I think this place has some great food. Korean bbq with lots of sides reasonably priced, good bento boxes and the kimchi food is amazing on a cold day. It's very casual with a nice mix of families and local college students, and it seems to be open later than a lot of restaurants is the area. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. read more

Super sad not a lot of people in Bellingham know about this place. It's a small Korean bbq style (If you don't know what Korean bbq is, it's basically cook it yourself meat and veggies on a skillet/pan built into your table) restaurant with other Japanese options as well. 2 friends and I ordered one of the meat combos which comes with -- I think -- 3 different plates of meat, it was only around 45-50 dollars which isn't bad at all for 3 people (drinks are not included). We got the pork belly, beef and something else which I forgot the name of. The meat wasn't the highest of quality but it was still very good! The combo also comes with tofu + seaweed miso soup, rice and sesame balls for dessert.. In my opinion, this restaurant is perfect for college kids.. it's not too expensive for 3+ people and the food is yummy. This restaurant is kind of all over the place. They are called Tokyo house but they serve mostly Korean food. That being said this place is great!! It's the first time my fiancé had ever tried Korean barbecue and we really appreciated how interactive it is. The marinade on all the meats was spot on. So delicious. The short rib was by far our favorite but we would eat all of it again. The sides were super delicious and I ate all of the Kim Chi in about five minutes. I also really enjoyed all of the pickled veggies. The staff were very nice and made sure to come help us out when they thought we weren't doing too well lol. Their bento box can only be described as gross. You're better off at Blue Fin or Oishii. Chicken was just plain rubbery. California rolls were bland and not fresh. Tempura was not fried in tempura batter. Yuck. read more

Service was wonderful and the inside was very comfortable. Reason for the three star is based on the veggie tempura, rice, and salad. I got the A+B bento box with veggie tempura and for $3 extra 6 piece salmon sashimi with a side order of a California roll. The rice was on the harder side and fell apart (not very sticky). The salad it came with had no flavor and seemed a bit on the older side. My biggest complaint was the tempura... it was super fried and very hard and tasted like the gyoza. Not flakey and the veggies were mushy and seemed old as well. Only reason I would go back IS for the sashimi. Update: This is my go to place when I am craving sashimi and sushi rolls! I ate here with my wife, 2 year old daughter, and mother. I had a chicken teriyaki bento and my wife and mother both had sushi. I'm on an ongoing quest to find the best Teriyaki in Watcom county and so far this is the best I've had, it was quite good and I will eat there again. This place was ATROCIOUS!! Went out with my best friend, and received the worst sushi. The rice was sticky, wet, watery, and overall, inedible. We waited to talk to a waitress and told her politely that we couldn't finish our meal, due to the blandness and wateriness of the rolls. Waitress was extremely rude and told us we needed to pay and stormed off, before even letting us communicate anything we had in mind to make up for the poor meal. I wanted something quick and good after a long workday in Bellingham; conveyor belt sushi sounded like it could be the thing, so I gave this place a try. I had second thoughts on seeing the exterior of the building, but you can't always judge a book and all that, so I went in and was promptly seated at a table by the (small) conveyor belt. Positive note first: Bubble Tea = Yes please. In fact, if every conveyor-belt sushi place served bubble tea, the world would be a better place. Unfortunately, Tokyo House's bubble tea was far from being the best I've had and was far too stingy with the tapioca balls, but I am at least a fan of the idea. The belt was very poorly stocked, especially with sushi; probably less than a third of the plates that were there were sushi, the rest being fruit or desserts, and fried appetizer plates. I tried the items that looked appetizing; some were decent, and a couple were terrible (like a deep-fried roll that tasted like it had bad-quality Chinese BBQ Pork in it). I waited patiently for more selections to be added to the belt, which never happened except for three plates of a rainbow roll, the last plate of actually made it as far as my table. Special orders could have been a possibility, but the menu states that for special order rolls you have to accept the entire roll, which defeats the purpose of doing the conveyor belt. Service was extremely inattentive, but just as I was considering leaving, the cook {I can't say "sushi chef" in good conscience} did finally offer to make some nigiri for me, with no minimum order. I accepted and ordered salmon and unagi; the rice portions were small but at least the toppings weren't too stingy. Finally, on checkout, the price seemed quite high for what I ate, especially considering the generally low quality. Disturbingly, most of what was on the belt when I got there was still there when I left 45 minutes later. I still don't know if there is such a thing as good sushi in Bellingham yet, but if it exists, I know where it isn't. read more

This restaurant has helped me feel at home in Bellingham and I hope to make meals here a regular occasion, as the food quality is incredible for ridiculous prices and an ambiance and service that makes me want to come back just to drink water. I'm vegan so I usually only eat avocado, and cucumber sushi and the prices here were definitely right! It was only $2 for 6 pieces of avocado (or cucumber) sushi. I come from the easy coast (Montreal, Canada) and maybe its just where I've been, but the sushi in Montreal is so much more expensive than this place! The sushi it self was good but not THE BEST that I've ever had. The seaweed around wasn't wrapped that tightly, but thats just me being picky. Overall the food was great. The service was really slow, and I felt bad because our waitress kept forgetting about our Edamame so it took a couple extra minutes. This is a little gem in the city for something different! Tokyo House serves not only Japanese food, but a delightful Korean barbeque. It's a place that could use a little loving care, however, the food was delicious and the service was good. We ordered the mixed Bolgogi bbq meal, and cooked all the chicken, prawns and pork ourselves at the table on a domed hot plate. The waitress also placed little bowls of vegetables and kimchi around the table to add to our rice and cooked meat. Add a Korean beer and you'll forget you'll be transported to Korea, if only for a little while. It was a little smoky from the bbq at times, and it isn't the cheapest place in town, but definitely go for the experience. read more

Tried their ramen and rainbow roll during my second visit. Both were mediocre. I ordered a spicy seafood ramen. The ramen noodles tasted like any instant ramen noodle. The broth was good. Then there was onions, squid and maybe one shrimp. Not much seafood. There was also a cracked egg. Nothing special. Don't think it was worth $12. To be honest, it was something I could make at home. The rainbow roll is a California roll with raw fish, shrimp and avocado placed in top. The rice seamed a little hard. Almost as if the roll was made and refrigerated for a couple of hours. Then topped with the raw fish, shrimp, and avocado. Maybe it was just this one roll and this one time. It didn't taste fresh to me. Disappointed in the two dishes I ordered. The Korean food, although not as great as korean food sold more south, tasted much better than the old Stone Pot restaurant that closed down in downtown. My friend got the bibimbap which was alright, not very warm. However, it was still flavorful. I got the yukgaejang stew. This one lacked a bit more flavor, it just tasted very salty toward the end and didn't have much noodles put in it. The service was nice and friendly. Okay food. Bad service. Smokey environment. My guy and I came on a slow Saturday night. Upon walking in, we weren't greeted. There were only two other tables, but we had to sit and wait for the busboy to clear a table for us. After being seated and given menus, the waitress forgot about us. My boyfriend had to go to the front counter to remind them of our presence. The waitress took our order and then didn't bother to check back. The cook served us. Once finished, we went up to the register to pay. And then we waited there for a while. The restaurant wasn't busy and neither was the waitress. My boyfriend and I have tried to come to this place twice now for korean bbq. The first time we went, we were forced to wait nearly 45 minutes (even though there were three grill tables open!!), because we were told that there were some reservations coming in soon. Well, they never showed up, and they still refused to seat us at a grill table. We went back again last night, just to give them another shot, and it was awful. They also tried to pull the whole reservation thing on us yet again, even though the restaurant was completely empty, and we had a reservation! She, I think the owner or manager of the place, had tried to tell my boyfriend that we had to come really early, because they had a ton of reservations. It was so dark in the restaurant that we couldn't see if our meat was cooked enough, so we had to just continuously keep flipping the meat (which wasn't really a problem, but we had ordered pork, and raw pork = bad). It also got really smoky, and they didn't ever once turn on a fan or open the front door or anything. The server that we had was very nice, but everything else was literally terrible. We paid $50 for the worst quality meat I have ever had. They served us HUGE chunks of cartilage with no meat on it at all? And, for the price, you'd assume it would be at least a lot of meat, but it was the smallest portion I've ever received at any kbbq place (and I've been to quite a few). One of the side dishes was broccoli, and they served us like four florets of broccoli??? And, of course, now cue the massive amount of diarrhea from my boyfriend and I. Whenever I call in for food they lie about the time frame to come and pick it up, the other night I called in a few sushi rolls and they said it would be about 15 minutes So I go, arrived right after it had been 15 minutes, I walked in and was told it wasn't ready yet so I took a seat 10 more minutes past and I asked for a time frame and all she said was few more minutes. This place is good if you get the right food. I ordered a beef ramen and was very very underwhelmed, not much flavor, noodles were kinda lame, and there was about 7 pieces of steak in my whole bowl. This place would have been a two however a person I went with ordered their bulgogii bento box and it looked like I wouldn't have regretted my decision at all. Seeing their potential made me put a three instead of a two, I recommend the bento box and do not recommend the ramen. read more

Hubs had to have his truck serviced at the Toyota dealership so we had some time to kill. Sushi? Why yes, sushi sounds delightful! Siri gave us directions and off we went. We were one of three tables around 3sih so it was nice and quiet. First thing hubs noticed was the grill in the table...Korean BBQ! Being on a time crunch we shall save the for another day; back to the sushi. Hubs started with an order of tuna nigiri and we both got large beers--Kirin for me and Saporro for him. Cold & refreshing beer and the nigiri was beautiful & generous-South Alabama wasn't that generous for sure. I ordered the Red Dragon Roll and the Alaska roll on the recommendation of the owner. She is quite delightful. The miso soup was so good! Here come the rolls...so pretty! So TASTY! I do believe it was some of the best sushi I've had. The place is welcoming and comfortable. The service is great. We had a nice chat with her husband when he asked if I was from Alabama...my car tag tipped him off. LOL. He said he had spent some time in Panama City, FL it was nice that they take an interest in their customers.
