to buy the mug and drove away empty-handed. Following this incident, I contacted corporate Starbucks customer service to file a formal complaint. The representative I spoke with explicitly confirmed that it is Starbucks policy to accept customer trash, and that this employee was absolutely wrong in her refusal and her behavior. As a customer, I expect a basic level of courtesy and respect, neither of which were shown to me. I wanted to bring this directly to the public's attention so that it can be known the actual policy of Starbucks and to ensure no other customer is treated this way.
