Cute French bake shop with cute vibes! Came in to pick up a few baked goods to bring to a work meeting. My favorite out of all of them was the almond croissant by far. Oh boy, this place is trouble. I can't stop by here without indulging in all the deliciousness. First time I visited was in January 2024. Place was packed, came back a couple more times July 2025, still super long lines on the weekends, during the week, not so bad. It looks like they won the "2025 Best Croissant S.F." award. Maison Benoit has been in my Yelp bookmark for a long time. I finally got to visit on a weekday morning. Parking was easy given it was mid morning and on a weekday. However, there were only 2 to 3 spots left on the streets. Service was very good: it took me quite some time to order, as I was looking around and deciding. The lady was very very patient with me and waited for me. There was no line after me too. Ordered the Flan, Pain au chocolat, few Croissants, and the Éclair Chocolat. Had to do it. Tried the croissant and chocolate croissant based on all the recent reviews. Went on a weekday after lunch and there was no line and no crowd. Also meant the croissants weren't super fresh out of the oven, but the barista suggested I just reheat at a low temp back at home. Buttery goodness! Received our food in the best quality and shape faster than usual. Nearly a decade of tasting new foods , assured me that the quality matters in every aspect of food representing. The salmon bite that I had, consists of a piece of long baguette , cream cheese and shredded assorted greens. Naturally I am a fish lover , so interestingly this bite was above my expectations due to high level of freshness and quality. The other order was feta Spanish quash which was deliberately delicious and extraordinary in some senses. The breads are consistently amazing, 4 stars. Less impressive is the overall experience. Loud music, blowing fans and noisy patrons make shouting over the counter to the teen wait staff an exercise in frustration. On two visits items were missed or incorrectly handled. And the staff doesn't make it any easier by failing to explain anything or recap order details to check for errors. For your benefit I suggest two things, 1) tell them the number of things your going to order up front (our person ran away after each item dramatically slowing the order, making it harder to confirm the order was complete, and wasting a lot of time) and 2) ask them to recap the full order at checkout. Annoying for sure but the baked goods are very good. read more

Finally got a chance to try this place. I had recently had Brunch nearby, but needed something sweet and maybe a coffee. It still had a line at 12:30 but it was a Sunday afternoon. I kept hearing groans from customers in line that they had already ran out of Baguettes. I kept it simple and ordered a Pain Suisse and a Milk and bitter pastry. I had also ordered a Curtado. It was a short wait because they were a lot of workers and they friendly and helpful. Pastry and Curtado were delish. Most definitely gonna come back and try more pastries and Breads. I especially thought the $12 breakfast platter (half baguette, croissant, pan au chocolat, jams, butter) was a fantastic deal. The wait was at least 20 minutes on a sunny Sunday mid-morning. Maison Benoit is hands down one of my favorite spots for pastries and coffee absolutely worth the wait, even if it means standing in line for an hour. Their quality never disappoints. The croissants are buttery perfection, and the coffee is always smooth and flavorful. My husband is obsessed with their croque, and I personally love their quiche so rich and satisfying. I had both spinach, feta & salmon. Both were amazing. That said, during our most recent visit, I was a bit let down by the avocado toast. The bread was unfortunately burned, and for the price, I expected something a little more thoughtful. Honestly, I feel like I could've made a better version at home. Maybe adding a poached or soft-boiled egg on top would elevate it, or just a little more attention to the toast itself. Today was my first visit at the bakery. I've been on the hunt for a good croissant. It's fairly difficult to find a good one! I think I went overboard but I wasn't feeling well so I ordered a bunch of things to take home. But I've had my eye on this place for awhile! Lets review some of the items: Croissants - Delicious! Croissant making is such an art to appreciate! I loved it! It was soo good. My question for this place is o you make croissants with very high lamination (the super thin layered exterior like)? Tuscan Soup with Garlic Bread - My this was the one that gave me the biggest surprise. It was delicious. My boyfriend absolutely dislikes soup. And this made him a believer! The garlic bread was so delightful to bite into very generous on the portion of the bread! Baguette Tradition - I have yet to try it, but I will tomorrow. I would love it if they sold Pate! I know this is going to be a real treat. Pain Au Chocolat - I warmed this up at home and it was so good :) Orange Juice - Typical orange juice it was a bit tart for me. Ice Tea Citrus Green - Very fancy tea! I would have enjoyed this more with a bit of vanilla pump but they seem to forgot about that. I definitely like this place, and will plan to come back often. It's very difficult to find an authentic French bakery. Theres only a few that I like such as Moulin in Newport Beach, L'experience Paris in Bellevue, Washington. BAY AREA BAKERY I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR I've been to different bakeries where some were good and others ok. I heard so much about Maison Benoit. One thing that intrigued me on going here was the owner/ baker is from France. Also another reason going to Maison Benoit was there are several bakers from France The first time I came here was the day before Presidents' Day. The line was really long. I wanted to eat here, but I was worried I would not get a seat. Because of the long line along with the hype of this eatery I wasn't sure If I would come back here again so I ordered a lot of items for myself. I ordered the croissant, almond chocolate croissant, salmon tartine and Parisian sandwich, which was the only take-out order. For coffee I ordered honey bear latte. Fish can be pricey however the portion of the salmon on the salmon tartine wasn't skimpy. I'll say this the smoked salmon tartine at Maison Benoit is better than any bagel and lox I ever had. The salmon melted like butter. Sometimes bagels can be dense, but the bread on the tartine was light yet crunchy. My second favorite item is the almond chocolate croissant. I've ordered an almond croissant or a chocolate croissant but never an almond chocolate croissant. At the Maison Benoit the almond chocolate croissant is tastier than any standalone almond croissant or chocolate croissant I've eaten. The combination of almond and chocolate provided a rich flavor. In addition that crust was crispy. The regular croissant was ok as it did have that flaky crusty with the buttery dough. What I love about the Parisian sandwich is the baguette, which was crunchy yet not hard. For beverage I ordered the honey bear latte was that was one of the special drinks of the day. I knew after my first visit I had to come to Maison Benoit again. The following Saturday I came back to Maison Benoit again. When I came here the first time I noticed the item Breakfast Board, which consists of croissant, baguette, pain au chocolate. After learning my lesson the first time of ordering too many items I ordered the Breakfast Board. The other item I ordered was the pain suisse. The baguette was crunchy on the outside yet soft inside. These two features consist of a proper baguette as too often the crust outside is too hard. The pain au chocolate as with the croissant was ok. The pain suisse stood out as this could be the best chocolate croissant I ever had. Instead of melted chocolate there are chocolate chips. Also the crust was flaky and crispy. For coffee I ordered the brown sugar latte. I was planning to come to Maison Benoit during St. Patrick's Day weekend as I saw a photo of a St. Patrick's-theme croissant, but I came back here the following weekend. I came here because of the eclair. Instead of the usual chocolate eclair I ordered the eclair cafe. Other items I ordered were the croque monsieur, which is a toasted ham and cheese sandwich, and chausson aux pommes, which is a French pastry filled with applesauce. From appearance the eclair cafe looks similar to a maple bar donut. When I took a bit of the eclair cafe it was better than any maple bar donut I ever ate. Besides the custard filling the icing on the eclair cafe was smoother than any maple icing I had on a donut. For the chausson aux pommes I liked how the crust was soft not flaky in order to hold the weight of the applesauce, which had slices of apple. The croque monsier was a perfect way to end a weekend brunch as the cheesy texture and savory ham made this dish filling. Nothing everything I ate at Maison Benoit was great, but every visit has either met or exceeded my expectations. After three visits to Maison Benoit I'm a huge fun of this bakery. I can't wait to come back again to try an item that surprises me. read more

I know the owner responded with specifications, but my large latte was so milky. The apple turnover was fine. The chocolate/almond croissant was also fine. But clearly these pastries are not my cup of... coffee. Oh and to the owner who felt the need to lecture me about what a canele is supposed to be like - yes, the outside is supposed to be caramelized, where-as what I had last time was burnt and tough. I guess my expectations were just too high. My friends would always tell me about Maison Benoit and I finally joined them for breakfast. The au pain chocolate I ordered was the best pastry I have ever had but that's about it. We ordered coffees and matcha and all of them were just terrible. Matcha was pretty much just milk with faint taste of the green tea. My friend's latte seemed to just be some drip coffee with a lot of milk. Also, we waited forever for his breakfast. We had to ask three times for it and almost left before he got it. They said that was the first time they had bad experience there but unfortunately that was my first time there. We got Maison Benoit again! Last time I had a weird experience with the barista after the owner was kind to comment I was back to try it again within a week. This time I picked up (had it delivered). It was amazing and so fresh. We got 3 kouign amann, one half loaf country bread, 2 pain au chocolate, and a suisse croissant (a super crunchy dome shaped croissant with chocolate filling). Of course picking up / to go doesn't do the beautiful store, and the beautiful seating justice, we were pleasantly surprised by how fresh everything was and how good it tasted. The kouign amann was perfectly crunchy, caramelized, balanced (in terms of sweetness). We split the three among a brunch party. People loved it. Then the Pain Au Chocolat was a good breakfast the next day. And suisse croissant was consumed immediately. We put all kinds of fresh ingredients and fig jam on the country bread slices (you can ordered it presliced) and it worked beautifully. I am glad the bakery was nice enough to comment on my previous reviews - it would be sad to miss out on a such a good place based on one soured interaction. read more

Cute little cafe in the heart of Danville. I was looking forward to trying it out based on seeing the line out the door. Unfortunately I was disappointed from the get go. It was incredibly chaotic upon reaching the front of the line, where there are no instructions for ordering and the first employee I interacted with said nothing about how it works, so here it goes for planning a visit. The first employee covers items in the first counter section, the second covers the second and so on. I felt rushed and the employees had a difficult time answering what I considered basic questions. At the end of the line, the cashier verified the order and I paid. My friend and I were handed a number and told our order would be out shortly. Half the order showed up and after about 20-30 minutes I finally went back in to ask where my sandwich was and they had forgotten it completely. The guy I ordered from remembered me ordering it, but the cashier didn't charge me and it was never put in. My bad for not double checking, but our order amount didn't seem off so I wasn't alerted. Anyhoo, they rang me right up and the sandwich came out pretty quickly after that, so I'll give them kudos for the quick correction. I found the atmosphere to be too crowded and disorganized for my liking. Not sure if I'd return. The food was ok, nothing memorable. Staff is nice, but could be more helpful explaining the drill when you get to the counter. Number of menu items is limited. Be sure to check it before going if you're in the mood for something in particular. We showed up for lunch around 11:30 and they were already out of items. On one visit, I asked to have my bread sliced and the employee simply dumped it into a shopping bag. No bread bag or anything. Today, I asked to have my bread sliced a certain way, and the employee handling the drinks, after touching multiple surfaces in the coffee prep area, started showing other staff how to slice it and then proceeded to touch my bread with her bare hands. I was shocked but stayed quiet and took the bread anyway. Another issue is how the bread is stored. They line pastries up on an open shelf and employees talk right over it with customers. It feels so unsanitary, especially since anyone could easily spitting over the pastries. Experiences like this make it clear that staff aren't being properly trained in basic food safety. read more

The pastries were light and melt in your mouth delicious- everything you would hope and dream of for a French pastry. I ordered a latte and did not expect such a strong (and deliciously well made!) cup- if the line wasn't so long, I would return just for the coffee! Came here on account of instagram and was excited to try Maison Benoit since we do not have that many French bakeries here in the East Bay. Disappointed with the staff (mostly teenagers) and is apparent they need training beyond customer service. After reading other reviews on Yelp, others share my sentiment as well. It's not that they were intentionally rude (which they were by the way) they just look miserable working here and therefore couldn't give two flying *you-know-whats* about us paying customers. It's unfortunate because it tainted my experience to a point where I didn't want to return before even tasting the food. One staff member (pictured) was the outlier though, he responded to my questions with a positive attitude and clearly communicated over the counter so 1 star added for him. Now onto the food, it definitely has potential to be up there with the heavy hitters one day with a few tweaks here and there. We ordered the breakfast board which comes with a croissant, a pain au chocolat and a baguette served with a side of jam, honey & butter. The baguette was my favorite and it paired beautifully with the honey & butter. The croissants were flaky but needed more substance, perhaps a bit more butter and needed more layers. Good enough for the east bay but still needs work to be on the caliber of Arsicault. A message to the teenage staff: No matter where you work, please try your best. Love-Love-Love this place. It's the Tri--Valley's own French bakery we can call our own. I love the blue decor and the gold plated flatware - tres chic! Sandwiches are generously large. The iced coffee was a great balance. I don't think you can meet a dessert you didn't like. My favorite is the Mille Feuille: not too sweet, flaky, messy and creamy. I found it easier to eat later by layer. It's become my special treat if I'm in the area. UPDATE 8/23/24: My recent visit today was for a savory treat.
