Our favorite restaurant on Orcas fabulous views and great food wonderful cocktails killer blat

If you sit out on the deck, the setting makes the experience worth it. My son's fish & chips were burnt, but fine for a 7 year old. I had the Ravioli with Spinach and Feta, which I would recommend. We had Bruschetta for an appetizer, was very good and I would also recommend it. My wife had the Filet Mignon. It was cooked correctly, but the flavor was off and the garlic mashed were plain and lacked flavor. Very kid friendly and the service was good. read more

I thought the 3rd time would be a charm, but it wasn't. I really want to like this place-so I keep trying.... but the service and food just don't do it for me. Each time, the service was slow. Servers walked by us when we were clearly waiting for service for way too long. We didn't seem to exist to them. The last time, they brought out my 82 yr. old mothers plate very last when she ordered the same thing as my son's girlfriend who got hers well in advance. To make matters worse, the two dishes didn't even taste the same. It has a great view from the small deck, but not inside. It's dark and hot. It's overpriced for what you get. My son's fish and chips were pretty good. But nothing else impressed us. read more

I dont give too many bad reviews but gotta do it here. Place was moderately busy, about 130, after the lunch rush. We got seated, waited a bit long to get a chance to order. Ordered. Then 30 minutes later (about 40 at table total, so far) no drink, no food. Everyone around us who arrived later finishing up! OK, they lost our order. But then a diet coke comes out finally, its completely flat. Lots of excuses. Machine doesn't work etc. So why serve it? Then, server acts surprised that wife didn't want it. So I ask about our food. Wife ordered a bowl of soup and I ordered a sandwich. Someone brings soup. No sando. I ask and I'm told that they thought soup should be a first course, so I'm supposed to watch my wife eat her soup and she my sandwich-later. At a tavern? My son and I came in last summer while visiting the island. We would have come back every day except for they were very busy and the other places were not good at all.... Great view. Great service. Reasonable prices. Everything we tried was amazing. My son decided he couldn't possibly eat salad without shrimp again. If you only get to go to one place, make it here. read more

Hands down the best veggie burger!! Their other burgers are awesome aloe. My husband is a burger lover and he was the happiest man ever!! The FF aren't that good and the onion rings are ok. But the fish and chips were so good my son who is the pickest eater EVER even loved them!! read more

So probably the best crab cakes I have ever eaten! They were pretty much all Dungeness crab with some panko crust on the top and bottom. The server was wonderful and suggested the perfect cocktail (sparkling cocktail) for my clams and crab cakes. They were very attentive and took excellent care of us. My 10yo and 12yo loved their BLTA and chicken fingers. I would definitely recommend this place and do not leave here without ordering the crab cakes. read more

We arrived on a Friday night for dinner and quite pleased we could be seated. However, we quickly realized how loud the restaurant was so much so that I couldn't even hear my daughter speaking. The service was slow. My salad came out long before my husband's chowder. He said it was delicious but at $12 a bowl I thought we were in NYC! Dinner was good but also pricey for what was on the plate. Did I mention the 4 locals at the table across from us? LOUD, drinking and cussing oblivious to anyone, esp a family. I did mention to the hostess/manager who spoke to the men. They eventually left. We're usually easy going, so I often take other reviews on substandard service critically and that usually turns out fine for us. Not in this case. We came in for a later lunch (around 3), and there were 2 servers plus the bartender working. Counting the group of 4 that walked in just before us, a total of 6 tables in the small restaurant. Took 7 minutes to be greeted, another 10 for drinks (2 draft beers and the bartender was our server), and 15 to order after that. All because we were waiting on the staff, not that we were indecisive. When my partner's beer glass was empty, another server collected it, but didn't ask if he wanted another (our food hadn't arrived, obviously we weren't done). It was another 10 minutes before our server came by to ask if he wanted another. Food was good and pricey ( maybe a little higher than the rest of the island), but the service ruined any fair shake I tried to give this place. Wouldn't go back, but if you lucked into a good server on a different shift, would understand the positive reviews. read more

Absolutely love this place! We went there twice on our stay at the island. We sat at a table in the bar both times. The bartender, is amazing! Great drinks, great fast, attentive service. The breath taking view, great service and The delicious food will definitely have us coming back when were in town again. read more

Used to love this place, we always make a point of going for their crab bisque every time we visit. After a very long wait for the ferry due to fog (almost 2.5 hours late) we were starving and made Madrona Grill our first stop. Crab bisque is no longer on the menu and the prices seemed high, even for Island prices...lunch is a better. The food is good, but not that good. Our waiter told us the owners just changed the menu the day before. We politely complained (we try very hard to always be nice and not be demanding and rude "tourists") but our waiters attitude took a bit of a nosedive. Maybe if they put the crab bisque back on the menu we'll give it another chance...and they lost a fantastic guy when One-eyed Jack left. He was nice to everyone. read more

Gena, a very lovely person with a lovely smile, was our waitress. She was wonderfully kind. One order was a steak with added prawns on the side with a house salad with balsamic vinaigrette. My order was the crab cakes and the Caesar salad with a side of wild Sockeye salmon and a cup of crab bisque. Our food was delicious overall. The steak was tender. I recommend ordering the Salmon rare to medium rare because unlike farmed Salmon there is no fat on Sockeye Salmon so it is easy to over cook and dry out the meat. Don't get me wrong the Salmon had very good flavor. Crab cakes were excellent. The bisque was good as well. Salads were fresh and very good with appropriate amount of toppings. Steve, the bartender, made us a Mai Tai with Grenadine creating a unique flavor that Kauai should consider adding. read more

The view! Amazing. The food? Memorable. We had the crab cakes and split the sockeye salmon sandwich with garlic fries. The beer on tap was great. The prosecco cocktail was refreshing. The bartender was entertaining to talk to. This place was fantastic. The portions are big so you may want to split. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place. We were a bit reluctant based on the reviews but decided to try it because of the views. We are glad we did! Susan Waited on us and the food was very good. Husband and daughter each had a house salad and split the ribeye. It as all very good. Myself and a friend split the Caesar salad. I like light dressing, but there was hardly any and we could only find four small pieces of shaved Parmesan cheese. Lettuce was fresh though. I had the seafood pomodoro and could only eat about half. It was delicious with a ton of seafood-salmon, scallops and prawns. My friend had the ravioli du jour, which as fresh salmon with mixed cream cheese filling. Portions were very generous. read more

We have lived on Orcas for many years. When the madrona opened it was a welcomed addition to Eastsound. We would make a point of stopping by for a decent meal and a Mai Tai. One eyed Jack knew how to make them just right. It has been over a month since we were there and I could tell there have been some disappointing changes. The burgers were mediocre and the garlic fries cold. I ordered my favorite Mia Tia and YUCK! Best burger on the island. Juicy, good flavor. My wife had the salmon fettuccine and said it was very good as well.

Horrible service. Had a party of seven. They told us it would be impossible to seat us. This was even after we said we didn't mind waiting until a table became available. The hostess commented that she new the restaurant better than us and it would be impossible to seat us. Excellent space and one of the best views of the water from a restaurant on Orcas. The food is always really good. Service has been questionable, except when I've been seated at the bar instead of a table. Surprised to see the 3 star average for this restaurant. Perhaps consistency? We had a consistently outstanding experience here for lunch. Beautiful view above the water on a sunny afternoon. The beer battered fish and chips was as good as we've had, the cod was cooked perfectly, the beer batter remained light and crispy to the last bite, the tartar sauce was not chunky like some restaurants serve, the fries were hot and plentiful, and the caraway seed slaw was well dressed and creamy. Our server told us that all of their items are prepped in-house, and the quality shows. The blue cheese and shrimp salad too was well dressed, and the toasted almonds were a nice surprise. Awesome Bloody Mary!!! But calamari was not great, too much breaded. And kinda slow service.

What a disappointment! Service was terrible. After sitting watching other people getting waited on who came in after us we stopped somebody and asked for our waitress. The bartender came over and asked for our orders and when we asked questions about the menu she had no idea and made something up that we even knew was inaccurate. No one came over after we were served to see if we needed anything. The fish and chips tasted like something out of the frozen food section. My wife asked for crisp bacon on her hamburger and it came out very underdone.! I will save the view was lovely looking out at the water. read more

This is more of a pub than a restaurant. It has a friendly atmosphere (a lot of locals in the house) and is right over the water. A woman at the next table recommended the steamers. They were excellent -- as was the stein of Kilt Lifter Ale. The fried oysters weren't so hot. I should have known better than to order them in a bar. I thought they were pan fried -- they tasted deep fried. But, I had a good time and I would go back. read more
