a bar with a chalkboard menu on the wall

I can not recommend this place enough. You feel entirely at home at this bar that's been open for 26 years. My favorite aspect of this bar is one of my favorite bartenders Pat. He's here on Weds and the weekends and he's such a welcome part of this bar. Love him!!! You can not go wrong with coming here on a happy hour moment or on the weekend.

Worth checking out.

So Dark and so Right For me, I have nothing but positive memories of Nowhere. It definitely was a part of my weekly "East Village gay bar crawl" for many years. The bar has a no frills theme to it, with patrons of all shapes and colors. The drinks are relatively cheap; the bartenders have generous pours; and there are decent happy hour specials. All great in my book. The bar itself has a divey, 80's feel too it. Although there is a DJ spinning most nights, the bar really is not a dancehall, per se. I see Nowhere kind of as a place to meet up with people before heading out to someplace else. You know, get your buzz on with cheap drinks before going to places and paying $15 dollars for a gin and soda. In my experience of frequenting Nowhere, I found the majority of the bartenders to be really cool and down to earth (characteristics that can be hard to find in the NYC bar scene). The only (small) issue with Nowhere is the $25 card minimum, which can be high relative to the drink prices. But, I've never had an issue meeting the minimum.

My husband & I stayed in NY for Labor Day weekend and one of the places we kept going back to was Nowhere. Sonny the bartender was wonderful - he's so down to earth and approachable, he made good, strong drinks, reasonably priced, but more than that: my husband lost an item in the bar and no one had seen it. Right after we left - literally a block down the street on our way to the subway - we hear someone bellow my husband's name. We turn around in surprise, 'cause we don't know anyone in NY, and it's Sonny! Someone had turned in the lost item right after we left and he ran outside to get it back to us. We gave him a hug and thanked him, and promptly came back the next night for more drinks. Also: DJ Dexter Driscoll was so sweet - he even took requests. I definitely recommend everyone check it out! Also love the atmosphere and décor inside! Thanks!

I was looking for a place to have a drink in the area, and I picked Nowhere at random. It was a Friday night at around 12am, and the bar was about half empty. *Interesting* decoration: jockstraps hanging from the ceiling, hardcore 70s gay porn videos playing on the TV screens, scruffy-looking bartenders wearing assless buttchaps... Very divey feel, relaxed East-Village crowd, and great music mix! Too bad it wasn't more crowded and that no one was dancing, or I probably would have partaken myself. The drinks were pretty cheap (around $5 or $6); kudos for the beers on tap (Hoegaarden, yay!). There's a small lounge area with couches in the back. While I was there some idiot complained to me about there being lesbians in the bar: WTF? Not exactly my type of bar, but I still had a good time and may stop by again if I'm in the neighborhood. UPDATE (08/07/07): I've been going to Nowhere quite a bit more recently, and it might well be my new fave gay dive EV bar. The first time I went must have been a special event: on most nights it's quite a bit more low-key, with a lot of regulars just hanging out and having a drink. People, including the bartenders, are very friendly, and the drinks are cheap. Great place to unwind over a beer with a friend.

Terrible interior shot, but you get the idea!

Delicious homemade pasta & killer tomato sauce. If you don't go there you're missing out on one of the treats of life.

If you're on the fence about going to Eagle, well just hop off already and get your bum over there…read more I finally did and realized I had been missing out all this time. This fantastically grungy place is fueled by a mix of thumping beats, leather harnesses, and shirtless men. Even at its busiest, the vibe stays open, fun, and surprisingly well organized. The Wednesday before thanksgiving is apparently known for being the busiest night at the Eagle, and this year's record crowd should have sunk the whole operation, but the staff kept the entire production going smoothly like it was rehearsed. The Eagle's security team deserves direct credit. They managed an impossibly massive crowd without a hitch. Even with thousands trying to get in, the kilometric entrance line and the coat check line that stretched to the roof moved smoothly and never descended into chaos. Dan in particular handled a near-impossible task: recovering my smartwatch from a crowd so packed I had assumed it was gone for good. He somehow retrieved it, safeguarded it, and returned it to me with the utmost professionalism. Music is solid. The vibe is leather and musk. The inclusivity is not just tag line but a daily practice. This bar deserves every positive review on this app. Ignore the haters. Peace!

Leather gay bar with a distinct edge in an edgy neighborhood with staffers who have an edge too : )…read more The whole vibe of the place is meant to be edgy and transgressive. It works on some levels and not on others (no one will be singing show tunes but everyone's trying to look very serious in a faux macho sorta way) Fun place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there
