My steak was so good, a little over done in my opinion, but I do prefer more pink/red in a standard medium rare. My husband loved the lamb, but said the lobster was overall lacking flavor. We then had the chocolate cake which was SOOOO fudgey and delicious! Our experience was very nice, except for the missed appetizer, which was removed from the bill, and our sides swapped, but overall very good. The workers are all very friendly and funny. We really enjoyed our dinner. I can't wait to go back for another!

It's cool it being your own card games too. On the weekends I've caught some good live music, too! Hungry? They have all beef hot dogs, pretzel with beer cheese, polish sausages, pickled eggs, etc. Heatlamps and some fire pit tables are lit a night to keep you warm but keep in mind it's outside to check the weather and dress accordingly. I've been to Catalina solo, traveling alone as a woman I'm happy to report: I felt very safe and comfortable in the Biergarten. Bathrooms are in the back, in some of those fancy portable toilets (including a handicap ramped stall), so you don't have the leave the Gartën for anything. The owner Michael is so friendly and will remember the regulars from the main land (thanks for calling me a Legend haha), and shout out to Jack who works there too for his fun and kind energy.

I was married back in August 21, 2010 at the Hotel Metropole's Beach House. We also used the hotel's M Restaurant to cater / serve dinner at the wedding reception. We never dreamed we would be able to provide our friend's and family with such a lovely dinner accented by a perfect setting overlooking Avalon Bay ... but we did! Bottom line, the food & service were both excellent and the presentation of the food when served was just picture perfect. Roshan and his staff were excellent to work with making sure that everyone was served their food in a timely manner and no one was left with an empty glass ... my point is that the M Restaurant was on it! Our entrée choices were the following: Salad - Mendocino kentor canyon farm mixed greens - baby heirloom tomatoes, hot house cucumbers, wild flower honey and meyer lemon vinaigrette. Fish - Wild White Sea Bass: Seared white Sea Bass, citrus salad, shaved radishes, passion fruit beurre blanc. Chicken - Petaluma Farms Stuffed Chicken Breast: Sun dried tomato, mascarpone cheese, organic spinach stuffed petaluma farm chicken breast, potato puree, baby carrots chicken jus Vegetarian - Risotto: Organic zucchini risotto, baby zucchini, fried zucchini blossoms, grated parmesano reggiano. Dessert - Homemade natural ice cream with berries. We received so many compliments on the dinner as well as the dessert! Everything was a huge success and the reception was seamless. Before the wedding, we also stopped by the M Restaurant for lunch to check things out and the restaurant was very clean and had a modern feeling to it. We enjoyed our lunch with a beer from the bar and watched the US Men's soccer world cup game against Ghana ... it was an exciting match and the food was delicious ... we shared the M Burger (half pound estancia beef, apple wood smoked bacon, heirloom tomato, avocado, butter lettuce, white cheddar and house made mayo ... ALSO TO DIE FOR ... :) For living on the mainland and deciding to have a destination wedding for all my friends and family to enjoy ... I truly do believe that we lucked out! Thank you Hotel Metropole (Veronica & Team) and the M Restaurant (Roshan & Team) for making my wedding experience more than we could have ever imagined! Opened less than four months, the M Restaurant is the crème-de-la-crème of restaurants on Catalina Island. It rivals in quality to some of my favorite place to eat. Everything the "M" offers says "quality," from the heavy wooden old style bar, the understated name inscribed at the entry, the beautifully decor (but sensible) with an island feel. The food was amazing. As an appetizer, the Crab cakes with the aioli sauce is perfection, we also had the petaluma farms chicken curry spring rolls, with a plum sweet and sour dipping sauce, then split the Avocado Salad which was delicate and beautiful. As main courses, we had the White sea bass, on a citrus salad with passion fruit beurre blanc which was cooked to perfection. The Citrus and the beurre blanc was an accent to the fish I had never tried and the taste was perfect. I love the fact that all things are fresh and as local as possible. What a concept.... We also had the Duck breast with house made cara-cara ornage marmalade glaze and roasted cipolini on a bed of spinach. All we could say was "WOW"...this guy has talent... Another really nice touch was the bread, and not just butter, but a great house flavored butter. The wine list is exceptional, especially for such a new restaurant. I just want to say, the view, the decor, and the food, were beyond what we ever expected to find on the Island. Thank You - "M" for opening a restaurant with your standards and quality of food. I recently tried M Restaurant on Catalina Island and it was a bit of a letdown. The menu promised Italian cuisine but it was so Americanized. Everything was loaded with cream and cheese, which made the dishes super heavy. I had the seafood with pesto sauce, which was supposed to have pine nuts, but didn't. Honestly, I didn't even bother asking about the missing nuts because I was already too full from all the cheese after just a few bites. The cheesecake for dessert wasn't much better--tasted like it came straight from a grocery store, super cold in the middle with that unmistakable store-bought frosting look and feel. On the upside, the service was friendly enough, but nothing that really stood out. Overall, the vibe was more like eating at a chain restaurant than a unique spot on the island. We dined at several different restaurant for lunch and dinner and by far our favorite was the "M" Restaurant. Oh my, was the food wonderful, the salads were fresh, fresh, fresh, the Carrot and curry soup was the best I have ever eaten. I had the fish, and my husband had the duck, all I can say is I wish we lived closer, we would eat there once a week. I never in my dreams thought we would find food like that on the island. Chef Kathleen and JoAnna are as good as it gets! They provide excellent service and the best locally sourced, organic food you will get anywhere! We just celebrated a birthday with 30 people for dinner at Zest. From the planning to the dinner, our experience was seamless and one of the best dining experiences this 'tough to please crowd' has ever had! Terrible Terrible customer service!! We made a reservation for 9pm and received a text message asking if we're on our way we replied yes and they give a 10 minute grace period. We walked in at 9:11 and for 1 minute they decided to not seat us. We chose a Killer Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip cookie to go. We walked over and watched planes take off and land while eating our cookie before our shuttle van was back to take us down to Avalon. We booked the shuttle through Catalina Conservancy which was a better option than a tour van or taxi. Just note, it can be pricey to get up and back and then add a meal on top of it, so be prepared. But it was well worth the trip, and the hike was fabulous.
