I will confess that I am always leery of service providers in areas that I know nothing about. My wife found Ben and Brownstone Heating and AC online and we took the leap [overly dramatic]. They were on time, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient and the price was in line with what we were accoustomed to paying for similar service. Brownstone is a keeper and I added them to my contact list. read more

Ben did a great job with a heat pump on a new property when the developers ghosted. There was a leak in the walls in one of multiple possible lines and he clearly laid out the options, chances of finding the root cause, and cost of each approach. He was professional throughout and the work looks great, even though it ended up being far more com. I highly recommend Ben's services. read more

I decided to go with another vendor for my project, but, wanted to emphasize my appreciation for Ben's honesty and availability through the selection process. You can't go wrong with him. read more

Highly recommended. Ben took the time and effort to properly diagnose the problem (including calling the manufacturer, etc.) to fix an issue that has been plaguing us for a while. It involved addressing the system so that it functioned the way it should (something that should have been done during installation but wasn't). Great communication and highly reliable. read more

This is the second time we've used Ben and he is incredible. We got other estimates where people came, did a quick look and quoted us some astronomical amount to replace our whole A/C. Ben came and thoughtfully evaluated and gave us options. In the end, he repaired what was possible and replaced when necessary, all for an incredibly reasonable cost. Excellent responsiveness and just great to deal with. We referred him to two of our neighbors, who also had a great experience. We would highly recommend Ben and Brownstone Heating and Cooling's services. read more

We had a catastrophe situation where our AC blew out during a heat wave and we were feeling miserable and helpless adter another AC repair person was unable to help. We found them via Yelp. Out of the many desperate requests we send out, they were the first to respond and the most attentive. They asked thoughtful questions and helped us diagnose within minutes of sending the first message. They were here the next day to look at the situation in person, they then removed the faulty air conditioner and had a brand new one replaced in one day. Totally professional, kind, attentive, very clean job on the installation. So glad we found them. read more

Today, after a week of messed up interactions with OTHER HVAC companies, Ben came and thoughtfully worked through the problem, and solved it! The guys before Ben said I needed an entire new Unit! Or a new compressor. Ben called the Fujitsu hotline mechanic and worked with them to find the real issue and solve it. So, I highly recommend! read more

These guys are great. Super responsive and honest. Came in and found the issue with our central air unit, had the necessary parts, and resolved the issue. Fair service fee, maybe expensive parts, but overall super happy. They were here for an hour and a half making sure they thoroughly resolved the issue. Highly recommend to all! read more

Ben was great to work with, reliable, responsive, and communicated well over the course of our project. When unexpected issues came up, due to the work of a previous contractor, Ben identified the problem and propose a fix. Ben's fees were reasonable compared to other HVAC installers we contacted and there were no hidden costs or fees. I would recommend Ben and Brownstone Heating & Air Conditioning. read more

Ben solved some very thorny problems with my boiler. I have a 325 MBH Burnham 2009 steam boiler in my brownstone that was failing to start up especially after it had been down for a while. I mistakenly thought it was a worn out thermocouple and tried to replace it since I saw it done last time the problem arose. Unfortunately I was doped up on Benedryl to treat a bad head cold and caused a major short circuit of the controls while attempting the work. Having no idea of the extent of the damage and how to repair it and having bad luck with my previous contractor, I submitted inquiries to several contractor referral sites. Ben is on Yelp & Thumbtack and responded to me quickly. It was the weekend and the house was getting cold so I thought I should try him. He was very methodical and thorough in his work. It took several days while he was testing and replacing wires and testing the controls. While prepared to replace all the controls, he found that he only had to replace the 12 volt transformer and low water cutoff. He drained and cleaned out the boiler prior to installing the new cutoff. Apparently the boiler had been failing to start due to sediment from the dirty water on the water level probe of the low water cut off. He advised me how to periodically clean out the boiler to prevent the problem from recurring. Contrary advice I got from my prior company led to this problem. Unlike me he knew exactly what he was doing. His solutions followed an expert step by step diagnosis which lead to finding what needed to be replaced and not replacing more than was necessary and then checking all controls to make sure the boiler is operating properly and safely. He was also a pleasure to work with: friendly and respectful. I learned three major lessons from this experience: 1. Don't assume that the solution to a problem will be the same solution next time the same problem arises. The main original problem was not a worn out thermocouple but rather dirty water. Correlation is not causation. 2. A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing and never try to do possibly hazardous work when you are not clear headed no matter how smart or brave you think you are, and 3. Always call Ben if you have another problem with the boiler even if it is just replacing a thermocouple! Thanks again Ben read more

The best! Total professionals. I've had to deal with so many shady HVAC AC hustlers so these guys were such a relief. Thorough, efficient and reasonable $! They fixed leaking central-air unit in apt with great care and even explaining to me what's going on. Unclogged clogged drain plus! AC central air working even better and more powerful than before. Top notch AC hvac central air repair guys in a biz that often has shady people overcharging etc. Not these guys! read more

Ben is great! Totally trustworthy and is cost efficient! Beat the other guys by 50% did it in half the time. A+ Recommend!

Ben was amazing. Super friendly, honest and on time. We had somewhat of a time-sensitive and critical HVAC electrical issue taking place. Ben was super responsive, showed up on time, troubleshooted the issue, and got to a resolution quickly. He was very communicative throughout the process, didn't over-promise, and clearly knows what he is doing. I would highly recommend him for any HVAC needs. Great guy and great company! read more

We contacted Ben through Yelp, which is probably the first time we used this site for anything. He came to our home, inspected the job and gave us a quote that was right on our budget. We hired him and within three days he was on site with the new equipment that we asked for. It took him about a day to do the installation of the split unit into our basement. He completed the job nicely without any "hidden" fees. We were enjoying the cool air that evening. Ben is very nice and professional in every way. read more

I reached out to a bunch of a/c professionals on Yelp and Ben responded with a full, professional quote within 10 minutes of me reaching out. He was able to schedule an appointment within 6 hours of my initial quote. Once he came to my apartment he spent a very careful 3.5 hours throughly cleaning my a/c unit and providing me with great recommendations on how to keep care of it moving forward. I was astonished at how quickly he was able to turn my central a/c unit around! Thanks Ben! read more
