I vote for Asia one being one of the top Asian restaurants in Bellingham. And have eaten here many times since before it was called pad thai. Today a group of six of us decided to have lunch on my nephew's birthday which he got a free meal being we were group of six. I chose the yellow curry with white rice which never disappoints, two of us had the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and chicken, one had Pad Thai and one had cashew chicken and everyone remarked how delicious their dish was except for one pineapple fried rice dish seem to have skimped on veggies and a shrimp was undercooked. The service was average wait and helpful with questions and friendly. The sign posted at the front door read that no sushi was available today as that cook was missing in action. read more

I walked here from Costco on a late Saturday afternoon while waiting for tire service. One of the Costco employees highly recommended this restaurant. It is in a strip mall next to a Starbucks and Vietnamese Pho diner, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The interior is somewhat dingy and dark despite the large picture windows along the storefront. I managed to be seated by one of the windows near the hostess stand. Despite being visible to waitstaff, it took some time before water was delivered to my table or a drink order could be taken. I was glad I took the time to order both water and Pepsi at the beginning because waitstaff slacked on automatically refilling my two beverages even though my water glass sat empty for much of my meal. The menu has both Thai and sushi. I opted for the former and chose green curry with vegetables and a side of jasmine rice. The spice scale is 1-4 stars, so I played it safe by selecting 2. It was just right. I'm glad I didn't choose 3, especially since my drink glasses sat empty and waitstaff weren't around much to make additional requests. The food was plentiful and tasty. It was served piping hot. The vegetables were fresh and crisp. I also ordered black rice pudding for dessert. It was served warm with a dash of coconut milk. It was a delightful. I might come back here to try the Mongolian beef everyone raves about, but only if I'm in the area. read more

This was a pretty horrible experience. First and foremost, the food wasn't the issue. It was delicious as always. What got us is the service - or lack thereof. We were seated pretty quickly by the friendly hostess and water was brought to our table. From there we waited 25 minutes for anyone to come to our table and take our drink and food order. It was fairly busy, but they seemed adequately staffed to handle the lunch rush. When our server finally made her way to our table, she was apathetic and bland. There was no smile or eagerness to provide any service, and she honestly seemed as if we were a bother. We got our food about 20 minutes after ordering, and our waters were empty but they were never refilled. Our server never came back to check on us, and in fact did not return until it was time to give us our check and clear our table. Total tome in and out was close to an hour and a half. We left a very small tip, but honestly it was a courtesy because I don't like not tipping. She truly didn't deserve even that much. We frequent the Burlington location and will continue giving our business to them as they seem to appreciate it. read more

Tastiest healthy meal in town? Asian 1 would get my vote for sure! We have been going here for the past 5 years and service and food quality are consistent high quality. I don't recall ever have any issues here. Tonight Mike was our waiter, very thoughtful, not overbearing and perfect amount of attentiveness. My husband had his current favorite dish, Mongolian Beef (with brown rice in the side). I had the LC (low calorie) 3 / aka Broccoli with Garlic Sauce also with brown rice on the side. Every dish is cooked as it is ordered and spice ratings are one to four stars (four stars being spiciest). The decor is hmm not sure how to describe other than unique and interesting! Came in for dinner about an hour and a half before closing, the place was not dusty this time. The sushi chef must have been gone as there was a sign stating sushi was unavailable right now. It was fairly busy but we were seated right away, unfortunately it was directly under the ac. The coat stayed on most of the visit. It seemed to still take a bit to get food. As a starter we got lettuce wraps and prawns. The lettuce wraps were good, a little sweet. And i never got my hot sauce that i asked for. The prawns did not taste clean, i did not ask where they source them from but i don't think i want to know now. For the meal we shared pineapple fried rice, sweet and sour tempura chicken and garlic pork. The pineapple fries rice tasted as if whatever it was cooked on was covered in old grease. Sweet and sour tempura chicken veggies were cooked good but chicken was a little too cooked. Garlic pork was the best part of the meal great flavor and cooked well. I had to twist my husband's arm to eat here. Since I just had lunch with my co-workers here and found the Pad Thai to be pretty good. The dinner prices are a bit pricey for the quantity of food served. My husband was still hungry after we left, even after ordering the spring rolls as an appetizer. Jerad, our server was pleasant. We were sat in the bar area because "he's the only one working", the hostess said. I ordered the veggie Pad Thai and it was served with chicken. Unfortunately, I had to send it back. Jared was very apologetic and accommodating. When I was looking around the restaurant, I noticed their fake plants are full of dust. I was thoroughly grossed out, I imagined what the kitchen must look like. I sure wish that WA would adopt the restaurant rating policy like CA has. Anyway, when our bill came, Jerad had omitted my meal completely which was nice of him but we asked him that was unnecessary since I had, in fact eaten my meal so the bill was revised. I ordered take out for the Pinepple Fried Rice and Spring Rolls. The rice was overcooked; the prawns were undercooked; the chicken was dry, tough and tasteless; the pineapple offered nothing to entice the flavor and the tomatoes were mushy and disfigured. I think they both came out of a can. The other veggies were also very tired looking. The curry flavoring was disevenly distributed. Good quality food, the Chicken Pad Thai is delicious and fresh. Their Mongolian Beef is the highlight of this restaurant, in my opinion.

Asian 1 transported us to Thailand. As soon as you walk through the door, the wonderful staff warmly welcome you in. We sat at the bar and had a phenomenal time with the bartender Ian who was so personable and gave us some amazing recommendations. He first offered to make us some of his favorite and most popular cocktails, which were all so flavorful and a great way to start off our dining experience. We then started out with the golden prawns as well as the chicken satay which were both phenomenal and perfect dishes to open this entire dining experience with. Ian then helped us with what entrees to get and all were exceptional and beyond our expectations. We had a curry as well as a stir fried dish. On the side, we shared the fried rice which was extraordinary decedent. All in all, Asian 1 is now Asian home. I am fully aware that there are Covid restrictions on restaurants as we eat out nearly daily. But, we put our names in and were told it would be a 30 minute wait and we waited 51 minutes. All the while, we watched as 6 tables full of people cleared out, and none were replaced. We asked if we could please be seated and were told it would be another 40 minutes. In other words, they don't want our business. That's fine, someone else wants our money more. We won't be back. You lost a very loyal customer tonight. Super stupid! read more

All the props to the day shift manager, whose name I wouldn't try to spell, but she made the best bellini ever as my husband & I waited for our order. History: This was our 3rd chance at getting an order right for take out after about a 6 month hiatus from this establishment. hs ordered #33, Pad Thai. 5 star hot, gluten-free, vegetarian. The noodles were the typical pinkish-red one would expect from such a dish; however, the noodles were red ONLY because of the chilis and chili oil. No flavor. No peanut sauce. Seriously, nothing. The lime smelled like ginger for no apparent reason. No egg. He ordered fried tofu & was served fresh tofu, white as snow. I ordered #28, Pad Se-Iew. 2 star hot, gluten-free, vegetarian (I usually order vegan without egg). The noodles were *white* just a touch below the surface. The broccoli was scant & completely devoid of flavor. Oily, for no explainable reason. No egg. My fresh tofu tasted like, well, what the Co-Op didn't sell the day before. We have had problems with this restaurant in the past, both dining-in & take-out. We are done, despite the lovely people that work patiently & serve grumpy customers. The food, though - it's just not enough to throw down money on something ugly on the palate. Update - the owner called while I was typing this out. As a child I would come here every weekend with my family and order the chicken fried rice. The chicken fried rice and the service here was always hit and miss. Sometimes the chicken would be too chewy for me and sometimes the service would be great and sometimes it would be horrible. Overall, I would say I've had more positive experiences here than negative. When the cooks don't mess up the chicken or the rice it usually tastes great! read more

I really like Asian 1. The staff is outstanding and the service is speedy. My husband and I have dined in twice and this is our go to "to go" place. The Honey Chicken is wonderful as its counterpart Honey Prawns. The Phad Thai was ok, and the Orange Chicken was boring, but I'm particular about the flavor of orange and theirs just didn't blow my skirt up. I also order all my items with two stars because I'm a tad whimpy. My husband really enjoys the Garlic dish as well as all the Rice disheds he's had. He also digs the Mongolian Beef. He does 3 Stars and occasionally 4 Stars. I love that I can get a little peanut salad for $2.00 because I prefer to start my meal with one. I came into Asian one when I found myself with a law in time and a craving for Thai food which I've always had pretty good luck with Asian one. This time I ended up in a very large booth because there was nothing for one person and I have pictures of some of the disgusting stuff on the floor where I was sitting. A really good lunch today. My first time here. It was medium busy. The regulars know that there is NO sushi on Monday and Tuesday (I didn't). However, a really good lunch for not a lot of dough. I had the garlic sauce with Chicken. The chicken came cooked with broccoli (a fav of mine). I asked for three star and it was not mind blowing hot just a buzz. Along with the spice buzz I cut down on the spice by washing the meal down with a Caucasian (White Russian to the non Big Lebowski fan). Which was very tasty with a proper amount of Vodka and Kailua (well Done!). A nice plate accompanied with soup and a salad with peanut dressing (a treat). I went to Asian 1 for lunch today. Specifically asked for the gluten free pad Thai lunch special, asked if the peanut dressing is gluten free, I didnt want to have a reaction. The waitress assured me all was safe. The menu also stated the pad Thai was a gluten free option. I don't have a way of knowing exactly what it was, and I don't enjoy giving a bad rating to a place I want to enjoy. Here I am, an hour later and I'm not doing well. DANG IT. Guys, if it has gluten in it, be knowledgeable. This is simply not okay. This is a health hazard. It was absolutely delicious. But now my body has hell to pay. My daughter and I had a late lunch/early dinner here yesterday and we were super-impressed with this restaurant! It's located in a strip mall, on the perimeter, where TJ Maxx and Bed,Bath & Beyond are, but don't be fooled by the unpretentious locale; this place is great! The interior is large and calming, with dark wood tables (some, very large to accommodate large parties), and a central bar (large and fully stocked). Asian art hangs on the walls, including an oversized golden bas-relief of Buddha. Lighting is pleasantly dim. We were greeted and seated promptly, and our server was Maya. She was great! My kid and I were blown away by how incredibly HUGE this restaurant's menu is. There are a gazillion choices. Give yourself time to read the menu. I was most impressed with the "low calorie" section; there are a ton of healthy choices here, some dishes clearly state that they're made with Stevia as a sweetener, and they provide the calorie counts (some at 150 calories!). There are also lots of beverage options (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), and lots of dessert options too (and all looked good). We shared the pineapple fried rice, which contained chicken and shrimp and some vegetables (not a lot of veggies, unfortunately). The dish was huge and despite sharing it, we brought half of it home for later. Huge portion. We were too full for anything else. My daughter also had a sweet tea of sorts and she loved it, saying it was one of the best sweet teas she ever had! and bonus: one free refill on the drink! Wow, the price was already half of what that drink would cost in Vancouver, and here they give a refill, too. Wow. A few reasons why I'm not giving this place 5 stars: -we were here at 3:30 pm and my kid really wanted sushi. Despite having an extensive sushi offering on their menu (2-3 pages!), after we initially ordered some, Maya said that sushi wasn't offered until 4pm and after. We were disappointed. -I ordered plum sauce with my fried rice dish. I was surprised to see that it cost $2 extra on my bill. (Still, the prices here are reasonable and the food portions, huge, so I didn't complain. I was just surprised. Never had plum sauce charged as extra before). -the bathrooms were clean and well-stocked, but when you close the stall doors, there's a prominent sign facing you, warning that the toilets clog frequently and to flush "as much as possible" when there. Yikes! This sign is in each stall. Scary! It might be wise for management here to upgrade their plumbing and not worry customers about their toilets malfunctioning. Other than the above issues, this place was really great, as our dish was filling and tasty and fresh, the service was attentive, and the prices were decent. You can taste how fresh the ingredients are and love knowing that the food is prepared with care and is healthy! I have had their Phad Thai, and is my favorite in all of Bellingham! One this last visit, I ordered the Cashew Delight with Chicken, and it was SO great! I love how they cut the carrots to look kike little flowers :) It's the little things, right? The Thai spicy fried rice is soooooooooo delicious! Everyone should always order this dish when you go to Asian 1. It is so well fried, oniony, garlicky, a bit spicy, and just a little bit of sweetness. You don't really taste the sweetness, but it's there to balance out the flavors. We also ordered the cashew nut deluxe with tofu, and it was good, but a bit too sweet. The flavors are still pretty good, especially when eaten with the rice. I've been here a few times now and I figured I'd leave a review since I just ate. The price of everything is whats turning me off from 5 stars since it was 13.58 for a Pad Thai. The food is definitely delicious, I love the rainbow sushi especially but like I said, quite expensive. Might even suggest the $$$ rating. Also have to add the spice meter goes up to 4 and I ordered a 2 but alas, 0 spiciness. Worth going at least once to get your own opinion. With my experiences I go about twice a year. Went here the other day for the first time not really sure what to expect. We walked through the doors and noticed that the waiting area by the hostess is very small. Luckily we got there before the next rush as the restaurant was already very crowded! We were seated at a table that had benches for seats. They were very cute but sitting in them was a bit difficult for me. They were kind of high and my knees hit the underside of the table which was annoying. Anyways the server came right over and introduced himself and got our drink orders. I got the raspberry mojito. The restaurant was very busy so it took a while to get my drink but the server kept letting know that he had not forgotten. The drink was worth the wait! It was very refreshing and you could taste how fresh the mint and berries were! I ordered the Tom Kah soup as it is my favorite! I have only ever ordered it before at Supon's so I wasn't sure what to expect. The soup was really good but it was very sweet. Way sweeter than it needed to be. Friendly service every time we've been. Some of the better Asian food in Bellingham aside from the very fresh sushi place downtown- Jun Sushi and Bento. Don't sit in the bar area- I swear there's a blind spot there cause every time we have sat there, service is really really slow to the point of annoyance. Yet every time we've sat elsewhere, it's been just fine! Also, never been a fan of the fake plants in there only because they're usually filled with a layer of dust and I'm no clean freak- just not in to look at while eating some great food. I'm a fan of the Pad Thai and Honey Glazed Chicken among many other dishes. The sushi isn't my favorite in town, but it's rarely consistently available, not complaining, just how it is.
