On a rainy cold day, we were craving some hot soup noodle to warm us up. Surprisingly, the other pho places I had bookmarked are closed on Sundays so we kept looking and came across Saigon Cafe. Staff were friendly and attentive and the menu was new and clean. I ordered #31, thought the broth was a bit bland but perhaps I've just been spoiled by Vancouver (BC) pho spots. It was quite busy the whole time we were there and it's clear they have a dedicated following. Generous with their bean sprout quantity. A random thing to note is their washroom doesn't have a bag/jacket hook so hopefully you have a friend that can hold onto your stuff while you use the gender neutral washroom, or better yet, plan your visit before you leave your table. read more

I went with no expectations as it was a convenient stop while we charged up the car. We ordered the fresh spring rolls with chili sauce and peanut sauce sides, flank and meatball pho and a Vietnamese iced coffee . I found this " vegetable and tofu" roll the most bland I've had. No herb, sauce , crunch.... I am a fresh roll lover, so a little discerning, but this was truly flavorless. Tofu, rice noodles, leaf lettuce and rice paper. Thats it. Like eating a carrier for too little peanut sauce. The pho was filling and came with a plate of bean sprouts referred to as "the vegetables" . The Vietnamese coffee was tasty but presentation awkward. It came as Condensed milk in a cup with a pour- over atop this and the separate glass of ice. I'm no expert in this ritual but I am accustomed to having the milk cold in the ice and the brewed coffee in a spouted vessel for easy pouring into the iced milk. Here we had to mix the brewed coffee, then add it dribbling and spilling to the ice. No big deal but awkward. It tasted good. The prices were reasonable and parking a lot shared with the strip mall . Not within the restaurant's control , but in circling for a spot around one lane, I was nearly backed into by not 2 not 3 but 4 cars. I think I recall a cannabis shop being in the mall or nearby. This may explain that. The service was friendly throughout. The place was empty but the time was odd. I don't think we'd return based upon the fresh rolls alone. read more

As recent movers to WA we are very happy to find good pho up here! The bao buns are something special and a huge size. We are impressed with their recent face lift! They have gotten rid of the ugly booths and really opened up the place. So much cleaner and feels like a whole different vibe. They also have fresh menus. Big A+ for the improvements. I was just traveling through Bellingham and found this place. It looks like it's been there for 100 years but I guess they've only had it for a couple years. The service was great. The food was awesome and I eat pho as you can see by my reviews every week. The bowls and servings were large. They have their own what looks like homemade hot sauce. The Vietnamese coffee was served like I'm in Vietnam, which I've been to and the only problem with this place is it's not near my home. I would eat here all the time. read more

The people working there were so perfectly delightful. We called ahead to order takeout and the person was helpful and nice, as was the server when I went to pick up the order. The vibe is just fine, mostly people seemed to be getting takeout not eating in. The lights are very bright. The food was salty with not much diversity of flavor. We each got a vermicelli bowl. I got pork and shrimp and an egg roll in mine. The shrimp were super firm, indicating they had been frozen and were way overcooked (just a guess). The pork was very fatty and saucy. Pho Snob reporting !!! For a small town like Bellingham. This place hits big like the ones in SoCal!!! Broth = is definitely hits the spot. Alittle sweet but you must add their chili oil / paste to bring out the umami to another level. The broth is HOT!!! which all PHO soup should be. Meat = the tripe is definitely very clean and your given a good deal of meat in the soup. The Noods = are done right NOT slimy or soap feeling if you get what I mean. Good portions as well. The spring rolls = we ordered minus the shrimp andnonly pork. The pork is alittle on the gamey side. But with the peanut sauce. I've had better Vietnamese food, but it's probably #3 out of 6 on my list for Vietnamese dining options in Bellingham. They do make Vietnamese crepes which not a lot of Vietnamese restaurants offer. We love pho after a long tiring day, and this hits the spot. The broth was slightly sweet, interestingly, so I don't think you'll need hoisin sauce. They agreed to make it for me fresh. It took about 15 minutes but they were so nice and friendly, offering water and a seat to wait for my order. I was home sick and decided to try Door Dash. I wanted some hot soup so I tried Saigon Cafe. I ordered the Vegetarian Pho, and the next thing I knew I heard a knock at my door, wow that was fast! My meal was still very hot, and they gave me extra noodles and toppings to go with it, and the toppings were on the side so they wouldn't get soggy. They also included siracha, hoisin sauce, and chili oil packets. The broth was great and the tofu was cooked perfectly. I got two meals out of it. I will definitely order from Saigon Cafe again. A friend suggested trying this place because of the positive reviews... we arrived right at noon and even though things were bustling, we were assigned a booth. As others arrived, they were asked "here or to-go?" And either assigned a table or directed towards the counter. One of our group had not arrived yet, but our server still brought us our beverages and said they would be back. When our friend arrived, our server reappeared. No one in our group was super familiar with Vietnamese food but the menu had some brief descriptions of the items. I cannot compare to other places (my second time having Pho) but I can tell you the bowl was huge! It also had a very nice flavor (and I some how demolished that entire bowl!) I had the vegetable/tofu pho and also vegetable "egg rolls". Everything tasted very fresh and healthy! The restaurant itself is clean and has some decorations and a screen with Vietnamese entertainment above the kitchen (music). Other than the food, the thing that stood out to me was our server! They were super patient with our group.. we stayed over 3 hours talking and they didn't rush us at all and refreshed our drinks and came over to clear the dirty dishes to make more room for us.. they even let us all pay separately. This review is not about the food or service. It is to applaud the thoughtful and considerate actions of the management. Let me explain.... It was Friday at 12:30pm, prime lunchtime. I had never been to Saigon Cafe, but had read the number of great reviews on Yelp. As I entered I noticed only a couple of seats open. The waiter (owner?) promptly approached and said, "sit wherever you wish." He then added, "We just got a wave of customers and your food order may take a bit longer than usual, perhaps 40 minutes." I was a bit short of time and GREATLY appreciated him telling me that. It was so much better than siting down, ordering and then being frustrated when my food took a long time to arrive. In summary, I thought it extremely considerate of him to advise me of the situation knowing I might leave. I will absolutely return and try what I expect to be a great meal. Bravo! read more

Nice family run establishment. Quick service and everything was good. The fried rice portion was ample and goes well with their chilly oil. The bahn mi bread was crunchy and filling was spot on.
