I hired HVAC Hunters for a refrigerant recharge. The technician told me, based on his professional experience, that this recharge would get my system through the summer. I took him at his professional word and approved the work on that basis. It did not last 12 hours. The system stopped working the same day. Only afterward did I read the fine print on the invoice, which says the opposite of what I was told in person: that a recharge carries no guarantee of operation for any period of time and that the refrigerant may keep leaking. So I was sold a "summer" fix verbally, handed a disclaimer in writing, and left with a system that quit before the next morning. To make it worse, no one had the courtesy to call me and let me know the outcome of the conversation with their technician. Having managed large operations for years, I know there's a right way and a wrong way to do business: set honest expectations, stand behind what your technician promises, and communicate directly. None of that happened here. My advice, get every promise in writing before you approve any work, or better yet, call someone else. read more

My initial experience has been good. I called them because my steam radiator has been extremely noisy lately. The diagnostic cost was $200. The technician spent a couple of hours diagnosing the issue and was thorough and communicative. The technician on site was not 100% conversant in English but it was important to him that I understood the problem and he did an admirable job explaining it. Then Alex called me to explain it again and his explanation was consistent with the technician's. He emailed me a detailed description of the problem along with a proposed solution and clear pricing. I paid the $200 diagnostic fee via Zelle. Unfortunately, my boiler needed several new parts in order to be safe to operate (news to me as I had just had a maintenance visit from another provider 3 month prior). The technician was emphatic that I not run the system until the problem was corrected. I understand that the team drove out of state to retrieve the necessary parts for me so that my family would not be without heat overnight. They returned the same day and installed the parts. Again, I paid the sizable but reasonable repair cost via Zelle. The team was careful to explain to me that this safety/pressure problem was not the reason for the noisy pipes! So, they fixed the dangerous issue but still needed to do a valve replacement. They came the next day to replace the valve and found that a more involved job would be necessary because of the age and condition of the radiator battery in my bedroom. But, they explained that they could not do the extensive work in the cold weather because of a risk to the pipes and a possibility that we would be without heat for an extended period of time. They replaced what they could and said they would do a more complete job in the spring when the weather is warmer. So, my pipes are still noisy and I spent a lot of money but at least my boiler is safe to operate. Assuming that they are able to complete the repair job in the spring at a reasonable cost and with the same timeliness that I have experienced so far, I will be happy to continue working with them. It is refreshing to deal with a repair company that handles client communication in such a professional manner. Everyone was careful about wet shoes and mess and all of that, which was also welcome. read more

The tech showed up same day for a smart thermostat installation which had hit a snag. Long story very short, a lack of documentation made a small problem seem like a huge wiring problem instead. This was a perfect opportunity for an unscrupulous company to greatly overcharge, yet the cost ended up significantly less than every other quote I received. We just hired Alex and HVAC Hunters to replace large external condensate pumps in a mini-split system for our home, as we were very unhappy with the aesthetics of the installation job by another unrelated company. We had contacted a dozen vendors. Several said they could not do the work, a few declined as they noted they had not installed the original system and did not want to take responsibility in case of other issues. Others proposed a smaller but still external and noisy pumps or the need to cut dry walls etc. Moreover, others wanted hefty per-unit call fees just to come in-person and give an estimate. Alex gave a quick diagnostic and a fair quote which he stuck to, with just the photos, video and description provided. He and his colleague did the job very quickly, after explaining the whole scope of work to us. The internal condensate pumps he installed for us are silent as he promised and our living room looks like a living room again. I had an AC issue and am not knowledgeable in at fixing home maintenance issues. I called to get their rate to fix the issue. It was $150 to take a look and advise and more if they needed to fix it. Something in the AC temperature thermostat was broken and just needed to be replaced. I dont think that it was worth $150 but they still did great work. They checked all the vents, the wiring and the temperature. They checked through the full house and making sure it was working. They were very kind and willing to explain the situation and how to fix it on our own or have them come over to fix the issue themselves. Mini Split AC system really needed a deep cleaning after many years use and probably not cleaned as regularly as it should have been. Alex from HVAC did a very professional job that took maybe just over an hour from beginning to finish. He showed up on time, was very prompt, very thorough, and very respectful of the surrounding area during the cleaning keeping everything protected and neat. The unit was deep cleaned with anti-mold treatment. He was also very patient to explain how to maintain and keep the unit clean going forward.
