It took around 40 mins to assemble (as we visited during dinner hour) but the people inside were very helpful and assisted us in ordering. The fish still had the taste of ocean in it, and the rice was not overly seasoned. Sushi was wrapped well and didn't fall apart when bitten. And since it was the best reviewed sushi in town we were thrilled when they reopened and actually added a dining room. Disappointed that this place is take out only - planned to be here for a date night. Pricing seemed to be a little on the higher end. My recommendation is enjoy sushi at a somewhere that serves in restaurant. I feel like sushi is meant to be enjoyed and savored. But, if you're a take out sushi person this maybe your place. In a town without a ton of sushi options I was excited when Fujisan opened their doors last year! Born of a former tiny food stall in the now-defunct Bellingham Public Market building, Fujisan is a sweet, brightly-lit space in Fairhaven offering elevated sushi, rolls, and other Japanese offerings like ramen. On my first visit I enjoyed a couple of rolls - including a hamachi roll which was divine. My daughter enjoyed her salmon roll, too. The fish was fresh and the rolls were enormous and filling. On my second visit I ordered the spicy miso ramen and (wow!) was it delicious. Packed full of noodles and topped with a poached egg it was rich and filling. So filling, in fact, that I had to take most of it home to finish for dinner later that day. Fujisan can get busy at lunch, so go early. Or, better yet, get takeout and/or have a sushi picnic at one of the nearby parks. So glad we have yet another great sushi option here in town! read more

Ordered pick up from here around 6pm. Order took a little longer than expected. I showed up at the quoted time and had to wait another 15 minutes. I ordered the salmon and yellowtail sashimi, uni and unagi nigiri, and tonkazsu ramen. The sashimis were amazing. Very fresh and the cut size were perfect. The yellowtail just melt in your mouth like butter. The nigiri were good too. Uni nigiri had a very generous portion of uni on top. Ramen was OK. Broth was tasty. I issue was that they packaged the noodle and broth and topping all together. By the time I ate it (only 15 minutes since the order was prepared), the noodle was already soaking up the broth and became mushy. I didn't take off any star for that because I don't think it's entirely their fault. Ramen was not the best to go food. Though I recommend them packaging the noodles separately from now on. After exploring Bellingham for the first time all day my friend and I needed a fresh dinner to make up for the Saturday market cookies, alcohol, vegan Reubens, and bean burritos we scarfed down earlier. Fujisan came through! We walked up around 7 on a Saturday and made a to-go order in person, since dine-in wasn't an option at the time. We ordered a bottle of dry sake recommended by the friendly lady taking our requests, along with a Veggie Roll ($7.5), Zen Roll ($10), Spicy Tuna Roll ($8.5), and Vegetable Ramen ($11). The food took about 15 minutes, as they weren't slammed. We took the goods down to the waterfront (thanks for another good rec!) to enjoy while watching the eerie yet beautiful smoky sunset. The rolls were quite fresh and generous in size too! The Veggie Roll included avocado, cucumber, carrot, and lettuce. It was super refreshing and exactly what I was craving. The Zen Roll was packed with tuna, salmon, avocado, and cucumber and was tasty as well. My friend enjoyed the tuna roll which was filled with a heaping amount of ground tuna, spicy mayo, and lettuce--we left the avocado out due to allergies. The ramen serving was also hefty! They pack the noodles and broth/veg/egg separately so the noodles won't get sog, nice. I tried a bit and it was pretty good. I have had better veg ramen in Seattle but my friend really enjoyed it. The ramen included tofu, wakame aka seaweed, cucumber, corn, carrot, seasoned egg, scallions, bamboo shoots, and garlic. We could have done without the corn but it wasn't the worst addition. For the price, I would say they were good, definitely better than Sushi you find in glossary stores (Fried Mayer, Haggens, Safeway, TraderJoes, etc).
