New City Moving used to be my favorite out of them all in Chicago, but since they were bought out by New Sons, everything is going down the tubes. My recent move job went as follows. Movers showed up 25 minutes late on move day, had the audacity to ask for a tip, over-rode my instruction as to arrival time at the new location and approached the front desk to start unloading before my arrival, after I told them we had the elevator booked at a certain time. Apparently they had a full move after mine, which is something the "old " New City never did, so they were in a rush. I was willing to let all that slide until the next day I noticed that they drilled too far in to my clients dining table while assembling it and cracked the top of it in four areas. Funny how the lead Juan made sure to point out any items while packing that were previously damaged, or scratches on the floor of the new unit when we entered, but neglected to inform me that he busted my clients table right before he left for his next job. oh and for the record, I had tips for each team member on both pack and move day. point is, no one in service should ask for a tip. it's tacky. This company had turned in to a disappointment.,

1 Star -- Loyalty Apparently Comes With a Penalty…read more I am absolutely disgusted by the way Safeguard Self Storage treats long-term customers. I started renting my unit in September 2020 for $110 per month. Nearly six years later, after NEVER missing or being late on a payment, I received a letter casually informing me that my monthly charge is increasing to $657. Let that sink in. $657 a month for the SAME unit, on the SAME floor, with ZERO improvements, ZERO upgrades, and absolutely nothing different to justify this outrageous increase. Then comes the real slap in the face. This letter talks about how rent increases are only made "when absolutely necessary" and after "serious consideration" of customers facing economic hardship. Yet when I went online to price the EXACT SAME UNIT, I was quoted an introductory rate of $150 and a standard rate of only $319 after the promotion. So new customers pay $319... while loyal customers with perfect payment history are expected to pay $657? That's a $388 difference for literally the same space. This isn't "customer appreciation." It isn't "serious consideration." It feels like exploiting loyal renters because you assume moving out is too inconvenient. And the cherry on top? The letter warns about late fees and thanks me for my "continued patronage" -- as if I should feel grateful for being charged more than DOUBLE the advertised standard rate after years of on-time payments. Businesses love to talk about loyalty until it affects their profits. If you rent here, watch your rates closely. Apparently staying loyal just makes you a target for endless increases.

They took into consideration my availability, and a crew of four people arrived on time. The guys handled all of the heavy furniture with precaution(they disassembled and wrapped all of the details), boxed the kitchen supplies, clothes, a few electronic devices, and even asked me if I have items that need special care. The process took around 10-11 hours, and this was the estimated time they gave me. I appreciate this part as I wasn't flexible with my time, and it had to be a quick move out process. Not to mention that the guys had to go up and down the stairs with all of my belongings. Communication with these guys was on top as they asked me a few questions and gave me updates on the process length and how it would be handled--worth the price and quality of the job. I big shout-out to them! I would definitely use them again in my next move.

Normally I would move myself but I'm no spring chicken anymore lol so my wife and I began searching online. At first glance every moving company looked the same and we were overwhelmed with the options. However, we learned very quickly that not all moving companies are the same after calling around. What really drew us in was the quote/initial call to Extra Mile Movers. We requested a quote online and they were very quick to reply and literally answer the 1000 questions my wife and I had. They made the whole process feel simple and hassle free. We decided to go with Extra Mile and to say the least I'm more than a happy camper. They were very professional, courteous and gave my wife and I the chance to wind down and know everything was going to be okay in the midst of the craziness. They took very good care of our belongings, had impeccable wrapping skills that I've never even seen before, and just made the day more pleasurable. The team that showed was so good and they genuinely made us feel like they cared about our belongings. I would recommend these guys to everyone I know both friend and family. There impeccable skills speak for themselves and their customer service was amazing. They were with me every step of the way and there was no surprises. I truly feel they went the extra mile and as a result have gained a lifetime customer!!

They didn't give an actual bill and only cited "materials" as the reason for the price change even though I had everything packed in boxes and I even physically helped them get things in to and out of the truck. They also charge a service fee just to be able to pay them. The 2 guys who showed up and moved my stuff we're nice enough but I absolutely would NOT recommend hiring this company.

AVOID AT ALL COST! I…read moredo not recommend you deal with them. I unfortunately used this company when moving items from my storage unit to my house garage. When going through the inventory in order to book the move, I repeatedly informed the agent on the phone, Amy, that I had about 20 boxes (already packed from a previous move) and some kitchen chairs, and a Refrigerator--I repeated numerous times that the largest item was a refrigerator--. From the storage unit to my house is a 20 minute drive. The entire job took no less than 3 hours. They initially quoted me about $427 (estimate). I agreed to the estimate and signed because it seemed reasonable for the amount of work required. The day of the move, the movers show up and as soon as I open the storage door, one of the movers looks at me and says: "they did tell you about the $150 refrigerator handling fee right?" I responded no, and told him that I repeatedly told the agent Amy on the phone during the quote that the reason why I'm hiring a moving company was because I couldn't move the refrigerator myself... and she acknowledged and listed the refrigerator in the estimate. Never did she mention on the phone anything about a surcharge for the handling of the refrigerator. If I had sent them away because of my refusal to pay the surprise charge that was not in the initial quote, they would have kept my $250 "non-refundable" security deposit. This is a clear situation of deceptive practices by failing to disclose hidden fees or charges. So, having no other option, I told them to proceed with the move in the hopes that I could later fight it with the office. When we got home to unload the truck, they would not unload unless they took full payment, which included the $150. They charged $50 to wrap chairs with Nylon wrap. I called their dispatch manager and we went back and forth about the charge, and he said they would not unload unless I pay upfront. They also added another $84.5 for (half an hour's worth of work) for the time we spent arguing over the charge. So basically, they grab you by the neck and when you try to argue the charges, they threaten to kidnap your stuff and take it to their warehouse if you don't pay. Also, they keep charging you for the time you argue with them on the phone. They ended up charging me $896.48. Shame on them.
