Joshua gave me above par assistance 3 weeks prior to meeting with me. He emailed from his vacation in Iceland to say when he would be returning. Thereupon, he contacted me upon said date to see if I still needed his services. I most certainly did! My computer was a mess. Prior to meeting me, Joshua was kind enough to email me with answers regarding questions I had about a keyboard and mouse. I desperately needed one as mine had just given up. I am a single mum and recently unemployed and I need to stick to a budget [like we all do right now] and he gave me solid answers so I didn't waste my money. Already a 10 in my book! Joshua deftly reorganized my extremely wiggy computer, and created sanity out of complete chaos. This was a challenging feat as my CD drive doesn't work & we needed to use his computer to facilitate the process; Joshua was exceptionally creative at making it all come together. I had duplicate copies of everything, limited HD space, randomly misplaced files, too much stuff- music! - that I couldn't just trash right then and there, yes - it was a complete disaster. He left me with a mini "tool kit" to fix problems that might arise. Indeed- a huge one did- I followed his advice AND called him. He returned my call that day, on the weekend and assured me that I had followed up as I should have [using the "tool kit"]. He talked me through the rest of the snafu and everything is working as it should. I HIGHLY recommend his services. The Mac Doctor has been of invaluable assistance over the past couple months in helping me to fully take advantage of my macintosh. Joshua was originally recommended by a trusted friend for his effectiveness at problem solving, his professionalism, his low hourly rate, and his efficiency while on the job. I first contacted him with somewhat of a peculiar request: I wanted to be able to control several remote speaker systems over my wireless network in a few different rooms in my condo. Although I've been a macintosh user for awhile, I had a no clue whether this was possible. Joshua is my go-to man for advice when I'm in the market for small to big-ticket computing and hi-tech items at home and for my work. My Macbook's HD got fried months ago. The Mac store initially said they could not fix it when the problem was small (and data still easily recoverable) and then turned around and told me that they could replace it once it was totally ruined because it was covered on my warranty. They gave me my old HD and suggested a date recovery service that quoted me between $800 and $2200. After reading Mac Doctor reviews I decided to email Joshua and even though I got an auto response saying he would be out of the country until January, he promptly followed up with a personal email. I told him that I preferred to wait the few months until he returned and pay his reasonable prices ($95/hr for an estimated 1-2 hrs) rather than send it to a company with outrageous rates. Joshua did not forget about me and sent me a personal email in december looking to schedule an appointment in early January. He was easy to find and was very polite. Also he took the HD and kept me updated and was very optimistic through the process. In the end he lived up to all of his claims: $95/hr rate, only took two hours and my data was promptly returned a few days later fully intact. Given my limited technological skills, Joshua's help has been invaluable. He set up equipment so that all of my files are now being saved. He figured out why I was having a problem with my computer, a problem that was missed by the IT person at my academic institution, and has helped me understand options on the new computer I acquired. Before going on a trip abroad, he recommended a digital camera to me, thus obviating the need for me to investigate the various digital cameras available. My experience with Mac Doctor was really excellent, in all dimensions. He's clearly an expert, he's responsive, he's friendly and personable, and he's reasonably priced. (Also, he didn't have that arrogant tech-geek attitude that less tech-inclined people often encounter!) My issues were nasty- my computer gave me a fatal error "hard drive not found" and I had lost all my iTunes library and it wasn't properly backed up. My 3 iPods that weren't syncing and one of them had duplicates of every song. After spending 90 minutes on the phone with an Apple customer service person, he told me "sorry, we can't help you" and proceeded to tell me to use third-party software to fix my morass of issues. Thankfully, I found Mac Doctor and he fixed everything and helped me select a new Mac Book (my old one ended up ok but felt it was time for a new one), format it, get my iPods back in shape and he restored all my music! I had a disaster with my years of stored emails, contacts, and calendar items, all lost due to a crash of my Outlook 2011 for MAC. I had had similar problems before and finally solved them myself, but this time I could not and was panicking due to work requirements. The MacDoctor took me as an emergency case and after I'm sure a lot of work applying his knowledge, online research, trial and error, and perseverance, he solved the problem and restored my files. Since this went so well, I engaged him to help me migrate all of my calendar, contact and email files to Apple Mail, iCal and Address-book as well as change my domain host and integrate my iPad and iPhone. He took me through this explaining all of the steps wonderfully and I have been in "computer heaven" s for several months now and fortunately much more productive. I truly cannot give enough praise to Joshua. When my MacBook was accidentally dropped, the metal casing around the CD/DVD slot was bent, and a piece of plastic inside appeared to be broken, making it impossible to put CDs/DVDs into the drive. When I took it into the Apple Store, they wouldn't even touch the casing, and wanted $650 to send it out to the factory and have it looked at. After reading his other reviews on Yelp!, I called Joshua and he was very kind and professional. He met with me the same day, fixed the casing in about 5 minutes, checked twice that the DVD drive was working properly and refused to let me pay him for it. I asked him a few questions about other problems I was experiencing and he was extremely nice and very patient, telling me sincerely what was worth fixing and what was not. Joshua fit me into his schedule even though he was busy with other clients, and then took a lot of extra time to try to rescue my mac. Sadly my external hard drive had failed just before my internal, but since Joshua had my computer at the time of the second failure, all was not lost. In fact, nothing was lost. All of my files (at least as far as I can tell!) were preserved, in particular my photos, which I kept on my external drive. I was extremely impressed with Joshua's communicativeness and willingness to do quite a bit of extra work after my problem turned out to be more complicated than I had realized. His rates were also reasonable, and it was very easy to pay him (he sends you an invoice, and accepts payment on paypal). My MacBook screen died abruptly and I had no idea what to do. I found out the Somerville Mac Doctor online and emailed him. Craig responded promptly, gave me precise instructions about how to drop off my MacBook at this place under quarantine conditions. Craig was very clear and up front about what my repair options were and their costs. We arranged that I would drop off my external hard drive at his place and he would back up my MacBook so when I got a new one I could restore it with Time Machine. And again, Craig was very clear about how much the time he had already spent on my device would cost and what the added fee to do a back was. Found these guys on Google, I emailed a query through their site, and Josh got back to me quickly with a very thoughtful, honest response. I didn't have Mac Dr do any work for me, as Josh confirmed my suspicion that liquid on my laptop would be prohibitively expensive to repair. However, he took the time to lay out some options of how I could replace the machine for minimum expense (purchase refurbished and sell the laptop for parts). I'm compelled to write the review because every other commercial email I write lately gets the lousy-est responses that don't even answer my questions. There's not enough stars to rate the service I got from Joshua. Never once was there ever a question about his ability or knowledge. I'm so very happy that I found him. When I picked up my computer, which was dead before I brought it, I almost wished I had another computer that was broken so I could bring it to him so he could fix that one too.
