The reason people avoid your bar is because of Nancy, who consistently ruins the experience. Her behavior toward customers is rude and unwelcoming, and it does a disservice to the establishment. She has chased customers as they try to leave, which is uncomfortable and inappropriate. This behavior has become increasingly concerning and negatively impacts the atmosphere. Something needs to be done, but other than that. Its a chill vibe. read more

Me and my friends came here. We ended up having to use the restroom as one does. We all went into the bathroom together. I understand this is something they have a rule against, but we didn't know upon entering the restroom. We are a group of women who just always go into together. I was literally pulling my pants down when a bouncer started banging on the door, yelling that we leave the restroom. I hurried to get myself decent again and we opened the door to a bouncer who said "if y'all are gonna do drugs in here, go one at a time." So, we were not doing drugs, several of us just had to piss. Shocker. Anyway, we go one at a time, and while we're waiting on each other, somebody is on the mic going " who has drugs? Give us your drugs!" So obviously that was pretty ironic given how we were just accosted and accused of doing drugs when we weren't. Get it together. read more

Macri Park - Gay Bars Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I'm a very big fan of any reasonably priced bar that has an outdoor patio, Macri Park fits this criteria. It's a cozy bar that's literally right off the Metropolitan G stop. The back patio is a decent size with a bunch of picnic tables and a leather couch, inside there are three semi circular booths in addition to the bar. They even have a covered front entrance outside with a couple couches (mostly for smokers from what I can tell). Happy goes until 8pm where all drafts are $4 (mostly $6 after). In addition to the drink specials they also have weekly events here like Bingo on Tuesdays and something called "Drink and Draw" on Sundays where you bring your own art supplies and they provide a model. I'll make sure to come back for both those events and check back in. UPDATE: I've been back for Bingo on Tuesday. It was free, fun, and I won a beer. There aren't a ton of people who show up for it and you can come in at any time. They only give you a single Bingo board so it's easy to continue having a conversation while playing. read more

Decent spot I've been here a few times and I think that it is a great alternative to Metropolitan Bar (and I'm not dissing Metropolitan Bar in any way). Sometimes it is nice to go to a place where you are not packed in like sardines and where you can talk without screaming. For the most part, the clientele is pretty chill and are on the more alternative side of the LGBT community. The outdoor patio is perfect for sipping your favorite and smoking your favorite type of nicotine. I went there for the first time on a Sunday with my best friend. We were in the area and saw their amazing happy hour prices (everyday from 3pm to 9pm). The bartender was super fun to talk to and served us with care. They played amazing music from different genres and was filled with cool people. It is somewhat dark in there which was expected as a dive bar. They have an outdoor section that I did not check out. Overall, this is my new spot. Great prices ($3 beer, $4 well drinks/wine), great vibes, nice bartenders, cool people, rainbow flags everywhere. What more could anyone ask for? Ah Williamsburg how I love thee. Looking for a cheap place to drink and pretend to be a hipster or maybe a regular joe? Well you've found it. Seriously, this place can be hit or miss at times. I been to this place about 6 times and each time is different. Months back I stepped in this place and they were playing music that was from the 50s and 60s. Another time they were playing music from indie bands. Then recently when I went they were playing hip hop/mixed w/ top 40/ mixed with Reggae. It's pretty open for people to dance if they want to. There is a backyard area that's big and has wooden benches to sit on. They let you smoke cigarettes in this area a well. I did however some were smoking something else. The front of the bar outside has a little wooden area for you to smoke cigarettes as well if your into that sort of thing. The noise is average when your out there as opposed to the loudness from inside the bar. I like that it is very dark here and the candles make it feel loungey. I wonder if they serve food here because I wouldn't mind going here when they do. They have a bunch or booths that hold about 6 to 8 people. I like the fact that they have $6 beer w/ shot specials. You get a miller high-life and a shot of whiskey. I can't have more then 5 shots of this whiskey because I find it to be gross. But who really likes house whiskey? ::BATHROOM ALERT::: There are two bathrooms downstairs and one upstairs to the left before you go out in the back area. I recommend the bathroom on the top floor because your drunk butt will fall down the stairs if your not careful. Also the bottom bathrooms are pretty gross. It feels like I am using a bathroom at a rock concert. Be careful with locking the doors too if your not careful someone can walk in on you doing your business. There seems to be some sort of water leaking from the ceiling. One of the bathrooms had no toilet paper so of course the drunkest ones would use that. So, please go with the upstairs bathroom because it is bigger, better and smells right. Did I mention they have a fireplace? It gives a romantic feel to if you stop to take a look at it but this bar isn't about being romantic so don't let that scare you off. I find that the bartenders take a little time to get you your order. But it just depends on the night as with all places. I saw that a couple of people mentioned they had water for you on the side of the bar to serve yourself I have yet to see this. I love that there is no dress code and the bouncers are actually nice. The reason this place gets only 4 stars is because of the bathroom location and because you don't get many buybacks. read more

Cool space. Weird that there was a cover for a drag queen show that didn't start for literally 3 hours. The music was hit or miss. It was good for a lounge and light dancing but we were looking to drop it low on the floor and were the only ones dancing. The music shouldn't be that loud if no ones going to dance. I have been a patron of Metropolitan, TNT, Sugarland, and Macri Park for 7-8 years. I know all of the staff and have spent most of my formidable years in these spaces. I cannot even begin to understand what happened to me 2 weeks ago in this space. I was in Macri having a drink with Matthew Longo a friend I have known for years having just left Metropolitan feeling good and excited to be around friends. I am at the bar being loud laughing and someone at the bar next to me turns and screams. "You are screaming in my ear! Shut the fuck up!" I am very dismayed and confused as to why this person is being this aggressive. I look at him apologize but also say "lighten up we are in a bar." I grab my drink turn to walk away and this person full on shoves me...... I am angry, but I don't react because I love and respect the people who work here. So I say to myself talk to security don't retaliate but it takes all my might to avoid confrontation . Security says you have to talk to the manager. I say ok I know him no problem. I pull Matty aside I say that guy pushed me. He responds "you mean my best friend?" I say ya doesn't matter who he is he put his hands on me. He responds " He said you hit him first." I respond "that is impossible I was fully turned around. " Silence. Knowing Macri has tapes I say, "well we can watch the security footage cause this back and forth makes no sense." He refuses. I am very confused and hurt that this is the sort of business we are allowing to be conducted at our gay spaces. I will never set foot in Macri ever again read more

Visited Macri Park for a RuPaul's Drag Race viewing party last night, and I was shocked to discover a friendly gay bar so close to home. When I first arrived, I was directed by a very friendly door guy and a drag queen in an Elvira look-a-like outfit to find a place to watch the show. This wasn't our normal place to watch the show, so I was anxious to ensure we could see and hear as best as possible. They were both SUPER nice and nothing like you'd expect from a grungy, Brooklyn dive gay bar. I was shocked and felt very at home. :-) The space was great for a dive bar. They had a nice back patio and some of the cheapest drinks we've ever seen in BK. I think our total bill was like $30 for four people to drink for an hour and a half or so. Such a good deal. Can't wait to revisit this great little find on Union. :-) read more

This wasn't a straight bar or a gay bar...a white, black, yellow, or purple bar. This was a bar that was inclusive and welcoming of all. I met friends and freaks from all walks of life here and then watched as the staff who created this safe space were unceremoniously fired because they didn't fit into a label. It's staggering to see something this blatant, unprofessional, and discriminatory happen at a locale known for being a positive environment. The inclusive bar closed early in the morning on August 21, 2015. In this case it isn't just business, it's personal. Best of luck to the ex-bartenders of Macri. There are several levels of bar. Macri Park sits firmly above "dive bar" in the "neighborhood bar" category. I just got home from my first trip to New York, and stayed just around the corner from this gem (good thing, because crossing the street could have been dangerous after a few of my trips here). Let me tell you...Sam Malone was a prick and wouldn't have gotten me to come back to Cheers once...The ladies of Macri, however (and the dude with the badass beard) were good people. George even shared her lunch with me prompting a heartfelt marriage proposal to which I was turned down (offer stands, George). Flat rate for a shot and a beer? Don't mind if I do..and what was it. all of $6 if I remember(which I don't)? I was ready to leave after 3 beers one night when Mr. Grizzly Beard says "4th beer is free, man." Thank you sir, you are a scholar, a gentleman, a saint and a blessing. This place is nice inside but not too nice; clean but not too clean. You know the kind of place...COMFORTABLE. The patio is awesome, and I hear tale that they have free BBQ on the weekends. Macri is a damn fine joint..but in the words of the legendary Levar Burton "Don't take my word for it." read more

Any place that has a wifi password of Baconcheeseburger has already shown me their willingness and dedication to be an excellent establishment. I like this place a lot. I like beer and shot combos. Usually though it's a beer you're not to fond of or one you're indifferent towards. Here they had the combo with not just presidente but presidente light as well. (It's the only light beer I'll drink by choice, I see you judging me) Next I like the open front, great way to attract people. They have a nice patio out back. Inside decor is cool. 5 stars prior to August 2015, when Macri Park used to be a blessed haven for anyone who didn't fit into that neat little monetization box. One buzz-kill of a late Wednesday night this past March I was fed up with hauling arse to yet another Williamsburg bar "lesbian night" only to be bored out of my mind by the same old same old Kanye/Beyoncé/Taylor Swift Spotify DJ & girls more interested in looking cool & aloof and letting their boobs & booties hang out. Ran like hell to Macri Park and it was like coming home. The soundtrack to "Ghost World" was playing along with a black and white B movie. I planted my butt out back with a coldie and met Moses, the then-owner of the bar. We had a loverly chat and then I wandered over to the now-defunct Trash Bar where I shot pool & did a birthday shot over the sounds of Marilyn Manson & NIN with the co-owner of B.A.D. Burger. It seems those days have gone. Trash Bar has shuttered their doors, and Macri Park is a now a run-of-the-mill gay bar (trust me, I've been to all of them). I'm gay. But I'm also anti-establishment. Aside from having to head all the way from the butt-end of Brooklyn up to Bushwick to get my fix, there's barely a handful of punk institutions in the East Village and those few and far between are rapidly getting swallowed up in the monotony of the populist mass craft beer joints. I will probably hit Macri Park again, to whet my whistle before/after spending my pocketful of quarters at Barcade (another place that's birthing hipster chain bars all over NYC), and yes, I have met some beautiful friendly drag queens...so Macri Park isn't all that bad. It's just not Macri Park anymore. They need to rename it -- it's like keeping CBGB's but turning it into a trendy nightclub with table service. It's a blatant insult to The Ramones, Patti Smith, The Descendants -- all the people who ever needed a space to feed their creativity and vision -- and everything that movement stood for. What does this generation stand for? Anything? Blockbuster movies, indistinguishable pop music, tweets, selfies, resurrecting 80s nostalgia...yep, I guess punk IS dead. So...please call Macri Park something different, at least. How about Macaroni? Or Testosteroni? The owners sold out and gave us same-same-no-different (than every place in Billyburg). Nice laid-back atmosphere, half-dive bar, half-lounge. The happy hour specials aren't anything to write home about, but standard -- $5 well drinks, 2-for-1 bottles. They don't open until 6:30, which is a little unusual, but maybe it's more of a night crowd. The particular evening I was there it was freezing inside. Don't get me wrong: 45 degrees feels toasty when it's 18 degrees outside, but you could have froze meat in there and icicles were hanging from friend's beard. Nice and cozy interior without being ultra cramped. The decor is classy with out being ostentatious. It's nicer than a dive/neighborhood bar... but relatively douchebag free. A few booths along one side, a nice little space for dancing, and a great outdoor patio. We typically dive in here while walking around the area. Music varies with the DJ's... one night it was all James Brown... another night it was a best of set of dance party classics. The front entrance is barrier free. This used to be our favorite place to go. Like the Inn at the End of the World, it was somewhere that accepted everyone. A magical grab bag, you never knew what you were getting any time you went, but it was always a guaranteed good time, a chance to meet interesting people and just a place to feel safe and drink on the cheap. I felt it never identified as either gay or straight, but it was somewhere were ANYONE could go. That was until they mistreated all of their staff. Now it's just another shitty bar indicative of other changes in the neighborhood. I honestly had no issues with any of the sister bars before (Metropolitan, Lulu's, etc), but now I won't give any of them my business. This is something much more. A luxury dive bar. Only by taking a second look you see the underlying diveyness to it. Oh Macri Park, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways... From day one they had me hooked. Sultry red floral wallpaper, cool mirrors, colorful christmas lights all year round, friendly bartenders and AWESOME movies! My husband and I frequent this place sometimes multiple times a week. We've gotten to know the Friday night bartender pretty well and enjoy catching up with her weekly. She'll usually have a great movie picked out for us before we even show up. It's so great to walk into your favorite bar and hear "hey you guys! I have the best movie for you!" So much fun. I look forward to many more evenings at good ol' Macri Park and if I ever move away from Brooklyn someday I can honestly say that this place is what I will miss most. read more

Someone told me the other night, that some people go to a particular bar for the abuse, and some bars exist for dishing it. Oh, Macri Park you use me and abuse me. Great beer selection on tap fill almost clean glasses. The bartender, if you can distract them for a moment, takes no shit from no one, but they'll serve you what ever you ask, or sometimes what you don't ask. (Admit to yourself you had it coming anyways). Random jazz, 50s-60s, soul, and lounge blares from the speakers up high under the vaulted ceiling of this speakeasy-wanna-be, and the fireplace keeps the beads of sweat rolling off your forehead. Escape out to the patio in the back for some relief, or catch a rest on the benches out front under the overhang to contemplate life for a bit. Nice to see a classier bar option on this block, next to a crappy Mexican eatery that refuses to go away. Has really clean modern furnishings. Ultra modern interior, concrete floors, with an excellent little smoking patio out back. Was introduced to "Honkers" brand English Ale. The name; hilarious - and the beer was really good. And well priced. Not crowded on a Saturday night, and not being one for being crushed to death inside the madness of Union Pool, this was a great alternate choice without having to walk very far. Some of the reviews about Macri Park are pretty harsh. Those yelp-ers definitely seemed to have some bad experiences, which made me question whether to give this place a go. After going, I'm happy that I did. My experience was pleasant and I didn't get the dirty glasses, shit attitudes, or other things people had complained about. I've always walked by Macri Park and its welcoming storefront and have been wanting to give it a chance for a while. It was Wednesday evening around 6PM and the place had 4-5 people in it. Couple of bikes propped up in the back, guessing those people were the messenger crowd. The bar itself is dark, with embossed velvet red walls. There are two tvs which at the time were playing some horror movie. The bartender was a cute blond girl who had an easy-going demeanor, chatting with the guys at the bar. Drink specials for happy hour was $4 drafts/wells. Think they have a beer shot special too. Didn't get that. However, did have some tullamore dew which was priced around 7-8 bucks. The bartender made it a good pour both times so cheers to that. The backyard patio is nice and quiet. Several picnic benches in the back. Potted plants on each table. Smoking and non-smoking areas (not sure how well that will work as the place isnt that big and smoke is smoke; it kinda does that floating, wafting thing). Decent prices. Would like to note that Macri Park is NOT-a-dive. Its as another reviewer put it, a local neighborhood bar. Just a dark one (which I have no problem with). Good place for an after work drink. Stumbled across the spot on the way to Union pool. Glad I stopped by. Its a great place to sit down and have a drink before facing the debauchery that is Union Pool. The staff was incredibly courteous and they were playing some decent music. Most importantly, it alternated between genres, which I find pretty rare for evening venues. The backyard part looked great, but unfortunately it was too cold to visit out there. Really just a nice little dive bar, more of a 3.5 but didn't want to bump it down :) Major points for playing Donnie Darko during Halloween. read more
