I love Ginger's, it is now my preferred lesbian bar in New York and I've been to them all. The drinks are cheap and it is cash only with an ATM located inside. There is an outside area as well that has heaters in the colder months. There are some nightly events as well. You can play pool as well as meet new people! Decided to randomly check this place out with a friend. The overall space is commodious and good to come with some friends or a friend. It's nice that they have the outdoor back patio and pool table in the back. The downside of this space is that it seems more of a place to hold conversations. The music selection wasn't that great and it's not really a place to dance. Everyone also seems to be wrapped in their own space and I didn't get an overall friendly / welcoming vibe of the space. My girlfriend's and I stumbled into Ginger's Bar after escaping the rain and being shooed out of the Park Slope Bingo since we didn't make it on time apparently to play. This was a delightful plan B and we had a great time hanging at the bar and dancing to some great 90's tunes. Word to the wise their giant screen that resembles an ATM is not an ATM but rather a juke-box/photo booth. I learned this the hard way with a $5 charge later. But the bar had decent priced drinks and ample space to hang out and dance around. It was oddly decorated with a dentist chair and other random relics/antiques and made us feel like we were in Williamsburg rather than Park Slope. In the back they had pool tables and couches for a loungeier vibe. We hung out for 2 drinks, a fun accidental photo booth session and a few dance parties and were thankful for the escape from the rain. I come here once a week and I think it's a great bar. Some reviewers noted that it can feel clique-y or like there isn't much space to show up and have conversations with folks, and I've heard that from other people I know who've went too. If you do want to meet folks, come on a weekday around 7 PM or so - it's quieter, and there's always some folks who are also there to just chat and who are totally friendly. Or visit during a planned event! 9 PM onwards is pretty busy and is when groups who planned to hang out together start showing up. Used to come here, but it's not worth it now. Tonight a lady got super inebriated and accused my friend that she was talking about her- she was not- she got in our faces and threatened us. She then proceeded to scream at us from across the room. I told the bartender and she basically said that we should wait in the other room until she left and gave us shots for the inconvenience. There was no security or procedure to keep the peace. I felt very unsafe here. read more

Great spot for meeting up with Queer people or bringing the occasional supportive ally to experience what a queer bar is like. And nice to grab a beer and take it to the back patio. I love gingers!!! I would literally throw my body in front of a bulldozer before anyone tries to close down this place. The crowd is mixed but I love that it's lesbian. The sad thing is that cis gay men seem to be taking it over. Not sure if that's changed in the last couple years but it just felt great before when it was queer women. read more

It's clear to me why this bar is always empty. Yes like other reviews say... a lot of straight people at this bar and very small amount of people are ever here when I come in. Also, the bartenders are rude, unprofessional and I'm sure breaking some laws. Yesterday's pride is the last time I will step foot there. Bartender (long brown hair) in blue shirt from Target with flags blew my mind with what she was doing. Serving drinks to her friends at low random prices in front of customers... taking shots - got drunk and literally was stumbling around the bar and missing cups when pouring alcohol.. she would pour it on the bar! Lol, insane. I asked for a shot - she paused, stared at me and said "nope, can't make that one." and proceeded to walk away. I called her back and said, "so you're not going to offer me another option, you're just going to walk away... what Bartender says they don't have a drink and then walks away without giving their customer an option of something else or asking them what else they would like? She had nothing to say. And she would also take your money, say thanks and not come back with change. Did that all night. Oh!!! And get this one... a woman came in asking for a triple shot of vodka... she filled a BEER cup with vodka all the way to the top and accepted a $20 tip. Turns out, that was the SECOND beer cup of vodka she gave this woman in the last half hour. I talked to the lady and she was far from sober. ILLEGAL? I love Ginger's. The owners live in the neighborhood and can be seen tending bar on busy nights. The prices are good, the bartenders are great, there is a TV, a pool table, and a huge outdoor space. I like the crowd - on a weeknight you can show up with a friend or two and make friends with other patrons. Most are lesbian/bi, some are gay/bi men. Those that are straight blend in with the crowd. They give back to the LGBT community - donating space for the Dyke March to hold an after party - and letting them charge a cover - the ONLY night with a cover - a rarity (it seems) in NYC LGBT nightlife. My group of friends (7) and I were on a frenzy as we searched for a bar in Park Slope that showed the Knicks game. After many attempts to many bars around the area, Ginger's Bar was our savior! The owner was nice to change the tv channel to the Knicks game. It was my first time there, and it did not bother me as I later on found out that it was a gay bar. It didn't bother me at all as I have many friends that are gay & bisexual. I had a good time there with my friends. They played nice music (top 40s), and had a itune jukebox that plays any music you want (oldies to current). They also had a pool table, and many tables for seating. Drinks were ok. Friend told me that Ginger's Bar had a ginger infused beer that tasted great and that I should try it. Maybe next time? I didn't as I had to work the next morning, and didn't want to have a hangover. There were some regulars there that were nice to us, and some that were a bit rude. The rude one made a snarky comment "when did this place become a sports bar" to my friends, but they ignored her. Miss Sarit and I came here for their advertised 80's night in one of those local NYC papers they pass out on the subway. Although I knew already it was a lesbian bar, since I have been here before; people were very accepting and nonjudgemental. We got no dirty looks, and in fact several people talked to us, hung out with us and even danced with us! The owner here is very, very nice and accommodating bringing out party favors like disco-lighted maracas and other fun stuff. She even would organize some kind of improv choreographed group dance with everyone on the dance floor. The only two complaints I have is that the drinks are overpriced and overwatered down, and the DJ needs to upgrade to a Mac or something. It was novel seeing her spin it with CD's, but that also brings about the problems with requesting songs, skipping, dead air, etc. It was pretty amateur, sadly. Overall though I do like this bar and it's a lot of fun. A really nice chill, mellow place to hang out where people are not pretentious and just love to have fun! read more

Cozy interior with locals who know one another. It's a good place for quiet but also a good place for noise (of the good kind) during the evening when they really get a crowd. Ginger's is one of the best queer spaces in brooklyn hands down. Not to mention that it's the only lesbian bar in brooklyn, but it's also extremely friendly and affordable. The bar tenders work really hard and truly care about getting to know their regular customers. Even the person at the door is friendly. Not to mention they're a dyke!! Finally some representation all around! They also have a wonderful backyard space with seating and heaters for the winter. You can hang out there at all times of the year and not feel cold! It does get quite crowded so if you don't get there early you won't get a seat or a table. Overall Ginger's is a wonderful space to go in Brooklyn if you're looking for a fun chill night with friends or a date. 10/10 recommend to a friend. read more

I went to Ginger's tonight excited about venturing out to Brooklyn with some friends. When we arrived Ginger's felt so stereotypical it was disgusting...miserable ass Alanis on the jukebox and old lesbians with short hair cuts drowning their sorrows in beer straight from the tap. But me being me, I had to liven things up with some old school hip-hop, some electric sliding and other fun events. So here is the official run down: Pros: -cheap drinks. -outdoor patio is fun. -great bartenders. -a nice sized space. -women for all ages to enjoy. Cons: -the typical lesbian racial divide of whites with whites and browns with browns ( i hate that). -rude ass patrons. -only one pool table with possessive lesbians manning it. On paper, it is my wet dream of a bar: close to my apartment, gay, pretty cheap, back patio where I can drink and smoke at the same time, pool table, juke box, cheesy music, nice bartnders; God, this place sounds perfect. Except... the crowd here is usually older, not attractive, and boring. What's the problem, you say? Bring friends and create a party! Except... the crowd is sometimes so boring, they suck the life right out of you. The crowd here is actually able to take fun and turn it into ennui simply by their lack of enthusiasm.
