As recent movers to WA we were really happy to find good sushi! Blue Fin has it all! Nice decor, clean, friendly service, nice sushi bar as well as tables. We tried a bento box, Seattle roll, soft shell crab roll and CRAZY MONKEY! If you are a fan of jalapeño poppers this is the roll for you! Crazy delicious is more like it! Seattle is also very very good. The bento box had california rolls and while they were on the small side I really enjoyed them and would order a roll of them next time. We are truly shocked.... we walked in tonight at 8:20pm, to see miserable employees and these are the owners of this restaurant...... they close at 9pm.... you would think and imagine how grateful they are for new customers..... We ordered 2 spicy tuna rolls, 1 miso soup and 1 chicken terriyaki. Everything was delicious and superb! The miserable daughter of this restaurant was astonishing rude, incapable, lazy and nonchalant because she made sure to give me only 1 roll and it was done intentionally. I went to speak to the Mrs. Owner with another one of their daughters- because they all seemed as if they did not care at all- I told them how awful their service was and how rude they all were and that it's shocking because I have never ever met a bunch of miserable, nonchalant, ungrateful people. You lose my business. I don't care how great your food was..... it is never equal to the worth of your rude and nonchalant service given boldly. Pro--Service was great. I've had this place in my bookmark to try for a while. I wouldn't call myself a sushi expert but rather if it tastes good or not. Con: The food Husband liked his sushi roll and his order of zombie brain. My spider and spicy tuna sushi were okay. Not bad but not spectacular. My teen ordered their spicy chicken and she barely ate any of it. Both of us kept going back to saying our other place was way better. I will NEVER go back to this place again. I arrived at 8:15pm. They close at 9:00. I was a party of one. I was told they did their last seating at 8:30. I was there at 8:15. I was also told they had a wait list. There was nobody there waiting. In addition, there was a two-top table sitting empty. I was not offered that table and there were no other people there. There was also a gentleman sitting at a four-top by himself. If this is how they run the restaurant, I cannot imagine why people go there at all. I will NEVER step foot in that place again, and I was a regular customer - at least once every two weeks. They have lost a customer for life. This is lousy customer service. If you say you close at 9:00, close at 9:00. IF THEY WANT EVERYONE OUT BY 9:00, THEN THEY SHOULD POST 8:15 OR 8:30 AS THEIR CLOSING TIME. The food was mediocre. Nothing better or worse than the other Japanese restaurants in town. But it's ok, I just wanted to have a quick lunch after I worked all morning and I was hungry. But I must say I felt very uncomfortable eating there. They showed me a table, I ordered a couple items, then food arrived. There were only 2 more tables occupied, so it was pretty quiet. A couple of servers came to ask me how I was doing. Nothing unusual. But somehow, I felt very uncomfortable. While I was eating, still food in my mouth and actively chewing, a server came to ask if I was done or still working on my food. I was like......wow. Seriously? I was only there for 30 minutes or so all together. The place was pretty empty. I was a quiet customer. And yet, they couldn't wait for me to leave? Then I realized why I felt so uncomfortable. We drove into Bellingham after 11+ hours on the road. Sushi sounded great. We called Blue Fin but they were doing takeout only. Well. We could do that. Ordered two sashimi combos with sides of sushi rice. Pickup was on time. The restaurant is in a mini mall. Inside the place was wrapped up with tables set up in front to handle take out. The staff checked my order before wrapping it up carefully. And thanked me. Covid has taken such a toll on small businesses. And clearly Blue Fin trying to survive. Food is good for Bellingham standards. Sushi rolls were tasty and obviously it isn't the best if you compare it to Vancouver or Seattle but it's the best for Bellingham. Servers were all polite and attentive. It's a small but cozy place perfect to catch up with friends without being too loud! read more

The presentation was done with care and the food had a wonderful taste and very clean finish. For years, I had heard from friends that the best sushi in Bellingham was to be had at Blue Fin Sushi. And I LOVE SUSHI! I am mad for it! So finally I get a chance to try it. Oh my little heart...the place is sooooo charming inside. Unfortunately, I am writing this during the pandemic, so eating inside is not an option. Plus I was a little nervous getting sushi to-go as you want it fresh-fresh-fresh. I am happy to say that, despite having to do take-away, our food was, in fact, wonderful despite. We ordered agedashi tofu--the tofu wasn't as creamy as I personally like, but the batter was perfect which is vital. The shrimp tempura was lovely--very light on the coating--and a generous amount of lovely shrimp. We ordered several rolls: kappa maki (cucumber), rainbow (multi-fish and other toppings) and spider (crab with flying fish row on top of the laden roll). They were all very nice, the rainbow being my very favorite. But what I always crave? Nigiri sushi and Blue Fin's was wonderful. I ordered saba (mackerel). I love mackerel just as it is! My issue with a lot of Japanese restaurants is that they try to "tone down" the strong fishy flavor by using vinegar. I, personally, savor the dark, meaty fishiness of mackerel. So I was happy to find that--while still trying to tone it down--it was lightly done so that the flavor of the mackerel still came through. We also ordered maguro (tuna), "super white" (escolar) and Hamachi (yellow fin tuna--and why is Hamachi correctly capitalized? Mystery...) My only disappointment was with the maguro, which is ironic as it is blue fin tuna--it was a little sinewy inside times two--and it shouldn't have been that way in my less than knowledgeable opinion. But the escolar was lovely and so was the Hamachi, which is my favorite! I will add that the rice was perfect. It can be too vinegary, or too sweet, or kind of fall apart. The rice was just perfect. Perfect... It was all fresh enough that we had leftovers the next day that were delicious. The restaurant is operating very safely for protection against the virus and for accommodating take-away. We had everything we might want or need and safely, from my perspective. The staff were lovely too. Very friendly, thoughtful and solicitous. Blue Fin deserves its accolades. My friends were right to so highly recommend it. read more

Sign says open in BIG neon letters and closing time says 8 pm - we walk in at 7:20 not serving anymore! THATS NOT HOW YOU RUN A BUSINESS!!!!!!!! THREE times!!!!! Be warned. If they feel like closing they will whenever even though sign says open and people inside. We will NEVER EVER EVER go back. Driving to BC for sushi. We have photos capturing of all three times. Walked in and only found 2 seats available, first sign that it's a fabulous establishment. Service was excellent. Our server was very attentive, even though it was quite busy at dinner rush. Got there a few minutes before they opened at 4:30pm today. We were the second table seated, but they quickly filled up. We sat down and knew what we wanted already since we looked online. We were brought water pretty quickly, and watched all seats become filled up in minutes. It was a bummer to watch others who came in after have their order taken first but we weren't sweating it. We finally got to order, and several items weren't available, no big deal. But then it came to them letting me know they cant prevent cross contamination with my onion allergy, because they were too busy. We ordered anyways, and watched the people who came at the same time receive their food, and also finish. We got our order 55 mins after arriving. I found that to be a bit strange as again we got there before the doors even unlocked. My husband ordered a warm sake for us, but we were only brought one cup. At that point we were just excited to eat as we were over an hour away from home. The salmon sashimi tasted fresh, but then it came to the other rolls. They were not fresh, one was so pungent with a fishy a taste that I gagged, and ended up not eating. It's been hours now, and my stomach is so upset, and I'm so nauseated. The only person who came around to check on my family was the server filling water cups. Absolute bummer for my birthday celebration. If you're looking for good sushi, they aren't it. Next year I will make the drive to Sugo hand roll bar. read more

Blue Fin has the best sushi around. The fish is always super fresh and the cuts are generous. The rolls are also creative and fun. The service can be hit or miss (when there was dine in), but my understanding is that they're still takeout only. The deluxe sashimi platter has been a birthday tradition for myself and I'm always super pleased! Keep an eye on their fresh list too, they often have things like toro and uni. read more
