This Pho restaurant was very busy. Luckily, we were sat in about 10 minutes. Service was ok. We ordered the Pho Tai and my kids had the BBQ Pork plate with fried spring rolls. Phob Snob reporting. I had high hopes for this one. As one of my favorite Pho resturants is also called Pho 99. But I would hard pass the next time Im in town. Heres the details. Broth = was hot and pretty much bland. The Pho lost its soul at this place. The broth was almost just hot water. No flavor other than its ingredients seeping into the broth. Noodles = was decently made as its not slimy but still with no flavor in the soup. Its was like just noodles in hot water. Meats = was good the only highlight of the Pho. Spring Rolls = we got the grilled beef spring roll. Was our highlight of our meal. Service = the greeter at the door was very friendly. I think his younger brother was our server. I've been eating at Pho99 for many years. The food and service is very consistent. Happily, it is always the same. The decor and ambience is certainly not luxurious, but rather stark and simple. However, it is always very clean, well organized and the service is friendly and extremely efficient. I appreciate that they have a wide variety of offerings on their menu. I think the pho is some of the most flavorful in town. I've been told they start making their broth the night before. Another nice plus; they offer a "frequent buyer" Punch card. It was good. They were out of beef broth, but we were there around 7 so it is understandable.

You can smell the cinnamon before you even get in the door. The broth is amazing, the beef is fresh and cooks as it should. The veg was fresh crisp. The only problem I'm going to have next time is deciding which noodle dish to eat. read more

Disclaimer: 100% vietnamese born and feed by my vietnamese mom's cooking, so I may be a bit harder on them then the local Bellingham folks here. First Pho 99 is a chain and if you ever live or been in California you will know they are like the "McDonald's" of the Vietnamese "diner." So when I moved up here, I was told there was like 3 vietnamese restaurants in Bham. This is my second one I have tried. Earlier I did check out a mom and pop restaurant called Pho Ly so I am going to base my review off my experience with them. I ordered the #74. Bún Thịt Nớng, Chả Giò ($11.15) Veggie marinated grilled pork slices and fried egg roll. Pros: Veggies included while they were not much were fresh. The marinated grilled pork was good, but nothing to brag to mama about. Con: Missing the pickled carrots that usually comes with the veggie. The vermicelli noodles were not the ones I am use too. Yes (non asian) folks..there are different kind of vermicelli noodles and the ones they used here was not good. In my 45 years, I have never eaten this brand of vermicelli noodles before, and trust me I have eaten a lot of vermicelli noodles in my lifetime. For those that don't like fish sauce, you can skip this part. Yes (non asisan) folks.. not all fish sauce or otherwise know by us Vietnamese peeps "nuoc cham" are the same and don't try to substitute soy sauce for it cause you don't like the smell. Like wine and diamond...color is key!! You can tell when the nuoc cham is "water down" and has no flavor by the color and taste. I took a picture of the fish sauce that the restaurant provided with my entree to what I had at home (mama's recipe) for comparison. Besides the spice factor, you can see the color is way darker then the see thru "fish sauce" they provided. Sauce matters folks..its what brings all the ingredients of the vermicelli bowls together!!! So I ordered the same item at Pho Ly a few weeks earlier and it was a few bucks cheaper and it was way better. Their pork was amazing and their veggies were just as fresh. The nuoc cham sauce was not as good as mine but way better then Pho 99 for sure! I also order a rice plate. Pork chop over rice ($11.15) but have not tried it yet. It's pretty simple dish so can't be completely ruin unless the pork chops and rice is horrible. Over all..Pho 99 "okay" for a taste of vietnamese cruisine but if you want a more vietnamese authentic favor...go to Pho Ly..better yet go read my review and look at my pictures. So sad there's only 3-4 choices for vietnamese cruisine in Bellingham...haven't try Soy House (#3) or Pho Bubble Tea (#4) yet, but stay tune. read more

I've come here a couple times. Orders some apps and also had the pho/vermicelli noodles. Both were good but I prefer the noodles. I would say this is a pretty decent food establishment and typically what I would consider good Vietnamese food. There seems to be a lot of seating and this place does get busy during the cold days (most days lol.) The customer service is alright, again, they get busy so they are quickly going between tables and getting orders. Would recommend if you're looking for some pho in town. read more

This is one of the best pho restaurants in NW Washington. They have a very complete phô menu with every additive to include tendon and tripe. The soup came fast, and hot. We hit up this pho restaurant on the way to Seattle! We asked for their recommendation and they mentioned the beef stew in particular and also the #18 which is the "combo" noodle soup with eye round steak, thin brisket slices, fatty brisket slices, soft tendon and beef tripe. We also got the chicken spring rolls which they recommended of the rolls. Aside from the recommendations, we also got a side order of just bun bo hue broth. I'd say of all the items, the beef stew is the most solid. Lots of meat, fatty brisket pieces and because of that it is on the richer side which I enjoyed. The beef stew is definitely a little sweeter as well compared to most pho broths as well which I didn't mind for a change as it wasn't over bearing. I thought the fatty brisket pieces were verry tender, but because we got to the restaurant right at open, the staff informed us they weren't as tender as they could be as they needed more time. The #18 pho we would say was pretty typical as far as the broth, the beef and the other items in it goes. The chicken spring rolls were good and had a good char flavor, but they are considerably more expensive than the other rolls and I'd probably reconsider getting them for that reason. The bun bo hue broth here... I believe it had shrimp paste in it? I don't think I've ever had shrimp paste in my bun bo hue or perhaps the amount of it in my broth was just too much. Definitely non-traditional and I can't say it works. Overall, I'd come back for the beef soup as it seems to be their specialty and the fatty beef briskets were cooked really well and tender. It's also a nice changeup from the typical pho. read more

I enjoyed a large bowl of pho here on a busy, windy, winter night, and it really hit the spot. The service was prompt despite most of the tables being filled, and the pho came with steak (that finished cooking in the broth, yum) and brisket. There were the traditional onions/noodles in the soup, and white bean sprouts, mint leaves, and lime on the side. I also appreciated the tea and ice water that came with the meal, all for a filling, yummy total of around $15. I have been a long time customer and fan of pho 99 but after my encounter today I will never be returning. As some may know pho 99 offers punch cards to eventually earn a free bowl of pho. You need 9 stamps to get a free bowl. My team and I regularly go here after rainy practices so I've had no problem racking up stamps. Today I went in alone to try and use two punch cards I have that each have FIVE stamps. The waitress tried to tell me that she could not accept the stamp cards but that she'd ask a manager. She then rushed me into ordering before coming back with the pho and stating they couldn't accept it. A second waitress then came around to ask me if everything was good. I told her I was upset because I had MULTIPLE times seen my teammates and friends combine punch cards to earn a free bowl. She insisted that could not be true and insinuated that I was a liar. Not only was she blatantly disrespectful but she very sarcastically was like "I'll let the owner know of this issue". They then stared at me and made me incredibly uncomfortable the rest of my stay. Considering the fact I've been coming here for going on 3 years, and I know several of the employees by face I just think it's insane to not only say you won't accept over $200 worth of pho stamps but then imply your customer is a liar. Also the pho here is incredibly overpriced for the amount you're getting and the mediocre quality. Best customer service! I went here for dinner for the first time for dine in. The server was friendly and informative, he even saved me a couple bucks by recommending a similar dish that was cheaper and offered everything I was looking for. I went back 3 weeks later and ordered for pick up and the same server remembered that I liked chili oil on the side and even remembered my order from the first visit. Food was great and authentic. Been eating pho since I was very young and I ordered two #10s to go. Grabbed the food when told it would be ready and went home to be disappointed by pho noodles that looked like a block of rice that I had to use a metal spoon to break apart that didn't even fix it just made chunky pho. I'm super sick so I had my girlfriend grab the food and I had asked the man over the phone to make sure I got the condiments put inside the bag and sure enough we received a empty bag. 1st experience here was horrible called for a refund thankful enough they were considerate about that even though they said they'd call me back later. I work in the customer service industry and the noodles they served weren't far off stale blocks of rice. Will not return only reason I gave a 2/5 was bc the meat was edible. read more
