We went to Maikham for dinner and found the service disorganized and chaotic, but friendly. We were motioned to a table that had a reserved card, but we hadn't made reservations. The staff then reorganized the entire restaurant to accommodate a table for five. We sat for about ten minutes before we ordered and we had to remind the staff about our drinks. Wait staff then asked if we wanted our food in courses, but we decide we'd make it easy for everyone and we took it as it was ready, including appetizer. It was all worth it, because the food was the best Thai food I have had in Bellingham and the best I've had since I was at Pok Pok in Portland. We found this restaurant on our first day in Bellingham, WA and had Phad Kimaow (Drunken noodles with spicy basil). We went back the next 2 nights and ordered the same item. Disorganized, overwhelmed, slow and inaccurate. We arrived at 630 on June 28 to a nearly empty restaurant. Order taken at 645. Green tea, appetizer and two entrees. We had to leave before 745 to catch a boat.... 715... Really? We had to ask for our tea and appetizer. The restaurant was starting to get busy and phone orders were coming in. Food was coming out of the kitchen... But customers who arrived later than us were being served. 730 we asked to have our order converted to go. Waiter brought the check, I paid. But still no food. 740 we really need to leave still no food! Other people who arrived later were even wrapping up their meals! We asked again for our food.. Waiter thought we had already received it! We said No!!!! My friend waited for something to be packed up for us. I headed over to the boat in hopes we could slightly delay departure but also because I am new to the area and might need more time. Friend arrived at the pier with minutes to spare. We opened our meals... Both orders were completely WRONG! We had both asked for noodle dishes but got a huge heap of cold sticky rice. My entree was ok, a bit cold, not what I hoped for, 6 shrimp and some lovely vegetables in an overly mild sauce.. Very disappointed for more than $60, we had two cups of green tea from tea bags, 1 delicious spring roll and two cold entrees, not prepared as asked. The kitchen seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. I suspect our order was lost or not placed properly or their system for order processing is just too haphazard. Very sad because I wanted to really like this place, the people who run it, and their food. But I cannot and I do feel cheated and underwhelmed even in the difficult circumstances.. our time crunch collided with their disorganization. read more

I had the Duck curry - and can't wait to go back!! The chef is amazing, the staff is friendly endlessly and attentive. Not a large place, and the night we were there a large birthday party was in front of us, so our food was slow getting to us. It was worth the wait!!!! Such fresh and tasty food! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Maikham. We started with a Fresh Roll appetizer, followed by Gaang Khiaw Wan (a green curry with chicken, veggies, herbs and fresh basil), and Phlaa Koong (a shrimp salad spiced with lemon grass, mint, chili in oil, and sea salt). We were trying to find thai food a little later than we should have in Bellingham, as the rugs seem to roll up around 9pm in many restaurants. We settled on Maikham, which I'd describe as a little short on atmosphere. We opted for the patio, which means sitting outside the restaurant in its sparely occupied new development, listening to and watching traffic go by. With no real no-caffeine, no-alcohol options for Ms. D. to drink, we decided to get appetizers to stay and our entrees to go, packing them up for the 20-minute ride back to the condo. The appetizers were too pricy ($9 for the Som Tum, $10 for a "fresh roll") and seemed weak on ingredients; described as a papaya salad, we had trouble finding any papaya flavors in the Som Tum; the fresh roll was almost a salad wrap in rice paper--really heavy on the greens; not much in the way of a "spicy tofu" experience I was hoping for. Veggie entries, at $14, were at the high end as well; with had Phad Kimoaw, which was tasty but just a touch dry for a dish described as drunken noodles; the Khao Phad Num Prik Phao; a fried rice dish, was probably the best of all we had, but not enough to draw us back in without trying some other options in town. read more

We sat outside for a late lunch, the day after Thanksgiving, on a cool yet sunny day, in the sun on their porch, as we were with a little dog, but it wasn't too cold and the deck enjoys a nice view of Fairhaven. Stopped here for lunch and had a great meal. They are located in the bottom floor of the Orca Building. Parking is on the street at the side of the building. The interior is attractively decorated in dark tones. We were promptly greeted by the waitress and provided with menus and water. The menu is a single large page, and if you are unfamiliar with the specific dishes just a bit intimidating. The dishes are well described, but some knowledge is helpful in choosing. We found the waitress very helpful in making felicitous choices. We found that an order of the fried spring rolls and an order of the chicken and avocado curry made a good sized lunch for two. The chicken and avocado curry is described as a two on a scale of five heat so I added a bit of their offered hot sauce to prep it up just a bit. The disk was flavorful and balanced with a very tender bone-in chicken thigh. Most of the dishes are $12 - $14 which as noted serve two for lunch. A good place to which we will return. read more

The foods were not authentic at all. The boat noodle was not even close. The drunken noodle was off as well. The duck noodle and fried rice were okay. The customer service was not impressive. We ordered duck curry but ended up getting duck noodle. We kept it anyways and ordered the duck curry, but it never came when we were done. The services was slow. Bellingham's newest Thai restaurant has found a little corner to call home in the New Orca building, and provided a great place for fresh cuisine. My partner ordered Boat Noodle soup (11.99) which he found to be fresh with delicious broth and crisp veggies. He asked for a side of spicy sauce to give it more of a kick. I ordered the Lao Special (14.99) of papaya salad, grilled chicken and sticky rice. My few pieces of chicken were tender, and salad was sweet yet sour and fresh as well. We didn't think we would be lucky enough to find a Thai restaurant here in BHam. We were surprised to discover Mai Kham, after reading about it in Whatcom Talk. The food was delicious. Just not very good. Chicken satay has no noticeable marinade, it's just chicken grilled on a stick. Pad Thai was super sweet, no spice, no egg or tofu, no bean sprouts, wider rice noodles than expected, mostly unrecognizable as Pad Thai. All soft tofu even though I requested fried. Fried rice was OK and so was the shrimp Phad Krapao but again no spice even though I requested spicy and could not taste the basil or chili. Veggies were fresh and crisp so that was good but would not order here again, wish I had kept my 100 bucks. read more
