Sometimes you stumble upon a place purely by accident and it ends up being the best surprise. That was me after finishing an early appointment near by. I found this spot online and headed over and Im glad I did. From the moment I walked in I was greeted by the owners, husband and wife team who immediately made me feel welcome. They were eager to walk me through the menu, offered great suggestions, and were incredibly patient while my brain was still waking up at 9am lol. Their kindness and humor made me feel right at home. This place also feels homey. If you take a moment to look around, you'll notice the personal touches such as the artwork, photos, and thoughtful details that tell a story of their family. Okay Now to get to the good stuff the drinks and bites are stellar, here's what I got: I finally found a seriously addicting chai here in the 805. I'm very picky about chai, so when Robin insisted "you're trying this" so I listened and I'm so glad I did haha. Freshly brewed, no artificial flavors, perfectly spiced. I think I would dub this one of the BEST chai's I've ever had. 10/10. Their classic breakfast bites hit the spot too. I had a breakfast sandwich with crispy bacon and a fresh egg. Simple but good. I'd get this again but also would be open to trying some of their other bites. 8/10. The handmade bakery section here was unreal. The apple pastry I ordered was pure nostalgia and absolutely delicious. I can't wait to come back and try more of their daily baked goods. The selection was huge and lots of different options to try. I think their passionfruit pastry will be calling my name next time. Lastly I leave you with a Fun fact: if you're a football fan or into chess, this is your cafe. Chess tables are available for playing at and it's the perfect morning spot to catch matches over coffee and pastries. Fantastic experience for my first time visiting this bakery. I was stopping by today to grab a quick blueberry muffin to go and I noticed a gracious and inviting welcome when I walked in. I saw chess table's too and the overall feel was very professional. The business owner is very nice I ordered a muffin and it was delicious. I also played a few games of chess. This bakery in Thousand Oaks went out of the way to make sure my favorite cookies were available for me to pick up and enjoy!!! I absolutely love this bakery's Peanut Butter Cookies. In my opinion, they have set the bar on that and this is the standard I use for comparison. Pretty good coffee, really good food! Here's a picture of the savory sandwich we ordered and look at the size of that avocado! It's probably a little bit pricier, but it's good to see that they don't skimp out! Good ambiance inside too! Also, the owner talked me into ordering a Cubano instead of a Cortado and I think that was a very good move! Stayed the night for a concert and hit Historia Bakery Cafe for breakfast before heading back home. Everything about our visit was outstanding. We both had the Italian Croissant. Roasted tomatoes & pesto on a perfectly baked flaky croissant, topped with a poached egg. Fan-freakin'-tastic! Our mochas were hot creamy chocolatetly deliciousness. Super great owners. Great cute little spot for breakfast/ lunch! I came in with a friend and we really enjoyed the experience and service. I had the pretzel croissant sandwich and the bread was light and crispy and tasted great in a sandwich. I ordered the raspberry rose latte and I was unsure if I was going to enjoy it because of the raspberry flavor but I sure enough did. The latte was very much on the sweeter side but one of the workers was so sweet and asked if my drink was okay and if I needed to make any modifications and she helped make it to my taste. Cute little coffee shop!! I really liked the pastries, and the staff were very sweet and fun. New barista who was a bit inexperienced, so the matcha could definitely use some work. I asked what brand of matcha they used as I am a bit picky and was told "I don't know." The matcha powder was kind of just floating around in the milk and the ratio was very off. Iced tea had not enough ice. As a barista for 6 years, I can offer the way I make matcha at my cafe. I recommend doing only 4-6 grams of powder, and then equal parts cold or room temp water to make a paste first as this ensures the matcha fully dissolves before adding more water. Then add to the milk and pour over ice or put in cup and add steamed milk for hot. read more

This is a lovely little coffee shop with good drip coffee and yummy breakfast options (like avocado toast with egg and tomato, pastries, and sweets). What stood out most to me is the sense of community among patrons. In just under 30 mins, I watched four customers come in and check in with staff, filling them in on their lives or asking for support with a personal issue. Having grown up in Thousand Oaks and only occasionally coming back to visit, it's heartwarming to find a warm and welcoming independent coffee shop like Historia Bakery. When in this morning for an expresso over ice with oatmilk. No greeting , no service with a smile. The male individual that took my order was expressionless and cold. I specifically asked if my drink was going to come in a large cup, he replied "yes". Came over and said here you go, was totally unexpressionless/cold. My drink did not come in a large cup instead came in a small/medium cup with very little ice and very little oatmilk. With 3 shots of expresso a larger cup is going to be required, not to mention ICE when expresso is hot. My drink looked like the Yoohoo kids drink and was very warm. Lame employees. We discovered HBC on a whim a while back and have frequented it since. I love their half sweet van latte and occasionally get one of their pastries. The only downside is consistency, when the owner lady is there (I think she's the owner), the latte she makes is special and delicious. But if it's the younger girl, it's not consistent at all and she has a very heavy hand with the syrup. I like their house made toffee candy thing with the almonds (forgot what it was called) when they have it and also enjoyed their raspberry cake bar. In my recent quest for non-corporate coffee, I decided to check out Historia on the suggestion of a friend. I brought a girlfriend along with me, and we were greeted by the owners, a husband and wife team. We asked for suggestions and they made recommendations based on our likes. I had a hot dirty chai and my friend had a white chocolate mocha. I also had a chocolate croissant and at the owners recommendation, got a slice of the ricotta pound cake to go to take home to my husband. We sat outside under the shelter as it was raining. The owners came out to check on us periodically and were incredibly friendly and kind. Everything was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The place no longer carries bread, least, I didn't see any, and the attendant was vague about when, and if any bread would get delivered. Carlos will always greet you with a smile, while making an avocado toast and there are usually some folks hanging out playing chess - yes, Carlos is a chess master, so he has many chess tables, there are also some cute decorative items for sale. The few times that I've been here, I received my goodies within 5-10 minutes. Thus far, I have tried the following... 1. Coffee Crepe Cake (5/5) Super light and chocolatey. The layers of the crepe were fun to slice through with the fork. I intended to eat half only, but it was so good and light, that I ate the whole slice in 1 sitting. 2. Almond Croissant (4.5/5) The croissant was airy and not too dry. The almond and powdered sugar gave it a cooling, refreshing taste. I recommend asking them to warm it up, which I didn't do, so it was slightly more firm than soft 3. Cinnamon crackers (5/5) These are bread/dough scraps that instead of going to waste, are turned into a light and crunchy cinnamon snack. It's not good if you're diabetic or trying to lose weight, but it's a great treat if you have good self-discipline to not overeat. 4. Pretzel Croissant (5/5) OMGee, soo addicting. It has the texture and bitterness of a pretzel, but the softness and butteriness of a croissant. What a brilliant combo. Make sure to get it warmed - this is worth the calories. I have not tried their drinks (which they have a great variety of flavors) because a lot of them are made from artificial flavor syrups, which is just not for me. They allow people to come in with their dogs which I didn't care for because the place is already very small to entertain large dogs. Ventura has nothing on Thousand Oaks when it comes to cappuccino. I've been to three coffee shops and two of them handed me if not THE best cappuccino I've ever had, top 3 for sure. This was a classic flat white. Just like having coffee in Italy. Kind of coffee that will put hair on your teeth. So good. The lemon bar...I only wish I had another....maybe two more. My Amiga and I had just driven down from a festival and needed a kick of caffeine before we headed to the Oaks Mall for some shopping. I had heard of the place many times but hadn't a chance to make it over here. I asked the barista what he'd rec and he was so kind/patient. I thanked him for taking the time to explain my different options. He recommended The Cubano and Yes sir it had that kick that I needed with no joke. Straight to the point as he had said! Croissants were decent, the iced blueberry lavender latte was one of the worst things I've ever tasted, I'm sorry it had chunks of something and tasted like gasoline. Last time I got a slice of the coffee crepe cake. It was okay. This time I tried a slice of the strawberry vanilla crepe cake. Not very tasty. Aesthetically pleasing but a little medicinal and underwhelming. I also ordered a lemon raspberry muffin that was very nice. All of the items look good, but I don't know about the flavor ‍. The people behind the counter were very nice and thorough. It's just a bit overpriced for what is served. It's also on the cusp of being a little too dark inside for me. I haven't tried their coffee, the pastries are okay. I'm not a fan of the crepe cakes(which is unfortunate because they look so good). I heard someone say they like the Asiago bread. I think it might be good for some things. Some people may like it and others won't. Definite hit or miss. If it wasn't so expensive it might be okay. The cake was a bit of a bummer.
