Everything from music to lighting were fairly standard for an average gay bar, however interacting with the employees was consistently painful. The bartender twice charged me $36 for two vodka soda's and each time handed me some pink colored beverages. For some reason he refused to remake the actual drink I'd ordered, and I was baffled when the manager agreed that I would need to order a third round if I wanted the correct drink. Looking back, I'm still not sure what would've been the reason behind the entire approach, but I'd recommend skipping this bar if there are alternative options. read more

Went there last night as I love this bar had two vodkas and two beers asked for check 10$ each for Alexis vodka the cheapest ever vodka in the USA $16 for the two beers was never charged this for well vodka then a charge for paying with credit card another $1.56 then taxes $3.11then they want a tip after this so $40 for the check I am a bartender this should be at least $31 how do you expect your staff to make money ?? One of the more rainbow friendly bars along Roosevelt, True Colors has the distinction of being an intimate lounge with the seediness of a pseudo-ficha-dive-bar all at the same time. The fun really depends on the company, whether its the already existing fiesta versus your own friendly group of drinkers, just keep the pretense at the door with the bouncer. Drinks are never too spendy in these parts, which means people get drunker quicker and for less than any of the places i Chelsea / Hell's Kitchen. Spanish isn't so much of a requirement here as it is a reality of the hood, as most of the staff is español speaking, but even then it's not as intimidating for our English only friends as previously noted. There is no cover, that's the good news. The music will invariably interchange between raggaeton and a little bit of girly pop, if that's your thing. The weekend DJs are open to requests, but the house music hasn't been too suffocating thankfully. The bathrooms might be a little gross, so thank goodness for the extensive black lighting. The bartenders are a fun bunch. Sure, some of them are topless and giving you the martini eyes, but don't be surprised if they suddenly scale the counters for an impromptu dance. He is all about making a great moment better in any place, any atmosphere in any area. If a man takes his girl to a gay bar and wants to drink and dance with her just so she can relax and smile for a couple of hours, he's a keeper. We walked into this bar and it was pretty empty, What happened people I thought we love Happy Hour. Kool thing is that happy hour ended at 10PM in this place so we down our favorite drinks and shots. This young little bartender talked to us and even took a shot with me cause he couldn't believe my name is Amor. Do you know that song the "FREAKS COME OUT AT NIGHT", Yes boo all the freaks come out at night. All the good looking gays come out to have a good time. OMG and the bartenders, One of them was so fine I kept on forgetting I was with my man. The music was right and the drinks was flow and we even order some hookah. I think that this bar is becoming one of my favorite bars on the Roosevelt Avenue "strip". It's funny because this bar is a like a mix of a posh club and a slightly rif-raff celebration. Of course, I mean riff raff in a nice way. I find that many of the bartenders in the LGBT bars on Roosevelt Avenue are very nice; and the ones at True Colors are no exception. Another thing that I enjoy about this place is the DJs play more Latin music than regular pop music from the States . . . although I am not a huge fan of reggaeton. Be aware, this place is not for you if you have very sensitive hearing because the music is VERY LOUD here. Many times, you will not be able to talk to the person next to you. However, everyone is pretty much drunk and dancing, by the the loud music fiesta starts. Most of the clientele is pretty laid back and I usually get a chance to talk and/or dance with a couple folks on the dance floor. Of course, there many be a couple of snobs with attitudes but they are a fixture a most bars anyway. The bar does have go-go dancers from time to time, which are not really my thing. The drinks are moderately priced for the area. If you tip the bartenders well (a dollar per drink), then they will pour you stronger drinks for the next rounds. Once again I was in the area for Queens Pride. I marched in the parade and went to the street fair. After that I went to a house party for food, drinks, and good friends. Later about 8 pm, after helping the hosts clean up I ventured to find a gay bar. There was a line outside Friends Tavern and it started to rain so I came here. There was no cover and no line but the customers outside might make you think otherwise. It was crowded but there was space at the bar. Waited for 15 minutes to get in, there was no line, there were four people in front of this who were checking their coats and it took that much time for four people (seriously watching the person hang coats was excruciating). I have been to this bar multiple times and I feel like its definitely overpriced. But I love the music. I was very disappointed to see my bank statement and saw that despite me not putting any tip on the bill the bartender put one on it himself. This is very unlawful . I have always tip the pass 20 ish time I been there but this once I have been short on cash and I was hit with unexpected bills. I wanted to go out of a couple beers 4 to be exact. even if life is not going well we are all allowed to treat ourself and we should not feel bad if one day we can't tip. I know that they make money from tips but I'm sorry that opening a corona bottle is a lot of work. Them tipping them self got my account on negative and I got charge overdraft fee. Beware of walking bartenders who walk to your table to sell you drinks. There is a Colombian man who, behind you, will throw away your already paid drink and say "glass was empty" to force you to buy more drinks. We stopped in here around 1:00 AM on a Friday night after a night of bar-hopping and we ended up closing the place at 4:00 AM. The music is really loud which I enjoyed (but not for everyone) and was a mix of English and Spanish pop/dance songs and the dance floor was packed. The second time I was here was a quieter night and there were only one or two couples dancing. The clientele is mostly local Latinos and Jackson Heights folk. Thieves. Opened a tab by leaving my debit card at the bar. When I went to close my tab they accused me of having never left a card...!!?? Despite this, they had already charged my card without my signature and gave themselves an almost 200% tip.... And I NEVER got my debit card back. Went to this place on a Friday night trying to see local gay spots in the area. Had a shot of Jager, IT WAS WATERED DOWN! Spoke to the "bar manager" about it, he said he had no idea what it was about, he was just a "personell manager". Bartender was very attentive, but definitely will not be going back. read more

This place is great! Went on a Thursday night Happy hour seems to end at 10pm but during happy hour I order a Long Island an it was $6! The bartenders take care of you here. Other drinks are $3 during happy hour. I was told regularly the Long Island is $8 when it's not happy hour so I assume reg. drinks are $5. Nice dance floor space! Highly recommend! Drinks aren't strong so maybe pre-game before to save money. read more
