Madrona Bar & Grill has excellent views right on the water, making it perfect for a nice day on the patio or even a rainy day spent inside overlooking the bay. The Salmon Tacos were really good -- each came with a nice piece of grilled salmon. The Cheesesteak was decent, not the best I've ever had, but that's fair given we're a long way from Philly. The beer selection was also solid and paired well with the meal. Overall, it's a great spot for lunch or a sunset visit when you're on Orcas Island -- good food, great views, and a relaxing atmosphere.

Clam chowder, crab bisque. Grilled salmon and goat cheese sandwich.

It was our first visit to the island. We went all over. Loved it. We wanted to try next door (they weren't open the whole time we were there), but found this place. Awesome views, awesome service. They weren't unfortunately out of oysters. The clam chowder was really good and crab bisque was the best I've ever had, and I've had a lot. Overall great place. So, we indeed came again the next day to try more. It was great. Can't wait to come back to the island and do more. Thanks.

Dropped in for lunch. Service was quick and checked in regularly. The views from the dining area are spectacular. Food came quickly and was good. Bisque was my favorite but everything else was good as well.

The views are unbeatable at Madrona Bar & Grill! I heard great things about the halibut fish and chips but unfortunately they were out of it when we visited so we opted for the cod fish and chips- which were amazing as well. Our food came out quickly and hot. The menu has many options for wine, cocktails, and beers in addition to the great food!

Lauren,the best waitress ever.

Last knight, we celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary. We call ahead and made a reservation with a special request of being seated by a window with a view. The table that was given to us, had the most incredible and breathtaking view. Our server's name Lauren L., Gave us a wonderful experience. Her service exceeded our expectations. Thank you Lauren!! Next time we visit the island make sure that we'll look for you. Food was out of this world.

I came for lunch. The place was practically empty so I was able to sit outside no problem! Absolutely stunning views. Decided to have a burger. It wasn't the best I've ever had. The atmosphere and vibes definitely a factor in things tasting good. Hot and fresh. Cooked a bit well for me. Despite that I enjoyed my lunch. The amber style beer was refreshing too. I finished inside with a smaller pour of a cider. Holly the bartender, hostess and waitress was super friendly and sweet. Street parking was a bit tricky. But with patience I found a close up spot. Happy eating. SYOY.

A solid 3.5 We were able to walk up and get reservations for a table of 4 and come back in 25 minutes. So that was pretty awesome. Our server was very friendly and pretty attentive so definitely no complaints there. Great views from the restaurant but from where we were sitting there was also a few flies buzzing around. So that was not the most pleasant. We ordered a few appetizers and I'd definitely say pass on the oysters and hummus. The hummus was thick and chunky and not very palatable. A delicious hummus should be creamy and spread easy. The oysters were alright but were just missing some seasoning or something. The coconut shrimp was the best appetizer but nothing I haven't had anywhere else. For my drink I ordered a double fruit margarita and it was okay. A little heavy on the citric side so I didn't finish. Now for my main course, I went with their nightly special which was a coconut curry mussel and this was most definitely a 5/5. It was creamy, slightly spicy, packed full of flavor and the mussels were sweet and fresh. The dish was everything I was hoping for. It absolutely made up for everything I lacked in the appetizers. My husband ordered the portabella burger and I must say when that came out we were all slightly disappointed about how small the mushroom was and my husband noted that his mushroom wasn't juicy and was a little on the dry side. Overall a decent experience for the limited options on the island.

We came here for some drinks and appetizers. We sat at step top by the bar. Mason the bartender was so knowledgeable and attentive. We enjoyed the spectacular view and some delicious drinks. Very historic building. Would definitely come back.

Fresh fruit margarita.. sucks!

There's always seats if you don't go in the summer, as I see some people brave the cold and enjoy their drinks right outside, but we wanted to be warm so we took one of the last tables and eventually moved to the bar seats. We happened to go during the Orcas Island Film Festival so we decided to try some cocktails in that theme. One of them was the Harlem Renaissance which was inspired by Once Upon a Time in Harlem, and we opted for a $2 add on of smoke which was well worth the additional flavors. This cocktail was really interesting as it comes with a candy cig with ashtray for a fun little drink The other we got was Frou Frou which is fruity and light, inspired by "Coward". I found this refreshing yet not as innovative as the Harlem Renaissance. One slight miss is that some ice were a bit too crushed so it dilutes the drink quite a bit, but the drink is so flavorful and strong that I didn't really mind all that much for this drink For fun, we also tried the Underberg which is a digestif bitters which is incredibly bitter but herbal, kind of like a jagermeister. It apparently helps with digestion if you overconsume. It was an experience and worth the $5

The filling had ZERO flavor and tasted like it came out of a can. This week? I thought. SIGH....ok. I'll try again. I ordered the chicken wings. Now. This is probably personal preference. But, I tore off the skin trying to get away from that weird sauce. It was so sweet! Think I ate two naked pieces of chicken and called it. That all said? The restaurant is right on the water so the views are great. The staff is kind and VERY attentive. Can't say I won't try again. Maybe next time I'd try the wings without sauce. Or! I'd like to try their Irish egg rolls :)

New Leaf Cafe is the nicest restaurant in town that was open those days. TLDR: Breakfast is better than dinner here. Dinner items: - Beet salad - excellent - Clam Pasta - it was good - Vegan Roaster Cauliflower with hummus and harissa sauce - cauliflower was a bit mushy for my taste. - Cod - it was ok, pricey for what it was - Shishito peppers - good - French onion soup - too salty - side of potatoes - delicious Breakfast: - smoked salmon bagel - so good. loved the house-made bagels and house smoked salmon and heirloom tomatoes. This is an elevated smoked salmon bagel. - Mushroom egg omelette - also incredibly delicious. The potatoes that came with it were also so delicious Highly recommend both breakfast entrees. If you had to choose, I would prioritize breakfast over dinner here. Breakfast is also more lovely to enjoy the view and the stained glass and art inside. Although breakfast at Brown Bear Bakery is also wonderful. Service was good for the most part. During one dinner, there was a very long wait between appetizer and our entrees.

The chicken liver with summer tomatoes was magnificent, even if they needed an extra slice of sourdough to finish the plate. The star was the roasted pork belly. I've had many in my day but this was the crown jewel of belly's - succulent, tender inside and crispy edges, and the flavor was off the chart delicious. Rigatoni with lamb did not disappoint and pasta was cooked to perfection. Saved room for chocolate mousse and it was excellent and not too sweet. Wine pairings supported the wonderful meal. Having made reservations beforehand, we were really excited to try this place out. The servers who greeted us were really nice. The restaurant had a beautiful dark interior that gave off a cozy steakhouse vibe. They even offered to take my coat, how nice of them! Despite the hospitality, the food did not really live up to expectations. I got the birria, and while it was okay, it definitely wasn't worth the price I paid. My girlfriend's scallop crudel was almost as pricey and it did not even fill her up. I believe the bill for our whole meal (including a mocktail) was over $80. This was definitely not worth the price point paid for, considering that we were not fully satisfied with that meal. Regardless, many thanks to the Monti staff for having us.

Now they probably renovated or moved locations because there is a menu for Matia Lounge (a la carte) and another menu in a tasting menu format, and there used to be a large dining table with a piano and some paintings. This time, we were able to get a reservation in a communal table right at opening to ensure we have enough time to enjoy the meal before the 7:30pm ferry back home. This time, the food felt fairly standard, just with a bit more complexity across a wide list of ingredients used in a dish. The potato mochi was good and I liked the texture. The schnitzel was good but felt small for $50 - there are fermented peaches, pears, etc that add depth to the dish but it wasn't impressively executed if I were to compare this dish to a similar dish at this price point elsewhere. The cocktails we got were really strong and delicious, so that was worth the slight splurge of $20 each as they use local ingredients and other ingredients that are generally hard to find elsewhere so I wouldn't be able to make something close to it at home. Service was good as they checked up on us a few times, helped expedited the order as we let them know about our ferry time, and ensured that we still had a relaxing dinner experience in a constrained timeframe.

We decided to walk-in as the website mentions bar and outdoor seating are first come first served so we were optimistic. However, when we showed up right at 4pm, the bar seats are all taken (only 4-5 seats, 2 parties at a time) and so we got put into a 2 hr 10 min waitlist for next seating, as they don't do outdoors in October (but the weather is so nice... and nowhere on the website mentioned no outdoor seating after summer). But this kind of worked out on our part as we didn't actually want to eat at 4pm. We got the Houlme Dog, MRF pizza with Norcino salami, an orange wine, and dessert (only option is rotating daily - we got brown butter ice cream with grilled chocolate). The Houlme Dog is a fun, casual meets fine dining hot dog with crispy potato and kale and caramelized onion jam. It's good but definitely nowhere near $16. It's just a fun way to enjoy a hot dog with play on textures MRF pizza was a green pizza - it's a kale sauce so it's quite interesting while the others were either red sauce or a white pizza as in olive oil base. The salami add-on was $7 but worthwhile as it definitely made the pizza much more filling and perfect to share for 2 people The dessert is pretty good, a bit simple on presentation but the flavors win. The grilled chocolate had a little bit of smoky flavor to it, and the ice cream itself has a nice small bit of savory, kind of like a salted caramel Their wines are good but expensive, but they were willing to split 1 glass into 2 For a restaurant at this price point, I expected a little more on service. When we arrived back 2 hrs later, we made eye contact a few times with the host/server but they kind of ignored us and took their sweet time doing other stuff than checking us in. I feel like they could've been more efficient seating tables as during our dining, which is around 6pm which should be prime time, they somehow failed to fill the other bar seats the whole duration of our ~2 hr meal, despite overhearing that 5 parties were in the waitlist and someone coming at 6pm would probably not have luck getting seated for the night. Also, when we finished the water jug, they took it away to fill a bunch of them but they never sent a full jug back to us. Even bigger miss was when I finished my water cup and a little loudly placed my cup on the counter and the server saw me, but they still missed the memo to give us water until I had to finally ask. All these little details should be expected as a bare minimum for such a nice restaurant. I had to take off a star for this, despite a strong 5 stars on food
