Was having an issue with my ipad pro, thought I would try Mac-Ave. I've had rather frustrating experiences in the past with the Mac Store in the mall. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Mac-Ave. From the moment I called and spoke with Jacquie about the issue to walking into the store, she is very pleasant, knowledgeable and took time to answer my questions. My experience was very positive, friendly and I enjoyed the fact this is a family business. Worked with different members there and they were all very pleasant, remembered my name, treated me like a person and not a number. When I wanted to upgrade my 9 yr old ipad, after researching different places & pricing I decided to take my business to Mac-Ave. They were competitively priced (even better than two other stores), offered services I wouldn't receive from online purchases or box stores. I called to see if they had a battery in stock for a specific phone. They told me that, before they'd answer my question, I'd need to go online to fill out a long form with my name, address, phone serial number, etc. I wasn't keen on giving away my personal info just to see whether they had a battery in stock for my phone and whether they could do a same day repair. Every other place I called that day happily answered that question on the phone. I can understand providing that info, if I ultimately moved forward with the repair, but most of us would prefer to know up front whether our phone can be repaired that day or we'd have to wait days for parts to arrive. I spoke to a friend, who had a similar experience, and they felt the form request was excessive for their question as well. So, I went elsewhere instead. read more

Poor communications over the period of a week and a half that Mac-Ave was working on my equipment. Skimpy email progress reports arrived from time to time. Information shared with owner did not always get conveyed to technical staff so days (and dollars) were spent solving a problem that could have been sidelined. No way to communicate with technical staff unless one visited in person (Owner: "I'll have a technician call you." Technician: "I was never told to call you."). Purchases of equipment were made by owner without checking with customer about exact specifications. The solution that was ultimately supplied solved the biggest issue but created a couple of other issues that the customer had to solve on their own. read more

I brought my MacBook Pro there after the screen stopped working thinking I couldn't get an appointment at the Apple Store. They diagnosed that the display had died and would be $600-800 to repair. That is after the $90 diagnostic fee. I was able to get an appointment at the Apple Store, they gave me a free diagnostic, and found that I had a protection plan on the laptop (from the previous owner). With the protection plan the repair would be completely free. So I lost $90 going here, thank God I got a second opinion. I also didn't get the warm and fuzzies in the store, there were sings everywhere about what they will charge you for. Now I understand the CYA, but there was so much CYA that it seems like they have trouble charging people for shady business here and there. Horrible horrible horrible! Want to save money, time and headaches, go somewhere else! The woman who owns it should not be allowed to work with customers or take their money....Take your business to a local shop that actually values customers. Hostile, rude owner heard arguing with many customers and even yelling at a poor girl simply asking her questions about her laptop...at a laptop repair store... Took my daughters laptop here and the repair failed and though I was told if it failed I would only pay for labor, instead was still charged several hundred dollars! I'm not a techy and had no patience or knowledge for figuring out my slow laptop. I thought buying a new one online through Amazon would solve my problem. But it didn't. So I went to Mac-ave and spoke to the owner Jackie. She knows her stuff. Knew my model laptop and explained in a clear and knowledgeable way that my old computer just needed some work and that my new computer was too small for what I was trying to transfer. So I left it in their hands. They Got the job done quickly and kept me up to date w repairs it needed. Pricing on most items is full price price and there are no returns without restocking fees. A friend recommended going to Mac-Ave after his macbook had a pitcher of water spilled on it.... Definitely off the beaten path, just outside the bustle of the Eastview Mall. Thoroughly impressed with all of the apple items that they have for sale here. A lot less of the glitz and glam of the apple store but you can tell they are here solely for any apple device. My fan on my macbook was making a horrifying sound, yet thankfully I still had my apple care warranty left. They promised 48 hours, and it ended up being completed within 2 business days, so I was VERY impressed with the service. Best of all, it was covered under apple care, so the bill was $0! I'd trust them to do a better and faster job at servicing computers then the apple store would. I definitely wasn't treated like a service number here. Having done business here in the past so I knew what to expect. Nice people who are friendly and know what they are doing. They can "speak Nerd" when necessary but will take the time to understand your needs and make recommendations to meet those needs I bought a laptop, iMac, and the new mac wireless router. Not one for wanting to do the installation myself, I had them come to my house and do the installation. Good kid shows up and does a great job in about a hour. Not sure why you would go to the mall with this little gem so close. read more

STAY AWAY! I had a intermittent problem with the trackpad on my MacBook Pro and noticed the battery life was not as good as it used to be. I stopped by and explained what was going on. I was encouraged to upgrade my operating system, even though I was having no issues with it. After a quick look at my computer, which was operating just fine, I was told that they would perform diagnostic tests. The bill for the tests were $115, with no problems indicated. I don't have a problem with paying for diagnostics, and intermittent problems are hard to diagnose but this took a total of 5 minutes with the assurance that they would keep trying it. (Doubt it) The real kicker was the $199 for a system upgrade, this was done without discussing the cost. As it turned out they "upgraded" me to the 10.6.8 because I did not have enough ram. Doing the math, it would have been cheaper to update the ram and and install the current operating operating system. So after $326 I have an old machine with an old operating system and the same trackpad issues. Needless to say I will not be doing business with Mac-Ave again and I encourage you, fellow review readers to seek out a reputable repair shop. Thank You read more

I wish I had read the reviews before I went to Mac-Ave! Brought home a *NEW?* MacBook Air after they advised too expensive to repair old MacBook Pro. Opened the box to see marks all over the front and back that did not rub off with my finger or a tissue. I sent them a picture and email. Did not hear back from them for over 24 hours after several attempts! They implied I did it!!!! No apologies, no compensation for the hour there and back again, made me wait 20 minutes to speak to the supposed manager, and I could go on with several more details. Bottom line: good communication UNTIL there is a problem, THEIR problem even, then terrible customer service. Do not trust this business. read more

The genius at the Apple Store suggested I go to one of the repair places since they no longer stocked batteries for my older MacBrook Pro. (2009). I went to MacAve where I ran into a quagmire. I was told that they could order me a new battery but they did not know if they would be able to get it. What ? You mean you cannot call to see if it is in stock ? NO. If they can get a battery I have to return within 24 hours of their receiving it so they can return my defective one within 24 hours. What ? This seemed beyond weird and I wanted to get my computer fixed asap. Zoomed over to the MacShack. He had the battery in stock and I think he would have installed it then but the shop was closing and it takes an hour. Picked my computer up the next day. I had some issues with a cable for the lcd on my imac, they had plenty of time to pull it / find one and made no attempt (it takes 5 mins to pull it out of the computer). I returned hoping they would have it but no. They couldn't even find my old one. What a waste of time, I will never go back. They didn't help and also set me back! Ridiculous! read more

I go to Mac Ave in Webster most of the time. I enjoy going here because it is a much more personable experiences than going to the Apple store where are the employees are annoying and the store is overly crowded. I am always greeted with a smile and they remember me everytime I come in. Being a business owner I appreciate the hard work and extra personal touch they provide, therefore I prefer to support local small business. They know their stuff and have everything Apple-related that I have ever needed in stock from computers to Ipads to Iphones to cases, Apple TV, cords, etc. Good work guys. Skip the Apple store in Eastview Mall! Really. The MAC AVE folks have helped me for many years, and I will no longer waste my time going anywhere else. MAC AVE is an authorized Apple dealer, and will help with your iMACs, iPhones, iPads, plus they have workshops, and one-on-one instruction. And they fix things. Charging people up front for services not even performed is ridiculous! What a rip off this place is. We took our Mac there to have pictures and data transferred from Time Machine to Mac. Paid $90 up front which seemed sketchy, but did it anyway hoping they'd be able to help. Then when we came to pick up the computer THEY DID NOTHING TO FIX, NOTHING TRANSFERRED FROM THE TIME MACHINE and they were telling us we could pay them more to transfer Things onto a non Mac (even though we did it using a free program after all this). We said no thanks. They wanted to charge us another $48. The owner was completely rude and said "it is only $48". She demanded to be paid for going over in time to diagnose something that the Apple Store did within 10 minutes. Any small business owner willing to lose business and have their name dragged through the dirt because they have a bad attitude and inability to work with customers, not someone I would do business with again. If it "only $48", why are you willing to lose customers over it (not to mention bad reviews EVERYWHERE I CAN THINK OF POSTING THEM) when it wasn't even stated on the contract and you never called when you went over on the hours before charging more? As per the contract we originally signed when they were paid ahead of time for diagnostics, they only made off with $90. Wouldn't go back and I would advise people to stay away fro this place!!! Please do not do business with this company. Steve and Jacquie are rude and condescending. Even they though I explained the problem with my computer Steve chose not to listen and it cost me additional test time money and 3-4 days of lost work. I then spoke to a senior advisor at Apple and explained the situation. He was very understanding and refunded the entire amount charged for the repairs. The people at Mac Ave are extremely friendly and knowledgable. I took my MacBook Pro to them when my hard drive seemed to have failed. They took care of the problem before there was even an appointment available at an apple store! Fortunately the hard drive repair was covered under my apple care. However backing up and saving 4 years of priceless information, understandably, was not. Lesson learned and paid for! The people at Mac Ave made sure to teach me the proper ways of time machine! Went here looking for a lower cost option than Apple to replace my daughter's cracked iPhone screen. They did a great job - looks (and works) just like new. While I was there, I talked with them about my problems with my 7 year old iMac and ended up bringing it in for repair. They installed a new 500 gb hard drive - very reasonable and much less expensive than replacing the whole machine. These guys know what they are doing with Mac devices and won't take you for a ride just to make a quick buck. They've been in the same location for more than 20 years - now I know why. read more

Bought a Mac from them last year on the advice of another retailer we respected. Very friendly, chatty while we were buying. Left our back-up app, which we had paid for, off the new computer when they transferrred everything. Said they would arrange to donate the old computer. Didn't return calls about the back-up, gave us wrong info on back-up options when we finally got them, and then told us to buy it and install it ourselves; if we wanted them to do it, it would be at their hourly rate. This was work they were supposed to have done. They didn't care that they would lose all future business over a $50 tech charge. Called us three months later to tell us they had been unable to sell the old computer at our requested price! Never donated it to the church they had promised it to, never gave us a receipt for it. read more

I purchase all my new Apple products from Mac-Ave, and always buy the extended warranty. I dropped of my laptop to troubleshoot a problem I was having with battery life, on a Friday. They informed me that as it was covered by the service plan, they would have to ship it to Texas but assured me that I would have it back the following week. I was skeptical. On WEDNESDAY of the following week my laptop was ready for me to pick up, with not only a new battery but also a new top cover of the lower half of my laptop. Kudos to Apple and Mac-Ave! read more

I bought a package deal and they gave me wrong cables... whatever no big deal, but they made me pay for the correct ones that were supposed to come with it. i emailed two places for a quote on a laptop repair. a place 45 minutes from my home, and mac ave. mac ave didn't return my email, but i went there because it was 15 minutes from my home instead of 45. the place 45 minutes away quoted me not only half the time mac ave charged me, but the part i needed replaced they would have charged me half the price for that too. i guess that's why mac ave never returned my email asking for a quote. on top of paying double the price it took them a week and a half to repair it. wouldn't go to this place again. read more
