It was our first time here last night - and let me tell you, amazing. We sat in the main bar area after not too bad of a wait for a Saturday night, and were instantly impressed by the atmosphere. Decided to start off with a couple appetizers, the crab dip and shrimp tuscano, and we instantly fell in love. The entrees were just as delicious as the appetizers, I ordered their filet and my husband one of the burgers. Both were cooked perfectly and tasted marvelous. If this place couldn't get any better, the service was impeccable as well. The hostesses at the front were very helpful and as I said, it wasn't a long wait, they seated us right when they could. Our server was named Emily, and she was very attentive and you could tell she knew what she was talking about when it came to their menu and very extensive drink menu as she made a couple of suggestions for us because it was our first time there. The servers around our table from what we could tell seemed just as impressive. We had been hearing about this place constantly from our friends, and we're happy we finally went. My wife and I spotted and decided to try this place while passing through Frederick the other night and we are glad we decided to eat here. From the exterior, it's obvious that this establishment was not a chain which initially prompted me to give it a shot. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the hostess who seated us right away. While we were seated in a booth, we could see the restaurant has a enormous bar and the largest wine and beer menu that I've seen in Frederick. The wife ordered smoke salmon and artichoke dip for appetizers, I ordered a burger for my entree. First, the appetizers were scrumptious, the smoked salmon was moist and yummy. Second, I'm giving this place 5 stars just on the basis of my burger alone! It was simply the best burger I have ever eaten. Cooked over hickory wood, you can actually see, and SMELL, the wonderful smoky wood aroma. The burgers are made from "in house" ground steak and were 10oz huge. Even the pickles are home made. I liked this place so much I created an account just to give it a review! I have lived in Frederick for a few years and live on the north side. Without going downtown there really wasn't a place near my house that I was too fond of. My boyfriend and I decided to give this place a try but were a little worried that because it was so new we would be rolling the dice.... Well I am glad we did! Food was terrific, one of the best meals we have had in awhile, we split the crab dip and I had the crab cake and my boyfriend had the drunken ribeye (I think it was called the drunken ribeye). Our server (Maggie) was a rockstar as well as the rest of the staff that seemed attentive to us even though they were not assigned to us. The game was on and the place was packed but even though they just opened it seemed as though everyone knew what they were doing. Great food and environment from a great local place! Sit in the bar for a casual experience, or make it a date and take a table. Either way the same delicious food is delivered every time. Don't ask what they recommend off the menu, they'll probably say everything is good. They're not lying, I've made it an effort to try different things and I'm never disappointed. That said, the drunken ribeye is hard to go wrong with. And make sure you try the sweet potato casserole... get it as a side or enjoy it as a dessert! The only thing I'd like to see changed, they lack an outdoor seating area. On a nice evening that would be a huge plus. C'mon guys, make it happen!! All you need are a few tables! I have been reading some of the previous posts and don't know why they are so low. This place is great! My family's first experience (about a month ago) was good, although the service was a little slow. We figured out that it MUST have been because it was a Saturday night. On a positive note that night, we were told the wait for a table would be 60-90 minutes....and it was only 35 minutes!. Everything we have tried on the menu has been really tasty and enjoyable. We find the crab dip and spinach/artichoke dip to be our favorites....but they need to bring more chips and bread with them (:). Try the crab "bomb" or prime rib....they're great! If you're in the mood for something a little less pricey, try the hamburgers....they are very juicy and tasty. For desert, try the cookie sundae......it's enough for 3 of us. read more

I've been to Madrones a few times now, and each visit has been a great experience! I've had brunch here twice, and both times the food was delicious and the service was excellent. One of my favorite parts? The mimosas--they bring out a full bottle of champagne with juice on the side so you can mix your drinks just the way you like them. Such a fun brunch touch! I've also been for happy hour, and the drinks and appetizers did not disappoint. Everything we tried was flavorful, and the vibe was perfect for winding down after a long day. Overall, Madrones has consistently delivered good food, good drinks, and great service. I definitely recommend it and can't wait to go back! read more

Tried this place for their "Happy Hour" tonight & we loved this place!! Bartenders were engaging to our group & invited us to try lots of appetizers, which were VERY affordable to say the least & heavily reduced in price. Best wings we've had in Frederick by far & we had 3 of their "double wings" at 20 wings per order. (Their "creamy Italian dressing" is clearly a mystery & delicious with the wings.....) We also tried their smoked salmon appetizer, Chicago spinach dip and their hot crab dip which was topped with warm lump crab with lots of French bread & corn chips.. If you have a big party of more than 7 people don't bother coming here. I never had a chance to try this place, based on good yelp reviews I went in on a Monday to reserve a table for a party of 20 for Friday night. The manager flat out told me "we're too busy to serve you". I told her that's why I'm here in person to reserve a table in advance. She said we only take reservations for a party of 6 or 7 people. Are you for real? Your staff can only handle 6-7 people at a time? Guess what Madrones, I called BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse in Frederick and they are glad to have our business. read more

Very beautiful place...visit for the 1st time and enjoyed every minute of it..our server Stacy was phenomenal!! The food was okay, I had a crabcake sandwich, but the service was horrible. The server could neither recommend anything on the menu, nor could he tell me what he liked. Additionally, the food took a long time to come out and it did not seem like they were overly busy. It's a shame because it has potential. read more

I came with a couple of friends here at Madrones for the first time. The food and service were excellent. I had Asian salmon. It was pretty good but the sauce was a little sweet for me. I think seafood explosion and crab cakes are the most popular. We will come back soon! read more

First off WE ARE IN MARYLAND,. In Maryland Jumbo lump crab cakes are 100% Jumbo lump meat. Properly made crab cakes do not contain leg meat to cut the jumbo lump. So sad y'all bastardized a culinary delicacy. read more
