The restaurant was pretty empty on a Thursday evening. Only a few online orders got in the way of our order from being completed in under 10 minutes. Seating is plentiful too. I got the crispy chicken sandwich and a side of fries. The crispy chicken sandwich was super crispy and at the same time, surprisingly juicy. I would rate the sandwich a solid 8/10. However the fries were a complete let down. They were dry, and not seasoned at all. It was straight potato, deep fried and even the ketchup couldn't save them. I was pretty disappointed by them.
Heart broken that the San Mateo location in prime location of downtown San Mateo closed down, a little over a year. Glad this location is going strong! A bit of a drive but well worth it! Better than raising cane's and super duper! They are missing the macho sauce from San Mateo location. Glad the quality is consistent with the fried chicken menu items which is virtually the entire menu.
I came here during the lunch rush on a Wednesday and the restaurant was packed. Ordering is done through 2 kiosks that's by the front door. I ordered 2 crispy chicken sandwiches, 1 spicy chicken sandwich, curly fries, and onion rings. Even with a packed restaurant, our food didn't take too long to be made. Since my son didn't want to dine in, we ended up taking the food home to enjoy. In terms of flavor, the chicken sandwiches were juicy with a slight cumin flavor but the batter was too thick (instead of "crispy", it was slightly on the hard side). As for the spicy chicken sandwich, it's actually not spicy. It's more like a "medium" at Dave's Hot Chicken. As for the sides, I would skip the onion rings. The quantity I received, does not justify the price I paid.
Macho Burger doesn't sell their flavored beef burgers anymore, just the Macho Cheeseburger. I was looking forward to trying their green chili pepper cheeseburger and black truffle cheeseburger. I ended up only getting the Macho Crispy Chicken Sandwich. It was indeed the crispiest chicken sandwich I ever had. My friend got one of their chicken wraps and the nuggets. She agreed it was one of the crispiest she had especially in the Bay Area. The nuggets has a slightly crispier outing than McD. This is an order at the kiosk and pick up at the counter type place. Your food comes on a tray and you bus your own table. They serve your food fast!
Macho Burger consistently delivers a really good chicken sandwich IMO. They season and fry the chicken exceptionally well, it's the perfect amount of scraggly-ness without scratching up the roof of your mouth. The chicken is juicy and flavorful too. One thing I love about their sandwiches is they're well constructed and don't fall apart - the buns have a nice sweetness to them without being overly dense. The fries remind me of McDonald's fries and I was surprised at how much I enjoyed these. +$5 to add on fries and drink, but it's a big size drink and they give you a generous portion of fries. My only note is the spicy chicken sandwich could be a bit spicier but that's my personal preference. Would highly recommend!

Hm got takeout since I love chicken sandwiches but this one was a miss. Probably just a preference thing but there are strong smells from the chicken that I've not experienced with Chickfila, Popeyes, or Dave's. And the sandwich is not cheap either I'd say it's actually probably the most expensive among them. For the price and taste I'md probs opt for one of the other three next time.
Mmmm. Not my thing. Seemed like it had good reviews so I thought maybe a good new lunch place. I love burgers. These were just quickly made and very cheap quality. Same with the fried chicken sandwich. Fries equally not that great. Clean place. Weird service. Order at the kiosk and pick up food when ready. No human interaction.
I really enjoyed their chicken wrap, but their other items (that we've tried) were just meh. We ordered a chicken kebab, beijing chicken wrap, spicy chicken sandwich, and some rattan pepper on the side. I noticed that they might've prioritized the to-go orders, because the big group of people who placed their food after us got their food way before us (we opted for dine-in). The wrap for the chicken wrap reminded me of the peking duck wraps, soft and thin, perfect balance with the sauce and the crispy chicken. The chicken sandwich was underwhelming. The buns weren't toasted, it was basic/thick. There was some flavor missing in the sandwich. The crispy chicken was juicy though.
My go-to order here is the Macho crispy chicken sandwich. The chicken is juicy, flavorful, and perfectly crispy, topped with just mayo and lettuce. It was served piping hot, with steam rising from the sandwich. I wish they allowed modifications though. I would skip the chicken skewers as they were about half meat half cartilage. I found it too hard to chew.
We tried Macho Burger on a Sat afternoon. We didn't realize it was mostly a chicken place until looking at the menu (not a bad thing though!). The restaurant had a few tables taken and ordering was simple with a touchscreen. We ordered: -Original Crispy Chicken Sandwich: the chicken was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. This was pretty good. -Popcorn Chicken with Spicy Cumin: spicy cumin came on the side and was $0.75 extra. You kind of need the seasoning for the popcorn chicken. This place's sandwich did kind of remind me of like Popeyes/Chick-Fil-A. Tips: - the spicy cumin tasted good on the popcorn chicken and sandwich -They mostly sell chicken here, but I did see one beef burger on the menu. Overall, it was an okay fast food experience.
Driven by this place a couple times after the gym and finally got to try it. There's a small parking lot in the back. When you walk in, you order at a machine. There's a paper menu on the counter or virtual menu above on the TVs. There was a lot of indoor seating and a few outdoor seats. We took our order to go so keep that in mind. Spicy crispy chicken sandwich: 4/5, my boyfriend liked the flavor and the chicken was super crunchy. The bun was not soggy but he wishes that there were more sauce. It has some lettuce on the inside but only a few pieces Curly fries: 3/5, they give you a lot for a side order. It was cold by the time we ate it but we also took it to go. They gave us a few ketchup packets. Unlike the chicken, the fries were not crunchy. 2 pieces chicken thigh and leg: 3.5/5, the chicken was super crispy and flavorful but I just don't think I can justify it for the price. For $9, that's pretty expensive for the chicken itself. Fries and a drink are additional. I wish there was a dipping sauce for the chicken. 2 skewer chicken kabob: 1/5, not my favorite out of everything we ordered. The chicken lacked flavor. I think it had pieces of chicken and chicken gizzard. The chicken gizzard was super tough and hard to chew. I wouldn't get this again. I really enjoyed the fried chicken the most given the flavor and crunchiness. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it but if I'm in the area I would grab it.

ORDER Self-service with a kiosk to order and check out. Minimal interaction with staff. Utensils and condiments are left out at the front counter. FOOD * Fried Chicken Sandwich combo x2 The meal combo comes with a drink and side options. My SO and I got both fries and onion rings. The fries were crispy and delicious, similar to McD's. The onion rings were okay; they were generic. The chicken itself was tender and tasted like chicken thighs. The breading was crispy and light but not flavorful. The layer between the chicken and breading was pretty wet, which made it slightly soggy. The sandwich had mayo and a piece of lettuce. After completing our meal, we both felt a bit nauseous. Something wasn't sitting well. It wasn't severe, but my presumption may be old oil or the chicken thighs. Overall, nothing to rave about this place. Really great spot for chicken sandwiches in south bay though prices are a bit higher than what you'd see at a typical fast food joint. My boyfriend and I visited on a weekend around lunchtime and it was decently busy. We placed our order at one of the self-serve kiosks and waited about 20 minutes for our food to be ready. We wanted to try a variety of menu items so we opted for the 2-person family meal which comes with 2 chicken sandwiches (we chose one classic and one spicy), 6 spicy chicken wings, 2 chicken cartilage kebabs, and 1 order of fries. This was a LOT of food for us and we even ended up having some leftovers. The chicken sandwiches, especially the spicy one, were really good and super hefty in terms of how big the chicken is! Additionally, we loved the chicken cartilage kebabs as they were super flavorful. Spicy chicken wings and fries were good as well but the sandwiches and kebabs were absolutely the highlights of our meal. read more

Tried their Macho Crispy Chicken sandwich because it was the largest picture on the menu so I thought this has to be good. And it was. Very light and made just right. My friend ordered their hamburger because the name of the company has burger in it and we shared so we could try more than 1 item :) It has great flavors and reminded me of a thicker In n Out burger, which I really like. I got curly fries with one meal and my friend got regular fries. The fries were ok and we didn't finish them. It came with huge cups for the drinks! Honestly, I didn't have much expectations but we stopped by to grab some food because we were in the area. I was pretty impressed by the food.The service was pretty good too. Staff was nice and friendly. Ordered: *Truffle Cheeseburger - there was added mushrooms, the truffle wasn't overpowering, the cheese was perfectly melted, and lastly the patty was still pretty juicy. it does get messy though cause the whole thing does kinda fall apart. but I didn't mind the mess cause it the burger tasted good. *Curly Fries - made really perfect. a bit better than jack in the box in terms of crispiness. *Fried Porkchop - my kids said this was spicy even though I got it not spicy. But i would say it tasted good and was made with the right amount of crisp. not dry at all. There's a kiosk to make ordering easy if you are an introvert. Drinks is a fountain which is self-serve. Food is made to order so there is a bit of a wait time but if you are not in a rush then it's definitely worth checking out. When I googled Macho Burger to my surprise there are multiple locations, and locations closer to me back at home. Definitely can see myself checking out the other locations. The restaurant specializes in Chinese Fusion fried chicken, chicken sandwich / burgers / chicken snacks and sides. I ordered the Classic Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Black Truffle Cheeseburger, 6pcs spicy chicken wings and side of curly fries. The Classic Chicken Sandwich comes with special mayo sauce, lettuce and a crispy chicken patty. which is how I usually like my chicken sandwich. Chicken patty is well flavored and fried beautifully with light batter. I gotta give them bonus points for using potato buns! It's the best! Asian style fried chicken burger place. This place is reminiscent of fast food chains in Asia like Lotteria or even McDonald's. I got the Macho crispy chicken sandwich. It's quite simply constructed (just chicken, lettuce, and mayo in a hamburger bun) but the quality of ingredients really shines through. The fried chicken was super fresh and not too oily. If you're looking for a crispy chicken sandwich, Macho Burger is where it's at! Ignore the strange Macho Burger mascot, which reminds me of Duff Man from The Simpsons. Some of the prices are on the higher side for a fast casual concept, and orders can take a while to prepare (it took 15 minutes for my order at 5:30pm on a Thursday); however, portions are reasonable and ingredients seem fresh. They had two kiosks available to place your order and make payment, then you wait for your number to be called. You can also place your order ahead online, but there will be a surcharge for the items. For a fast spot, my expectations were blown out of the water by this joint. Definitely a go to spot whenever I'm around in Sunnyvale because their spicy chicken sandwich was so delicious! There's a self order kiosk in the front so I didn't get the chance to interact with any of the workers here. I ordered the Macho spicy chicken combo which came with a large drink and a buttload of fries! Easily a (5/5), you can tell the flavor on the chicken they use brings out the umami and it has an even coating of breading. My only feedback would definitely be maybe adding some pickles or anything pickled on the side to cleanse the pallet from the oil of the sandwich. The fries are nicely seasoned too with salt and pepper! Will definitely be back to try their truffle burger or their fish sandwich because these items also caught my attention! Spicy Chicken burger most popular. Delicious. Much better than the fast food outlets like Starbird and Chick-fil-A. Exceptional crunchy crust on the chicken. Can hear the crunch on every bite. Zero sogginess as it cools. The crunchy crispy texture of the chicken is similar to the KFC crunch texture. Crunchier than panko and bread crumbs. Maybe most similar to tempura bits. 100x better than St John's. And cheaper. Contrast between fresh soft pillow texture of bun vs. hot spicy crispy salty chicken with minimal mayo stands out. Very crunchy without being oily. Buns look custom made. Very soft. Can't buy them in the store. Chicken seems brined. Definitely salty. Not as good as the Betty Bakesale Buttermilk chicken SW at $13.60. The BB SW is life changing. This is one of the many vendors in 2nd place; right behind them. Chinese pop music playing loudly in the background. Free wifi ask them for the password. Each burger made after ordering for freshness. Better food quality than the corporate owned chicken sandwich stores. Metal tray instead of plastic. Everything here higher quality than the competiton. One of the best 10$ sandwiches around. This is now my favorite place for chicken sandwiches! I am dismayed that people clamored over a single Popeye's spicy Chicken sandwich, when all along they should have been coming into Sunnyvale to this awesome Macho Burger place. I kid you not, I ordered the Orleans Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and it was the most flavorful, the most juicy, the most awesome of ANY chicken sandwich I have EVER had - bar none! Now, good things come to those who wait. And it took about ten minutes to get my order. Which is fine, because everything was freshly cooked and hot AND DELICIOUS when it came out. They also have two hamburger sandwiches from which to choose. I will try those when I am in the mood for a burger . . . I cannot wait to try their Chicken Chop, Chicken Tenders or Popcorn Chicken. Why? Well, you see in the snacks menu, at the bottom, there are four different spices from which to choose - Spicy Cumin, Seaweed (I assume something like the Japanese furikake?), Sichuan Pepper (makes your mouth tingle!) and Macho BBQ. Flavorful crispy chicken burgers, super crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside! They're the Chick-fil-A Asian style! I love their crispy chickens so much that I had to come back again within a week! Their service is quick and efficient. You can easily order from the self-served machine and you'll be issued a number. No matter how busy they are, the food comes out quick within 15 minutes and packaged nicely in paper box with their hilarious and clever logo on top. They'll call out your order number via a microphone, There are ample seatings in the store if you decide to dine in. They have long tables and can accommodate big groups. The store's clean and has a nice vibe! My Chinese coworker who recommended this place to me told me that flavoring here was similar with what she would get in mainland China! So if you're nostalgic for that Asian taste or just curious about it, please come and check them out. One last tip: please go a bit before lunch time as they tend to get crowded fast and it may take a while to find parkings. Otherwise, bon appetite! read more

Overall, a little underwhelming. The chicken had a very good crunch to it, but otherwise was not very flavorful. It tasted like a lot more batter than meat, and the sandwich had no sauce on it. The party of the cheeseburger was slightly hefty which was nice, but it was nothing special especially relative to the price. I did see that they have a truffle cheeseburger though, which is something I would be open to trying next time. read more

A man that wears a burger bun as a cap is my kinda man! Because he got his priorities straight: FOOD. Macho Burger's mascot is this tanned ripped dude wearing a tank, black shades, and burger bun cap. He looks like WWF's Macho Man (Randy Savage) so I wonder if it's inspired by him. I know fried chicken sandwiches are everywhere these days, even bougie restos have gotten into the fried chicken sandwich game. But...Macho Burger is bringing something pretty new to the bay. Think Chinese KFC/Popeyes...their take on classic American fast food. There's a similar concept in SF called ABC Chicken but they don't seem to be bringing in the crowds like Macho Burger is. Probably because of the location. Fair warning, don't expect fast food speedy service and prices at Macho Burger. Expect to spend at least $20 pp for a combo meal (including tip) and until they work their kinks out...up to an hour for your order during peak hours. And, don't expect service with a smile. Would I go back again? Yep! BUT...only at opening time when there isn't a long wait. Macho Burger comes from San Gabriel Valley and this is their first NorCal location at Arques Square, Sunnyvale (formerly Tortilla House). Open for takeout and dine-in. Delivery to come. Also, I think a tangy mayo would work better to cut through the richness. * Chicken Cartilage Kebab (2 pc - $4.99) Delicious mix of tender thigh meat and chewy cartilage with warming cumin seasoning. Slight char added a smoky dimension. The flavors aren't as strong as your local Chinese BBQ Skewer resto so it's a good gateway if you've never had Chinese skewers. * Waffle Fries ($4.99) Hot and crunchy battered waffle fries. Standard fast food style that runs on the salty side. Served with packets of Hunts ketchup. Suggestions to owner(s): (1) Add extra spicy and extra extra spicy option (or housemade dipping sauce) for spicy food lovers. (2) Add a self-service water station (no free tap water). S E R V I C E Everything is cooked-to-order so food takes awhile. Arrived at opening time (3rd in line) and it took about 15 minutes for our order. This place is close to our work and today we tried it out. It's in a small shopping center that provides some parking spaces but most are "compact". It may be a little trouble to find a parking spot at lunch. The restaurant is new and clean, self served, you order from a screen and pay then wait until your number called. Our cheeseburgers took about 20 minutes. Most people ordered chicken burgers, our cheeseburgers were quite juicy for $11. They do have some bacon in them, lettuce and tomatoes. The buns are soft and the meat is good, not a really big patty likes 5 guys but enough for lunch and bigger than In-n-out doubles. The fries are quite different and tasty, sprinkled with ground black pepper. Very good. We took out so didn't get any drinks. Not bad for the price and just right for lunch. I would order one fries for 2 because they're quite large and plentiful. read more

Taste resembles fast food in China. The taste is pretty nostalgic. However the wait time was way too long even though there weren't many people there. Orders were pushed out very slowly. Also seemed like all the doordash orders took priority. I think they need to increase output otherwise I don't know how this is sustainable. read more
Crispy shrimp sandwich! Finally, one that serves this and a good one, too. I ate the sandwich before I thought to take a picture. It was definitely crispy; deep fried with panko type bread crumbs coating. The shrimp party was thick and was in good proportion with the bun. The bun was similar to a sweet dinner roll. Also, tried the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Glad they used dark meat which made the chicken moist. The coating was a crispy batter with a slight peppery taste. Surprisingly not as oily as expected being deep fried. Reasonably priced. The onion rings were also a good portion and very reasonably priced at $5. Wished the batter was more crispy, though. Also could use more salt as seasoning. Their menu even had whole chicken and family meal deals. You can make the sandwich a combo with fries and a drink for $5. Will try the burger next time. Waited about 25 minutes for the food to come out. Some of their signs are not translated in English so not sure if I was missing a deal. read more

We got the combo for two, with 1 spicy and 1 original sandwich with 2 sodas, and the 4 sides (the sides weren't substitutable). The sides were fries, 2 kabobs, and 6 chicken wings. The place was a mess when we got in... each table had a bunch of crumbs on it and no one was rotating around cleaning, we had to wipe the table, and then someone came around by the time we sat down. My favorite place to go for burger is In N Out but my friend insisted that I try the Cheeseburger from Macho Burgers. At first I was a bit skeptical because this looked like a Chinese owned burger shop. I was expecting a fusion tasting burger but was I wrong!! I don't know what they put into that patty BUT it's super flavorful and better than In n out! Yeah, I said it. And I'm glad this place is all over So Cal! With multiple locations, I'll definitely go back for more! Only thing I won't get is the sweet corn side because it was mainly mayo and not something I'd enjoy. A solid chicken sandwich spot that can stand up with the best chains out there. There's so much to like! They have a stylish and spacious interior. The service is also really fast with a convenient kiosk to order from. Their Spicy Chicken Sandwich was surprisingly good. The chicken was really well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The fried batter had an amazing crunch and they use chicken thighs, the superior choice for a chicken sandwich. The brioche buns were lightly toasted and pillowy on the inside. Each bite was just so satisfying! It felt like the perfect balance of crispiness and juiciness. If I were rating just the bun and the chicken this place would have been an easy 5/5. The fundamentals are there, but the sandwich is missing a few key elements. The biggest flaw is the lack of something pickled to cut the fat. Coleslaw, pickles or pickled carrots/daikons would have taken this sandwich to the next level. Also, they only use regular mayo for the sauce. A sandwich of this quality screams for something like a siracha/chipotle mayo or spicy aoli. My last issue is with the iceberg lettuce. They should be shredded, not peeled and layered. Great location - close to a lot of offices, so if you work nearby, this is a great spot for a quick lunch or early dinner. The inside is clean and there's a good amount of seating. The packaging is cute! The food is decently priced, but like a lot of fast food, you're still looking at $15 per person for sandwich + fries easily. The fry portions are good - better than you'll get at a lot of other places. Don't miss out on curly fries! The chicken sandwiches have nice portions - no flat chicken here! The breading is well done, but there was a bit of an old oil taste to them, which could have been leftover from the lunch rush, but hopefully isn't as strong on return visits. The regular crispy chicken doesn't have a lot of flavor, but the spicy chicken packs a little kick. read more

We ordered spicy chicken sandwich and crispy shrimp sandwich and fries. The chicken is really great. It's very crispy outside and juicy inside, which reminds me of KFCs in China. We went late on a Friday evening and there was no line, but the wait for the food was a little long (~15 min). Overall good food but service could be improved. read more

Decided to to try out this place for lunch. Their main focus are their fried chicken sandwich but decided to try their crispy shrimp burger since I never could find a place that does it. The crispy shrimp burger is so-so, but for the price you pay I would expect it to be more elevated than just a slice of iceburg lettuce and a light spread of mayo. Also maybe some more seasoning on the shrimp patty but it was at least hot, crispy and juicy. I also ordered a side of fries but was a bit disappointed in them. They weren't hot/crispy and just kinda warm. At least inside was nice and clean. Service is contactless and you would need to ring the bell if you need to ask the staff for something. read more

A new Chinese-style burger called "Macho Burger" has been opened in the Bay Area. It's said it is come from LA to the Bay Area. It sounded pretty impressive, so my buddies and I decided to give it a try. Total for two people with tax: $47 Orleans Chicken Burger: $10.99 / $15.98 combo. I thought this was the best on the menu, suited my taste buds, but it was a bit on the sweet side Tender Beef Wrap: $10.99. It doesn't taste much like KFC back in China; the beef is tender with a hint of black pepper steak flavor. The beef portion is decent, and they're quite generous with the sauce, very creamy Sweet Corn: $4.99. I wouldn't recommend this; they put Thousand Island dressing on boiled corn, a bit too greasy New Orleans Grilled Wings: $11.99. There are six wings, and they're tender, quite similar to the real deal, but a bit too sweet They also have combo meals: Two-people combo $39.99, Four-people combo $89.99, which is more cost-effective than ordering individual items. Passed by this place and decided to give them a try. We didn't see the fried shrimp burger on the self-order kiosk so we asked the staff if it was available to order with them. We made our order of Fried Shrimp burger and Spicy Fried Chicken burger meals The wait was quite long and it didn't seem too busy on a weekday late afternoon. The fried shrimp burger was quite bland in flavor but their signature fried chicken sandwich is where it's at. The flavor was very reminiscent to China's KFC kind of seasoning. I like how the veggie for the burger was a soft butter lettuce which paired very well with the Fried chicken. Overall: You won't get smiles with your orders and the wait time for food is quite long. Would recommend trying the Fried Chicken burger though. read more
