My only gripe is the bathrooms, which are a bit more rundown than usual for an Asian restaurant (and I say this as an Asian). Luxurious toilet paper though. I had the kalbi and the marinade was SOoooooo delicious!!! Highly recommend. Family had beef and chicken teriyaki, salmon rolls minus the cucumber. Their food seemed okay. This place is special. First it's a Japanese restaurant that also offers Korean barbecue. Pretty sure the owner is Vietnamese, since the lady chef that work there was shouting out orders in Vietnamese. Our server/owner is really nice and you can tell he knows his regulars as he would greet them as they enter the door. Food came out hot and fast. I order their spicy beef soup with clear noodles, a dish I had before. While my server did ask me spicy level from 1 to 5-- I don't think it mattered because my "4" was not spicy at all. My husband order his ramen a "4" too and it was not spicy at all. Lots of food to chose from if you are in the mood for ramen, noodles, sushi, or even Korean barbecue. Love your food Tokyo House, but disappointed with the take-out containers. SSC's current policy is to NOT recycle clamshells. They will send them to the landfill. They're not the type of plastic that's commercially compostable, and services like Ridwell won't take them, either. PLEASE find some take-out containers that can be responsibly disposed of. Do not let the appearance of the building's exterior turn you away from trying this spot. The employees were pleasant. Plenty of menu options plus Korean BBQ which I did not expect. The name Tokyo house really made us think that we were going to be walking into some top level Japanese restaurant with good sushi. Unfortunately, this was really not the case and the food was disappointing. First off, the floor was sticky. You can feel it and hear it with each step. It makes you wonder, did they mop and clean their restaurant last night? Was it fresh or reused soap? Next, it was unusually cold. So cold, that even the guests next to me went to go grab a jacket. Not sure what the deal was, but it was not a comfortable restaurant. The largest disappointment was in the food. We ordered the bento box with two tuna rolls. First off, there was virtually no tuna in the rolls. Just rice and a lot of cucumbers. The tuna that was there tasted very much low quality, along with their wasabi. Lastly, the rice in the tuna was over sweetened and very acidic tasting. I felt reluctant to eat each piece, but at the same time, obligated to eat it for spending that much on it. Not the type of feeling you want to have leaving a restaurant. I will leave with a positive note. These dedicated worker looked like they were working hard and giving all they could to make it happen. They're very forthright as per their culture, but obviously were concerned to make their customers happy. I'm sure there are food items on their menu that taste like 5 star perfection, but the sushi was just not it this time. And I am sure their bbq also rocks. I got this delivered to my house when I was craving some kimbap and under the weather. I also decided to get some of their miso soup! This long time fixture on Garden street has a reliable reputation for serving decent but limited Japanese and Korean cuisine. I found the restaurant to be relatively clean if somewhat well worn. Our waitress (I'm assuming she is an owner) was quick, efficient and pleasant. I noticed that she was very good at explaining the menu which is a rarity in most Asian restaurants. My meal was ok. The Hibachi chicken was over cooked and dry. I enjoyed the grilled vegetables and rice more than the chicken. The meal came with a salad and Miso soup both were just okay. I also had the California roll which was also fine. They use surimi instead of real crab but that is fairly common in less expensive places. My husband had Spicy Beef Ramen. He enjoyed his noodles and let me try some. The beef was under seasoned, over cooked and dry, the noodles were slightly undercooked (al dente is better in Italian cuisine) but the broth was heavenly. Salty, spicy, full of flavor... I'd come back just for that. I will be back, I need to try the Korean BBQ, it looks interesting. read more

The service was very bad, the waiter was irritated with me. He put in my order wrong so they had to remake it. The sashimi was chewy, and spicy tuna roll tasted like canned tuna mixed with hot sauce. It was disgusting, I could barely eat it. It was 35 dollars, there was an employee eating loudly and watching loud videos on his phone that sat directly behind me. I have been here 3 times. The first time I went, the lady at the front was kind of rude but I didn't think much of it. Maybe she was just having a bad day. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. The second time there was an older male server and he was very friendly and the food was good. This last time was the female again and she was rude to my partner and kind of argued with him when he asked for the egg to be over medium on his bimbimbap and when she read the order back she didn't say over medium. Then she rolled my sushi and the sushi was full of rotten avocado. I've spent years working in restaurants, so I know what they deal with and I know everyone has bad days. i've been here many times and it's always wonderful! the food is perfect quality for the price point. however the menu was recently updated (july 2024) and seems like the prices went up just a bit. i tried the new korean beef bulgogi soup this time. it came with rice and three korean sides. it was a very yummy and hot soup! but beef bulgogi is one of my favorite korean dishes and i was disappointed by the lack of bulgogi flavor? though hot, it was not spicy at all despite not being asked how spicy i wanted it. also, it really should be on the menu as beef bulgogi NOODLE soup because it was mostly (very tasty, clear) noodles. read more

It was our third night in Bellingham for my daughter's wedding party. We just came out of the movie, Shang-Chi, and our group was looking for food, but most of the restaurants were either closed, only so take out, or have a loooooooong wait. We called so many restaurants and found this one open and the wait was only 20 minutes. We had 15 people in our party and most of them enjoyed their food. Don't get too confused by the outside because it is more than just Japanese food. We had the Korean BBQ and it was my first experience cooking my own food at a restaurant. They bring out a ton of good stuff to add to your meat! We got 8 portions for 5 of us. The zucchini was really good and the burner they have in the center of the table cooks things really well. Our meat was delicious, regardless of how sketchy it looked raw haha. We were lucky to have someone who was good at cooking with us and he did it all. Someone will have to volunteer to cook the meat so be prepared for that! Or everyone for themselves. Service was really casual and friendly. This was the WORST food I have ever tasted or been served. I normally will eat anything. It doesn't matter. Down the hatch. But this was horrifying. I don't know what the taste was but it was disgusting unlike anything I have ever tasted. Unetible even for me. Chicken Teriyakie, Miso Soup and salad. So strangely and disgustingly horrible it scared me. I took one bite of each and was unwilling to try another. It all tasted like left over with random rancid sauce, reheated or refried. I was suprised by the $70.00 bill so I went back in because I had a question about the bill. How bad can ramen be? Well if you ever had a college roomy that lived on top ramen, that's how bad it was. It was quite literally a ten cent bag of top ramen with some extremely over boiled veggies on top and bland thin beef skirt underneath. Ever had that really good ramen egg that is so famous around the world? These turds haven't. They just throw a poorly fried egg on top. Not even an egg fried well. Kind of like if you asked your 7 year old to fry an egg go for you. Actually maybe a 7 year old made the whole dish! Now it makes sense. I just paid $12 for a ten cent bag of top ramen with awful broth, overlooked veggies and a fried egg on top. And the music was terrible. Not traditional, not contemporary..
