I love Ginger Boat! The atmosphere, service, and food were all wonderful. I ordered the sweet basil chicken stir fry (HIGHLY RECOMMEND) and it was so delicious. Meals are anywhere from $12-20 per person but you'll be able to share a plate or have left overs! The menus are hand written with cute drawings, the dining room is filled with bamboo and cherry blossoms; perfect for a date night! While the dining room itself is rarely packed, there can be occasional longer wait times as all the food is cooked upon ordering. We arrived at 11:40 am--10 minutes after they opened. Two guys eating at one table and two other individuals at the register paying for their order. Otherwise 5+ empty tables. We stepped up to order. After placing 1/2 of our order the host mentioned there is a 30 to 45 minute kitchen wait time due to online orders. WHAT. We only have 45 minutes before we have to leave. I then noticed the small sign about chest high on a post showing 30 min wait time. Having a business open at 11:30 am and 10 minutes after opening they can't handle walk-in patrons due to orders online means they have too small of a kitchen to handle all the orders. Enjoyed our meal here. My teriyaki boat was my favorite dish out of what we ordered. Love that it came with a salad. The portion was very generous and probably would have been enough for two. The fries were delicious along with the sauce which reminds me of the sauce you would get if you ordered walnut chicken, you know, the easily addicted type . We also tried the pho, not my favorite but it was ok and certainly generous once again. Our last dish was a shrimp curry and was just ok too. It def needed to add some more spice to it. This restaurant is small but very cute and accommodating. The menu is very extensive and is available to look at online. The hostess is also the person taking your order and serving you was very friendly and efficient. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. Both meals were good, I preferred the Pad Sao. Absolutely LOVED the lumpia that's wrapped in-house. Besides the crisp crunch you feel when you bite into it, you could taste how fresh the lumpia filling is as the flavors coat your tongue. Since it's freshly fried, biting into the overlapping layers of the pastry skin was such a satisfying experience, second only to stepping on crunchy fall leaves. The tangy sauce that it comes with compliments the lumpia really well as it helps cut some of the heaviness and brings about a new experience to flavor profile. The tempura fries were also really tasty as it's light and fluffy under the thin and crisp tempura batter. The sauce it comes with compliments the fries really well too, bringing in a little sweet and creaminess with along with it. Definitely a must try if you're in the area! Always nervous to come into a restaurant and it's empty. We came for the Ramen that was rumored to be on the menu. But no such luck. So we had the Pho and wonton soup instead. 100% this is the best Pho I have had since the very first time I had Pho 12 years ago. My mind immediately went to Ginger Boat! We split the chicken vermicelli salad and the beef vermicelli salad. The vermicelli salad bases are the same for both dishes-cold mung bean noodles sitting upon a bed of crunchy greens, with peanuts to pour on top. The chicken and beef were so tangy and flavorful. I hadn't been to Ginger Boat in many, many moons. I know it changed hands a few times, so I was always a little weary. We wandered in late on a Saturday afternoon and there were only a couple tables in the restaurant. We ordered the Shanghai noodles, jajjangmyeon and combo teriyaki (with all the meats!) as well as the lumpia they had on special that day. The portions were a great value for the price and the service was super friendly. The lumpia was definitely a highlight. I got their Grilled Chicken Vermicelli Salad with extra sauce, Pork Goyza, Veggie Egg Rolls and my partner got the Bulgogi Teriyaki. All items were hot and flavorful. My salad was big with lots of chicken and they loaded me up with the sauce. My partners Bulgogi tasted good, but the meat was pretty dry which was unfortunate. Granted after reading previous reviews I expected more "full flavor" in our choices & it just didn't happen. The poorest was the tempura; tasteless heavy batter with not much shrimp. Our gyoza was well prepared with a tasty sauce but very little "filling". The chicken also had a good sauce and my vegetarian granddaughter enjoyed her rice; generous serving sizes. My boyfriend and I have been to Gingerboat quite a few times, however we went last night for the first time with GB under new owners. I ordered tofu drunken noodles, the dish was filling and tasteful. Plenty of food for a very decent price. Unfortunately we encountered some issues... My bf and I contribute the poor service to our overall negative experience. The waitress was pleasant but definitely lacked basic knowledge of the menu and failed to check on us besides once during our meal. Furthermore, the staff was unprepared to answer questions about the menu; which was impertinent because the menus only contained names of the dishes and no descriptions, with only had a few very small photos. Granted, they are waiting for their new menus, even so this temporary menu proved troublesome. We had to ask several questions about the dishes, and although the waitress did give us some answers after asking the cooks, we mostly had to urge her to find the answers for us. I cannot determine if the lack of good service can be explained by the new management still in process of running the restaurant or something else. At the least, my boyfriend and I are not impressed. This was an old favorite of ours, although he's given up on this restaurant. I'd consider giving the restaurant another chance in the future. read more

Wow! I can't believe I did not know of this place after one year of staying here in Bellingham. This place is located in Sehome Village Plaza, across from the REI store. I came here for lunch on a Wednesday and was readily seated upon entering. There was one person manning the front end of this restaurant, which is half service. They take your order but you pay at the register. I ordered a Hawaiian fried rice for $10 and it tasted very good. The meat burst with flavor and the pineapple was fresh instead of canned. If only the food came out faster and the fried rice cost a little bit less, I would have given this place five stars. read more
