This bar is missing its front wall. I wonder how they deal with the rain and snow. There's a backyard which is lovely. All in all, very open airish. Definitely has a romantic vibe. But no one will come by and serve you. You gotta haul ass to the bar. They have a decent selection of wine here. I saw Gewurtzraminer on the menu, and ordered. The bartender said "wtf is that?". It's telling that this place gets pretty middle-of-the-road reviews: there is nothing repulsive OR magical about Macri Park. It's a cute place with unique decor, a diverse crowd, and friendly service. I haven't experienced the outdoor space OR the bathroom (crucial, crucial element of the bar review is the bathroom, duh, what was I thinking) so maybe I missed out on something truly magical/horrifying... but this place just seems pretty chill, yet... kind of bland? Definitely a decent option if you have friends visiting the 'hood who don't want to wander far from the G/L stop and don't feel like entering the coolness contest that is Union Pool or the "spot the old man most likely to die of cirrhosis in the next half hour" contest that is Subway Bar. So, it's comfortable, friendly, decent drink selection and prices, but it's just somehow missing SOMETHING I can't quite identify... A personality? A bounce house? Unicorns? It had been years since my last trip to Williamsburg and one of my local friends wanted "one more drink" (always a great idea) so we went to this local watering hole. As we walked past Union Pool and Barcade it made me wonder how awesome this place must be if we were skipping two of the best places in the neighborhood. Any place that serves free food if you drink is my type of place and last night they were having a free bbq in the back. I ordered an Ommegang Hennepin. After the foam died down, the bar tender topped it off with STELLA ARTOIS. What. the. Hell. Pay attention! It wasn't even busy at all. It was mid-day. The atmosphere was pretty nice here, but this got me a little heated. Plainly, I have a pretty obvious bias, but alas, this was my experience here, and I consider such an action, intentional or no, desecration upon an excellent craft brew. Boo. read more

I had walked by Macri Park many times and wondered about it. I finally went in a couple months ago and have been back many times since. It's got a great happy hour, sometimes running til 9p and featuring $3 well drinks. $3 Miller High Lifes are always on special throughout this dimly red-lit bar. Also, during the summer, the patio is open and it's huge and open pretty late. All the bartenders are cool as hell and you can't go wrong with the old style movies on the TV's. What can be said? if you have not been here and or have not even heard of their great happy hour you need to get your but to macri (hp hr 3-8), $3! Although the music and sound system and restrooms are in desperate need of an upgrade this place is great (around 3-5 maybe 6pm). its ok. doesn't seem to know what kind of place it wants to be-- too nice to be a dive, too dive-y to be nice. I used to come here a lot when I lived in that dorm-like apartment complex just beyond the BQE. It just worked out that Macri Park was in between my place and my friend's, who I'd meet on a weekly basis to have our heart-to-hearts in the backyard or one of the booths depending on the weather. I liked the space for its oddness - it's has a spacious floor with intimate booths, its dark yet sleek feel. I was fond of their backyards, and it was never crowded on the weeknights I'd go. But I always felt there was something missing. The charming local bartenders? The drink specials? The ambiance? It felt a bit hollow and a tad stand-offish (or was that just the DJ?). I don't know what, but suffice to say, it's a decent place to have heart-to-hearts with your friends. read more

Macri Park is one of the only reasons I go to Williamsburg anymore (I prefer to hermit around my hood in Bushwick the rest of the time). B movies with naked chicks and subtitles? Check. $5 gin and sodas? Check. Hasidic men who drink too much and chat you up? Check, check, check. The bar is super conducive to conversation, so coming here alone isn't creepy. I've met a whole host of Williamsweirdos here by accident. My favorite bartender, Anthony, doesn't work there anymore, but I still dig it. Check it out for the Sunday night drink and draw. read more

The policy in this *lavatory* is to round up coats from bar stools and extort money from customers to get them back. I left my jacket on my bar stool and at the end of the night discovered it was gone. The coat check guy had taken it - and now demanded $2 to get it back. The dude was literally holding my jacket for ransom. That's got to be illegal, right? If I wanted to use the coat check I would have chosen to do so. Stealing jackets for a few crummy dollars? As a neighbor to this establishment I have to say they're not respectful when it comes to beer cigarettes or noise levels. Beer bottles thrown on our roof, cigarettes in our backyard, tenants complaining about atrocious noise level. Constant aggravation. Great during the spring when a cool breeze is blowing (or it's pouring out and you want to still "feel outside", minus the rain). BBQ's on the back patio during the weekend with free food, always a plus. Laid-back, friendly bartenders, also a plus. Purse hooks under the bar, bar stools that are decently comfortable and a fair share of booths to lounge around in with a group of friends complete the decor. Overall, I can't complain. It's a good laid-back spot to visit, but nothing overwhelming to write home about. read more

I love this place. On a Saturday night the crowd is great, the DJ is always on point ("spinning" a great mix of dance, hiphop, 80s, 90s, etc), and the drinks are cheap for a Williamsburg hot spot! Came here for The Ruapul season 9 viewing party and had one of the worst experiences of my entire life. Prior to the event The bar was nice, $3 beer, $4 wine, my friend and i were having a good time but once 7:30 hit it was all down hill. Our bar stools were literally taken from under our asses. He bar filled up so fast with the rudest gays, i was PUSHED out of the way so a man could get to the bar. This post could be a mile long the evening was AWFUL and mostly due to the shear amount of people the bar let in and THEY DIDNT TURN OFF THE MUSIC!!!! Where do I even begin? I have been a patron of this bar for years, not too regularly but enough to get a proper feel. It's strange how I've never had the best time here but I always try to talk the group of friends I'm with to at least stop in for one drink. Or two. That ends after last night. Somehow, relatively early in the night, my debit card I opened a tab with magically disappeared. This has never happened to me before so maybe I am a bit jaded and unaware how often this may happen (as the manager was so keen to try and explain) but the situation went from bad to worse very quickly. And this was when I went up for my second drink, mind you. The staff was apologetic but the manager who was serving my second drink told me "you get to drink for free." Who says that? They "lost" my card that I gave to them and he's trying to make light of the situation with a free drink? As if people come to this place for their expansive cocktail menu or something (they don't have one, FYI). Who owns this place? The bar isn't that big so I seriously am calling shenanigans on them "losing" my card. I tried my best to contain my frustration but when I went to the bartender who opened my tab I stood and waited while he served as many patrons as possible around me to try as long as possible to avoid speaking to me. When he finally did, it was very bizarre. He took me to the side and just kept telling me that he doesn't want to speak to me if I'm yelling at him before I even said anything. I will no longer recommend this bar to anyone, I don't care how inexpensive the drinks are. This place honestly just makes me miss TnT. Thank you for nothing, Macri Park. See you never. UPDATE: In my filtered Facebook messages that, like most people, I rarely check is a message from the manager. After making me feel like I had done something wrong for complaining about the loss of my card, the manager sent me a message telling me that they found my card on the floor behind the bar. I LOVED Macri Park Bar up until all the mostly straight staff were fired without notice after providing a safe atmosphere for gay and straight alike. As far as I know, the one gay staff member was kept on. I have never been to a cooler bar that felt like family. It was like the last episode of Cheers when they shut down on Thursday, August 20th, 2015. From what I've read on Gothamist and Next, the owners let go of their staff without any severance or notice, not even offering positions at other bars that they own. Who would want to patronize an establishment that treats their employees like lightbulbs? The loyal regular following was HUGE. This isn't a gay v. straight issue. It's about respecting the people who pour in the money, the community they serve, and vibe that made Macri more than a "tolerant" place: people were loved, "lives happened", people met and got married, got hired; real human connections were made. There used to be events like drink and draw Tuesdays, drag night "bitchy bingo" on Monday night, stand up Sunday, karaoke night once a month on Wednesday, trivia night. Great DJs spun. Neighborhood people and even next door neighbors and I myself would bring food to share with bartenders and strangers alike. Any suspicion that theft was afoot is absolutely absurd... security and most of all solidarity between bartenders and patrons, and the bouncers was TIGHT. Most altercations were handled smoothly and without violence. I suppose an owner who wants to clean house so s/he can open a gay bar, (which is absurd, because patrons determine that, not owners) will fire perfectly good workers to cater to the gaybourhood. Gay people came here regardless of what day it was. Some gay friends of mine are outraged, because the staff were friends, and now they are jobless. Overall, it was what a real pub is: a public house, a den, or living room for the neighborhood. I rode back and forth from my house in Fresh Meadows to Macri Park Bar about 4-7 nights a week until they closed. That's 20 miles round trip, not including my daily ride to service my clients, landlords, and leads, (I'm a licensed real estate salesperson). I'd go after work until closing time at least half the time. I made SO many friends, met some real sweethearts, followed business leads, found clients from my network of Macri friends... Macri Alumni was huge! *****Don't give your money to businesses that treat their employees like trash! Don't be fooled that just because it's self-proclaimed gay bar that they are ethical business persons! Real neighborhoods are made up of neighbors, straight or gay, and we hang in bars that feel like family.***** We've taken the Macri Alumni to Lady Jaye, Redd's, and are considering others, especially if they have an open space in the back, or space up front to puff and drink while people watching/ogling/gawking on the street. That was the best part, besides there being 3 bathrooms. Wow, what a great time it WAS, over at Macri Park Bar. It was a place where everybody knew your name, where you could dance, even if it wasn't a DJ night, where they played awesomely bad B-movies on Netflix and great shows as well. All the bartenders had such a distinct style and eclectic taste in music. Closing time was a ritual for those who were close to the bartender... few were allowed to chill for a bit and it was great being the selected "cool" few. Yes, it was a dive, but it was one that had a lot of Love, and that's so goddamn rare these days... the search for the next incarnation of Macri begins!!!! :-) read more

A bar that's trying to be Metropolitan but didn't really do a great job. It's an unusual setting...like you're being held captive in a backyard shed. The drinks took 10 minutes from order-delivery, and the bartender took his sweet time as he chatted up his friends, then forgot our order. Only a few people there on a Thursday evening. No one was dancing, or mingling, just kind of sitting there. If not for the music and the rainbow flag it'd just be a sad straight person bar. With slow service and not much of a scene I'm not sure why you'd come here over the hundred other options in the area, or better yet, not leaving your home. read more

I'm hesitant to write a review about this bar for purely selfish reasons. I want it to remain a secret hideaway that the droves of super hip people won't overcrowd every weekend. However, thats not fair to the business so I grudgingly write this review. Dammit. After walking around Williamsburg for a while, my companion and I were pointed to this bar by a guy smoking outside the Alligator Lounge. We asked for something quiet, he said try Macri Park. He gave directions and we went on our way. When we got close, we realized that the smoking guys idea of quiet is probably a few decibels above ours. It started drizzling as we approached the place so we stopped in to have 1 drink anyhow. 1 drink ended up turning into 5 hours. The first hint that this place was something special was the cool Julia-Roberts-if-she-dyed-her-hair-dark-brown look alike bartender. When I asked for a margarita, she smushed some limes for the juice in a manner that would put a Hot Dog on a Stick employee to shame. When my companion complimented her fine grinding skills, she laughed and continued to make me one of the best margaritas I've had in a while. After the 2nd drink, we migrated from the bar to one of the very cozy booths. I don't mean cozy in the real estate sense (tiny) I mean cozy in the wow I have leg room and the seat is padded sense. A few more people started trickling in as the rain started pouring outside. The pretty decent DJ had to leave so the bartender put in her iPod and played a nice mix of different genres of music. 3 drinks later, mother nature called. I mentally steeled myself for what I thought would be the typical bar bathroom experience. You know, dark, dirty, smelly, gross. I was pleasantly surprised by the clean, decently lit, much bigger than the average bathroom. Never underestimate the importance of a good bathroom. At around 3am, the rain stopped and the crowd thinned. When there were only about 10 people left in the place, we all did a complimentary shot together. It was quite tasty and I'm not sure what it was called so I'll call it Liquid Camraderie. 4 am brought the close of the place and my companion and I headed out not realizing how late it was. After saying good night to my companion, I got into one of the many cabs to be found outside and headed home. The only reason I left off a star was because there were moments when I was freezing in the place and sometimes the smoke from outside found its way inside. Here's my issue with the other Yelper's ratings. I feel like no one is giving the place stars based on what it is actually trying to accomplish. This may not be a prestigious bar, but it does exactly what it is trying to do. It is a laid back, cheap, fun bar with an outdoor patio and awesome bartenders (and owner). It's perfect for people-watching and faces the park. I went here twice last month when I visited NY and bought a wrist band to support the park for $5 and then got $5 beers+shots all night. I sat on the couch they have set out front and had a great time. I am moving to Brookyln soon and this will be my go-to local hang out. I give it 5 stars because Macri delivers what Macri promises...even if that means JUST a chill place to hang out. read more

I was a regular at Macri, until my fellow bartenders (who I still see and hang out with till this day) got fired for not being homosexual. Disgusting. I'm sitting here right now, drinking a lagunitas IPA and waiting out the afternoon, leeching off the free wifi. it's got nifty wallpaper (fuzzy variety), nice bartenders and supposedly they are going to fire up the bqq in the backyard sometime soon. on a hot day like today, the breeze flows through the space perfectly, and you have a nice view of the actual macri park out the front door. i tried to weather the hipness in union pool next door for a bit, but when the kids in dayglow started dancing to C + C Music Factory and complaining that a 26th birthday made them SO OLD, I needed to go somewhere a little more grown-up. consider it found. read more

I came here on a bathroom emergency, not wanting to use the dirty bathroom at Metropolitan two blocks away.... It's a pretty big bar, with a big TV screen (playing sports... ugh), and a pretty comfy relaxed atmosphere. The nicest part is probably the patio in the back, where I ended up hanging out for a while as it was nice out. Pretty strong drinks too (yeah... I felt like I had to order something). Nothing to write home about, but for a Monday night it actually wasn't not too dead. And in case you wonder: yes, the bathroom is pretty nice. read more

I actually think this place is amazing because when I stepped in with my girlfriend Sircharles, it was a pleasant atmosphere and the people are really nice in fact, on Wednesday nights they have on-screen projector openings from TV shows like American Horror Story, My Name is Earl and you name it and the likes (Cause I saw American Horror Story and that was a mistake because I did not know they would be showing it so pick wisely on the days or shows you choose to show up.) It's near the G train, which is perfect for me. After Smorgasburg and walking over half a million blocks to the nearest train to get us into the inner recesses of our respective homes we made a pit stop in this bar that none of us had been to before. There's a yelp deal for a $1 off a drink, but it can't be during happy hour and it turned out that it was! Which I was shocked because it was after 5 or 6pm on a Saturday. Anyway, wells and drafts are only $4. Not a huge selection of beers but they had Brooklyn Summer Ale and I was content with that. Kind of dark inside but they have these odd little couches every where, including one on the street in front of the place. Who doesn't want to sit on a couch in front of a bar?! It's very hipster. Maybe a little too hipster. But hipsters that like to bring their babies to bars kind of hipsters and I couldn't believe that. But the backyard area, granted, seemed like sitting in someone's apartment backyard. For reals. There were free hotdogs and hamburgers being grilled all day for folks. Which I'm sorry I couldn't eat because I was overwhelmingly stuffed. But I will have to keep this in mind for future outings. read more

You almost feel like you're walking into a tunnel, but with the large glass door in front and the patio out back, it's openness makes it an enjoyable warm weather bar. We found this place after the que at union pool was way to long! It was cute and the drinks were ok. The place had decent prices but not really any drinking specials which sucked. The bartender was not very great at customer service! The dj played some great 90's music but his mixes were confusing! He'd play a good song and then mix it with a song nobody knew. He didn't really play to the crowd. I think we would have had more fun if it wasn't raining and we could enjoy the outside area. read more

Macri Park reminds me of two things: this one night in Vegas... and a brothel (nothing to do with one another). I suppose it's a combination of sultry and cheap that just leads you to all the right conclusions. I mean this all in the best way possible. We never set out for Macri Park, but when the going gets rough at Union Pool, we always find ourselves here (it's next door). We always have a great time, too. It's certainly a dive bar; hitting all of the usual pegs: good music, cheap drinks, questionable bathrooms, and a good place in the front and back to step outside for a moment. There's nothing special happening here; but its a great time every time. It's a warm and fuzzy place to waste away several hours with friends on the cheap. I've spent many a happy hour here when I was the only person in the bar. I like the open air layout of the place, especially when the weather is nice. I also really love how friendly the bartenders are here. Last night, I asked for someone to make me a Chocolate Cake shot (I love them, get off my back. You should try one! Alls you need is Vanilla Vodka and Frangelico and you will see what I mean.) Anyhow, I really hate being judged for ordering "girly drinks." I'm a girl, thus all drinks in my possession are by transference girly. But I really resent being sneered at when I'm not ordering my typical Makers on the rocks. The bartender at Macri Park did not sneer or judge, he simply took direction and made the damn drink. That's what I like. Service with a smile. read more

Went by on Friday night to hear a frend DJ. Both bartenders were wasted. Not just tipsy; wasted. The one who took my order was administering the traditional hiccup cure (lemon wedge with bitters and sugar)... to herself. She looked like she was about to be sick. Because I'd been drinking Old Fashioned cocktails all night, I chanced ordering one from her. It was woefully over-seltzered--like a whiskey and citrus flavored Poland Spring. So I requested another without any seltzer. She fought me like a child on this request, saying it wouldn't be an Old Fashioned, eventually giving me something that felt like a punishment for even gently suggesting she'd maybe been a little heavy handed with the seltzer. I don't mind attitude on a bartender if they can back it up with a great cocktail. And I dont mind paying $10 for said great cocktail, provided it tastes delicious. But when you're slinging that kind of slurry... Well, I suppose I should have just stuck with the Lagunitas IPA on tap. That's a plus! Cool space, comfy, just don't question your drunken bartenders. This place was chill. We stopped in on a Saturday night on a whim while barhopping. This bar had lights and a DJ and a small dance floor, but most of the crowd was just hanging around and chatting. It was loud, but you could still carry on a close conversation. My group of four sipped drinks at a booth before we left to another place, but I had really great service here. The bartenders were friendly even though it was packed and were super nice when I mistakenly left a drink off my order after I'd closed my tab. Would definitely revisit, I didn't even get to check out the patio. I think if you're looking for more low-key vibes, stop in on a weeknight or early evening. read more

I really loved this place for drink and draw night. Once you get over the fact that there is a half naked woman chilling at the front of the room its a pretty cool bar. The only downside is the venue is really small so we had to wait for a table in order to participate in the drink and draw, and the tables were not set up in a logical way. Two of us had to sit with our backs facing the 'subject" so we just ended up making our own doodles. But the vide is really relaxed an comfortable which is saying a lot when you have a topless girl sitting at the front of the room. I would definitely go back for the next drink and draw! I would suggesting not going not too late otherwise it might be difficult to find a seat. No one like drawing standing up. read more
