I ordered a French loaf and asked to get it cut but the lady said "the bread is too hot and fresh". she was so friendly and took the time to get to know us. MacReady is my favorite spot for lunch every time I visit Door County! Their fresh breads, cookies, pastries, and soups are all amazing. My favorite menu items are the Cranberry Chicken Salad, Egg Salad, Tomato Soup, and chocolate chip cookies. The cookies are baked just how I like them, thin and crispy with great flavor! The staff is always very friendly. I met Jenny at my last visit and she is personable and kind and made our visit that much better. I enjoy the outdoor seating options and sometimes in the summer I've heard live music there. No complaints and I always make sure to bring home bread and cookies to share with family members! This year was our first time in Door County and this place was my absolute favorite! The first day of our stay was cold and rainy, so we all decided we a soup and sandwich sounded good and this place totally delivered on exactly what we wanted! Their bread is amazing. I got their ham and swiss but let me tell you about their chicken pot pie soup!!! It was so creamy and flavorful and I could have ate like several bowls of it. We ended up staying at Door County for a week and since this place had such a memorable affect on my family, on our way out of town we stopped by to grab lunch to go for the road and it must have been my lucky day because their soup was cream of mushroom. I simply cannot pass that up so I got a cup, which I ate in the car, and it was honestly like the best cream of mushroom soup I've even had, and I've had MANY over the years so I know what I'm talking about. It's a great spot to grab a quick bite as they do sandwiches with their fresh bread and other tasty options. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable about what they're selling. Pricey but delicious. Like most things in Door County this little shop is on the pricey side, but really good. Sandwiches range from $9-11 (extra $2 for avocado) and come with a small bag of lays (no other chips are available). They have limited canned beverages and water available for $2. They also sells whole loaves of bread, but most people seemed to be buying sandwiches. I tried the cranberry chicken salad sandwich on a recommendation from another patron and was not disappointment. The chicken salad did not have too much of a Mayo flavor and the cranberries were a nice addition. I heard multiple people ask about buying just the chicken salad and found out they do sell it in a pint or quart. We also tried the butter cookie which was as good as it sounds - super flavorful with a moist center and crispy edges. My only regret was not getting a whole cookie for myself! A bit hungry on Labor Day weekend Sunday drive and happened across this stand-alone bakery. We chose Door County cherry scone and cherry streusel-topped muffin. We would post pictures, but we scarfed them up so fast, we didn't have a chance. The exceptional young man who served us was conversational and encouraging. I'm more than willing to pay for good food but when brought up they told me that they couldn't give me a receipt and that their menu board is getting redone next week. Be prepared to pay far more than what it's worth because of the location and the seasonality of business in Door County. Based on reviews, I asked for a sample of the hippie bread. It was delish and as another reviewer noted, I bought bread even though I don't keep bread at home! I do appreciate culinary artists and it is evident here in the goods. Long day at Murphy Park with many hours drive home so did not have time or place to enjoy the cookies or folded pie sweet treats.
