We're very sorry to report that we just had a negative experience with Kevin of MacAir. Most reviews here are over 2 years old. Thought a more recent review might be helpful for folks. Kevin is a nice guy, but ultimately cared about getting paid for time rather than work, if that makes sense. In short, we paid him well (more than the rate we had been quoted over the phone), but he couldn't diagnose the problem with our HVAC unit and help us. We had to hire a second HVAC contractor to get the job done, which ended up being super simple. More detail, in case it's helpful to others: Kevin spent almost 3 hours trying to figure out why our Mitsubishi mini-split wasn't listening to our Nest thermostat and turning on. Kevin charged us $325 (the $150 diagnostic visit fee we had been quoted by Lily over the phone, plus an unexpected $150 for one hour of labor time, plus tax), saying he was "90% sure" we needed to replace the control board. Kevin expressed to us that "a licensed Mitsubishi technician" would need to troubleshoot our unit with Mitsubishi on the phone to definitively determine the problem. He said the call "would take hours." Turns out the issue was super simple and would've been caught through basic troubleshooting! We had another HVAC contractor come, and in 10 minutes he discovered the issue was a dirty drain pan. read more

Kevin and his team from MAC AIR did an excellent job of replacing my 30-year old central air system. They went above and beyond, tackling unexpected issues and challenging conditions with professionalism and a positive attitude. They were extremely conscientious, making sure the work was done correctly and never rushing it or cutting corners. I found them to be prompt, courteous, respectful, and willing to work within my budget. Above all, they are honest and committed to doing the right thing. I am very happy that to have selected MAC AIR to work in my house and I highly recommend them! read more

Talk about above & beyond. Kevin & helpers Brent & Justin going crazy hooking up my long dreamed about Central A.C. The problem was on the manufacturer's side. Persevering, patience = A cool house during the heat of the summer! Recommend, without reservation!! read more

Through our research for updating our 50 year old HVAC system, Mac Air came through as professional, courteous and knowledgeable. During the site visit, they took care to keep themselves and the house clean and safe. They didn't push a particular type of system and were happy to answer all of our questions about the pros and cons of the different systems available. They provided an estimate with different configurations that they felt would work well at different budget levels, and ultimately we chose to work with Mac Air for this project. Price was agreed and deposit accepted through quickbooks e check (which is pretty much just entering your account number and sort code, so really easy to do). The project was scheduled and because the equipment could be collected sooner than expected, it was brought forward by a week. The equipment then delivered on a Monday, and by the end of Wednesday, the system was running. Every evening, they team ensured the areas they worked in were clean, tidy and safe, and the project was completed on Thursday. We had discussions about renewable energy and making use of smart technology and how to ensure the system stays efficient throughout all weather conditions, and also what options I'd have for replacing our final gas appliance. They even pre-wired for a heat pump hot water heater for free to make the installation easier for whoever ends up performing the installation. Although I'd go with Mac Air for it when we're ready. In all, I'd definitely recommend working with Mac Air to anyone that needs HVAC service. read more

If you're looking for a true professional who cares about the work they do, look no further. Kevin from Mac Air was an absolute pleasure. Extremely professional, on time, reasonable, and knowledgeable. We realized that even though our landlord said all of our units were serviced prior to moving in, they weren't. We had a terrible mildew smell coming out of two of our units after a few months in our new apartment. He helped us fully service those two units. We also had an issue with two other units that were not blowing cold air. Kevin was able to diagnose the issues and give me everything I needed to go back to my landlord and prove they weren't serviced. Will be asking Mac Air to come back and fix those too, thank you Kevin! read more

A rare breed. Kevin from Mac Air is a rare breed of contractor that you should consider if you want to repair or install an HVAC system. Let me explain. I have a five-year-old Mitsubishi split unit that has been leaking refrigerant for the last two years. I have called three separate HVAC repair companies, and all they did was check the level and refill it back up. The last one really messed up the system because, after two weeks, all the refrigerant was gone again. Desperate, I went onto Yelp, and I chatted and fielded multiple quotes from HVAC companies. Kevin's conversation stood out among them all. He explains in detail what repairs he would do and what the cause of the problem could be. I ultimately hired Kevin, and I could not be happier. Here are all the things he did that make him one of the best. Kevin communicates with you; he asked me for pictures of the system, so he is prepared with parts and knows what type of system he is working on. He texted in the morning to let me know his ETA. He wore a face mask throughout the day. The only contractor willing to pull a vacuum on the system and look for the leaks. He respects the property; he put slips on over his boots before entering the house. Kevin followed up days later to ensure the system is still working. Today in NYC, it is 92 degrees with extremely high humidity. I am thankful for the work Kevin did to identify and fix the leaking refrigerant. His price is very reasonable considering the amount of work it entailed to find this leak. read more

Kevin was a Godsend. A beacon of integrity, talent, and knowledge for HVAC systems. Fixed my Gree AC system, provided refrigerant and a sealing agent to address a leak in the system. Was open with information and explained the process with concise, elegant detail. He was also courteous enough to wear a mask and cover his shoes when entering the home. Well worth the price for the brilliant service. Thanks again Kevin! read more

Mac Air - Mac Air pressure gauge/hose system with refrigerant tank - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Needed a badly corroded gas furnace vent pipe replaced. Mac Air gave me a very fair price quote. (Some of the quotes received from others were ridiculous. ). They came exactly on time and did a great job on the replacement. They also vacuumed out the accumulated brick dust that was partially blocking the vent. Immaculate clean up afterwards. Highly recommended. read more

On July 5, my learning center's HVAC system died and we made the tragic mistake with another company. Long story short, they took half the money for the job and as of today wasn't fixed. "Parts were on order" We reached out to Kevin today. He was able to fit us onto the schedule, had the part in his van, and got our air conditioning going in 45 minutes. We are eternally grateful for the service call today. Most importantly, the price was 1/3 of what the competitor was asking. He outlined what potential problems that could occur with the unit in the future and things to keep in mind. It's refreshing to see this level of honesty in the service business. read more

Upon recommendation from our neighbors, we contacted Mac Air LLC to install a ductless mini-split system in our home. We could not be more pleased with their work and entire process from the first visit to the last clean-up. These are the words that come to mind when thinking of Kevin MacCallum's work and his Mac Air team: professional, knowledgeable, conscientious, respectful, personable, forthright, and hard-working. We look forward to continuing our professional relationship with Mac Air in the coming years. read more

I was in a pretty desperate situation and Kevin and Lily went out of their way to be more than accommodating. They squeezed us in and I was SO grateful to come home from surgery to a cool house! I am 100% satisfied and we were given a more than fair price. If you live in the Bay Ridge area, you need look no further. They are right here and super nice! Kevin was super professional. I just moved into this apartment and had issues with the air conditioning units in two rooms. He was able to replace both units within 2 hours, was super communicative, and made sure to guide me through getting all the details correct before he made the trip to avoid extra work. He made sure to cleanup all debris and waste from the installation and the pricing was very fair, and was also able to accommodate some special requests during the installation. Highly recommended. read more

I reached out on Yelp after our AC unit was leaking through the ceiling and had reduced capacity on the hottest day of the year no less! Kevin was able to give a good idea of what was wrong and offered solutions to preserve our system. He was very responsive with good communication and diagnosed the problem. He was respectful of us and our home and very conscientious about his work. I've worked with a lot of contractors and this was definitely a great experience. I definitely recommend Mac Air to anyone in need of HVAC service. read more

This is a really a 5+ review for an excellent company. From the first phone call, to the proposal, to the installation, to the clean up and follow up - all trustworthy and professional. No detail was too small and no challenge to great for this company. Kevin and Enrique installed 7 mini split heat pumps throughout out our row house. Challenges, in addition to being a a century plus row house, was that it is on a landmarked block. Kevin was sensitive to those challenges and requirements. Highly knowledgable about the system he was very clear in explaining how the project would progress from day to day. We developed a confidence in his workmanship. This was the least stressful project we have done in the twenty five years that we have had this house. This is how all contractors should be. read more

Prompt, efficient, friendly, communicative, knowledgeable. Definitely exceeded all expectations I had for an HVAC fix. Thanks, Kevin! read more

Highly recommended! Kevin was extremely easy to work with and knows his craft. He did a routine maintenance for our HVAC system and fixed the moldy smell problem. The filter and coil are located at the back of the unit and were very difficult to access. But he went above and beyond to help us deep clean the unit despite all that. I highly recommend him! read more

Mac Air stood by their guarantee and came by to fix a problem on the same day that I called! Impressive and courteous service. Thank you!

Kevin is not only a master of his craft, but a pleasure to work with and more than fair in his pricing. I couldn't be happier with his work. We had a mysterious problem causing the central air in our brownstone to turn off and on over and over and none of the usual fixes were working. He diagnosed and fixed it beyond our satisfaction. Hire them, you won't regret it. read more

Multiple HVAC companies scheduled me and then cancelled appointments, but Mac Air delivered amazing same day service. Kevin let me know with plenty of advanced notice that he was running a little late, but arrived promptly within his arrival window after that. He then did an amazing job diagnosing and fixing our problem, which was an HVAC pipe that was not properly sealed and leaking water. His thoroughness was matched only by his patience in explaining everything to me. I will absolutely use Mac Air again for any HVAC needs that we have, and I highly recommend that others do the same. read more

Kevin was so honest, understanding and respectful! 10/10 would recommend everyone reach out to him for a quote, at the least!

Highly recommended. Kevin fixed issues from our original installers errors. Took the time to explain the issues and repairs. Followed up to make sure we were happy with repair and if we had any questions. Kevin's stands by his work. read more

Mac air did a fabulous job, They were called upon to fix an HVAC unit that was not working and also to service and maintain 4 additional units as well in my house. They were prompt and arrived on time as they said they would. They did a great job explaining the problem and fixing the issue, work was done neatly and professionally, and most of all the price was fair for the services they were providing, to be fair to obtain the excellence service they provided, it was well worth the money. All their work was backed up with a warranty. I wouldn't hesitate to recommended them to others and I will definitely use them again for any future issues. read more
