Have been there for lunch dozens of times but went for dinner the other day and will never go back. I know that sounds harsh but there are just too many other choices in Frederick. Our $44 steak was mostly grisly and fatty and - even worse - the service was appalling to the point of rudeness. We were ignored and had to find other staff to bring our water and drinks. I'm so glad we didn't listen to the dumb yelp reviews talking about the staff not being attentive! Hanna was absolutely amazing and very attentive! Firstly they modified a dish even though it was a weird request. Secondly, my wife had the Asian Salmon and thought it was amazing. Had a disappointing experience at Madrone's tonight. I ordered their Mahi Mahi special and it came to me almost raw. This is on top of the mashed potatoes being unpalatable due to the excessive salt (ended up getting a baked potato instead). The server, Kendra, was wonderful and offered to send the manager over. The manager never showed up so Kendra ended up comping my portion of the meal. It's unacceptable for a manager to not address this. This plate was food poisoning waiting to happen. read more

We started ordering from Madrones during COVID. The food was excellent! I became a true fan. The last two visits to Madrones (one take out and one lunch dine in) was lack luster. Mediocre. I went to lunch this afternoon at Madrones. When perusing the menu, I saw the picture of a beautiful crabcake, so I decided to order that. Not only was there no comparison, I'm not sure what the patty on that bun was. My closest guess was a fried tuna fish salad patty. It was mushy and tasteless. The bright spot was our waitress. She was so sweet and efficient, even when my sister was a little rude to her (nothing our waitress did). I would expect a so called crabcake like that in Idaho, where they don't know any better. But in Maryland? Are you kidding me? And if you're proud of it the way you serve it, then put a real picture of your crabcake on your menu. read more

Made the mistake of ordering the seafood daily special. I had forgotten this is what is generally done with aging food. I thought the scallops tasted a little strange; but I failed to speak up. I was abruptly awakened with severe chills during the night with an eventual high fever and vomiting twice. I fortunately reduced my fever with Tylenol; but had to suffer from the lack of sleep all day at work. Someone at work remarked they had the same problem at this location. Completely ruined our family's night on a day we were celebrating a birthday!!! I am absolutely livid! We called two days ahead to make reservations and to make sure they could accommodate our party of 15 on a Saturday evening. I even asked more than once to make sure! We were confidently told that they dont take reservations but to call back the morning of when they open to put our name down. We called the day of, shortly after they opened, and was now told that they do not take call ahead for a party of 15 after 5pm but that we could walk in and wait. We were told conflicting information not once but TWICE that lead 15 people to have to find another dinner location last minute on a Saturday evening. Unfortunately, you didn't get the add-ons like extra shrimp and a crab cake for takeout. That was okay but I wished they had said that on the online order before we ordered. The Jumbalaya wasn't that spicy but it was okay. The sausage was good & spicy just the way it should be. My husband had the crabcake. He said it was good with little fillers. I've been coming here since it first opened, and unfortunately had the worst experience here thus far last weekend. After being told we could make a reservation but we should call ahead, we did. When we called to do this, we were told that we could not this for whatever reason. (There's obviously some miscommunication behind the host stand) Upon arrival, we were given a 15-30 minute wait time, which was texted to a person in our group. After waiting 45 minutes, a member of our party went up to ask when we would be sat and we're told "well I told you it would be up to an hour" with an unnecessary amount of attitude. After some back and forth with this unprofessional hostess, a manager came over an insisted she could seat us right away at a high top. (If this was an option the whole time, why did it take 45 minutes?) After she sat us and insisted that we could receive "a few appetizers or desserts on the house" and said a server would be with us shortly. We sat there for 25 minutes and still no one came up to greet us. The same manager that we had dealt with in the beginning walked passed our table at least 5 times after we were sat and never checked back, even though we didn't even have waters on our tables. I then proceeded to watch another group sit at a high top a few tables down from us, and get a server almost immediately. As a person with a background in the restaurant, I understand that sometimes there are hiccups in the process. But this whole situation to me was absolutely mind boggling as they let a 7 top walk out of the restaurant, well over a $200 check. (And no one tried to stop us) If I were a manager here, I would be concerned high concerned with the way the front of house staff is currently functioning. read more

This restaurant is big on flavor. We had a great dinner here on a Thursday at about 5:30. We had no reservation but we were seated immediately. I had a very flavorful apple cider margarita. You could definitely taste the tequila. The menu has a lot of great choices. We started with the hot and spicy tiger shrimp. These are lightly breaded and they have a sweet and spicy sauce. One $13 order looks like a complete chinese restaurant entree without the rice. It was delicious but too much for 2 people. The have a red blend called Conundrum that was outstanding. Dani, our waitress did a great job and her recommendations were on point. BTW they have half price wine on Wednesdays. I had Salmon Teriyaki for dinner. I requested mashed cauliflower instead of mashed potatoes and it was great. The vegetables were cooled nicely and they were crisp and colorful. It was a great dish. My wife had the crab cake sandwich and their crab cakes are the real deal. Nothing stringy. All lumped crab and very flavorful. Even with an appetizer, a premium cocktail and a bottle of fine wine our bill was no amore than $110. Not bad for nowadays when everything is so expensive. The food, drink and service were excellent. Its a classy place and the menu has everything you could want- even prime rib. The owner, Chip is usually there and our server says he is well- liked by the staff. That says something. Thanks Chip! I ask for a table for 1 and was told there was a 25 minute wait I could see 5 empty tables from where I was standing but I was in no hurry so I waited.... I sat there for 30 minutes watched them seat multiple walk in parties with no reservation and finally got fed up and left! Totally rude no excuse for that behavior. OK...wanted to update my review...see told you guys I would, lol This go round I had the lobster bisque as a starter which was very creamy & had huge chunks of lobster....excellent! For the main course I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries. The burger came with pickles, lettuce, tomato and onions. The brioche bun was nice & soft. I ordered my burger medium well & it was perfect...not to dry or to juicy. The bacon was cooked just right & the cheddar cheese added a great flavor. The burger was so big, I had to cut the burger in half because it was huge. I was only able to eat one half & decided to take the other half home but ended up leaving it at the restaurant (insert sad face) I tasted a few of the other menu items: My cousin ordered the Caesar salad which I took a few forkfuls; the sundried tomatoes were an excellent addition. My mom ordered her usual roasted chicken but subbed the mashed potatoes for the roasted brussels sprouts (didn't taste those, not a fan of brussels sprouts ) but she seemed to enjoy it very much. She also ordered a side order crab cake, I tasted a forkful; I think I'll order the crab cake sandwich next time. Last thing, they have a chocolate cake w/ ice cream that is AWESOME!!! The cake is so moist it just melts in your mouth. The ice cream is just an added bonus.
