When I'm craving pho in Bellingham this is my go-to place. It's conveniently located on south campus. If you're in the mood for pho and need somewhere near downtown, this is the place to be! The large size is very generous. I know what i like, and no matter where i go i always get combination pho. This place does not disappoint. The menu is very easy to navigate. They split up their bowls by section, based on taste/how adventurous you want to be. They offer a simple bowl with a few fixings to a combination bowl with everything. If you have time and you're a fan of Vietnamese coffee, you'll appreciate that they bring out a drip coffee filter and condensed milk so you can have it fresh instead of from concentrate I've been multiple times and the service is always great. The house-made chili oil is fantastically potent...when they actually have it (last few times didn't). Not much in the way of ambience, and waiting area is quite small. In a part of town where the pho choices are almost non-existent, I'm thankful to have Pho 99 located pretty close to my house. Whenever I feel a cold coming on, or just need to warm up on a cold day, I give them a call and they've got my large combo ready to go when I get there. The broth is succulent, full of the complex flavors that make this Vietnamese staple so popular. And they have the best selection of meats that I've seen in town - including my two favorites, tendon and tripe. Each bowl comes with a generous side of the requisite pho garnishes like bean sprouts, Thai basil, thinly sliced jalapenos, and slices of lime. The large is more than enough for me and my sweetie to share, and we like to add some of their tasty egg rolls and spring rolls if we're feeling extra hungry. Pho 99 has special place in my heart as it's the place I go to eat alone and think about my life or listen to a podcast. I think soup is quite fitting for contemplation. We have continued to go here many many times since discovering it in September. It is our favorite place to go. We order the same thing every time, which is: 2 large bowls of Pho, 1 order of Beef Spareribs, 1 order of 2 Pork Eggrolls, and 1 Sampler plate of the 3 different Eggrolls/Springrolls. After tax and tip, it's about $50. I think this makes us very good customers. We love their food. So I hate to take away a star, but... Something weird is going on here. The last time we went, they were out of ribs. Which was, of course, the thing I wanted most. I almost cried. Not kidding. This time we went, they were out of pork egg rolls. What the heck? But that's not all. The little containers of chili paste that sit on every table were mostly missing. My dining companion considers this an essential part of his Pho experience, so he went and found a container over in the service area, and brought it to our table. He was happily eating his soup, putting chili on as he went, when one of the servers came over and tried to take it away. He told her he was using it. A few minutes later, another of the servers came over and tried to take it away. He told him he was using it. A few minutes later, frustrated by their appearing every couple of minutes to take the chili, he put a big blob of it in his soup, and handed the rest to one of the servers. He was very unhappy for the rest of our meal. He also noticed them taking one of the other condiments from another table. I don't know if it's related, or just standard procedure, but they were also painstakingly refilling Sriracha bottles with the remnants of other Sriracha bottles. I didn't think anything of it, since I've seen many places do this with ketchup. But when condiments seemed to be in short supply, and other beloved menu items were missing, it made me wonder if the Sriracha was yet another issue. They are very busy and always popular. I don't know why they're struggling, but it seems like they are. It is frustrating, though, when we go in ready to pay $50 for lunch, and everything is amiss. With living in Bellingham for four years during college, Pho 99 was a staple. This is right off Bill McDonald Pkwy and Samish Way and is authentic pho that cannot beat anywhere else in Bellingham. Of course when you stack it up to other places in more metropolitan cities you might thing otherwise but for Bellingham, it's really darn good! The #21 was a staple for me while going to school in Bellingham, and I still stop by this location occassionally when making my way up to BC. My go to is a shrimp spring roll, and the Bun Bo Hue (#21). FYI the Bun Bo Hue doesn't include with the pork hock and pork blood cake that is traditional with this dish - the West Seattle location does though! I've also had the rice and vermacelli dishes in the past which are also good. The staff is extremely friendly and still remembered me in my most recent visit despite having moved away several years ago. It's loud, it's got a cafeteria feel, and it's a liiiiiiittle rushed, but don't let that fool you. The pho comes out steaming hot and there's more than enough to satisfy even a hungry hungry hippo. We also had the summer rolls, and that was a nice appetizer. Definitely some of the better pho in the Whatcom/Skagit area. Everything came out very quickly and the only time we had to wait was to pay the check. They do takeout, which is good for when you're going home and just need some comfort food. The food is always awesome no matter what I have gotten (I've tried something from just about every category) I love the lemon grass pork chops and the egg noodles so don't be scared to branch out of the pho!! This is a location that's super overhyped and is cruising on an old reputation from back when they where good. Their broth is made from a powder and is honestly flavorless, the meat and portion sizes have gone down while prices have rocketed and they have defaulted to poor quality ingredients. While this place used to be a staple here in bham it is no longer good quality and is only still in buissness because of its hype and proximity to campus :(. A new family owned pho place opened near by, the broth is far better and you can see the nice old man cooking it from scratch when you walk in. Go to pho 360 instead, it's literally 50% cheaper and way better. Honestly dissapointed at the major up in prices and drop in quality in the last 5 years at pho 99. read more

A discerning Pho fan should order off the "regular/adventurous" menus only. Some of their options are a little on the mild side to accommodate for the... timid palate. No joke, I have probably been to Pho 99 at least 99 times. I would say this is the most consistent restaurant establishment in existence. Throughout my time living in Bellingham, Pho 99 has always been there for me for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. My usual is a large #9, which is pho with round eye steak, brisket, and fatty brisket. They are generous and consistent with the amount of meat. The menu also has a variety of rice dishes/entrees. This place is often packed during the usual busy times. This is a testament to its success. Despite it being busy sometimes, your food always comes out in a timely manner. Pho 99 definitely has some hype around it, but compared to other pho places I've been, it's totally worthy of the hype! They also have punch cards for a free bowl of pho, of which I filled many. As a family owned establishment, the staff there does not change frequently. I appreciate that the staff has gotten to know myself and my fiance over the years.
