The service was great, the ambiance was Nice and cozy, on the other hand the food was just okay. The Mongolian beef was okay, beef was tender, Pad Ta Lay the squid was chewy and tough to chew. The chicken satay was tender and big and same with the Golden prawn. Overall the food was just okay. Was disappointed they didn't have Sushi, I should have checked thou before we went here. I would definitely go back for the appetizers and to try the their sushi but not the main dishes.

I feel as though I need to update my review. I've come back a number of times and the consistency - I feel as though has improved... their overall quality of their food has just been elevated... It is one of my go to places now for lunch for sure.

I have been pretty desperate in my search for a good Thai food place since I moved here last year. I felt really spoiled in PDX with all the amazing choices and I've tried three or four places here and honestly I've disliked every single one...until this one. I always get the same thing, drunken noodles. Or in this restaurant's case #32 it was absolutely delicious. It had the perfect amount of heat and a hefty amount of chicken. I suppose my only complaint is the tomato, it's so large. I had half a tomato in there and that seems excessive. (Like a tomato cut in half, I don't mind smaller pieces) Service could be better but I also work in the industry so I understand on a weekend that it's unpredictable.

A great menu with gluten free options. Service was great and the food arrived quickly and was delicious.

We came into the restaurant and the host was not polite at all, she sat us in a super dirty table and just said "sorry for the mess" when I say it was dirty it was super dirty. I work in the restaurant business and no way I will sit costumers in a table like that. Terrible job at keeping cleaning this place

To my taste Asian 1 is one of the best Asian restaurants in Bellingham. It doesn't look that promising when you walk in-- sort of half bar and half restaurant. But the food is excellent. I like the fact that they offer some low calorie dishes, with the calories actually on the menu. We've been here quite a few times, usually ordering the Panang Curry, which is excellent. We've also tried the Mongolian Beef and the Cashew Nuts Delight with Tofu and Vegetables. They were both very good, except we thought the Mongolian Beef could have been spicier (more on that later). Another really good dish is the Swimming Rama with Tofu, which features very fresh spinach and a ton of tofu with an excellent peanut sauce. We've twice had the chicken and crab fried rice which featured very tender chicken but the last time we had it the crab tasted like it was canned. Overall, we are quite happy with this restaurant. Dragon River serves up very good and authentic Chinese food, Busara is great for Thai food, and there are a number of newer Asian places in town that are competing for the top spot. Asian 1 is definitely in the running. A word on spiciness. When we mentioned that our Mongolian Beef, ordered 4/4 on the spice-o-meter, was not all that hot, she explained what's going on. 4/4 really means 4/10, but they won't tell you that unless you specifically ask (we're supposed to be mind readers, I guess). If you order any level greater than 4, they start adding Thai peppers. Also, you can ask for a spice rack to season it yourself. This changes everything for us. They gave us a sample of the Thai peppers which we added to the leftover fried rice and had for breakfast the next day. Wow, it was a lot hotter, and much better to our taste.

Great spot. If the menu says top seller believe it. The Mongolian beef was the best we have had in over 5 years. The spice was not over the top. We had a 3 which usually is the top of my tolerance and I had no problems here. Pad Thai was also tasty. Fresh crisp veggies and good quality food. Staff was also very accommodating and courteous. Clean restaurant with easy ambiance.

If you are Asian, they will tuck you all the way in the back even when there are empty tables by the front. Food wasn't even that good.

Happy hour sake and sushi. The rolls have real crab. The peanut sauce salad is always delicious.

And it helped that it was within walking distance. Upon walking in, the staff let us pick an empty table. The place is rather typical looking for a family-run Japanese restaurant. It was clean, which is the most important thing for these quick lunch stops. - Takoyaki: OK. Good size, covered in bonito flakes. It was quite well presented and tasted fine. My only complaint was that it was close to lukewarm not hot, so it didn't seem freshly made. The greens seemed unnecessary. - Vegetable Tempura: OK. Nothing special. A good tempura batter is very light and airy, but this one was a bit bready. - Shoyu Ramen: OK. Good size, and flavors where there. The pork was the thickest piece I've ever had in a ramen bowl, but very tender, so no real complaints. - Chicken Teriyaki Rice: Not recommended. Chicken was tender enough, but I prefer chicken with skin. Plate was drowning in sauce. Edible, but not enjoyable. Service was simple and nice enough. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Overall, we were satisfied. The food here caters to what locals want and expect, and they generally do a fine job with it. If I was hungry and was in the area, I would certainly consider it.

When they opened many years ago, there was a lot of well-deserved local buzz. From stunning decor to one of the longest sushi conveyor belts I've ever seen, it was worth a visit just for the visuals. But the food and service were inconsistent, and I ended up never going back after my first few tries. Fast forward to the other night, my daughter and I did a mini "sushi hop" and ended up here. I have to say, I was pretty darn impressed! The conveyor belt was still just as long, and the ginormous sculpture (imported from Thailand IIRC) was still looming over the place. But they seem to have settled into their groove after so many years in business here in the Ham. We enjoyed a variety of options from the belt, including a few tasty rolls, as well as some nigiri ordered off the menu. Everything was fresh, hearty, and delish. I thought the prices weren't too bad, either. I will definitely look forward to visiting here again next time I'm having a sushi craving. I do want to say something about the service, as I noticed some recent reviews have mentioned problems in this area. On our visit, our server was very responsive and the special menu items we ordered came out quickly. So, at least on this particular night, there were no issues for us. Hopefully they're working on this!
