I paid $50 for a gel fill + tip, only for 1 nail to start chipping away at just 3 days and the next one chip 2 days after that. I did go and get the 1st one fixed but just gave up getting the 2nd one fixed. Secondly, I get on a Thursday that a nail salon can get busy (so it is loud in general) but it is extremely rude for the staff to be sitting next to a client being loud and obnoxious so they can talk to their other coworker who is working on someone else's nails. If I do not want to be paying 50+ dollars to be in the middle of a conversation literally and uncomfortable. 3rd- the place was filthy and damaged, it did not look clean and polished like the pictures. read more

Then I got Jason as my tech last month, he's a great nail tech who takes his time and is fun to chat with. Asked for a regular acrylic gel fill, black with gold tips. Steve complained a few times how my nails looked from my previous technician and that I should always go to one technician (him) if I want great results. I had no issue with how my nails turned out from my last technician and maybe he has a better eye than I do because he does this for a living. He was really rough and blamed me when he got too close to my skin. I can't help it when you hurt you pull back, right? I ended up having to say sorry the second time that happened. lol And when did the price go up? On the website it states $40 for regular acrylic gel fill. Additional $5 for my gold tips, but I was changed $55 plus tip... hmm... not sure where the other $10 came from, but I was really over it and wanted to get out of there. My friend and I made a joint appointment for gel mani/pedis on a Wednesday evening after work. We walked in and were immediately greeted and began looking for our nail polish colors. There was a decent selection of gel colors. After about 2 minutes, an employee came over and implied I was taking too long to pick out colors - I felt very rushed. I quickly decided on my nail polish, and my friend and I were sat in two recliners that were beside each other. At this point there were a couple issues: first, there was old used water still in the foot bowl of my recliner, which is incredibly unsanitary - I had to sit awkwardly avoiding the bowl while waiting for the nail tech (which wouldn't have been a huge issue if not for my second issue...) and second, we then were completely ignored for an ensuing 20 MINUTES. We could not get anyone's attention (and we had an appointment!). The nail job itself was okay. The gel destroyed my nails, however, when it was removed. I recently started a new job in the area, and asked a coworker where she got her nails done because they looked fabulous. Two days later, I'm setting up an appointment via Yelp with the highly recommended Queenie. Believe everything positive that is said about her! She was highly professional from start to finish and very personable. Not to mention, she gave me a pair of flip flops when she saw that I came in with rain boots--a plus! I got a gel manicure and basic pedicure, and Queenie payed very close attention to detail the entire time. They are also sure to offer you a beverage, whether it be water, a mimosa or champagne. I've seen a lot of positive reviews for Steve, however I seemed to have had a terrible experience recently. I came in on a Tuesday around 5:30 pm for a gel manicure and waited around half an hour. When I was seated with Steve (not by request) he finished my manicure in literally 10 minutes. Not only was he super rushed buffing, filing, and cutting cuticles, but he didn't even allow me to finish placing my nails in the UV lamps for a full minute before painting on another layer of nail polish. The manicure looked fine at first so I didn't say anything, but it was apparent 2-3 days later that it was not properly executed. My nails had started peeling and chipping all over the place, to the point where I ended up removing it myself because I had traveled to Chicago for the holidays and didn't have time to return to the salon. Yes, I did come in during a super busy time right before the holidays, but this is NOT how a manicure should be done. Worst gel manicure I've experienced. It's been four days and my nails are chipping. I went here for a gel manicure. I'm not a nail tech, but I think they should last until Friday when I got them done on Monday. And it's not like I do any heavy lifting or sorting or whatever that would mess up my nails. I tip nicely and I've been here before (to mixed results..) I thought maybe they would be better with a basic gel manicure, but I was wrong. I've come here a few times now since it's convenient to both work and my apartment. I've really enjoyed it! It's a pretty typical nail salon in this price range in terms of services and equipment. They have a lot of chairs for both manicures and pedicures and I've never had to wait for a chair, though I almost always come right around 5 pm on weekdays so this may differ at other times. The techs are all very nice, and always remember to offer you a drink like champagne, a mimosa, water, or tea. The reason for the 3 stars is the administrative experience I witnessed that left my jaw dropped. They accidentally charged the lady in front of me for 2 manicures (hers and the lady that was behind her) by accident. They didn't know how to fix it (which should have just been an easy return the transaction) so their solution was to have the lady who got her mani paid for by accident to get cash and pay back the first lady who over paid. I've been getting my nails done every three weeks for 10 plus years. This place is was so bad, if I HAD to go here, I'd give up my favorite high maintenance pastime. The female manager is TERRIFYING. She yells at the techs while they're working. making them do things again if it's not up to her standards. I don't man this happened once. This place cuts every single corner they can, skipping steps in a fill (My tip is still lifting from the LAST fill, and she didn't fix this??) Rushing and push back when I asked for a third coat (everyone knows lighter colors require three coats for it to look good). No base coat? No top coat for regular polish? Gave me a hard time when I told her I needed a nail replaced (I had glued it back on). Didn't finish gel polish with alcohol???? (i'm sure all of this was because of the awful screaming manger, but still.) I went to give the first girl a tip, and asked for two back and she pretended like she didnt hear me TWICE. It was one of those places where you KNEW they were talking SH&^ about you. Tried to upsell me by making me feel like shit about the state of my feet (Again, pedis every 3 weeks... They're not THAT bad...) They got a star because I did walk out with what looks like a fill. Although, again, the nails are STILL lifting, despite this being fresh. My nail technician was way too rough with my hands. Then she rationalized it by saying I must not get mani pedis often because my cuticles are so sensitive. Because why exactly? if I get mani pedis often i should grow calluses around my nails? No clue what the logic was behind that reasoning. The shellac turned out fine, but the regular polish they used on my feet was very uneven and you could see the areas where it was thinner than others. The larger surface areas were bubbling up. Usually, I don't have an issue with my feet, but even my feet felt roughly treated this time. I don't enjoy being man handled while getting a mani pedi so it was all pretty stressful and unpleasant. I left more stressed out than when I entered. The massage was decent since she had such strong hands except when my ring got squeezed into my finger over and over instead of just letting me take the ring off first. It was like grinding a serrated knife into the sides of my other fingers. They do a good job constantly asking you if you want champagne or water. Their color selection seemed decent. My experience here was so bad that I actually only got yelp to write a review and ward off other unsuspecting customers... I've been going to the Mimosa on Connecticut for years and have always had minor complaints about being rushed but, overall, have had pretty good experiences. I went to this I St location to see if it was less crowded. I arrived an hour before close on a Weds night. As I was trying to select a color, I was asked 11 times- yes, I counted- if I was ready. I finally said "thanks I'll let you know when I'm ready" and was still bothered twice more. Not a good start. The woman who did my nails used no cuticle oil or softener on my cuticles, put no effort whatsoever in pushing my cuticles back, and didn't even take out her trimmers. She took not one, but TWO phone calls during my manicure and was making fun of the client sitting next to me. At one point she openly laughed at her in her face. At the end of my "manicure" she poured cuticle oil directly onto my hands which she did not thoroughly rub in leaving them slick and disgusting. My gel nails, barely a week later are coming off. This was BY FAR the worst salon service of any kind I've ever had. I will not be returning again and will also warn my friends against coming. read more

This place used to be so good. I have officially given up on them. This place is known for their mimosas and drinks but I have only ever been offered a drink 2 out of the dozen times I've been here. I always have to ask. Half the staff is so rude. They don't even say hello when you sit at their station. I usually just get gel polish. Today the lady never asked if I wanted my nails cut shorter, what shape I wanted, nothing. Never again. Disorganized and I feel like I was bumped for the Caucasian clients that came in after me. They had no system for taking clients and had me sitting for an hour with tin foil on my nails and then give me a person who seemed not to know what the hell she was doing. They were friendlier to others and it took everything in me to keep my cool and not show my a**. They seriously need to do better about acknowledging clients and getting them services in a timely manner.
