A very standard and serviceable Thai restaurant. I chose them because I was staying at a motel across the street. A had a special. (Sorry. I forgot the name.) Garlic, broccoli and beef over rice. You used to get large portions filling the Styrofoam or paper container, but they have reduced the amount of food they put in them. That's a lot of money for rice and noodles. I would have to say that I won't be dining there any longer. The food itself was OK. I had the basil fried rice, which was a little greasy, but it was just average. I'm not sure what happened, but the prices went up. The portions went down and the quality of food I would say was down. read more

I'm not sure if it's the cool weather or some kind of hormonal imbalance, but I've found myself craving Thai food lately. Thank goodness On Rice is located practically across the street from my office! I can order ahead, hop on over for take-out, and within minutes be sitting at my desk with a delicious lunch ready to devour. My favorite on their lunch specials is the red curry with chicken. It's served with a heaping side o' jasmine rice and some pad thai. Plus it comes with soup! For around $10 this is a steal of a deal. The portion is huge and I often have enough left over for dinner. And most importantly, the food is tasty. The curry is house-made, with plenty of tender chicken plus freshly cooked veggies. I like it with 4 stars of spice. I find their star level runs a little lower here than other Thai joints in town. So if you usually order 3 stars you might want to bump it up a level here. The pad Thai is solid, too. I like that the noodles are super soft and absorb most of the saucy goodness essential to a good PT. The lunch special includes a meatless pad Thai, but (obviously) if you order from the main menu you can get any number of protein options with it. And let's not forget the soup. It's a simple, clear broth with vegetables. I usually save mine for a mid-late-early afternoon snack for when life at the office is dragging. read more

First time here, had my order to go, wasnt sure what to expect. From what I could tell of the inside, it looked clean and spacious. Because I only got my order to go, I can only speak on my customer service experience and food quality. My friend and I were greeted right away, and they took our order. I ordered Gyoza, Fresh Rolls and Pad Se Ew w/ chicken. We did not have to wait a long time to get our food and it was fresh. The Pad Se Ew was very good, there was a good amount of flavor, but low on the spice (I got a 3/5). If you like spicy, I would order higher on the spice level. First time to this Thai restaurant in Bellingham and probably the last. I thought something was off when we walked in to this large restaurant on a Friday night and it was pretty empty. They didn't seem busy with takeout orders. There was only one server. I wouldn't say the food was bad, it just wasn't really good either. The yellow curry was more like a green curry. The rice was old and had a toothy texture. The menu stated that drunken noodle could be made mild but it was too spicy in my opinion. My daughter who really likes spice tried it and agreed it was spicy. The Thai iced teas were the sweetest I've ever tasted. I did think the portion sizes were fairly generous, but when you don't even bother to take the leftovers does it really matter? read more

You could easily drive past this place if you aren't familiar with the area. It sits up pretty high on the hill and the sign is hidden by trees on the south side. The entrance is pretty steep and the parking lot is in desperate need of repairs and striping. The outside could use a facelift, the dead plants are very unattractive and one wonders whether the same lack of attention is paid to the rest of the business. Although the entry is somewhat grimy the rest of the restaurant seems tidy enough, no obvious dust or food debris lying around, the tables and chairs were in good repair and the decor is pleasantly Asian inspired. I did notice a couple of small bullseye holes in the windows though. Service was fast. We ordered beverages and fresh rolls for starters. The drinks were good and the rolls were very nice. For mains I ordered Red Curry Chicken, when the waiter asked me what protein I wanted, I repeated "chicken". When the food came out guess what was missing? I had it taken back and the cooks added some chicken. Now, I don't know whether the waiter screwed up or the cooks, but that was pretty ridiculous. Despite the screw up the curry was pretty tasty. My husband's Emperor Noodles were scrumptious. I highly recommend it. We will probably return as this is only one of a handful of Thai places that serves hard liquor and has decent food. read more

I stood at the hostess stand for at least five minutes. There was a large fish tank at the entrance, so I passed the time admiring the four saltwater fish gathering in the tank nearest to me obviously hoping to be fed (funny, me too). There were patrons in the restaurant, but I didn't even see a waiter running around for several minutes. Eventually, after taking an order from one table and filling water glasses at another, The waiter finally made his way over to the hostess stand, and I was finally greeted and seated with a menu. I ordered egg rolls, yellow curry and jasmine rice, but the waiter told me that rice came with the order, so I dropped the last item. The egg rolls, served with sweet and sour sauce, were piping hot, but didn't seem fresh. They had that 'frozen storage' quality to them. I had requested vegetables with my yellow curry instead of meat. I wasn't disappointed. There were bits of carrots, broccoli, snow peas, pineapple, potato, baby corn, etc. My preference for the degree of spicy came out just fine; although, I would not have opposed it being a little hotter. The restaurant decor is very nicely done, and I loved sitting next to the big picture windows, even if the view was just concrete and the street. Once I was finally seated, the service turned out just fine. The appetizer was nothing to write home about, but the main course was quite good. The meal was about $16 which seemed quite pricy, but actually, it could have fed two people easily if shared, so keeping that in mind, it seems more reasonable. At 4 stars (out of 5), this was not that spicy and still very sweet. Plus, why add a scoop of rice to a plate full of noods? Some people may love it, but it felt like I was cutting my pad thai with rice just to fill me up. Without the rice, this is still a giant order. I don't see a reason for it to be included. There is a lack of consistency and you expect to receive the same dish every time. Sadly, I have to downgrade one of my favorite places. The last few visits have been sliding downhill. Mostly the service has been steadily declining, apathetic even. Getting our orders wrong even when not busy, not returning to the table even for water refills, having to ask for silverware. Last visit, a drunken customer stumbled in from Samish Way and there was a scuffle about missing silverware. As a regular, I don't recognize any of the staff and they are different each time. Went here today for a belated Mother's Day lunch and was disappointed once again. The food quality has not suffered yet, but they have become stingy with their vegetables. My friend ordered a vegetarian dish and asked for more veggies. They only threw in a few mushrooms and cabbage. My friends said they wouldn't be returning. Thai food, even when it's bad, isn't terrible. But when it's good, it's really awesome. I didn't have high hopes of On Rice, especially when I walked in and it was an American hostess in a traditional Thai chong kben. I was pretty wrong about that, because the menu is extensive and the food was delicious. The red curry sauce is like crack - even though there's not a lot of substance and it's more like a soup, you basically want to drink it. Drunken noodles are chewy and delicious, and you can taste the char on the veggies. While the 4 and 5 star heat isn't exactly as hot as I'd like, they did say they could go over 5 stars, but I played it safe for the first time. That being said, the food is flavorful enough that you COULD eat it without spice. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some delicious Thai food. read more

The deep fried basil leaves on top were just something else, so light, crispy and delicious! The vegetables were cooked to perfection, not too crunchy and not too mushy. I'll be honest - I love (LOVE) Thai food. It's a quick meal to sit down for or take home, and most Thai restaurants serve the same dishes. Which is why I gave On Rice three stars. I always order the same thing the first time I'm at a new Thai restaurant (if it's a place I'll visit again - not while traveling or on vacation.) My go-to is Pad Kee Mao, aka Drunken Noodles. The dish can come out a few different ways: really sticky and dry, really watered down with sauce or lacking any flavor. The Pad Kee Mao here is actually pretty good, though lacking in enough spice/flavors. It's close to home, so it's good enough for when a craving hits, but not my favorite food ever. The ambiance is also really sterile and makes conversations awkward as the sound both carries and can be heard by others, but if you don't care about that, then this is a great option for Thai. (So that's a warning to anyone on a first date or any other awkward lunch; you might want to go somewhere else!) read more

I was really craving noodles. Living a block from this restaurant I decided to take a walk on a gorgeous day. It was warm and when I arrived I was a little overheated. I was greeted by a very nice gentleman and seated promptly. I noticed the special. Mango salad. I decided that sounded so much better than phad tai I am so glad i changed my mind. I'm from the southend, so I try my best not to compare this place to thai restaurants around the Greater Seattle Area (especially on how the Phad Thai is cooked). However, it will do the job to fulfill your Thai food needs! Service is good, and staff is nice! Portions are slightly above average which is awesome! Have had their food twice now and love it! After working at two different thai restaurants in Seattle, I've been nervous about trying out other Thai restaurants because, from past experiences, they've never had as good of food compared to the places that I've worked at, but this place was great! The first time I ordered take out, I really liked the atmosphere of the restaurant so much that I wanted to come back and dine in. And the food was delicious! The portions are pretty big and the flavors really work well together. Both times, I was greeted by very friendly and attentive staff and the food was made really fast. Terrible to-go experience. On Rice has always been overpriced with questionable service, at lest when compared to its competitors like Busara which is just around the corner. This time around they were open late, so I ordered. Got the Tom Kha soup. $13. Firstly, they use a SMALL AND SHORT soup container unlike the other Thai places. That's the first ripoff. The second is that they don't even fill the container up! Do yourself a favor and head down the street to Busara. Always good service there, better food, and bigger portions. I know that they have some pretty interesting decor in the place (including that nice wood-carved frame over to the right), but don't think you can just go around stealing them, defacing them, or anything. The only complaint I have for now is that their spice numbers didn't quite live up to their names. (I think the 3-star was a "Wowowee" or something like that.. and the 3-star panang tasted like a 1-star... maybe 1.5-star. Their highest is a 4-star.) The service was great. The servers were friendly and quite attentive. Their bathroom faucet amused me like crazy (it's a fountain faucet~ and the sink bowl was greenish with fish painted on it... I'm easily amused).. and their aquarium had a fairly nice collection of fish (None of those fish that look like they have a brain tumor..
